I booked a table for two, but was unexpectedly joined by two others. The restaurant was busy, but the team graciously accommodated us. I loved the stripped back design of the interior and details like the mixed crockery. Most importantly the food was delicious. Three of us shared the fixed menu, but it meant we could try almost everything on the menu - all of it wonderful. Thanks for a great evening!

To be honest, I was a bit disappointed...I had hoped for more. Overall, the food wasn't as spicy or powerful as it should be; everything was rather bland and over-the-top. We'd rather go to other Thai restaurants in this city.

A really good Thai restaurant! A true gem in Berlin! The food was incredibly delicious – super authentic and full of flavor. There are also delicious options for vegetarians, so no one goes hungry! The drinks are also top-notch; we were particularly surprised by the natural wine selection. The host is super friendly and makes you feel at home right away. The service was extremely attentive and relaxed. All in all, a truly lovely evening – we'll definitely be back!

This is a true gem in Boxi. The food was so flavorful and definitely nails the comfort food feel. Dishes that had a spiciness to them were done so intentionally, which added to the flavor profiles and was not over the top. I’d recommend doing the complete menu like we did - where you can choose a variety of starters and mains as well as dessert. It was also reasonably priced given the quality in my opinion. The mini donut, pork sausage starters and Catfish curry and Pad Pak Ka Na were some of our favorite dishes. The waiter was friendly and responsive as well as recommended a really nice wine. I appreciated we could order wine in various sizes like .5L to share. Inside the restaurant is cute and clean. Despite the weather being over 30 degrees, the inside of the restaurant was quite cool and comfortable. I booked online only an hour or so before on a Thursday evening and got a table. Would highly recommend if you are looking for a good Thai meal in Berlin that is unique and delicious.

This was our second visit to Khao Thaan, and I wanted to write this review as the service was genuinely some of the kindest and most professional my wife and I have experienced in Berlin. We were celebrating my birthday and the team really made it a special evening. And of course the food itself, inventive, full of flavour and perfectly spiced - the braised pork was a highlight. Thanks again to the team. We’ll definitely be coming back for another visit soon.

More than just dinner, a whole experience. We went with the fixed price menu, which included 3 plates and dessert per person. All portions are adjusted to the number of people in the table, so that everyone can share and try a little bit of everything. The food itself was delicious, a good mix of flavors and spicy to the right point. The staff is very friendly, they explain each plate when bringing it to the table. When we commented that one sauce was specially good, they recommended other dishes that would match with it and brought more for us to try. Overall, an amazing experience. The place is not fancy and it's a bit expensive. Worth it if there's a special occasion.

We celebrated our anniversary here today, and it was simply perfect! 💫 The menu was an absolute dream – everything was served to share, which made the evening even more convivial. Each course was lovingly prepared and flavorful. The food can, of course, be quite spicy (as it should be 😉), so it's best to approach it with a little caution if you're sensitive. We also had a bottle of Grillo, which complemented the flavors wonderfully and rounded off the evening perfectly. We would also like to particularly highlight the great service: attentive, warm, and pleasantly unobtrusive. Thank you so much for this wonderful evening – we felt incredibly comfortable and will definitely be back! 🙌✨

Great food, nice and friendly atmosphere! This is where I want to bring my family and close friends to give treats. One thing is though, it could be pretty spicy for those who are not a fan of or use to it. We had a Italian white wine together, it went well together with the food❤️

We generally like the food, but there are special dishes that you can't find at every Thai restaurant. At first we thought the prices were okay when we read the menu - but you might notice from the pictures that the portions are really small. see picture: Main course both cost €16 and the fish costs €27. I think the prices for the snack are ok, €6 and €8. It gets really painful when it comes to dessert: everything tastes good, but €8 for a mini glass of panna cotta or €6 for the little blob of black sticky rice is really... 🥲 Addition: we deliberately didn't choose the menu (45€/person) because we wanted to try the special dish. The staff is friendly, helpful and takes the time to explain everything. Overall, a nice visit, but I only give it 4 stars because of the price-performance ratio. 🥲

A really great shop! Here, traditional Thai cuisine meets modern influences – an exciting combination. When I read that they were offering Gai Kho Lae (ไก่ฆอและ) I had to go straight away. This is the first dish I eat when I'm in Bangkok, my husband's hometown. The preparation here was a little different but still delicious. Personally, I was missing a slight sweetness and the typical coconut flavor, and a bit of sticky rice would have made the whole thing perfect - but overall it was really tasty! We also had Laab Neu Toad, which was served here as a meatball. This reminded me a lot of my Turkish cuisine - an exciting and refreshing interpretation that even inspired me to try it myself. There was also Geang Som Tai, an extremely aromatic curry that is particularly popular in southern and central Thailand. My husband absolutely loved it! And of course Pla Yang couldn't be missed - grilled fish as it should be. And for dessert we had Wuun Gati Bai Teuy – absolutely delicious! I can only warmly recommend it. To take away there was Yum Som O - a pomelo salad that was wonderfully fresh and perfectly balanced in terms of taste. All around a great experience!

What an experience! Everything was absolutely delicious, and I can’t wait to go back and try other dishes. Everything was quite spicy (at a perfect level), so make sure you ask for less spicy recommendations if that’s not your thing.

We loved this little restaurant! Staff managed to squeeze the two of us in despite us not having a reservation. Totally worth it! We got the sharing menu. I was especially excited about the desserts, loved the pannacotta from fresh coconut cream. Very floppy and not overly sweet, just perfect.

Nothing but wonderful things to say for this spot. Cozy space, kind and friendly staff, and truly special and delicious food. You won’t be able to find these dishes elsewhere in Berlin. You can tell that they are each so thoughtfully created and made with the utmost care, reflecting in remarkable flavor. I will absolutely be coming back again!

We enjoyed the set menu very much - the fish and mango main and the two desserts were the highlight, but all the rest was great too😋 I also loved the spiciness, finally some 🌶️ in this city😁 and they have wine from my region Emilia Romagna, so I was also pleasantly surprised of this combo☺️ The service is absolutely top notch, very friendly and kind! We will come again to try all the dishes we didn’t manage to try today!

If you're looking for some really good Thai cuisine and you bring curiosity and time, this is absolutely something you should try. The food is incredible, the service is really kind. You won't find white linnen and silver spoons here, but rather a simple and cosy place to feel comfortable in. Expect spicy to be spicy, expect to be surprised by the flavours, expect to share food with your company and try all the things. I come here since 2018 and I still can't recommend this enough.

can tell efforts have been put into the menu to make it like a Michelin menu or something similar but the food was bit dry and the portion is tiny. As a restaurant explore experience, it was pleasant. But not for man who looks for authentic thai dishes.

What an experience! The food is a bit different from what you would expect from a typical Thai place, very playful, a bit fusion, the chef certainly has ambitions towards higher cuisine. Simply delicious and not your typical Thai place!! The dishes (and even the drinks) are full of authentic flavors, you can tell that the ingredients are of high quality and that everything is fresh! Can 100% recommend! The only thing that we personally would improve is the coziness of the place at night. The lights are very bright, I think dimming them and a few candles would really take the vibe to a new level!

Lovely little homey Thai restaurant. Most people get the prix fixe, which is the way to go. Dishes are interesting, imaginative and delicious. Don't expect any presentation. Portions are a bit small and the wine was overpriced (14€ for .2L). Overall, we enjoyed it, but unsure if we would return. For 110€, it felt a bit steep. But we are glad we tried it.

As a Thai and a proud food enthusiast, I highly recommend this place as the most authentic Thai restaurant in town. It's like taking a trip to Thailand! This review is regarding the professionalism of the restaurant management, as I didn't get to try the food I cannot comment on it. I had booked Khao Taan ahead of time for my visit. The day before I received a reminder for my booking so everything seemed to be in order. On the day of the reservation I head towards the restaurant, which is a 40 minute ride from the hotel I was staying at, only to find it closed. I was confused and started calling them multiple times but there was no response. Later that evening while I was going through my email I found in my junk a cancellation of the reservation due to some gas pipes re-installation that had been delayed. The email time read 11.30 AM, which was exactly 8.5 hours before our reservation. Even if it did land in my inbox, being on holiday I am busy sightseeing and not checking my phone all day, just trying to make it from point A to B as I am sure everyone does. I am an avid supporter of small businesses and especially restaurants. I despise restaurant chains and their soulless food. I don't leave bad reviews even when the food is bad as I think everyone can have an off day, we are all human. However, what happened was incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful and could have been prevented with a simple phone call. If you are visiting Berlin for a brief time only and trying to pre-book some restaurants, be warned.

Located on a calm street very close to all the cool spots and crowded places, this place is a hidden gem in the neighborhood. This restaurant serves homestyle Thai dishes, offering dishes that you may not typically find at a Thai restaurant. A meal comes with six courses, with two options available for each course, and the food is served family style except for the soup/dessert. The mushroom soup with light ginger taste and Pak Waan leaves, gives a umami taste. The crispy fried smoked trout dish, served with sour mango salad and cashew nuts, is so refreshing and perfect for summertime. I will come back for more of it! As for the main dishes, we tried the lamb curry and squid, both of which were flavorful and tasty. Lastly, I was amazed by the chestnut dumplings dessert. The soft rice flour wrapping provided a perfect contrast to the crunchy chestnut inside. Overall, a fantastic dining experience!

The food brought me back home. Authentic Thai food for all. It's not very often you find reastaurant like this in Europe. This is my favourite place in Berlin. Food wasn't too spicy (My boyfriend is non-thai and he had no problem eating them) the portion was nicely considerate and we got to try so many things! Warm and welcoming service.

This was definitely the best Thai food I've had in Berlin so far. So delicious!!! The staff was also very friendly :) My only critique concerns the price/portion ratio; unfortunately, the portions are not enough to satisfy two people. We ended up eating more food somewhere else afterwards, and I think the price for the amount of food is a bit ridiculous. I suggest the staff increase the food portions slightly! Cheers :)

Khao Taan has some of the best spicy food I've had in Berlin. Fabulous preset menu, the lamb especially is unbelievably tender. Staff is friendly and attentive but not overbearing I enjoyed every single dish and can't to come back

A perfect meal! Every dish was so balanced and comforting while packing a punch of flavor. The atmosphere, curated but elegantly low-key. Wow wow wow! The most incredible thai restaurant that I have ever been to! All the dishes were absolutely mindblowingly good. It’s like having dinner at your Thai grandma’s which i believe was exactly the concept they were going for. I felt myself craving more when I finished one dish. It was flavorful, spicy, and transported me back to Thailand. The food was simply great and the staff was very nice and attentive. An extraordinary variety of flavors and ingredients, and everything freshly prepared.

Going here is letting yourself be overwelmed by the tastes of authentic and creative Thai food. Not conceptual recipes but dishes which have been finetuned over time. There is lemon grass, plenty chili, spices you might have tasted before, but yet, every bite is different and unique.

Typical Asian restaurant in B-Friedrichshain: small, wooden benches and no ambience. The food was great, but portioned very sparingly: the duck course consisted of bones and the greeting from the kitchen was a bit too limited with 4 cucumber and carrot sticks for 4 people. But the crowning achievement, after asking whether we would like anything else, was the impudence of adding 27 euros to the price for a starter salad (which was not sufficiently marinated and therefore no longer had the same taste as the one that was first served) and a small portion of rice in addition to the price of a 1/2 liter of wine from 27 euros. Nevertheless, the food was good, but with a course menu we also expect that the food doesn't come all at once, but rather in stages. Briefly described: Food great, ambience for 4 people to sit at a small table for 2 with a 1/2 liter of wine for 27 euros and a supplement of a minimalist starter salad and rice for 27 euros in addition to the 49 euros, more cheap than hip and great . We personally cannot recommend it. But it was worth the experience, but we still prefer to go with the price range in Charlottenburg - because here the price/performance/service is more in line.

Upscale Thai cuisine - so good!

We visited Khao Taan on the weekend based on a recommendation. The set menu is basically for the table, although soups and desserts can be chosen individually. We loved the river catfish laap and dry roasted beef with fried egg. A roasted onion cake dessert was a surprise. The restaurant manager was pleased with our enthusiasm. We will be back.

Excellent family restaurent, and you basically dine with the family at a cozy environment. Undoubtedly, one of the best Thai food we experienced so far. The dishes were uniquely customized with untraditional ingredients and spices. Excellent food and services. Definitely a must-try!

Very nice and cosy place, you get a sharing menu with different dishes of your choice. All dishes were very tasty, we especially liked the sourness of the fish soup and also the pork belly and the tender beef curry. Highly recommended

Sehr leckeres Essen, mit einer breiten Palette an Geschmäckern und tollen Gerichten. Man schmeckt, dass frische Zutaten von einer handwerklich ausgebildeten Person verarbeitet werden. Eignet sich meiner Meinung nach für einen "besonderen Abend", es ist etwas außergewöhnlicher aber keine Haut Cuisine. Die Bedienung war sehr nett, schnell und kompetent.

Authentisches, sehr leckeres Thai Essen und netter Service. Das Konzept ist ungewöhnlich für Friedrichshain: Man wählt das Menü als Gruppe (alle müssen sich für die gleiche Speise pro Gang entscheiden) und die Portionen werden dann geteilt. Wie gesagt es hat geschmeckt und ich war satt, aber für mich persönlich ist der Preis von 45 Euro (September 2023) zu hoch bzw. hätte ich erwartet, dass dann wenigstens ein Getränk inklusive ist. Die Getränkepreise haben es, wie hier schon bei anderen Kommentaren beschrieben, wirklich in sich.

Khao Taan is a very traditional Thai food restaurant, from the staff, decor, asian, thai people eating along side with you really means something, and of course, the spicy options are also true to the traditional thai cuisine! 😁 The menu is really original as you have a single price tag and are able to try every dish in the menu basically, on a share-with-all approach! Really great for a group of at least 3 or more people. Everything is really good but i have to stand out the wonderful shrimp soup! Thanks for the experience!

This thai restaurant is very thai authentic food. Food is region Ayutthya and delicate with a set menu option because this is extremely hard to prepare. Haven eaten in the best restaurants in Bangkok this restaurant is there with the best of Thailand with a more French decor.. A totally different thai experience which is is so refreshing after the boring food options of so many others . Thailand has so many fantastic regional dishes and we are happy to recommend this restaurant for a different experience.

Khao Taan is a very spicy, original, thai experience in Berlin. The concept is a shared menu for the table, at a fixed price per person (€45/p.p.). Our choices for food: 🐔 Chicken soup - a great surprise, full of flavour, with a taste of basil and coconut. 🍆 Relish / Salsa - a paste made of sweet pork, aubergine, shrimp paste. Served with vegetables. Very tasty and smooth, it actually tasted more like shrimp. 🥗🌶️ 🔥 Shrimp salad - very crispy prawns, served cold, with veggies, was the begging of a very spicy experience. I actually consider myself someone that enjoys spicy food, but maybe here it was a bit too much, my lips were burning. But then, it was really tasty as well, so I wanted to keep eating it, although I was on fire. 🐟 Cod Curry - also really spicy, but more smooth than the previous. The cod was perfectly cooked, and the coconut milk was a great balance. 🍛 Beef Curry - as we were three, we got the chance to choose both curries. The beef one was perfect, really tender, with fresh herbs and lime. 🐚 Clams - and we went back to burning. Their homemade burnt chilli paste is fire! But the clams were great though. 🥥 Coconut pudding - with a salted coconut cream, which made it a great ending for this meal. The dishes come with all the rice you need, and they also serve Berlin made beer, which was much needed (Pale Ale was really good!) Overall, it's a great experience! Personally, a bit less spicy would have been just perfect. The service is also very friendly and the place is simple and casual. Recommended to make a reservation, and bring cash, as they don't accept cards.

Splendid, tasteful and fun place. Limited seating inside (so make a reservation is my tip). I'll start with my remarks: portions are for sharing and in the end I didn't feel we really ate that much. Especially when comparing it with the price you pay. Now for the the reasons I gave it 5 stars: flavours are exquisite - some spicy dishes, some very savoury, all intensely beautiful. Wine selection is nice, service is familiar and attentive. A special note goes to the two desserts, which blew us away - truly. I suggest ordering more than they tell you to!

This place definitely serves authentic Ayutthaya recipe right in your table in Berlin. Gives the feeling of Thai original food what you can get in Bangkok.
