Self-service and prices make it clear that you're paying for the view. So far so good. However, if you still have nothing to eat after 40 minutes of normal occupancy in the afternoon, that's stupid. It's even more stupid when you realize that guests who ordered after you are already eating. It becomes rude when you ask and the chef claims that you have the wrong number (and that it's the people at the checkout who are to blame) and that the food was already ready long ago. The highlight is when the cook grumbles that it's not his fault and rummages through the paperwork with the cashier to look for the error instead of correcting his own error as quickly as possible. As a customer, I don't care who is to blame. Service means that it is taken care of. Excuse me? No, they weren't available when we asked - they didn't get around to it. Apparently some people are still doing well despite the corona-related closure!

Beautiful view & dinner at a high level. Overall, a super chic restaurant. A place-to-be for that special occasion. The prices are correspondingly premium. When eating, the meat in particular was on point. For me, however, the “fireworks” was missing from the table. You definitely pay for the great view here ;) Otherwise service was super friendly and professional. It's best to reserve in advance.

Sensational location with great views over the lake & hills! However, we were only on the self-service terrace, so we can only rate cake and currywurst, the cake was mediocre. This could be much better... The terrace had very good seating and a unique view. Amazing!!

Were in the beer garden. View fantastic. Prices for a glass of wine and drinks are actually too high. Quite full and unfortunately it smelled a lot like old frying oil. I wouldn't expect it given the prices.

During our visit we were treated to bright sunshine and an impressive view of Lake Baldeney. The terrace of the hunting lodge provided us with a picturesque backdrop that made our experience even more unforgettable. We enjoyed real Ruhr area emotions and we enjoyed sitting on the terrace with an excellent coffee while sharing a delicious pretzel. The combination of excellent service, the relaxed atmosphere and the breathtaking views made our visit a highlight. It was the perfect place to escape the stress of everyday life and just enjoy the moment. The Schellenberg hunting lodge is definitely worth a visit and we are already looking forward to our next visit. A clear recommendation for everyone who appreciates good cuisine, excellent service and a fantastic view.

The view is incredibly beautiful. So far I've only been to the beer garden and Deep Schell. The atmosphere was great!

The view from the veranda is amazing. Need to book in advance. Complimentary bread and butter - very tasty. The choice of food is very small and very much for everyone - for such a price you expect very tasty food, but this did not happen. I recommend this place for light snacks and alcohol, to sit quietly, drink and enjoy the view, after eating at home :)

Simply outstanding location with fantastic views. Great restaurant (be sure to reserve here) and beer garden with a cozy chill out atmosphere. Just go there yourself, let yourself be surprised and experience it!

Great view, great ambience, delicious food, but also quite expensive!

This may seem like a fancy place to visit, but if there are any celebrations there, no matter what, you can hear the music terribly loud until sometimes 3:00 a.m. in the morning. NO GO If the wind is still unfavorable it is even louder, completely disturbing the peace. Added to this is the screaming of people. Absolutely disgusting. I'm just wondering if the operators have special permission from the city to be so loud until late at night. I don't want to live there or in the surrounding area. I feel very sorry for the residents who have to experience this quite often.

One of my favorite beer gardens in the Ruhr area

My statements refer to the beer garden. We love coming to the beer garden and enjoying the great view with a delicious drink. Today we ate something for a long time. Salad with shepherd's cheese and tarte flambée. The salad cost €10.50 and was more like a cheap pizzeria side salad. The bread that came with it was dry and tasted old and inedible. The tarte flambée didn't really taste good either and looked rather bland. Overall the food was a big disappointment!!! Price performance is not right at all. So for us it's definitely not a recommendable place to eat, but rather a place to enjoy the view in a nice atmosphere with a delicious drink.

Amazing view, very nicely located, there was live music and a super relaxed atmosphere. However, the food is mediocre compared to the ambience and the prices. The salad was already finished and not fresh as one might have expected. The fries and currywurst were ok. The aioli was way too mayonnaise-heavy. The drinks were good. Gin and tonic 10€ which is ok.

Nice restaurant. Top service, perfect food and breathtaking views. However, it is also very expensive. Still a very nice experience.

We were there as part of a closed party and EVERYTHING was right! The weather was perfect for eating outside, the staff was great (friendly and authentic) and the food was absolutely delicious.

Nice view but was close on Monday

Absolutely incompetent and unfriendly staff. You drive there specifically to pick up a voucher and are sent away again and referred to the next day because vouchers cannot be issued during ongoing operations. The next day, however, you should come again while operations are ongoing because it's not possible before then?!?! Absolutely ridiculous and customer unfriendly. I don't understand this kind of thing. I'd rather buy my voucher in a restaurant that doesn't treat its customers in such a condescending manner. You can't recommend a restaurant like this in good conscience.

Here's a suggestion for the restaurant: don't offer a 6 course menu with less than 90 minutes before your kitchen absolutely closes. As a matter of fact, a reasonable guideline for you menu would be if you kitchen closes precisely at 9pm: - only 4 or 5 courses after 7:30pm - only 4 courses after 7:45pm - only a la carte after 8pm I was recently visiting NRW from New York and went to the restaurant on recommendation from a friend to have an early celebration for my birthday. I was accompanied by said friend as well. We sat down by 7:30pm and were told "it would be a fast 6 courses if you chose that". I take responsibility for making a decision while hungry. Once orders were placed, the first course did not even arrive till about 8pm. And after that it was, indeed, course after course of not small, not light courses in quick succession. It felt like being rushed and force fed. On this I blame the restaurant for allowing this to even happen. In no way is that a nice experience. Indeed once 9pm came, the kitchen was well and truly closed. In other restaurants I've been to this is rather flexible when you have guests in the space. This experience, however, just feels poorly executed and plainly rigid and greedy. Of course I still paid for 6 courses I did not enjoy the experience of. Do you really want guests to leave with this bad of an experience when it is rather simple to guide us to something better? It's a shame because the setting is beautiful; primed for a great experience. On the contrary, it was some of the worst I've ever had! Contrast this with another 6 course meal I had at a restaurant in Frankfurt the night before I left Germany. The whole experience took nearly 4 hours and was very comfortable and leisurely. Highly enjoyable! 4 hours is perhaps not necessary, but coursing out 6 plates should take a while and the experience should be more pleasant. The experience at Jagdhaus Schellenberg was far from pleasant.

The two of us were there in the beer garden on a Saturday afternoon. There wasn't that much going on yet, so we quickly got our fancy drink and a coffee at the self-service area and were able to have a nice chat. The coffee was cheap. We had a nice seat with a view of Lake Baldeney. Very beautiful and very relaxing. We were very grateful for the umbrellas as it was a very sunny day. In conclusion I can say: Gladly again!

We celebrated our wedding at the Jagdhaus Schellenberg in May 2024 - and we are completely thrilled. The planning in advance was pleasant and uncomplicated, and questions were always answered quickly. Many thanks to Ms. Janke at this point! The location itself is simply beautiful with a wonderful view over Lake Baldeney. We were able to hold our free wedding ceremony on the terraces outside in wonderful weather. Food & drinks were delicious. Momo and the entire service team accompanied us at our celebration to our complete satisfaction. We can only warmly recommend the Jagdhaus Schellenberg to all other bridal couples!

Last night we went for a sundowner in the J.S. beer garden. I can absolutely recommend the location to drink a bottle of wine with friends. However, you should definitely not eat anything. I've never eaten such a bad tarte flambée. He never saw the taste of the grill. It was like biting into raw, ready-made puff pastry. No taste. That was an impertinence. Lazy. And if you consider that the tarte flambée we ordered was supposed to have a vegetarian topping... there were pepper snippets on it that I couldn't even recognize as such. The shepherd's salad tasted as if it had been sitting in a bowl since early in the morning. How can you represent something like that when you run a restaurant next door!? I would say that if you offer a choice of 3 dishes they have to be at least absolutely good. From now on, at most, one bottle of Pinot Gris.

In my opinion, the Schellenberg hunting lodge is one of the best addresses in the entire Ruhr area. Super nice restaurant, great beer garden, very attentive service and (most importantly) great food! The view is second to none. We have been there many times and will continue to be loyal regulars in the future.

Die Location und ihr Werdegang sind mir seit weit über 50 Jahren bekannt und vertraut. Rinderfilet war sehr ordentlich, Salate frisch und knackig, sehr dünne und knusprige Pommes Frites kamen in einem Metallkörbchen (einem Frittierkorb nachempfunden), waren aber diesem mit der Gabel nur mit Mühe zu entnehmen. Bärlauchsuppe hatte leider geschmacklich wenig (wahrscheinlich eingefroren) mit Bärlauch zu tun, die in der Suppe versteckte Jakobsmuschel eher eine Katastrophe. Am saisonalen Spargelgericht gab es nichts auszusetzen, Geflügel war tendenziell zu trocken. Auch beim Anrichten der Speisen gäbe es noch Luft nach oben. Der Rotwein hatte gefühlte 25 Grad und wurde von der Servicekraft nach dem Probieren heruntergekühlt. Dem eigenen kulinarischen Anspruch wird das Jagdhaus Schellenberg leider nicht so ganz gerecht. Wenngleich die Location traumhaft liegt, ist das Ambiente des Wintergartens doch eher dürftig: das Mobiliar hat deutliche Abnutzungserscheinungen, die Polster der Stühle teilweise Risse, Lautsprecherkabel samt Lüsterklemmen hängen wenig dekorativ von der Wand/Decke, die Lüftungsgitter am Boden scheinen durchaus mal einen Lappen zu benötigen. Mit mehr als zwei Leuten an den Vierertischen zu sitzen ist aufgrund der Stuhlbreite / Stuhllehne eine große Herausforderung, möchte man nicht das Tischbein zwischen seinen Beinen haben. (Ein Problem, das auch am Nachbartisch gut zu beobachten war) Der Service war durchaus freundlich - wenngleich eher im Ton kameradschaftlich. Offenbar konnten allerdings nicht alle Mitarbeiter das auf dem Teller positionierte Besteck richtig deuten… Also liebes Jagdhaus Schellenberg: nehmen Sie mir die Kritik nicht übel, aber Preis/Leistung sind aus meiner Sicht optimierbar. Dennoch bleibt die einstige „Schöne Aussicht“ immer in Zusammenhang mit der Essener Gastronomie erwähnenswert!

We visited the restaurant with a winter garden and outdoor terrace, and there is also a self-service beer garden. In the restaurant you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Ruhr Valley and Lake Baldeney from the window seats in the winter garden and from the seats on the terrace. The furnishings are stylish and successful. We had made a reservation for a small family celebration and were greeted politely and courteously. There is something for everyone on the menu. There is also an asparagus menu to match the season. Questions about the dishes were explained in detail or clarified by asking in the kitchen. Overall we felt very comfortable. The quality and preparation of the food was very good. The high prices are reasonable.

Impressive location with a sensational view over the Baldeneysee area. The beer garden season is about to start... Events such as weddings or the popular Deepschell Chillout Beats are popular. The menu is small but nice... Lovers of excellent wine pairings are also catered for here...

What a great place. All Seasons. There's something about enjoying the sunset here. We sat in the beer garden and watched the sun rise. Inside the restaurant everything was atmospherically set. Hot prices, hot food. Too bad, gladly the other way round.

Wir aßen old school a la carte. Vorspeise : Jakobsmuscheln, Hauptgang : Havelzander, Flower Sprouts, Sellerie-Kartoffel-Mousseline, Dessert : Kürbiskerncreme, Baumkuchen, Feigeneis, Feigen-Portwein-Gel, Williams Birne, Vanille-Crunch. Alles von bester Qualität und, was heute zur Rarität geworden ist, in erfreulichen Portionen. Das Dessert war für mich (meine Frau aß kein Dessert) das bisher beste, das ich gegessen habe. Vielen Dank auch für den netten aufmerksamen Service.
