I really enjoyed the food, I ordered risotto. The food was very good, however the service wasn't the best and we felt a little strange in the way they spoke to and treated customers.

We had a wonderful evening with delicious food. We'd love to come back again.

Despite being fully booked, the staff were friendly and attentive, and the food was quick, very good, and prepared with care. We were completely satisfied during the trade fair chaos.

We went for dinner, and the waiter told us everything was booked, but they would accept walk-ins the next day. When we went for dinner the next day, they asked if we had a reservation, and we told them we hadn't, as we'd been told. They finally gave us a table, demanding we eat within an hour. The service was terrible. The food was average. The price was expensive for what we ate. I'm sure I won't be back.

This small Italian restaurant is located on Rüttenscheider Straße. I tried the shrimp grill for the first time and it tasted really good. Thank you for the friendly and quick service.

We visited the trattoria for the first time before a concert. The service was fast and professionally friendly. The lady took note of my comment about the rather firm penne ("al-Doppeldente") and told me when I paid that she had told the chef. That's it. Charging €8 for 0.15 of a mediocre Lugana in a rather simple restaurant seems rather reckless, but whatever. However, this is the first (!!) Italian restaurant to charge extra for Parmesan. €2.50. NO! I didn't order a second or third portion. The pasta comes without Parmesan. On the other hand, my husband's spaghetti aglio olio and my penne arrabiata were tasty.

Das Restaurant wurde von uns bereits mehrfach besucht. Immer sehr voll, Bedienung und Küche hinterlassen den Eindruck, stets an der Belastungsgrenze zu arbeiten. Entsprechen hektisch ist die Atmosphäre und es kommt zu Einschränkungen bei der Servicequalität trotz Freundlichkeit der einzelnen Mitarbeiter. Die Essensqualität war stets gut, die angebotenen offenen Weine sind auf einem erstaunlich hohen Niveau.

A small Italian restaurant in Essen-Rüttenscheid, with delicious food and good service. We sat in the beer garden, in the back of the restaurant. It was anything but cozy.

Unfortunately the food wasn't very good. You can tell straight away that it is “pre-cooked”. Therefore, no children's sizes are available. We found leftover foil in the lasagne. This then went back. But the staff was very friendly and accommodating.

Why do I keep going to Italian restaurants? Honestly? The good ones are uncomplicated and hospitable. While at the Japanese restaurant on Rüttenscheider Straße at 9 p.m. when you asked whether they still had a table available for four, you received a shrug of the shoulders and the comment that the sushi rice was out (only bought in normal household quantities?) and a smug dismissal at the Korean restaurant, at Il Pomodoro you were greeted with the comment that the table at the front was only reserved for us (weird, right?). The dishes are all very good and are prepared with attention to detail (even the very good home-made chili oil) and brought to the table with the usual Italian wit. What we ate? Very doughy, as a good friend from Essen would say (see pictures). Enjoy it and enjoy the top service. Grazie Mille Elvis

Il pomodoro, on the Rüttenscheider, is already traditional and well-known. The owners have now changed several times. We gave it a random visit and were surprised with good food and friendly service. Delicious pasta in a typical Italian environment. There is a special offer card on the wall for the menu. Seasonal dishes. Chilled drinks were prepared. There is warm, tasty bread before the food. Mediterranean olive oil A pesto ahead. Very friendly service. There is a surprisingly beautiful outdoor area. It can be eaten indoors and outdoors. 100% recommendation. There is no on-site parking space, which is common on the Rü. Parking on the side streets is recommended and table reservations are required almost everywhere today. We'd love to come back.

We discovered the shop a year ago and are now regulars! At il pomodoro you are greeted personally by the boss, apart from the friendly employees. Pizza and pasta are a 10/10, but vegetarians don't miss out here either. Every wish is catered for and every visit is an experience with a family flair. We are pleasantly surprised and look forward to a new visit every time. We now send friends and family there too :-)

One of our favorite restaurants in Essen. Familiar and authentic and above all delicious - especially the homemade tomato sauce! Favorite dish: Pasta with prawns/salmon in limoncello sauce. Never eaten like this anywhere else. Also the pizza 10/10 and a large selection of specialties on the daily menu. We are there at least once a month. Nice ambience and great service.

Service staff are rude and overwhelmed or play against each other, even when the store is not full. After 15 minutes of drying we left.

We went to the restaurant in the early evening without a reservation. Apparently everything except the winter garden was reserved but not yet occupied. Unfortunately, the employee's service was unfriendly, disrespectful and careless. Example: Do you have a heater for the winter garden? Yes, of course - but I won't do that. The fried chicken pieces were rubbery and tasteless, the salad was very simple, and the lasagne was lukewarm. Way too expensive for that! A thoroughly disappointing visit. Apparently making money clearly takes precedence over customer satisfaction… That used to be better...

Il Pomodoro is a well-attended restaurant in Rüttenscheid, especially on the weekends. Reservation is recommended. If you're lucky, you can also get a free spot during a spontaneous visit. During the week you are more likely to be lucky if you visit spontaneously and sometimes have a free choice of seats. We eat here occasionally. We are and have always been satisfied. The service is prompt and always friendly. The food is always well portioned and the prices are really reasonable. Whether pizza, whether pasta. There is something for every taste here. There are also regular variations of the dishes on the menu, which are written on the wall. Due to its location it is within walking distance for us. If you arrive by car, you'll need a little luck, as parking options on RÜ and the surrounding area are limited. The public transport connection is otherwise very good. Within walking distance to the Florastraße stop and/or Messe Essen/Ost.

The pizza was delicious! But we were even more pleased with the exceptionally friendly treatment of our Golden Retriever – she was warmly welcomed as a guest and lovingly cared for.

Cheeky prices We had to pay €2.50 for Parmesan cheese with our pasta and €3 for three pieces of bread. We won't be going here again.

If you come on Saturday evening, it's better to make a reservation, which we did in advance because it was well attended. The staff was very nice and attentive at all times, even after we had finished eating we continued to receive attention and drinks. The Kulinaris Card was gladly accepted. All dishes were delicious and beautifully presented. The quantity was also right. We would like to come back in the future at the normal price, because the price-performance ratio is right.

We spontaneously called today to reserve a table for two people plus a baby at short notice. We were immediately offered a table with a high chair that had already been prepared. The atmosphere was very nice and we were warmly served. We particularly enjoyed the food and we will definitely be back soon!

We went here for dinner and it was outstanding! The food was great. No matter whether pizza, pasta, starters or desserts. The service was great, great humor and there was a bonus on the house. For a dinner for four people, consisting of four starters, four main courses and three desserts with drinks, we paid just under €136, which I think is completely okay. We'd love to come back!

The food was absolutely outstanding. The service was really great, but the seating was anything but. You sat so close to strangers and had to listen to their conversations. Privacy is zero. Unfortunately, when I think of a cozy meal for two, I imagine something different. Despite the cramped seating, it was a really great meal.

We had dinner at Pomodore for the first time on Saturday. We reserved a table for 4 people online and also received a confirmation. When we arrived we were told the reservation had not been received and we should be patient for 10 minutes. They would do it. That's how it was, we got a table, great service. The food and the service were great. We can only recommend it and it certainly won't be the last time there...

Very very good and large pizza. There was even garlic and chilli oil. The service was a bit quick and cleared my plate even though my girlfriend was still eating. Nevertheless, we would like to come back and can recommend this restaurant.

Actually, the food isn't bad, but paying an extra €2.50 for two teaspoons of parmesan cheese isn't acceptable!

We were in the restaurant with 6 people. It was very crowded that evening and unfortunately it was hard to understand each other at the table if you were sitting at the front and not on the terrace. The food was really great! The pizza was large, very well topped and really tasty. Unfortunately the service at the checkout was rude and unprofessional. Since we didn't have a shared bill, we were all asked to go to the checkout individually (like in a snack bar). To do this we had to walk through half the restaurant, which was very narrow. Then you could only pay with card from 20€ (!!!!) (you should know). Since my bill was slightly lower, I had to pay with cash. The female service staff was always very brisk, unprofessional and, in my opinion, very unfriendly to me. She took my €20 note, put it aside and wanted to go to the next cash desk. So she had assumed on her own that the change was automatically a tip. Unfortunately, I don't think much of that (I'm happy to give something otherwise), but I insisted on my change. The lady probably didn't like that and got in a bad mood. Then there was another incident with the service person. Beforehand, I had shown her exactly (on the PC) what me and my husband had ordered. The bill seemed a little small to me and I pointed it out to her. She bluntly told me that this would be right. In the end it turned out that a pizza was missing from my bill. She claimed I forgot to mention them. I found it very rude and unprofessional. I would come back for the quality of the food, but unfortunately not for the service. Rarely have I experienced something so unprofessional!

The very friendly service couldn't save the overall impression. It's relatively cramped and noisy, the food was generously portioned, but of average quality at best. The top layer of the pasta al forno, for example, was quite hard and dry, and underneath it simply lacked flavor.

Lovely Italian restaurant. They had Pfipferlingen (seasonal mushrooms from Schwarz Wald) and they were great.

Entsprechend der Vorgaben aus dem Schlemmerblock hatten wir den Tisch vorab telefonisch reserviert. Nachdem klar war, dass wir mit dem Schlemmerblock essen würden, wurde dargelegt, das mit Bargeld zu zahlen sei. Die Pizzen waren super lecker. So weit so gut. Jedoch mussten wir beim zahlen feststellen, dass nicht die Kreditkartengebühr gespart werden sollte, sondern unser ganzer Verzehr nicht durch die Kasse ging und wir ohne Beleg abgerechnet wurden. Auf Nachfrage, wie sich die Summe zusammensetzt, wurden wir nur erstaunt angesehen. Dann doch zukünftig lieber bei steuerehrlichen Restaurants einkehren.

Wir haben ein Nudelgericht gegessen das war soweit geschmacklich gut. Die Krönung war allerdings, dass der Parmesan Köse ( zwei kleine Löffelchen ) extra mit 2,50 € berechnet wurde! Absolute Frechheit! Bei sämtlichen Italienern die wir kennen wurde noch nie der Parmesan Käse extra berechnet!

Wir waren im Rahmen des GKT 2024 dort . Wir hatten einen Tisch reserviert und haben dann im „Wintergarten „ schön gemütlich gesessen . Wir hatten Salat mit Lachs , Pizza mit Parma Schinken und Ruccola und Tagliatelle mit Lachs . Espresso war Mega lecker ! Sehr zu empfehlen! Service war schnell und sehr nett

We spontaneously went to this restaurant on a weeknight evening. It was very well attended. We were warmly welcomed and were allowed to choose from the seats that were still available. We were served by two female staff and the owner. All three were very friendly, attentive and always concerned about our well-being. In addition to the drinks, we ordered various main dishes (meat, pasta, pizza) and desserts for 4 people and everything was perfect! If we didn't live so far away, we would definitely be regular guests here. So all we have left is the recommendation. And if we ever come to Essen again, we'll definitely go to Il Pomodoro! 5+ stars

I really liked the restaurant! The portions were large and tasty. I really liked the quality of the cheese. I recommend visiting this restaurant. One comment - the waitress didn't thank us for the tip, which spoiled the impression a little.

VERY loud ambience, new "roofing" rather negative in our eyes, pasta that was MUCH too hard cooked was still more than al dente even after a complaint, after another complaint 1 beer (!) was given as a discount... We won't be going there anymore

I was a guest here at Il Pomodoro with a colleague in mid-June. We sat outside and weren't immediately noticed at first, but that can be excused by the number of guests inside the restaurant. Once we were “in the flow” everything went great. The service was always nice, friendly, people laughed and joked. The food was absolutely “dream”. I wanted to order the carbonara and was immediately made aware that they not only offered the version on the normal menu, but also had a second one, with less cream and a different bacon. In short, the dish was so incredibly delicious that it was worth coming back for that alone. My colleague was also more than satisfied with his meal. Clear recommendation to go!

Great little Italian. The selection is very good and diverse. The food arrived quickly and was beautifully presented on large plates. We had Gnocchi Sorrentina and Saltimbocca, both were very tasty and the portions were large. The staff was really nice and you felt comfortable. We will definitely come back again.

ENTTÄUSCHEND!! Das Nudelgericht (Spaghetti Alio e olio mit Gambas ) eigentlich ein Basic der italienischen Küche war geschmacklich lasch und nichtssagend. Kam nach Reklamation dann etwas besser aus der Küche. Allerdings was überhaupt nicht geht ist für etwas Parmesan 4,50€ in Rechnung zu stellen. Der Service war auch nicht aufmerksam. Dies war definitiv unser letzter Besuch dort… Da gibt es wirklich bessere Italiener in Essen!

Superficial and relatively unfriendly, not very flexible. Many tables were free but in order to have some peace and quiet, despite the low frequency, no table was offered that would have been more comfortable. Statement: they don't want to have to implement us. The dishes on offer are no more than mediocre. The apparent owner quite rude. Not an option when visiting Essen again.
