KAI40 Restaurant & Bar in Rostock

We were at KAI40 in the early evening, and it wasn't that busy yet. I don't think it's so bad in a hotel restaurant if it's a bit quieter. Walking through the hotel lobby, you're greeted by such a pleasant aroma. For starters, we had hummus with beetroot and beef tartare. Both were excellent and pleasantly seasoned. The tartare was velvety in the mouth. No trace of tendons or anything that would negatively affect the texture. The hummus was very creamy, not a hint of bitterness (can happen when using dark tahini), and also wonderfully seasoned. For main courses, we had spaghetti al o e olio and a vegan bowl. The vegan bowl was truly something different. Avocado cream with quinoa, chickpeas, and pickled cucumbers, onions, and sun-dried tomatoes. You have to be willing to embrace the combination, though. The spaghetti was quite spicy (not overly so) and also had a fair amount of garlic. My only criticism would be that the plate was very hot, and as a result, the Parmesan eventually formed "lumps," which wasn't very pleasant in the mouth. The service was friendly and quick (but not rushed). The staff also always made eye contact whenever they were nearby. The quantities were actually quite large. A starter and main course are only really possible if you're really hungry. Or you can share a starter. The wines we chose were excellent. The location is central, and after dinner, you can take a walk along the Warnow River if you like. Overall, a great experience at KAI40. Highly recommended. And the price/performance ratio is more than reasonable.

We spontaneously had dinner here on Saturday evening, made a reservation 50 minutes in advance by phone, surprisingly no problem and was very friendly. About the food: in short, incredibly tasty, lovingly and professionally prepared, 5/5! (Asparagus cream soup and the house burger with green asparagus). The house spritzers were also very good! Priced at just over €60 for 2 people including a starter, completely ok. Service: Basically good, but I've had better experiences here. Forgot cutlery and during!!!! Unfortunately, it's not possible to answer the phone while serving... the phone can ring for 10 seconds, but it really wasn't well received at all... Otherwise, nice, friendly and courteous staff. 3/5 Ambience: Nice location in downtown Rostock, but away from the hustle and bustle. With direct hotel access it has that hall vibe, but the decor is very tasteful and appropriate. Accessibility is also a dream, tram (tram) right in front of the door. Parking is also possible without any problems at the city harbor with a short walk or in the hotel's own underground car park. 4.5/5 Conclusion: Definitely worth a visit. Based on other, actually very positive experiences, we hope that the service faux pas with the telephone was just a slip-up ;) the spoon is given :D

Asparagus time at KAI40 Pure enjoyment

We had a very nice evening with super good food, a very nice atmosphere and very, very good service. Here you can get the best crème brûlée in Rostock. Thanks to a very nice recommendation, we have the “You can hardly get more chocolate!” eaten. Super good!

A huge selection of really delicious food. There was something for everyone, from fish, meat, vegetarian, cake, various desserts and even freshly tapped soft ice cream. There was water and coffee on the tables to accompany this extensive offering. Sparkling wine, beer and juice were served by the service staff. The only drawback I have is that the time at 12 o'clock is no longer breakfast time, but that's just my personal feeling. Otherwise great!

Absolutely amazing experience at KAI40! I tried the steak in a mustard-onion crust and it was phenomenal – perfectly grilled, juicy, and packed with flavor. The crust added a delicious tangy-sweet kick, and the side of potatoes was the perfect match: crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Great service and a cozy, modern atmosphere made the visit even better. Highly recommend this spot if you're craving a high-quality meal with a creative twist!

Service as always nice, friendly and competent. The brunch food was of good quality, the lamb ragout was great. The ambience would have deserved 5 stars for Rostock standards, but unfortunately the tables are always set rather simply (cups without saucers, no Easter decorations on Holy Saturday, no bread plates - cloth napkins and a tablecloth would be the icing on the cake)

It was a wonderful time, I went to Easter brunch. The selection of food is great 👌 and the wines are super delicious.

The restaurant is beautiful, harmonious and you are treated very courteously. I can absolutely recommend the food, I had the burger. A large portion and I couldn't finish it. A clear must to stop here.

I can highly recommend the hotel even though (or precisely because) it is in the hotel building 👍 The ambience leaves nothing to be desired. It's very modern and chic, but not kitschy. To start there was a delicious bread with butter and cranberry lard, which tasted very good. The tomato soup was also very good 🍅 the vegan bowl as the main course was surprisingly good because the ingredients were very well chosen and some ingredients were served warm. The service was A1 (even though my order was initially forgotten, but I wasn't rushing and so had no problem waiting). In terms of price, it's completely okay, especially if you get a discount on food and drinks as a Radisson Rewards member. I will definitely use it again when I am there. 👌

The ambience of the KAI40 is convincing: stylish, high-quality furnishings and a great atmosphere. Unfortunately the food couldn't quite keep up. The veal schnitzel was tough and small, more like pork schnitzel, while the fries covered almost the entire plate - more focus on meat and salad would have been desirable. The cucumber salad tasted good, but the portions were far too small and watery. The service was friendly but disorganized. Although we were greeted politely, there was a lack of attention: our bread basket didn't arrive until the main course, empty plates remained for a long time, and overall we didn't really feel welcome. The long wait took away our desire for dessert. Conclusion: Great ambience, but there is still room for improvement when it comes to food and service.

The Kai40 restaurant is located in the Radisson Blu Hotel in downtown Rostock with a view of the Warnow. Between Xy burger shops, various "Italian" restaurants and other mainstream restaurants with template concepts, Kai40 comes with its very own style. They separated from the former “Osteria” and concentrated on their real strengths. Regional foods and newly interpreted or traditional Nordic dishes but also well-known classics brought to the plate in their own style. Chef Kai Pagel has established a feel-good kitchen here that comes without any frills or unnecessary decoration. Good taste and dishes from the good old days or childhood memories. First there was a lukewarm and crispy dark bread with walnuts and a subtle note of pepper, which was balanced by the sweetness of the cranberry lard. The beef tartare was very proportional, robust in the bite with a delicately sweet and sour spicy marinade. Classically served with shallots, capers and egg. The philosophy of chef Mr. Pagel and his team is also reflected here. The “Wilde Carbonara” was particularly noteworthy. Pasta cooked to perfection with an aromatic, strong herbal pesto marinated with delicately melting but complex-tasting wild ham, whose salty note brought a certain balance to the sweetness of the cranberries. On top a creamy burrata. Comfortable cuisine without much discussion! The Kai40 Bowl plays with the full range of flavors....... Crisp radishes with sweet and spicy pickles, grilled honey carrots, port wine onions, quinta and barley as well as delicately pink cooked veal slices with a cream of smoked fish. This is where the interplay of warm-cold, sweet-sour, crunchy and braised develops. Plus some crunch and invigorating spiciness. The menu also includes sweet classics such as crème brûleé or pear soup with klüttern or a quadruple chocolate variation, which is perfect for sharing for two people. An exciting address for all taste lovers!

Wonderful stylish atmosphere, absolutely great service, everyone was friendly and accommodating without being intrusive, the food is really sensational. Prices are high, but justified, as the service stands out and the dishes are really special variants. The ribs are an absolute recommendation, as is the wild carbonara.

Pure culinary delight!!! Best restaurant in Rostock. “Bite from here” appetizer; Main course “rump steak”; dessert “pear soup”. We were very surprised by the very good quality of the food. The service was friendly, the atmosphere was great and the price was reasonable. Star quality in Rostock, what a surprise.

Their portion is quite big and priced nicely. Interior is absolutely gorgeous, food is tasty, and the drinks are also satisfactory. Eisbein portion is way bigger than expected. sadly they don’t have neither lieblich or alcohol free Wine- everything is just trocken. But they made it up with their gin/sprits options and also the tonic like Japanese yuzu tonic is something i don’t often find.

We ate there for the first time on my birthday. The first impression of the restaurant was very positive, it is a cozy atmosphere with warm light and a nice atmosphere. The food was wonderful, the quality matched the price and the service was great too. It wasn't too intrusive and not too little either. All in all it was a perfect place to celebrate special days. Always my pleasure :)

A great hotel with nice staff. We felt very comfortable.

We landed here at short notice and were given a very warm welcome. Our table request was immediately fulfilled. The menu is very varied and offers food for every taste. We had both veal schnitzel and burgers as well as the pulled beef sandwich. Everything was very nicely prepared and extremely tasty. For dessert we also had various dishes from the dessert menu, which were also excellent. All in all, a wonderful evening in a lovely atmosphere.

There were three of us for the dinner buffet. Our waitress Kristin was very friendly and in a good mood. We had a lot of fun😁👍! The food was delicious and was continually replenished over the two hours we were there. The breakfast is also exceptional and cannot be compared to any hotel we know of!!! Hello, We were there last Saturday, December 14th. with our family at Kai40 for the Advent brunch. The ambience was very nice and Christmassy and the service was wonderful throughout. We were well served and always felt comfortable there. The food was also very good. Everything was prepared very tasty and there was also a wide variety on offer from fruit platters to walnut pasta to duck and delicious desserts. A clear recommendation from us! We were there on November 6th. Dined at Kai 40 and had a wonderful evening with the family in the modern ambience of the restaurant. The service was very friendly and attentive. The food tasted great and was good value for money. We have vegetarians in the family and they highly praised the Beyond Burger. We would love to come back.

The atmosphere and the food were very appealing. Modern furnishings, central location, clean toilets and lots of staff. The food was delicious – including selection and speed of preparation. The prices were okay for the quality, I found the price-performance ratio to be okay. Card payment possible. The staff also served quite professionally, even if there was room for improvement. Strangely, the opening times did not match those on the website and on Google. And I had the feeling that I wasn't that welcome at first as a guest with two children. At 4 p.m. the restaurant was empty, all seats were free. The waitress asked if we had a reservation instead of greeting us in a friendly manner. When I said no, she made us wait and turned to her supervisor. I found this to be unfriendly. The manager then kindly placed us in a seat in the middle of the room - it could have been a window seat because all the tables were free. I had to remember the child seat. There were colored pencils and a sheet that could be painted. My impression: The professionalism of the staff urgently needs to be improved.

Absolutely great and well-frequented rooftop bar with a beautiful, contemporary ambience; For me as a gin fan, the selection of around 20 gins was an absolute blast and I thought the recommendation of a matching tonic was great; My favorite that evening was the classic, finely nuanced Müritz Gin.

Very very nice lots of food. Also gluten free. Since I haven't been allowed to eat wheat for 13 years, it's often a shame that there is very little gluten-free in many hotels, but here there is an awful lot of gluten-free. I think that the food here in the hotel is incredibly tasty and varied. I can't complain. The service was also very, very nice. Thank you very much for this service and this large room and everything about it.

We have enjoyed breakfast here several times and can highly recommend it. What should be highlighted is the friendly and attentive service staff, especially the junior staff Melinda and Malte. We'd love to come back.

Sunday brunch was consistently great, the trainees were lovingly trained by experienced staff.

There's not much to write about it other than: 100%. Hardly any hotel in Germany in this segment can keep up with breakfast. Keep it up and thank you for the great breakfast. This is the only reason why the trip to Rostock is worth it.

A short stop in Rostock - coincidence led us to KAI 40 - and we continued on happily. This was an indescribably beautiful culinary highlight of our Baltic Sea trip.

A great bar on the ground floor at the Radisson Blu with delicious drinks, the cocktail menu is very well designed. Special requests were also fulfilled. The service was super nice (although a bit overwhelmed at times). Now to the negative aspect: the (newly opened) rooftop bar was recommended to us. But an evening visit turned out to be a bitter disappointment. The great view was quickly spoiled because even after more than 10 minutes we weren't asked if we wanted something to drink... the waiters seemed completely overloaded - but we were warmly welcomed again on the ground floor.

Unfortunately, dogs are not welcome in this restaurant. So we decided not to visit.

We spontaneously looked for a family room and quickly found what we were looking for in the Radisson Blu in Rostock. The staff is incredibly friendly, but not intrusive. After a great meal followed by a sauna session, we sat down in the hotel bar with our kids and were warmly welcomed here too! Now we're enjoying our evening and the kids are playing in the play lounge. This is really how to endure it. One thing is certain for us... we'll be back!

A really, really nice restaurant with very courteous and friendly people in service and in the kitchen. We ate there with our 2 children. Both ours and the children's meals (chicken fricassee and schnitzel with fries) were extremely tasty. This is rare, especially with children's meals. Extra wishes were fulfilled and otherwise it was a successful experience there. We are very excited as a family. All four 👍🥰 It's worth going there!

I accidentally discovered the KAI40 restaurant today. I just wanted to sit down quietly for a moment to book a sailing spot for the HanseSail using my cell phone. But I had poor data reception. The service employee welcomed me extremely nicely and responded to my situation sensitively. I asked for something maritime, she recommended the fish soup and let me choose a seat. I booked my ship and then spontaneously decided on the fish soup and water. First there were two slices of bread with delicious cranberry greaves and pleasantly salted butter. A little later I was served the white fish soup. A great recommendation! When I asked, the competent waiter explained to me that it was made without cream. The whitish broth is only created by the fish and the root vegetables. She said the fish taste would come out purer. I could agree with that. I asked about the rooftop bar and only then found out that the KAI40 belongs to the Radisson Blu hotel group. On the way to the toilet I discovered a kind of lounge area with a wine rack and a bar. Everything was beautifully furnished and thoughtfully designed. Even in the light-flooded restaurant, I noticed the great lights on the ceiling. An extraordinary experience, all the employees I met and sometimes spoke to were very friendly, personable and competent. I would love to come again to enjoy the view from the roof over the city harbor or a wine - or to try another kitchen creation and have a nice conversation again. Absolute recommendation!

Very tasty Caesar salad and first of all a super delicious bread with sea salt butter. Great atmosphere and very polite staff.

The service is top - unfortunately the food is no more. On our last visit, the fries and fried potatoes were less than standard, the Baltic Sea pikeperch was unfortunately frozen and very dry. Unfortunately it's no longer worth the price. There would have been a small compensation for our feedback... but the drinks were good. Maybe we'll come back again... but not anytime soon. Very unfortunate.
