We were there during the film festival, after the film, for lunch. What a pity with such a beautiful view from the terrace 🌞 The food was unfortunately not a hit 😁

Beautiful restaurant with friendly service and excellent food. Everything was top-notch!

Unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. The experience began with the waitress having a long, drawn-out conversation and not seeing me. I sat down at my parents' table, who had arrived a little early because we were seeing different films at the film festival. I ordered a burger and a Coke. We also ordered an espresso and a cappuccino. The burger arrived after 20 minutes. The drinks were missing. We told the waitress who brought the burger. She then sprinted over and after a while brought an espresso and a Coke. The cappuccino was still missing. We told her again, and it came quickly. The sweet potato fries were really crispy and hot, simply delicious. The burger was a disappointment. The bun was ice cold, like it had come straight from the fridge. I told the waitress she took it away. It came back very hot. The fries and the burger must have been in the microwave. The fries were no longer crispy. The bun was mediocre. The next server cleared away while I was still eating. On the upside, I got five ketchup spoons with my burger. All in all, I wouldn't come back.

We ate there during the weekday afternoon. We both had soup as a starter and a cordon bleu as a main course. Both were delicious! The service was friendly but not intrusive. The ambiance in the restaurant was very nice. Your terrace is also great in nice weather.

This place used to have 5 stars, but now it's ZERO. 7 years of experience: For years, she seems to have been unable to find staff, so often a single person has to serve 50 guests. Plus 2-3 helpers who can't/aren't allowed to do anything except carry glasses... So you wait forever for everything. Other places simply close, but here it seems never, no matter how few employees and how many customers, like recently at the film festival... It's always open, but everything suffers extremely, and the customer is out of luck... So the service has become an absolute disaster! And that's for 50 euros per person, which is easily what you pay there on average. Last time, we got: cold steak and generally bland food. One even went back because it was inedible... No thanks, never again! She used to save the super delicious food, but now it's also deteriorating drastically. It's completely out of keeping with the prices. We've been there countless times with dozens of other people, but no one wants to go back because everyone has had negative experiences over the years... What a shame!

The food (ribbon pasta with fresh chanterelle mushrooms) was good, but it would certainly have been even better with a little salt and pepper. The service was professional, but somehow genuine hospitality was missing. It was his job, after all.

We managed to get a table at short notice – it was a breeze. The staff was friendly and funny, and at our request because of the film festival, we were served particularly quickly. The food was delicious. The terrace with a view of the Rhine is also very nice. Highly recommended!

Unfortunately, we didn't enjoy it at all. The food was almost cold and, to us, tasted of basically nothing. I can't quite understand how anyone could do that to chanterelle mushrooms. The pancake was hard and also... tasted of nothing. The consistency of the sauce was also truly appalling and seemed very cheap. For this price, it was a complete disappointment, and I would advise everyone not to eat here! Unfortunately, we're used to bad food by now (even from delivery services), but I haven't eaten as bad as this in a very, very long time...

This week, three of us ate at the Bastei. The food was very good and served quite quickly. We had schnitzel with mashed potatoes and pancakes with chanterelle mushrooms. Both were delicious. The real downside, unfortunately, was the service. During the meal, there was a heated argument between a server and a guest who had to wait a very long time for his food. And after the meal, we sat with our empty plates and glasses for more than half an hour without anyone asking. When a colleague finally came by, she came chewing and with full cheeks. I understand that the employees also need to eat, but that's a no-go. At the same time, the restaurant was hardly busy, so there was no question of it being overcrowded. It's always a mystery to me how restaurants leave guests sitting with empty glasses without even asking. A waste of money, in my opinion. But whatever: The food and the ambiance were excellent, and we'll gladly go back.

Update August 13th: Very nice again today. Great location, excellent service, and very tasty. Very nice place, solid food, good value, top-notch service

We went to the Inselbastei for lunch today, for me the most beautiful place in Ludwigshafen's restaurant scene in a while. Today it was good. Unfortunately, we've had this experience in the past several times: top or flop, sometimes the service, sometimes the food. I hope it stabilizes a bit at a reasonable level. I don't want a fancy restaurant there that I can no longer afford. But I still want everything to be just right for me, and then nothing works the next time. Then I would go there more often. They also have a nice, tasty lunch menu. As a local, I wouldn't go during the film festival, but if you're coming from further away, I would plan on spending an hour or two on the terrace. It's simply fantastic if the service and food are good. But when it's normal business hours, it's a state of emergency at the film festival. Still, I'd put up with it for the view. Dogs are allowed, and there's water for them. Smoking is also permitted on the terrace. Wheelchair accessible.

Lousy food and poor service. A shame. The proprietor, K., is unable to deliver consistently good quality and service. We had the seasonal dishes with chanterelle mushrooms. The sauce was completely overseasoned and a mess of flour. Inedible. The accompanying pancake wasn't fresh (tough), the salad was soggy, and the dumplings were mass-produced. When we confronted the waitress about it, she became abusive (he hadn't cooked...). Conclusion: What's the use of a view of the Rhine when everything else is an annoyance?

We had such a wonderful evening yesterday that I'm taking this opportunity to write a review here. The food is truly outstanding; I had the vegetarian burger with sweet potato fries, and our friends' dishes also looked delicious, especially the cordon bleu. The portions are generous, and the food is beautifully presented. The staff is incredibly friendly and was happy to help us swap seats when it was raining outside, and later, when the sun came out again, we went back outside. The atmosphere there is very special. I enjoyed the view of the Rhine and the city park the entire time. We'll definitely be back.

Very good food, but avoid during the film festival; the Inselbastei has too few designated parking spaces. A €30 fine from the Ludwigshafen city administration arrived today. Easter 2023: Still a great meal! Tip: The menu needs to be updated urgently. It's getting really boring.

I recently ordered a large garden salad for EUR 15.90. The portion was so small that at first I thought I'd been served a side salad.

A beautiful view and enjoyed a delicious German meal

I would never go there again. Sounds harsh - but hear me out. For our starter, we ordered grilled pepperoni. It was served with hollandaise sauce. There was nothing about it on the menu, and no one even mentioned it. When I pointed it out to the waitress at the end, she just laughed. The bread was so dry, it looked like it had been sitting around for a while. The Mediterranean pasta was absolutely tasteless (seriously, NO FLAVOR), and the feta cheese was served with a sauce that tasted suspiciously like tomato/Bolognese sauce. In the end, they brought us the bill from the table next to us, and when we pointed it out to the waitress, she simply gave us the difference (the tip was kept without question!). All in all, unfortunately, not at all satisfactory and extremely overpriced.

We really enjoyed our meal. The location was beautiful, the food was delicious, and the portions were generous. We felt at home.

There were 10 of us there, and everyone was extremely satisfied. Many thanks to the friendly staff. We'll definitely be back.

The only positive thing: The waiters were friendly and attentive – the front-of-house staff can't be blamed for the poor quality of the food. The food is disastrous and completely overpriced. Two of the dishes were so bad (beef salad and meat dumpling) that we sent them back. Even the kitchen staff confirmed that they were inedible. The beef salad wasn't even served to guests for the rest of the day. The food we received as a replacement was absolutely lacking in love – run-of-the-mill cuisine with no taste, but at prices you'd expect from a good restaurant. The restaurant was bad years ago, and nothing seems to have changed. We were last there six years ago. For us, this was definitely our last visit. I can only advise everyone: Save your time, money, and disappointment.

Aside from the beautiful interior, the service is also top-notch! I'm not used to that anymore!

Eigentlich hat die Inselbastei alles was man braucht, um erfolgreich in einem solchen Restaurant wirtschaften zu können: tolle Lage direkt am Rhein mit großer Terrase mit Rheinblick. Innen diverse Räumlichkeiten, um auch Familien- und Firmenfeiern in abgeschlossener Athmossphäre durch führen zu können, sowie eine Stammmannschaft, die weiß wie Service geht. Leider steht dem Erfolg aber die größte Schwchstelle entgegen: die Küche! Unterdurchschnittliche ( oft Industrie- TK Ware basiert) Zubereitung und lieblose Präsentation können nicht überzeugen. Die diversen Gerichte sind selten Anlass zu Freude; man lernt sich das kleinste Übel zu wählen (man kommt gerne zurück aufgrund der tollen Location) Zur Not trinkt man nur etwas.- Schade, man könnte hier soviel mehr erreichen

I ordered a salad with chicken strips. It was just a lot of lettuce leaves with chicken strips. My colleague's side salad was better loaded than mine. So never again.

We were with friends on 20.06. Very good beef salad and the pepperoni are highly recommended. The service (Michele) was great. Thank you very much.

We were very satisfied! The food was exceptionally delicious, freshly prepared, and perfectly flavored. The beautiful view is particularly noteworthy! The service was also consistently friendly and attentive. We will be back.

If you don't know German, don't even come here. 06/19/2025, everyone is relaxing on a holiday, I went in to drink a cold beer🍺 and eat, and the barmaid (girl) who was behind the counter stupidly refused, there is no menu for the so-called restaurant, she doesn't understand English, she explained by her behavior that you are not welcome and will not be served. The owner of a catering establishment, so to speak, of Italian cuisine, if you are reading this, select adequate staff, Germany is a tourist area with many tourists from all over Europe, not everyone knows German, English is an international language and select adequate staff, clients come to you to relax and leave $, and your employees refuse to serve. It's a pity that the phone died, I would have filmed a report with a rude attitude, the advertising was very good.

This is a ferst German restaurant that i visited for my seven days of stay in Germany and it was perfect. Waiters in Germany are usualy cold but the ones in Insel Bastei were really kind and friendly and the service was fast and exacy. I tried all kinds of food of different nations during my seven days in Germany and since this was my last day in here for now this was the perfect ending of this vacation. I wish the very best to the owner and all the staff of the restaurant. I will see you again

I ordered a craft plate and was very surprised by the quantity. It can easily feed two people. The meat was on point and everything went well. The restaurant is nicely decorated and the service was very friendly. A little more seasoning on the plate and a little less vinegar on the salad would have been better for my taste, but luckily everyone's taste is different. Price performance is perfect. You have to go! And when you sit at the window and can look at the water... Very nice

We had reserved here for a birthday. After waiting for 30 minutes, the drinks were taken upon request. We also had to ask repeatedly to order food. The food was received unkindly. When something wasn't right, we spoke to the waitress. She ran away, gossiping about us, to continue making fun of us at the bar with her colleague. Food was cold and the quality was very poor. It's better not to talk about the waitresses there. The ambience is nice and it used to be much better.

As a vegan, definitely not. The burger was a disgrace. Just the Beyond Patty between the bun, no onions, sauce etc. Fries were super greasy. The ambience is quite nice with the Rhine in front of the door but that's about it. PS: the toilets were the absolute highlight... every train station toilet is probably cleaner

Last Sunday we spontaneously stopped by the island of Bastei to have lunch there. The restaurant was relatively busy and the staff was very busy, which is understandable. However, we were neither warmly welcomed nor served in a friendly manner. One of the employees definitely has a problem with friendliness. 20 minutes after ordering the drinks, nothing came and our food order wasn't taken either. You were literally ignored by the employees. Due to the long wait, we canceled everything, which is why I unfortunately can't rate the food itself. Unfortunately, service was poor, which is a shame given the location.

Very long waiting time, well over 1 hour Salads were missing. The children's schnitzel we ordered didn't come. Ordered rump steak medium, but it came as a shoe sole Service didn't come and asked if everything was OK. At the end there was another round of drinks.

I've been going here for years, today I had venison goullasch with spetzle, the goullash was a bit too fatty but otherwise very good.

Staff friendly overall. Food is served with too much salt. We paid €74 for cheese spaetzle, tagliatelle with salmon and a pizza with 5 drinks (non-alcoholic wheat beer, 2 apple spritzers, 2 coffees), so it's between medium and high price range. The ambience was good. Note: The door to the toilets should remain closed. Unfortunately there was a strong smell of drains in the entrance area. Children's chair available. Changing table available in the disabled toilet.

Wir waren mit einer Gruppe von 16 Personen im Restaurant, hat einen abgegrenzten Raum, der Service hat uns trotzdem nicht vergessen, obwohl das Restaurant gut besucht war, bekamen wir alle gleichzeitig nach akzaptabler Zeit und unser Essen. Die Portionen sind ausgesprochen groß, das Essen bodenständig und die Preise passen für dieses Angebot. Die Bewertungen hier sind zum Teil sehr kritisch, das können wir für unseren Abend nicht bestätigen.

Had lunch with my wife today. Ordered pepperoni with garlic sauce in advance and sauerbraten and schnitzel. From a cooking perspective it wasn't bad, but it could be improved. Salads were very sour, but completely fresh, garlic sauce for the peppers was unfortunately a bag and hardly any garlic. Schnitzel needed a bit more, fries were baked well. But we'll be back. The 2 waitresses were great.

Went there with our department for dinner together. What I kept positive was the location, which is really nice for Ludwigshafen standards. We were also able to sit comfortably, there was enough space. However, we were annoyed by the service. It was certainly noticeable that waiting tables can be a strenuous job in the truest sense of the word. Service was extremely slow and seemed overwhelmed. The food tasted suspiciously like a bag and was extremely salty. I wouldn't go there anymore.

We were also in this restaurant this week. Drinks came very very late. Food was ok. The lights kept going on and off. A restless evening for us. We hadn't seen each other for a long time and were looking forward to a nice evening. We were there a few years ago and really enjoyed it, but the last visit was difficult. Nevertheless, good luck.

A table was reserved. I arrived a little earlier than the rest of the family and asked for the table. A waitress asked me to follow her, then left me standing without saying anything and picked up the drinks at a large table. After a while I went back to the counter and asked for the table again. I was told very rudely that I should be patient. After a while I asked if I could sit on a bench in the entrance area. Without answer. I asked several times about the table and received unfriendly answers. When the rest of the family arrived five minutes later, my husband asked about the table. We were immediately shown to the table by the same woman who had left me standing. The order was then taken quickly, which was now overly friendly for my taste. The food, I had Pfälzer Sauerbraten, didn't come out really hot and was a bit tough. The salad that came with it only came upon request. Not a nice restaurant visit

Für Sonntag-Mittag hatten wir einen Tisch reservieren lassen. Ich kam früher als der Rest der Familie. Als ich an der Theke nach dem Tisch fragte, bat mich eine Kellnerin mitzukommen, ließ mich dann aber, ohne etwas zu sagen, stehen und nahm an einem großen Tisch die Getränke auf. Nach einer Weile ging ich zurück zur Theke und fragte erneut nach dem Tisch. Die Frau meinte unfreundlich zu mir, ich solle warten. Ich habe dann um Erlaubnis gefragt, mich auf eine Bank im Eingangsbereich zu setzen. Noch zwei Mal habe ich nach dem Tisch gefragt, ohne dass etwas passiert ist. Nach zehn Minuten kam der Rest der Familie. Mein Mann hat nach dem Tisch gefragt. Darauf hin sind wir sofort zum Tisch geführt worden. Nach den Bestellungen fragte die Kellnerin, die gleiche, die mich stehen gelassen hat, überfreundlich. Das Essen, ich hatte Pfälzer Sauerbraten, war nicht richtig heiß und ein bisschen zäh. Der Salat, der dazu gehörte, kam erst auf Nachfrage Das war kein schöner Restaurant-Besuch.

We had our Christmas party there with colleagues. The ambience is really nice. Not everyone was happy with the meal. Something got messed up in the kitchen. Various wines were out of stock and we were still charged for them. We only noticed that later. I believe that if you treat everything a little more attentively, the guest will be satisfied.

The food was satisfactory and there was a nice atmosphere on the Rhine. 5 stars for the service of the nice and young gentleman with the glasses.

Were there on Friday for the company Christmas party. It looked great when you just came through the entrance. Everything is so beautifully decorated for Christmas. We were about 19 people. And the food was there for all of us almost at the same time. We all enjoyed it very much too. Also great for the eye. The service was quick and cheerful, and always responded to our wishes. Thank you for the lovely evening.

Salad was ice cold and not very seasoned. The tomatoes in it are older. The schnitzel consisted of 2 large thin slices whose taste was somehow sour.

The atmosphere was very pleasant, the food was also very tasty. (I had a pistachio tiramisu). Service is also top.

I have to say a few words about this restaurant because I'm very angry. I won't even bother to make a big announcement after all the impudence and the whole disaster. What I can say is that everything is going haywire. You will be treated in this restaurant like air and the worst thing is you have to show understanding for the things that are messing everyone up there and accept everything and you can pay a lot of money for it as I said a few key points at the end very dirty food very very bad you had to wait several hours until something was done, be it waiting at dinner or to pay, you were always allowed to get your own cutlery, there was a tense atmosphere among each other, sorry for feeling good Atmosphere is rude at the wrong address, you had to beg for your side salad and the fun costs a lot of money. Conclusion: I have never experienced anything like this again

The restaurant is located directly on the Rhine. Food was very good. Can be recommended. In summer you can sit on the terrace. Very nice Were there again today. The time from ordering until the food was on the table was very, very long.

We reserved a table for a larger group over 2 months ago. Already when making the reservation, we said that we wanted to sit outside. This was promised to us. On the day of our reservation we were seated indoors despite the great weather. We had to ask several times to sit outside, which worked, then we waited a long time for the food and the service from the waiters was very unfriendly. A waiter was courteous. We also had to wait a long time for our bedside table. That was a shame because the birthday child was really looking forward to the party in the Bastei. Despite the very nice location and the home cooking with vegan options, we won't be coming back.

As always, TOP LOCATION with a dream view of the Rhine. Food, well... Although they have a good salad there. Main courses, especially fish, are not recommended. And the men in service had (hopefully) just a VERY bad day. And there's no film festival yet...

I’m a doctor. There is a waiter who’s like antisocial personality disorder! I was pissed off by his disgusting attitudes to customers! He looks around 55 and his skin looks a bit dark. There are several points to accuse him, especially after we finished the food, my friends went to the restroom, and I called him for the bill. My credit card is a “swipe” type, he said it may not work then. I told him to try, he swiped it, but not properly, even didn’t put the whole card in to the machine. I asked him to try again, he shouted to me, “you see! It doesn’t work! “His tone sounds like a grumpy gangster. My friends have not come back and I’m afraid he would beat me( he really looks like horrible), so I gave him the cash and he came back, threw the 2 coins loudly on the table! Is he a professional waiter? I really doubt. And I’m concerned about his mental status, I strongly suggest him go to the doctor to check if he’s antisocial personality disorder. I have been traveling to Germany for conferences for many times, most Germans are very kind and nice. He’s the exception, I think if he has no mental problems, then probably he’s a racist.

We called spontaneously and wanted to know whether there was still a table for two people and a small child outside. Her succinct answer was: “Certainly.” After a not very friendly greeting from this very gentleman, we were seated on the very beautiful terrace, essentially in the third row away from the really beautiful view of the Rhine. When we asked whether we could have one of the many free tables with a direct view of the Rhine, the unfriendly employee replied that “it would be full tonight and these tables were all reserved.” Mind you, it was around 16: 30, he could have offered us a time frame. We finished eating at around 5:45 p.m. and not a single table in the front row was occupied. To me this borders on impertinent and felt very uncomfortable for us. Nevertheless, the rest of the staff was very friendly and the food, we had schnitzel pepper cream, was excellent. I have rarely had such delicious fries and the salad was also wonderful.

This is my favorite summer terrace in the city😁 The view of the Rhine is beautiful. We ordered two salads - large portions, everything was delicious. When we had eaten almost everything, they brought us a basket of bread. Nice, sure, but why bread at the end of a meal?

We celebrated our summer party in the InselBastei with around 30 people. It was a successful evening. The process was perfect, everyone had very positive comments about the food and service. Great, therefore full marks in every category :-)

We went there spontaneously for dinner, without a reservation. We wanted to make a reservation by phone, but today (July 28th) it was only permanently occupied. So we spontaneously drove to the restaurant. Parking spaces are available in front of the restaurant, if everything is full there are plenty of parking spaces in the area. The food was very good, unfortunately our side salad was forgotten, but when we asked the waiter about it, he brought it straight away. Service friendly. A great atmosphere!

We went out to eat in the island of Bastei this week... I had a Viennese style schnitzel... €4 extra for the sauce which was a dollop. You probably just poured it over with a tablespoon and you're done! The schnitzel itself was as thin and tough as anything else... My salad was rotten... I think it's a cheek to charge €20 for something like that... Mine A colleague had tagliatelle in tomato sauce... a children's portion for 13€... The other colleagues' specialties were swimming in butter... All in all a disaster... For me, this place will never be considered again!

I was so frustrated, it was a long novel that I shortened like this: Were invited to a big birthday. The celebration, planned for Sunday lunchtime from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., in the hall. First there was sparkling wine and orange juice. 2 bottles each to pour yourself for 30 people, service only upon request and only briefly. The restaurant seemed shabby, the hall was so dirty that a small child's pants and hands were gray from under the table and he brought old, hard pasta that he had found with him. Then, around 1:15 p.m., drinks and a selection of food were taken, service was just barely friendly. Drinks came little by little. Starter, salad, after 30 minutes, then 3 speeches. Outside, the restaurant was getting full. Then wait. Children became restless. The first delegations went to the playground, which was visible from the terrace. Then wait again. The main course finally arrived around 3:45 p.m. Afterwards, coffee and cake were planned, which fell victim to the schedule. I don't know WHAT went wrong, the food was expertly cooked, the rump steaks were perfect. But the fish came cold and the potatoes were already gray from being kept warm for so long. A nice atmosphere. The food was delicious. However, the selection is limited.

Lage wunderbar! Essen gut, aber nichts Besonderes. Der Antipasti-Teller war definitiv keine gehobene mediterrane Küche, das Elsässer Cordon Bleu mit Bratkartoffeln war gut. Der Service war unterirdisch: Wir haben lange auf die Getränke gewartet, schließlich kam als erstes die Vorspeise, allerdings ohne Bestecke... Auf Nachfrage dann schließlich auch die Getränke. Auch auf die Rechnung mussten wir lange warten... und das, obwohl die Terrasse um 18 Uhr halb leer war. Schade.
