Il'bay in Bochum

After a long day of shopping in Ruhr Park, we decided to eat at Ilbay, and it was definitely the right choice! Although we had read a few negative reviews beforehand, we wanted to see for ourselves and were absolutely pleasantly surprised. The food was truly delicious, freshly prepared, and tasted amazing. It was especially nice that our individual requests were catered to – something we don't take for granted. The service was super friendly and attentive; we felt completely at home. We'd love to come back and can definitely recommend Ilbay!

I agree with the widespread opinion that this is—at least from our perspective—not a place to recommend: You look for a place to sit. The table was dirty and not tidy. After you've done that, you have to go to the counter and place your order yourself. No waiter comes to the table to take your order. Then, when your order is ready, you have to go back to the counter (with a sort of alarm clock) and pick up the order yourself and bring it to your table. Not customer-oriented. In addition, the staff is very indifferent and occasionally unfriendly. There was also a hair in our food, which was unappetizing. All in all, this was our last visit because it wasn't appealing. Never again, sorry.

Ilbay in Ruhr Park was a real surprise for us! We weren't really expecting anything special, just a quick bite to eat and then move on, but instead we were pleasantly surprised. The ambiance is modern and cozy, making you feel right at home. The menu offers a nice selection, and what came to the table was truly impressive: fresh, aromatic, and lovingly prepared – exactly what you need after a long day. Particularly noteworthy: The service was attentive, friendly, and unobtrusive. You can tell the people working here enjoy their jobs. We had an all-round successful visit, and it won't be the last!

Great service, we go there at least twice a month. When we think of restaurants, we only think of Ilbay Döner. I can only recommend it. The food is also delicious 😋

The food was okay, but the service was terrible. They don't even ask what you want on it. The side dishes are just slapped on without any care. Apparently, the place is doing well, so the service is neglected.

Pure rip off! For €7.50 you expect a well-filled kebab bag and not a sandwich!!! Little meat, little salad. Never again!

UPDATE 3/12/2025 Cheap signs, in English, indicate self-service. No more skewers No charcoal grill Tables (except 1) --> empty (Otherwise you could hardly get a seat) Has been relegated to a pure kebab shop. Okay, then no more... It's a shame, the ambience and the wooden boards and the food were always great. Then somewhere else, CIAO Il'bay After a very long time, you can finally enjoy it carefree again. As always, a super delicious meal. I had veal skewer with fries. Splendid. The turkey skewer was also juicy and tasty. No loss of quality and service is of course again very important.

The restaurant urgently needs to be renovated. Now with self-service. The portions are decent, the food is very tasty. The prices are cheap for the location in the Ruhrpark.

I ate the worst Iskender Kebab of my life here today. For me, neither the Yaprak kebab meat, the bread nor the tomato sauce had the hint of "tasty". Only the yogurt was good. We both left almost all of our portions. And I think 2x 15 euros for delicious yoghurt is just too expensive.

Bad service. The food is of poor quality and is completely overpriced, nothing more needs to be said.

Very nice cashier kebab was very tasty! Turkish tea was also free. The lady with black hair was very child-friendly and always recommended to my children. We also really liked the self-service!

Friendly staff!! The self-service concept is great because you can pick up your finished food immediately and don't have to wait. Restaurant is clean and attractively decorated.

While passing through Bochum, I ate at their place. I had a kebab menu which was excellent. The prices are fair and the restaurant is very clean. Keep it up.

-First, please note that the restaurant is open until 8 p.m. and not 8.30 p.m.- I had a kebab plate with a 0.33l drink (as a menu). I enjoyed it very much. I'm happy with the price of €13 for it. You just have to pick up the meal and cutlery yourself.

I was there today after a long time. From what I can see it was a good improvement. The concept has changed and I think it's very good. You don't have to wait long to order. Order and collect directly. Self-service is a good idea. Schnitzel and nuggets are also on the menu. And there is a great salad dressing. The workers were also nice and friendly. We would also like to thank the long-haired gentleman who looked after us in a friendly manner and with a smile. I hope it continues like this :)

We ate at Il'bay very often. It was always very nice and tasty there. Apparently the owner has changed. Now there is no service anymore, the prices have risen and the taste has also deteriorated there. It felt like there wasn't a bit of sauce on the meat. Oh, and it wasn't crowded and the food was only lukewarm. Too bad!

No more service even though the prices have risen very high. Were there regularly. Not anymore. No service, long waiting time even though the store was empty. Then there was a musty smell at our place. Clean is no longer the case. Reducing portions and increasing prices is a no go for me. Especially since the meat was very dry, kebab meat was cold. The bread was cold and dried out. We were there last time.

The veal was so oversalted and therefore didn't taste good. The amount of salt raises questions.

Nicely decorated, large with some tables. The service was very friendly. The lentil soup was very tasty. If you don't like cumin, you won't like it. The flatbread is awesome. Unfortunately I didn't like the meat and sauce of the kebab. But that's purely a matter of taste.

I've never eaten such a bad kebab in my life, this veal meat has nothing to do with veal, it's 99% minced meat. Personally, I don't like the cocktail sauce either, the zazicki sauce was good, the chicken and lahmacun are quite ok.

Unfortunately, kebab bread wasn't crispy, far too little meat and vegetables for the price. Price-performance ratio weak, red cabbage not so fresh.

Unfortunately, the circumstances there are catastrophic, the way the boss treats the employees is catastrophic, the employees there are treated like animals, work until they drop, no free time and stress every day for little pay. The boss, who doesn't even know anything about this industry, thinks she knows everything better... I think you should take a closer look at everything and check it and I ask everyone who reads this message to report this shop to the authorities as a matter of urgency, simply as a cry for help for the employees who currently work there, because unfortunately they don't dare ‼️‼️‼️

Classic Turkish restaurant in fast food style. Average prices and good portion. ATTENTION cash payment only - no card payment

We had 2 dana (round) skewers and the meat was full of tendons. Hard to chew, really disgusting. Our feedback from the grill master only caused a shrug of the shoulders. No excuse, no replacement for the inedible food. The waiter was visibly sorry, the owner not at all. He's just out for his money. Nobody can get me in there anymore. We also had to have the table wiped twice until it was reasonably clean :((

Very tasty food at reasonable prices. The ambience, especially the floor, could be improved. Unfortunately there is only one toilet.

After today's visit I am extremely upset and will not be returning. I sat at the table and ordered a chef's salad without vinegar and oil instead with yogurt/tzatziki sauce and a portion of sheep's cheese. The waitress said no problem, there was a chicken skewer tzatziki and sheep's cheese anyway. I waited 20 minutes. All guests who came after me had their food first. Then finally a tiny salad arrived. (At €8.50 the price of a meat dish) The salad was completely covered in vinegar and oil. The chef showed me a bottle and said it was cranberry, yes cranberry vinegar.. There was no trace of sheep's cheese. The waitress said it was in there, we dug around together with my fork, there was nothing to see. The supposed chicken skewer turned out to be 10 crouton small cubes of chicken meat. Apparently there was no bread either. I paid and left the restaurant sorely burned. Actually, as a guest, all I want is for me to be listened to, promises to be fulfilled and the order to be carried out accordingly. And you don't have to discuss every detail. In any case, hospitality looks different.

We were in this store a few days ago. Firstly, the little lady with the tattoos completely ignores you. Then the tables are all dirty and seats are tight. When we politely asked the lady to wipe the table, the stupid comment was that we should look for another place. The cloth used to clean the tables looked very nasty, I don't think it will be replaced at all. The lady with the tattoos on her neck is absolutely unfriendly and aggressive. When we placed the order she freaked out and sent another male employee to take our order. The kebab bag is more with salad than with meat. The prices are excessive. Fries were ice cold. Never again and not recommended.

Stopped in on Saturday at 7:15 p.m Table was assigned in a table niche 04. Narrow seat. Steep backrest, close to the table: uncomfortable. The table was dirty, so we had to clean it first to keep our clothes clean. There is no non-alcoholic beer, only Vitamalz… Chicken was already out, only veal. The food was tasty but quite standard. During the meal the cash came at 7:43 p.m., but we could “eat up in peace”. The noise level was already quite high due to shouting and cleaning the kitchen. Unfortunately no card payment possible, only cash. Unfortunately no receipt, the billing handout was taken away again. Conclusion: still ok, not again

The biggest joke! From the service to the food it is a disaster. We called the waiter twice and had to justify why she had to run back and forth because of us twice. Food was served incorrectly and cold. Biggest fail the place!

I ordered a large kebab plate, and my wife ordered a small one, it's a total mess, the large one and the small donner plate have the same amount of meat, almost no meat, with the large one it is camouflaged by putting the meat over the fries so that it looks more. The food was very tasty and it came quickly. The waitress was super friendly and you had the feeling of being with friends. All very nice. The ambience is very nice, the benches are far too narrow and far too narrow for a meal with family. I have to say that the food wasn't to my taste. I hope the staff will try harder in the future.

Been inside once and will NEVER enter again. Very uncomfortable, loud and the door is always open. With the temperatures at the moment and no one who works there is intervening. The staff was very overwhelmed. We had to wait a long time for the food. Others who came and ordered 10 minutes after us had their food much earlier than we did. How is that possible...🤷🏼‍♂️ Very poorly organized. Oh yes, customer requests didn’t matter! We ordered one lahmacun without and one with onions. We said it several times and he seemed to have understood it. When it was finally brought he simply said that he had simply made both without onions... What a disgrace! My colleague didn't want to start a fuss about it. Luckily it wasn't my order... That statement alone😠 The food didn't taste good! The meat has no real taste, lukewarm and very little on it. I only tasted salad with my lahmacun. Very sad. Not recommended! With such poor quality and quantity of meat, the Lahmacun is definitely not worth €8, max. €4...!

Staff totally rude and irritable. The lady skillfully ignored the request for bread with our grill plates; only after we asked again was the bread brought to us by a gentleman. Food was okay. Ambiance due to the service but simply bad. We won't come here again.

Bedienung sehr unfreundlich es wird nicht nachgefragt ob alles in Ordnung ist oder ob man eventuell noch etwas trinken möchte. Das Fleisch war kalt, die Beilage war OK. Die Sanitär Anlage war für Damen und Herren und in klein sauberen Zustand dazu roch es sehr starkt. Wir werden dort nicht mehr speisen!!!!!

Es in der Weihnachtszeit 23, shoppen im Ruhrpark ist sehr cool macht aber auf hungrig. Bock auf Döner und Co., also rein in die Bude. Service zunächst recht freundlich und flott und auch flexibel bezüglich Änderungswünsche. Leider war der lahmcun kalt und der Döner auch nicht sehr cross, die netten Service people, konnte das suboptimale Ergebnis des Grill Meisterschaft nicht kompensieren. Adana geht anders.

Der Kalbsdöner schmeckt wie vor 25 Jahren der Döner. Angenehme Abwechslung. Die Saucen, Salat und Brot sind auch sehr gut. Guter Tipp wenn man gut im Ruhr Park essen will.

Mein Mann und ich hatten nachdem essen eine Lebensmittelvergiftung. Nie wieder!

Ich war gestern dort und wir haben vier Mahlzeiten bestellt, aber das Essen war wie das Essen von gestern, aufgewärmt, und obendrein war der Kellner nervös und respektlos und wollte nur obszöne Worte sagen.

So einen leckeren Döner habe ich in Bochum schon lange nicht mehr gegessen
