The potato box is an established fixture in Duisburg and is known throughout the city. It is located in a listed half-timbered house that has served as a restaurant since it was built in 1770. As the name suggests, it's all about potatoes. The menu ranges from classics such as potato pancakes and baked potatoes to more modern creations such as potato pancakes with mostly Mediterranean-inspired sauces. You can also get some traditional regional dishes such as heaven and earth or endives here. Maybe it's because I'm not a big potato lover, but even though the food was well prepared, it didn't blow me away in terms of taste. Considering that potatoes are actually very cheap, I find the prices surprisingly high. The restaurant's greatest strength is the building itself. Dining in a half-timbered building has a very unique character. The wooden floors creak, the windows let in little light, and the furniture takes you back in time. The beer garden outside is no less beautiful with a view of the half-timbered house, and the old enclosure wall does a good job of shielding the beer garden from the outside world. If, like me, you're not necessarily the biggest potato lover, it's still worth at least stopping by the potato crate for a beer. Simply because of the ambience, which is rare for Duisburg.

Every Duisburg resident should eat here at least once. The ambience is amazing, how much work has to be done to maintain and maintain it and the classic creaking of a wooden ceiling.

From the starter to the dessert everything was delicious. There were 5 of us and everyone was more than satisfied. At the end there was a potato schnapps.

Here you get really good food, as the name suggests, everything based on potatoes, in a rustic atmosphere. A beautiful, old, historic half-timbered house and a great kitchen. I would probably mention what I ate and what I recommend, but actually you can recommend everything on the menu. I've eaten there several times, a total of three different dishes and was able to taste some of their dishes with my family: everything was brilliant. I find it particularly funny that you can get a potato schnapps that has a topping of a very small potato pancake with a little salmon. This is just a really fun idea for a restaurant that is committed to potatoes. In the end it's just a vodka with a bite. I think this kind of schnapps never tastes good, everyone can have a different opinion, but I would order it again and again. It's just a funny combination and the small - just like the large - potato pancakes are simply wonderful! Absolute recommendation!

A very cozy restaurant to enjoy delicious dishes with and around the 🥔 potato and various other dishes. It's worth it.

We spontaneously decided on this restaurant and are absolutely thrilled. Even though we didn't have a reservation, they arranged things very nicely and gave us a table in a very friendly manner. The service was super nice. We really enjoyed the food! The menu is varied, also very good if you only want to eat vegetarian. The atmosphere is very cozy and sophisticated. We would definitely like to come back!

Last night we ate a spicy Heinrich again. The taste was a shadow of earlier times, too much puree, tasted like nothing. And then the price, the equivalent of almost 40 DM for a pancake, unbelievable impudence, almost a rip off. Then almost 4 euros for a disgusting tasting Sinalco Cola or 6 euros (12 DM) for an apple spritzer, so you can alienate guests. We will avoid the potato box in the future because of the prices and poor quality, it's a shame.

Very tasty regional dishes and as the name suggests, the potato plays the main role. I can only recommend it and there is also a good selection of dishes for vegetarians.

Wir hatten hier unsere Weihnachtsfeier von der Firma mit 13 Personen. Das Ambiente ist gemütlich, der Service war sehr freundlich und sehr schnell. Die Karte ist nicht groß, aber sehr passend. Die Gerichte waren sehr gut portioniert und sehr lecker.

Dined there today with several friends. Beautiful and rustic atmosphere in an old half-timbered house. Old-established inn, but never “on the radar”. We really liked it. Really friendly staff. Food is rustic, good portions and really good. There are parking spaces along the street, so you have to look where something is free. Booking a table in advance is definitely helpful if there are several people.

This nice restaurant is located in a historic building with a romantic beer garden. In a relaxed atmosphere We had a great evening, with delicious food and drinks. The service was great 👏 quick, friendly 😊 without being intrusive. We sat in the beer garden, which is beautifully designed. Thanks to the trees and parasols, there are plenty of shaded areas. The food is amazing 💯 the ingredients for the salad are fresh and crunchy. I can only recommend the dish of the day, pork medallions with Riesling cream sauce and slipper noodles. The meat was still sizzling at the table. The starters were also great, potato pancakes with salmon and a sophisticated apple-horseradish dip, a delight!! We will definitely come back 👍 I can recommend the daily dishes, today I had sauerkraut with potato bratwurst / pork and potato pancakes ‼️mega DELICIOUS 😋

We found the restaurant about 5 years ago through a voucher book and are always thrilled. Delicious dishes based on the tuber. Friendly service and the food comes quickly to the table. Our friends were also very enthusiastic. We'll make a better reservation next time. This time we were lucky.

Here I got the worst potato pancakes I've ever eaten. If you think you can get freshly grated and fried potato pancakes in a potato house, you're wrong: industrially produced frozen flatbreads are quick thrown into the deep fryer and sold for 14 euros...that's like getting a Dr. Oetker frozen pizza in a pizzeria. They bothered me all night long - not to mention the taste. Never again. The only positive thing was the really nice service.

The potato box is a very open-air restaurant, so it is advisable to make a reservation for the weekend. The potato dishes are delicious and the service is impeccable. We would be happy to visit you again.

I've been a guest at the "Kartoffelkiste" a few times. The atmosphere is cozy, although the tables are quite close together. The service makes an effort, but friendliness often falls by the wayside. The menu is manageable - which I personally think is good. If you like hearty food, you'll definitely find something here, but you should be very hungry. Unfortunately the food is very greasy, which is a big negative point in my opinion. All in all, unfortunately not a recommendation from me 😔

There are several guest rooms, which means the guests are spread out well. There is also a fairly large beer garden that the street leads past. The food: We had the Dussan pan, potato pancakes with applesauce and herring. The food was really tasty, the portions were very generous, and the waiting time was short. The service was very attentive and friendly. We were provided with drinks well and quickly. All in all we were very satisfied but it wasn't cheap. It's amazing what you can do with a few fresh ingredients and a lot of skill from an otherwise normal potato pancake. The inn has been serving guests since 1770 and is incredibly charming.

Rustic, brewery style, but vegetarians can also find good food here! It will be more difficult to go vegan. Concrete saw salad was also good, one of the waitresses was a bit grumpy, but anyone who has ever been to the Cologne brewery knows - it has to be that way! A round thing!

Now about the food: We had two delicious starters, a vegetarian and a hearty main course and for dessert the homemade red jelly. The food was really tasty, the portions were very generous, and the waiting time was short. The service was very attentive and friendly. We were well supplied with drinks and we never had to wait long for them. Although the restaurant was busy and there weren't many free tables left. All in all we were very satisfied. It's amazing what you can do with a few fresh ingredients and a lot of skill from an otherwise normal potato pancake. We will definitely come back, even if we had to travel over 40 km.

As always, the food was delicious and the portions were generous. The service is quick and friendly. The prices for the rather large portions are okay. But what leaves a bad aftertaste are the prices of drinks. A really bad cappuccino costs €3.90, a 0.3 liter beer costs €4, etc. It's a bit of a rip-off.

Still great with the same lovely staff! Unfortunately prices continue to rise! Before 2024 Sunday again with the bikes from Moers to the potato crate. I was longing for the hot Heinrich! Weather permitting we were able to sit outside in the beautiful beer garden. Staff as always friendly and quick! The wife had chopped potato casserole, very tasty, first of all the pumpkin soup, which we had quite often, really great, unfortunately my Heinrich was no longer hot and a pretty thin buffer, a shame for the first time! Otherwise always very good, definitely a slip-up! The hot sauce for the hot Heinrich is also great, but you have to let us know. Next time it will definitely be 5 stars again! Update 22 was longing for the Heinrich again, which this time was perfect straight from the oven and not luke warm like last time! For the first time, my wife had rösti (kind of calzone) filled with shredded cheese and gratinated with cheese, it was really hot and I was allowed to try it and it tasted great. 4 would be happy to go back to 5 and we sat outside in the shade when the weather was nice. Service was quick and very nice as always, see you next time just !!!

Simply fantastic, the old half-timbered house is nicely furnished on the inside. The employees are all friendly and always have a nice saying to say, and they are not as intrusive as you would otherwise be used to. The food was simply wonderful, 5 stars are not enough for it, the side salad looked very appetizing when everything had been cut just beforehand and the dressing was wonderful, not the usual sauce from a bottle. Really just delicious, we haven't eaten so well outside for a long time and it certainly wasn't the last time.

Great restaurant. Everything is really right here. The atmosphere is very rustic, the food is really good and, above all, something different. And the staff is always nice and professional. Every now and then it happens that you have to wait a little longer, but I always found it to be within reason. Not the cheapest in terms of price, but quality has its price. My recommendation is the Düssern pan. But even the salad is a poem; I have rarely eaten such a delicious and balanced dressing.

Ich war gestern Abend mit Freunden in einer Veranstaltung auf dem Uni-Campus - und die Kartoffel-Kiste war gut mit dem Auto zu erreichen. Wer Kartoffeln mag, wird sich in dem Restaurant sehr wohl fühlen. Die Auswahl an Gerichten ist groß und man findet viele verschiedene Varianten der Zubereitung von Kartoffeln auf der Karte. Bei einigen der Gericht, kann man zwischen mehreren Kartoffel-Varianten wählen. Die "Kiste" ist ein inem sehr schönen und gemütlichen Fachwerkhaus - und man sieht sowohl von außen als auch von Innen das Fachwerk. Die Inneneinrichtung ist passen zum Baustiel überwiegend aus Holz - ich habe mich in dem Restaurant sehr wohl gefühlt. Zur Straße hin hat das Restaurant einen Biergarten. Nicht gerade etwas für Anfang Februar, aber wenn es wieder etwas wärmer ist, sitzt man da zienlich sicher sehr gemütlich. Die Auswahl meines Abendessens fiel mir schwer - es gab viele Gerichte, die ich gerne probiert hätte. Ich habe mich für Schweinefiletgeschnetzeltes Toskana entschieden (mit Kartoffelschupfnudeln) , war sehr lecker, aber ich musste einige der Schupfnudeln zurück lassen - ich war pappsatt. Zwei meiner Freunde haben ebenfalls "kapituliert" und sich ein "Doggy Bag" geben lassen. Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis stimmt, die Speisen sind zwar kein Schnäppchen, aber bei der Qualtität und Quantität sind die Preise angemessen.. Die Auswahl an Getränken ist recht groß, der Service ist freundlich. Wenn ich 'mal wieder in der Ecke von Duisburg bin, komme ich gerne wieder.

Ein bekanntes, alteingesessenen Restaurant in Duisburg. Die Kartoffeln sind hier der Hauptdarsteller und wer diese gerne mag, ist hier genau richtig. Das Ambiente ist gemütlich und urig; allerdings stehen einzelne Tische recht eng beieinander was besonders in der Erkältungszeit nicht immer so passend und angenehm ist. Das Essen ist lecker, reichhaltig, abwechslungsreich und auch für Vegetarier findet sich erfreulicherweise eine angemessene Auswahl. Ich hatte die Folienkartoffel mit dem großen Salat. Insgesamt hat es mir sehr gut geschmeckt, nur das Dressing des Salates war etwas tröge. Hier würde ich mir etwas mehr Raffinesse wünschen (z.B. mehr Auswahlmöglichkeiten beim Salatdressing).

Zünftige old fashioned Location. Super Service. Richtig Ruhrpott - ehrlich, locker, bodenständig. Extrem leckerer und superfrischer (Beilagen)Salat. Die Hauptgerichte sind wirkliche Kalorienbomben und deftig-zünftig-herzhaft. Wer es richtig heftig deftig mag, ist hier absolut an der richtigen Stelle.
