Katz Orange in Berlin

The food was very good, but it didn't blow me away either. Prices are tough. The ambience, yes, typically hip and rustic, a bit unbalanced. The yard looked tempting, maybe again in the summer. I personally found the service to be a bit stressful, always a casual comment that doesn't really fit the prices. Splitting the bill was a bit of a hassle, apparently it's unreasonable to ask who had what...

Top food, super nice + personal service, good price/performance ratio and very nice atmosphere. When there are a lot of people in the room, not completely quiet, but it was OK for us. I would love to come back again.

I went to Katz Orange with my family to try it out. We all really liked the atmosphere, but we were sitting in a very noisy place (on the upper floor/gallery). It was sometimes very difficult to converse with all the guests whose conversations felt like they were focused on us. The background noise from the clearing station also significantly increased the noise level. I had an aperitif that was ok, but without any “whistle” as did my relatives. For the main course I had the “Jutland salmon” on pumpkin cabbage! This was solidly prepared and tasted good. However, I was missing something special, including the play of colors, the presentation (the eye is included) was sobering. The dessert was fine! The "Petit Four" recommended to us were not very exciting and cut from a single block. In this price range I expected small unique pieces. I really liked the menu, it was manageable and there was something for everyone! I like small cards! Few dishes that the kitchen has to concentrate on, lots of time for love and passion. Mh! The service was very friendly and attentive, but depending on the service person, the simplest service rules (inserting, removing) were missing. It was very bumpy in places, which meant that mishaps were inevitable. All in all: Our evening was not a failure, but the price/performance ratio was definitely not right! 25%-30% less would have made our overall bill more authentic. "I see cooking as an art" At a certain price level I expect an experience, unfortunately I didn't have that! It was solid craftsmanship! We still had a nice evening and later in the day (more and more guests left) it became increasingly quiet, kind regards

Very disappointed. Reserved here for a special occasion. We were seated at a table downstairs in the entrance area in front of the cloakroom/toilet; our question at the beginning of the evening about an alternative table was answered in the negative. The food and service were good, but they couldn't make up for the disappointment with the overall impression. A real conversation was not possible due to the noise and the commotion caused by people constantly walking past or stopping to get dressed/undressed. Since the front door was constantly opening and closing, it was cold and drafty - I spent the entire evening in a jacket. The treat was the cigarette smoke from the leader smoking at the entrance, which wafted in towards our table and food; an absolute no-go with 1 child and 2 teenagers at the table. Conclusion: After our request to change tables was denied at the beginning, we should have left immediately, but that's how it is when you make an appointment and want to have a nice evening - because there is no alternative, you stay. For the price you can expect not only good food and service but also that you will feel comfortable and enjoy the evening. Very unfortunate. As a guest, you won't see any of us again.

This place is definitely a gem. The venue is amazing, the food is delicious, amazing courses and sides. The dessert was also glorious. And the service is just too good to be true. Nevertheless be prepared to spend around 35-40 per person for a full meal with one glass of wine, but it’s definitely worth it.

Hello dear KatzOrange team, We visited you last night in the really beautifully located restaurant. We became aware of you through a recommendation from friends and had a certain idea due to the high prices. We particularly liked the fact that you buy and process high quality products and animal welfare. As a result, we were a little disappointed with the finished product. 5 minutes after ordering our food, we already received our starters. The spare ribs were ok but not particularly warm. The indigo salad was supposed to be the best course of the evening. The main course was home-made bratwurst. The bratwurst didn't seem like it was freshly fried, but rather like it had been warmed up. Unfortunately the beetroot mash was only lukewarm to cold. At a price of €25, not what you expect. The other main course was oyster mushrooms with cabbage. The side dishes were delicious, the oyster mushrooms were not at all convincing. Since there was nothing on the menu, we were a little surprised that such a good and tasty product was simply fried with little love. All you could taste was the breading and the fat. We then had these returned. The conclusion with a walnut parfait was another highlight...very tasty. Due to the relaxed atmosphere and the really beautiful building, the restaurant has a lot of potential. I just wish you could get more of the feeling of fresh cooking. Best regards Your guests

Very small portions of the dishes, it was also served cold and in a medium level quality. The ambiance is nice, its an old building so the overall experience was a bit better, but we will not go there again.

Impressive courtyard when you go to the restaurant. Attractive design inside. But that's where it stops. Unfriendly waiter who had no idea how to talk to guests. The dishes are uninspired, sometimes dry and, above all, far too expensive for the quality. My last time

I had reserved the restaurant months before from Switzerland. The location is lovely, but the staff were completely stressed. After waiting for a table, I had the feeling that after the starter we had been completely forgotten about the main course. The food was quite good and of good quality, price/performance ratio quite ok. Tip: Over the holidays, you may only go out to eat after 9 p.m. Family with 2 young men at the table :)

Appetisers were really nice and wine was delicious. Candy on the bone items were a bit dry and overpriced and we got ignored a few times by the waiters. Desserts weren’t interesting. Restaurant itself was nicely presented.

Outstanding food and wine selection. I had the beef brisket with a glass of Cot du Rhône and my wife had the Pork with some champagne! We got an endive salad to start with and pumpkin as sides. Food was excellent and the folks who served were very pleasant and knew the food and wine on the menu very well. They recommended exactly what we were craving for. Great ambience and great value for money! Thank you!

Best meal we had while in Berlin, our server’s suggestions were spot on, the signature pork and side dishes and the variety of orange (skin contact) wine was all excellent. We had no idea Germany has started orange wine production and an Alsace French varietal we had there was fantastic, thank you!

If you have a special occasion, Katz Orange is a great address. The service is fantastic. You can tell that the service staff know their craft. It's not cheap, but the menus are varied and delicious and vegans and vegetarians also get their money's worth.

The perfect service began right from the opening time. We were there far too early and were let in anyway due to the bad weather. The friendly support continued throughout the entire evening. The food was also great, from a clear menu. You always got a good explanation and recommendation. We felt very comfortable and ate very well. We can really recommend a visit to Katz Orange.

The truly impressive ensemble is located in a quiet backyard. It's always amazing what's hidden in Berlin's backyards. We were there in winter, the outdoor dining is certainly great in summer! The ambience inside is also very appealing! Only the couches are brutally uncomfortable 😁 It's also extremely loud and loud. The restaurant is very well booked, considering the overall performance I would say it is hype. The food is tasty, but falls short of expectations, especially in terms of price-performance. Unfortunately, there is also the concept here of presenting many things in small bowls (family style), which results in rather small portions for high prices. The praised piece of beef brisket is of good quality but not outstanding and the quantity is really manageable. The service is really not good. Little experienced (untrained?) international staff. The real hit was the bread we ordered for €6. 4 slices for 5 people. When suggested that one slice per person might be a good idea, a second basket of bread was brought - and charged separately. Seriously? The overall service quality is well below average. The impression remains of a hyped, trendy restaurant in a beautiful ambience, which at best deserves the rating “average” in terms of cuisine and service.

Incredible atmosphere and really good service, but food was disappointing given the high prices. Would like to come back in the summer for drinks, but could pass this in the winter…

We were a group of six and despite asking for the a la carte menu were upsold to the sharing feast which is a confusing concept and a rip off. The waiter told us we could still request the food options we wanted but despite several members of the group requesting beef it wasn’t brought to the table. The same happened with the starters. Overall the dishes didn’t really go with each other and there were too many flavours on the plate that clashed. The idea of ordering extra was a gimmick that isn’t necessary. We all came away wishing we’d just had the a la carte as originally requested.

It looked great here but I was disappointed to arrive at 10:40pm and be told the kitchen was closed even though their hours said kitchen til 11pm. I still got a great Negroni and the crème brûlée was good but I needed a real meal then. It was my last night in Berlin so I didn’t have time to try it again.

Lovely food beautifully presented.

The food was very tasty and the service was very nice. The table at the entrance is a bit drafty, but otherwise the atmosphere was very pleasant. The Californian boho decor is very beautiful. The food is a special mix of classics with a modern twist (e.g. cornbread as a side dish with beef). A wine was forgotten on our bill, we decided to point this out so that someone doesn't have to pay for it out of their own pocket later. Apart from a thank you and good luck with karma, there was nothing. In our opinion, a liqueur or something similar on the house would have been included. Especially because we later saw that on the wine vs. Retail has a 5x margin.

The food was delicious but I found the starters too expensive. The waitress had failed in her job and came across as very unfriendly. The ambience itself is nice but the acoustics are a disaster. The shop was packed in the evenings and you could only have a shouting conversation, which made the stay unpleasant. If you want to eat here you should definitely make a reservation.

Excessive prices for a very small card that somehow acts more high quality than it is. We had bratwursts that were lukewarm, the spare ribs, which also had a large layer of fat between the meat and the crust, were completely cold. The fries were hot and crispy, but extremely salty. The impudence - a charge for water for 3.50 euros per person - so the five of us had a bottle of water for 17.50 euros. It doesn't work at all. As an apology for the cold food, there were three mini pieces of cake. The service was nice. We still won't come back.

In a charming side street in Berlin lies a restaurant that at first glance looks like an urban oasis. The atmosphere is immediately impressive: an artfully arranged mixture of rustic charm and modern chic welcomes guests. The decoration is detailed and stylish at the same time, with a perfect balance of warm wood tones, soft lighting accents and lovingly selected accessories. Everything looks extremely well maintained, right down to the immaculately clean tables that invite you to linger. The food is undoubtedly delicious, but it falls short of the expectations set by the high prices and surroundings. There is a lack of courage to try something new and that special spark that makes a dish unforgettable. Although the quality of the ingredients cannot be faulted, the execution of the dishes seems a little too confident - that certain something is missing. A disturbing point was the service. While he certainly tries to maintain a professional touch, the execution remains rather average. What was particularly negative was that towards the end we were charged for an unopened bottle of water, which was only put on the table after the meal and shortly before paying. Such details leave a bad aftertaste that spoils the overall experience. The bottom line is that the restaurant seems to live more on hype than on actual performance. The atmosphere may be tempting for a special evening, but if you expect culinary creativity and impeccable service given the prices, you might be disappointed.

The delicious food is again top-notch. Sustainable food prepared to perfection. The reception alone was a bit bumpy, due to a language barrier that we couldn't imagine. I recently dined at Katz Orange for the fourth time, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. The main dish was served cold, which really impacted the quality and taste. I expected a warm, freshly prepared meal, but it seemed as though it had been sitting out for a while. The slow-cooked pork, which I remember as tender and flavorful, was lukewarm and lacked the tenderness it’s known for. Beyond the food quality, the service fell short. The waiter seemed rushed and didn’t take the time to answer our questions. Basic courtesies were missing—he removed our plates without checking if we had finished, leaving us feeling rushed and unwelcome. When we paid, he didn’t even wish us a good evening or ask if we had enjoyed our meal. It was disappointing to experience such low hospitality, especially since it was my French friend’s first visit to the city. Overall, this experience did not live up to my previous visits, and I hope the restaurant considers enhancing both the food quality and service attentiveness.

Had a wonderful evening. Super location. Tasty food. Only point of attention. Make sure the description on the menu is correct. We ordered a brisket and got pulled pork. That was super tasty but not what we expected.

Note: I have updated this review with respect to how courteous of a reply they had to the original raw review. The feed back has been received, thus I'm writing a much lighter review. Arriving at the beautiful building was quite impressive, the staff were extremely welcoming and the resturant beautiful. We had the family style dinner, it was a bit hard to hear our server at times, but the starting cocktails were exceptional, unsure what they were, but they were great. The initial starters were great, well executed though hard to figure out what exactly the cuisine is. Odd mix of dishes. The pumpkin soup is amazing, but the mains for me were very disappointing. The signature, while can be broken down with two forks, it's more a crumble than a fall apart braise. Though this could be what's considered tender in Germany. The desert was also interesting, though odd still. A sort of shaved ice with toppings, similar to Kakigōri shaved ice in Japan. Cocktails again exceptional. The team care deeply about the resturant, I personally found the menu confusing and unbalanced. With certain items ruining my time. I will say I'm very critical of meat bring South African, so it's unlikely that others would have the same experience as me.

Great cuisine, great location, great wines and very nice staff

It’s hard to review this restaurant. The food was superb but the experience was far from satisfying. We arrived at 8.00, by 8.15 the orders had been taken, the starters served and cleared (before the wine arrived) and the main courses had been served. When I enquired whether this excessive speed was normal, the vaguely disinterested server said the kitchen had been busy the night before and just wanted everyone out as soon as possible. Charming! So if you you want great food with minimum atmosphere or sense of occasion the go for it. If you want a more rounded experience then I’d give it a miss.

Since it was a Saturday evening, the restaurant was busy and therefore quite loud. I really liked the design of the rooms! It was stylish but also comfortable at the same time. The welcome was warm, the coat rack was removed and we were seated at a table for two, which was honestly tiny and stood in front of a pillar in the middle of the room (so not exactly the nicest place in the restaurant). The staff was friendly and attentive. The map is small and clear. I had a portion of breaded cauliflower with potatoes for 23 euros. That's a steep price, but it was definitely very tasty. I found the prices of the water outrageous. A refillable bottle of still water was placed on the table and was charged per person... so at 2 x 3.90 euros that makes a price of 7.80 euros for water. That gave the whole thing a strange aftertaste. Despite everything, it is a great location.

Very nice restaurant, great ambience. The food is good but not very good. The food and drinks are too expensive for the portions served and the standards that the restaurant has. Without asking, the staff replaces the water bottle that has not yet been completely drunk (sparkling water in an open carafe). This will then be charged with a further €6.

Just an exceptional dining experience. Everything was so flavorful. We did the tasting menu and essentially tried everything, it was a lovely experience, but to be honest the desert was the most underwhelming part. I'd recommend skipping the dessert tag on.

Incredible from start to finish. Each dish was so flavorful and really complimented one another - it was all so delicious!! Excellent wine and cocktail menu, as well. Wonderful staff and ambiance. Just walking up to the restaurant is really warm and picturesque. I cannot recommend more highly! This is my second time going and cannot wait to return!

Very pleasant atmosphere and very well attended. We were just unlucky that the people sitting next to us at the table were incredibly loud so that we almost had to shout at each other to understand each other. But this is not the fault of the restaurant but of the guests. But the food was great!
