Beautiful atmosphere, cool terrace, friendly and dedicated host and service, good food, much of it homemade, feel-good atmosphere

Unfortunately, the restaurant fell far short of our expectations. We found the food bland and tasteless. The owner assured us that everything was homemade, which we found hard to believe. Our request for the food without cilantro couldn't be accommodated. At least, that's what the waiter told us, claiming that cilantro is an essential ingredient in every recipe. After all, he said, we were at a Mexican restaurant, and that's standard practice there. The owner vehemently disagreed, but only after we had ordered. This strongly suggests that everything is pre-prepared and nothing is cooked fresh. The owner's attempt to salvage the situation and his friendly manner did improve the overall impression somewhat. Having visited several Mexican restaurants in North Rhine-Westphalia, we know there's definitely room for improvement. The owner assured us that we were the first customers in 10 years of operation to complain about the taste. However, the reviews tell a different story. We left our food after just a few bites. What a shame.

Good food but not amazing, better for takeaway I think. Staff wasn't that friendly with unknowns, but very friendly with regulars. Wasn't bad but not exciting.

Vegan options were available, and most portions were large enough. Unfortunately, the vegetables weren't always cooked through and were still hard; raw vegetables are good, but there was too much of that 😂

We went to Jalapeño Mexican Food in Bielefeld today and had a wonderful evening. The food was excellent, fresh, and perfectly balanced in flavor. The service was attentive, warm, and very professional. The owner deserves special mention; his passion and enthusiasm create a fantastic atmosphere. We wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back.

The food was delicious. The service was friendly, though at times they seemed a bit lost. It was very crowded, which made it feel cramped at times. The outdoor seating was uncomfortable, and there was a draft. I would definitely choose the indoor seating next time.

We would have loved to eat there. Unfortunately, there wasn't a single parking space to be found anywhere after we'd squeezed our Sprinter through Bielefeld's chaotic traffic. So we ended up eating in Steinhagen. There, we were able to park right in front of our chosen restaurant without any hassle. What a shame!

Great food and even fantastic homemade lemonade! Next time I'll definitely make time for dessert. They even offered the option to pre-order because of theater tickets. And the album with the homegrown chilies and vegetables speaks volumes about the owner – truly unique!

The service was absolutely terrible. We were consistently ignored for 45 minutes, despite repeatedly speaking to different waiters. We then left without eating or drinking. I've truly never experienced such a bad restaurant service, even when it's busy.

The burritos were too dry for my taste, and my spicy dip tasted too much like vinegar (perhaps that's the authentic way it's supposed to taste). However, the service was very friendly, and we had a perfect time when it was practically empty (around 4 pm on a Friday). Next time, I'd like to try something different, maybe a burger. I appreciated that the menu clearly explained what each item, such as enchiladas, nachos, burritos, etc., actually was. There was a picture of each category at the top. On the way out, we were welcome to help ourselves to a small snack bar.

Highly recommended. Because of the location, we initially thought it was a fast food joint. It's a top-notch restaurant. A good Mexican restaurant, far removed from the monotony of franchises, and now a classic in Bielefeld's old town! Ehab and his team still put their heart and soul into their work, occasionally using home-grown vegetables for the delicious dishes at Jalapeno. Ehab is particularly fond of chili plants, so there's always green and red chili pesto available. These allow everyone to spice up their dishes as needed, while the dishes always come out mild. Depending on the season, fresh chilies of all shapes and colors, or even seedlings for home, are brought to the table on the house. Delicious cocktails at fair prices are also available. You wouldn't expect to find the two cozy terraces at the rear of the building from Hagenbruchstrasse.

First of all, the service was friendly and the food came super fast... That's normal for Mexican restaurants, since everything is prepared very well, but it shouldn't go unmentioned. The food itself was OK - I really enjoy Mexican food and, yes, there are better restaurants, but everything was fresh and tasted OK. The salad dressing wasn't my thing at all, but that's a matter of taste. We sat on the terrace, which was OK - the restrooms were very clean 👍🏼 Overall, a mediocre experience. I wouldn't go back.

This is my second time eating at Jalapeño. The ambiance, service, and food are all top-notch. The interior is very pleasantly designed, there's a suitable outdoor area in the summer, and the restrooms are tidy and clean. Definitely not my last visit👆🏼

Went here with my boyfriend due to the great reviews, was very disappointed though. The drinks were fine, we got the Chiquitos for an appetizer and while the plate was very hot the food itself was borderline cold but they were still pretty decent. For main course my boyfriend got one of the enchiladas with Mexican rice, absolutely horrible. I couldn’t stand one bite and had to force it down. My burrito with the chili con carde was really good compared to that but again the food was unfortunately pretty cold when we got it. It wasn’t even busy during the time we went, there were two other couples there besides us. Our Mexican rice was also undercooked unfortunately. Went home with a cramped stomach and nausea. Should’ve just gone to McDonalds, honestly.

What a beautiful location, food meets enjoyment here. Wonderfully prepared dishes a real taste experience. The menu is full of a lot of delicious dishes so you just have to try them out... Although you don't know exactly what is hidden in individual dishes, the employees are there to help and advise! The staff is very attentive and courteous, which is very commendable. A nice restaurant with a super friendly waiter! No long wait for food and delicious cocktails! The highlight after your meal is the candy bar, where you can take a small dessert with you for free!

The rooms are cozy, but it was very cold there that day. We put our jackets back on after a short while. The service wasn't unfriendly, but not overly friendly either. We asked for another spoon, but didn't get it and no one from the service came to ask if everything was ok. That means from the time we served until I asked for the bill, there was no one from the service to be seen, although very there was little going on that day. The meat in the burrito was cold and therefore inedible, the salad was carelessly prepared, the taccos were just like you get in any supermarket. The sauces and dips as well as the potato wedges were very good. The chilli con carne gratinated with cheese was ok, but a bit too much cheese and way too spicy. We definitely won't eat there anymore.

The food here is very tasty. Especially the vegetarian quesadilla and the banana dessert were to die for! 💛 Little tip: A sign at the entrance would help to recognize the restaurant better 😊.

Cold "Mexican" food comes to the table. After a friendly request, the food was picked up, served on the same plate and packed full of rocket to hide it. Churizio cut into thin rubber slices is more similar to Turkish garlic sausage. Oh yes, and there was no sign of Mexicans anywhere. Questions about whether everything was OK was answered honestly. The answer was short and sweet: No it's not, it was cold, it was chunky and not tasty. The chef's answer? Waiter? Maybe boss? Things used to be different. But that's supposedly what it says on the menu. > Paid 150 euros. Absolutely not fair

Very nice, large portions, very tasty food and fast and friendly service, even though it was very busy on a Saturday evening. My child was sad that he had forgotten his pocket money because he really wanted to give a tip for the delicious meal.

The food is always very good and beautifully prepared, and the price/performance ratio is also right. The small candy bar that everyone can help themselves to at the end is also nice. I always prefer to sit in the winter garden, which is very cozy at any time of the year and is ideal for a cocktail evening with friends. Literally the nicest mexican we have ever had, fresh quality ingredients. The owner is an absolute sweetheart too, grows his own organic produce and you can really taste the difference. The homemade lemonade was delicious too. A must visit!

Chicken as dry and hard as a rock

City for two was informed at the beginning and accepted. Nothing about the rules was communicated when ordering New colleague apparently didn't know. The comment that this was not communicated in this way was simply ignored. I was otherwise happy to be a guest but that's a no go.

If you want to try authentic Mexican food, come to Jalapeno. The owner has his food prepared with specially grown chillies and vegetables You can also clearly taste it. The tequila selection is also very large and recommended. I was even allowed to take a few chillies with me to plant at home :D

The fajita steak costs 21 euros, the burrito steak also costs 21 euros, and a small beer costs 3.9 euros - so pretty expensive. Food was okay, nothing more, nothing less, quite salty, otherwise not very seasoned. The dips were very tasteless, and the burrito almost only had rice, which was okay... The shop is very nice though, the waiters were nice, maybe they were just having a bad day, but won't try it again.

It is one of the coziest restaurants in Bielefeld. Everything is beautifully decorated and lit with fairy lights. You feel like you're on vacation - also through the music. The staff is totally friendly and accommodating. The food tasted good and we didn't even finish the main courses, even though we are very good eaters...😉 The homemade lemonades are highly recommended.🍹😋

Both the staff and the food are completely convincing. The beautiful ambience that radiates a cozy warmth combined with the Mexican sounds in the background complete the overall picture. What struck me as particularly positive was that the waitresses were all very knowledgeable about the topic and were very good at advising guests who weren't very familiar with Mexican cuisine in all the details with their professional expertise and making good recommendations. We ate upstairs, the food was great! but what really made it was the home made hot sauces! Absolutely delicious. Really friendly staff and really nice how they had decorated the terrace, knowledge of the ingredients and a gorgeous vodka lime shot that arrived with the bill. Yum. Had a great time.
