We've appreciated this Indian restaurant for many years: although we're not from Giessen and yes, we've at least tried other Indian restaurants – but, sorry for the competition – there's simply none as authentic, courteous, and especially delicious as this one. We thank you for last Saturday evening; the Orient Express long drink and the tandoori specialties were a real treat.

Eating there was a fantastic experience. Highly recommended for vegans!

We've tried many restaurants, but we can only say this time and time again: At India, the food simply tastes better; the service and the entire atmosphere are fantastic. The appetizers alone and the way the table is set (traditional bowls on hot plates, etc.) are truly stylish. In other Indian restaurants, you're often simply presented with a plate of food, and that's it. Here at India Restaurant, the chef and junior chef make you feel welcome in a little piece of India!

I visited the Indian Restaurant in Giessen and was absolutely thrilled! The butter chicken was incredibly creamy, perfectly seasoned, and simply delicious. The chicken tikka masala was also a real highlight—tender meat, wonderfully aromatic sauce, and just the right amount of spice. Delicious food, kind and attentive service, and pleasant atmosphere. Tandoori chicken and tandoori fish were perfectly done. Lamb dishes were fragrant. Channa dal was tasty, as was Palak paneer. Both rice, pudding and kulfi were good desserts, and the draft beer was refreshing.

Went to India yesterday on a recommendation. We came without a reservation. We were warmly welcomed and allowed to choose a table. The food was very, very tasty. Everything was explained at the table. The service was great and super friendly. The atmosphere is cozy. We'd love to come back.

We have been eating here again and again for 20 years. Sometimes as a couple or with several people. During the whole time we never had any reason to complain. Every single meal was always (!) fresh, delicious and we always came away full. The service was always top. When there is a lot going on, a freshly prepared meal can take a while. But the quality should be worth it. If you want something quick, you should go to the burger shop with bulk goods. We'll be back, thank you.

The vegetarian options were also varied and of the highest quality. The Dal Makhani, a lentil dish with a velvety texture, was one of the best I've ever tried. The side dishes such as freshly baked naan bread and aromatic basmati rice rounded off the menu perfectly. The spices were fresh and perfectly measured - not too strong, but still intense enough to bring the authentic taste of India to the plate. Conclusion: A lot of money for little food, a long waiting time and an unfriendly boss who cannot accept feedback. I wouldn't recommend. I was really disappointed with my visit to this restaurant. For 19 euros I got a tiny portion of just five or six pieces of chicken, swimming in way too much sauce. There was also a cola glass that was half filled with ice. The portions and the value for money are simply not appropriate. We had to wait about 50 minutes for our food - far too long for such a small portion! At the end, when the boss asked us our opinion, one person in our group answered honestly. Instead of accepting the feedback, the boss immediately became rude and said that he had been working there for ten years and would not accept such criticism. Why does he even ask if he doesn't want to hear criticism?

Our visit to this restaurant was not only disappointing but really made us angry. We came as a large group hoping for a nice evening - and left with frustration and anger. 1. Portion sizes: The main course was a complete disappointment. The portion of chicken consisted of perhaps 120 grams of meat “swimming” in a large amount of sauce. What was sold to us as a main course was little more than half a chicken breast. For the price we paid it was simply outrageous. 2. Side dish arrangement: Each of us ordered a side dish (rice or naan bread) as specified on the menu. But those who chose rice then had to share a small bowl of rice between several people! When we asked why that was the case, the waiter explained that we had to “eat everything” before we could get seconds. That really upset us. We ordered the food individually and expected that everyone would get their own. Instead, we were told to share first and to ask later if anything else was needed. This is disrespectful to the guests and was conveyed to us in a very condescending manner. 3. Waiting time: We were told that the food would be served in 15 minutes. In truth we had to wait almost 40 minutes with no apology or explanation. For a large group that had reserved in advance, this is simply unacceptable. 4. Disrespect of the owner and rudeness of the staff: The man who was presumably the owner asked us for our opinion. When we began to honestly describe our impressions to him, he didn't even let us finish and immediately felt attacked when we criticized the quality of the rice. He interrupted us and said he wouldn't accept any "insults" about his food. This response was completely unprofessional - why ask for feedback if you're not ready to hear it? We were looking forward to a nice evening based on the good reviews, but it was one of the worst restaurant experiences we've ever had. No one should be treated as disrespected as we were treated here. Anyone thinking about eating here should know that the service, especially the owner, is extremely rude and the staff shows no interest in treating guests with respect. We definitely won't be coming back and can only advise against it.

Bad experience for the price. I do not advise anyone to go. The food is a small quantity compared to the price. The behavior of the restaurant owners is very bad and unethical, especially with foreigners, not Germans. I do not advise anyone to go at all, even if Hank has positive comments, as the restaurant only interacts with positive comments.

We went there to eat dinner, we were a group of 6 people. I was really excited to try Indian food in giessen but unfortunately I was really disappointed and I wouldn’t repeat it. The food was very average and it’s really unpleasant to wait for 40 mins to eventually eat average food. I ordered butter chicken curry, the curry bowl had like 5-6 mini chicken cubes that barely made half of a chicken breast. 17€ is definitely a lot of mini chicken cubes in a small bowl of curry. I ended up eating rice for the most part. Besides the food, a waiter or the owner came to ask about our opinion as all restaurants usually do, a friend from our group shared his honest opinion about the rice and the instant reply from the man who asked was literally “I can’t accept your opinion, I work as a chef for 20 years” with no smile whatsoever. If restaurants owners want only guests that only give positive feedback to such questions then maybe they should only serve their family members or friends and stop opening restaurants for the public.

If you want to enjoy delicious food and have a good time together as a group, this is the wrong choice. Unfriendly service, paying around 20 euros for less than 100 g of chicken.

Every dish is bursting with Indian flavors, with spice levels which you can inform the staff and they will prepare accordingly. The staff is attentive and friendly, making us feel right at home. TERRIBLE! DON'T GO AND EAT HERE! Last night I went for a dinner in the India Restaurant. And let me start with the positive point; the people and owner are very kind, nice and helpful. The negative points; food is less than average as well as the portions. The atmosphere is really, really old and dusty. A renovation of the interior should have been done 20 years ago, but the most terrible thing is; we came in at 6.30 PM and at 8 PM we still didn't had any food so people started complaining. Owner started explaining that a family member of someone in the kitchen died that day, and so they were understaffed. But, although that could be the case, cooking some jasmin Rice doesn't take more than 10 minutes, and a Tikki Massala is definitely not freshly made. So either way, the kitchen is probably very badly organized, or there is another reason. And I believe it's related to the limited metal heating plates they put on the tables to 'warm' the bowls of food. I noticed that each time tables were getting served after a metal plate was available, and not sooner. If that is the case, it is ridicules! I have the feeling that they want to keep following that old traditional table setting, even if it takes 90 (!!) minutes to serve a very simple meal that I make at home freshly in 25 minutes. And, mine even taste much better so spare your money and have a dinner somewhere else because this is not worth it! COMMENT/REPLY TO REACTION OWNER: The Owner is apparently not open for any criticism, doesn't see the reality and also is extremely rude, just as I already had read in other comments and negative reviews. See attached the picture that I made of the bill from that evening, just so you know we were actually there and to debunk the comment from the owner. Looking at this review, this makes the whole experience even worse and I would definitely not recommend anyone to go and eat there, because it's terrible!

I really liked the atmosphere, it seemed super cozy and warm and the staff was also courteous. While eating, we ordered the Palak Paneer and the Chicken Tikka Masala. We felt it could have been a little saltier. But the mango lassi was very good.

I had high expectations for this Indian restaurant but was very disappointed. Unfortunately, the taste of the dishes was anything but convincing. All dishes had an intense milk taste, which was very unpleasant for me personally as I don't like milk at all. The garlic bread was also disappointing - it tasted like regular bread and the garlic flavor was not present at all. What was particularly disappointing was that for €18 I ordered a lamb dish that hardly contained any meat - just two small pieces. The price-performance ratio was absolutely not justified. Overall, it was one of the most disappointing restaurant visits I've ever had. Unfortunately not a recommendation for me.

Consistently good quality for 15 years. The level of spiciness is classified as North Indian (South Indian, on the other hand, is super-very hot) The staff is TOP and the boss himself is still there. We'd love to come back. The food is thoroughly recommended. Price-performance is right.

The two of us dined here on a Saturday evening. We came without a reservation and had free choice of seating. The atmosphere was very nice and we immediately felt at home. Relaxed music and a subtle, very pleasant scent of incense sticks underlined the beautiful atmosphere. Candles and a fresh selection of incredibly delicious sauces were prepared at the table. The service was super attentive and friendly throughout the evening and contributed to the excellent overall impression. The food was served quickly. A basket of naan bread was brought straight away, which was incredibly tasty in combination with the various sauces at the table. We had a mixed starter platter for 2 people, which could be put together as desired. Here too you can see how much passion is in every detail. Just wonderful. For the main course we had the butter chicken and a mixed platter of lamb and chicken. The food was served in beautiful bowls on a table grill that was placed in the middle of the table so that it was easy to share and taste the food together. Everything was really right here. We can only recommend it and look forward to the next culinary trip.
