We received a warm welcome on the upper terrace. Since I mentioned when reserving the table that we were celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary, the table was beautifully set. Thank you so much for that! Everyone was very attentive and very friendly. In addition to the dishes on the menu, there were also specials. The cuttlefish and the fish platter were exceptionally good. The pizzas also looked very good. The prices upstairs on the terrace and in the restaurant are a bit higher, but are reasonable given the ambiance, cleanliness, and service. If you want to be full, you should order an appetizer and dessert. Down by the water, it's more rustic and the prices are a bit cheaper. There's also a beer garden there, corresponding to the food and drinks. We really enjoyed it and can recommend the restaurant, especially for special occasions.

Although we're from Castrop ourselves and have lived there for over 40 years, this was our first time eating here. The quality of the food was absolutely top-notch. One small deduction is that there were no small portions at all; for a four-year-old daughter, both the main course and the dessert were oversized. Even upon request, it wasn't possible to get half a plate of lasagna or something similar in a slimmed-down version. Otherwise, the price matches the quality of the food, although the portions are, as has apparently become established in fine dining over the past few years, on the level of appetizers. If you're really hungry when you come here, you should stick to Italian and order both the primo and sekundo (and then definitely budget €40 extra per person).

We only had fries and a beer while passing through on our bike tour from Oberhausen to Dortmund. So, we can't really comment on the quality of the food. The service, however, was very friendly.

We were there with a group of 10 people. Our first time. The staff was very attentive at first. We ordered drinks first. After about 20 minutes, we ordered the main course and received a welcome from the kitchen: bread (a bit too crispy, dry) and three scoops of cream made with an ice cream scoop with plenty of garlic (not my thing at all) for 10 people, plus two small plates of sun-dried tomatoes, olives, and peppers. Then the drinks finally arrived (it was very warm that day, and the drinks delivery seemed quite slow). The main course arrived after 30 minutes. Very manageable portions. I had a handful of salad, beautifully arranged with honey mustard sauce and four or five thinly sliced ​​duck breast slices. (18.90) Chilled water (0.75 ml from the tap) and an espresso. I was able to order the espresso by waving to the waiter. The answer I got was that he'd first collect the plates, etc., and then he could take an order for the entire table. Unfortunately, my espresso was lukewarm. After that, no one asked if anything was missing or if anyone wanted to reorder. As I mentioned, it was very hot. We had the feeling of "no longer being seen." My table neighbor had a pizza. She said it had a very hard crust and cut it off. She could barely cut the rest and said it was like a paper plate. When I asked the entire table how it tasted, she said it didn't taste good, but this was ignored. We paid individually, and when I asked for a receipt, I was told, yes, yes, she would go inside and get the others anyway. I won't be going there again. Too bad

Beautiful beer garden right on the “dead arm” of the canal. Unfortunately, the price of the food is far too high for self-service. Ready-made schnitzel paper-thin with thick breading, salad with 2 tomato slices and 4 cucumber slices, 1 piece of dry bread with tuna 16 € ..... that's not possible!!!

Bad in all respects! We reserved a table in advance by phone for 6:30 p.m. for May 11, 2025 (Mother's Day). Unfortunately, we were not told on the phone that there was only one menu card available that day. Cheapest dish 35€, most expensive dish 45€. But it's absolutely not a problem, because good food often has its price. Unfortunately, when we wanted to order, it was only after we had chosen what we wanted to eat that we were informed that various dishes were no longer available. When we kindly asked how it could be that various dishes were no longer available at this time, the waiter simply replied, "If you come so late, you'll just have to eat the leftovers that are still there." It gave everyone involved the feeling that you could be as happy as a dog that you could still eat the leftovers. The starter tasted good. The main course tasted ok too, but the portions were subpar. The fish plate for €45 wasn't even remotely sufficient and the fish was unfortunately of very poor quality. I personally had the rump steak with rosemary potatoes. Unfortunately, you can't speak of rosemary potatoes, as there were only 3 of them. But good, because you weren't even remotely full from the main course, you could at least look forward to dessert. At the beginning where we had to choose the dessert, you could choose between teramisu + panna cotta or mixed ice cream. Sadly, shortly before dessert was due to arrive, we were informed that the teramisu was already out and that you could have a cherry cake as a replacement. When one of us at the table said that he didn't like cherry cake, unfortunately instead of a small apology that perhaps something had been calculated incorrectly, there was only a "that's just the way it is, you have to choose something from the waiter." Next disappointment. Unfortunately, the taste of the panna cotta was rather disappointing and I don't even want to start talking about the 30 cent langnese mass-produced ice cream. Unfortunately, at the end we weren't asked whether we liked the food and we were happy with everything; We thought we would take the scepter into our own hands and say that we were not satisfied with today's service. We don't want to be people who just write any review without personally telling the restaurant what could be improved. So when we said that unfortunately something went wrong with the meal today, we were simply told “no, everything was great.” All in all, we paid €250 for 5 people for poor service, not particularly good food and a restaurant that was absolutely unsuitable for criticism. Since it was also my first visit to the restaurant, I can say with great certainty that it was my last visit there after being treated like that. Very, very unfortunate

The two of us ate there. We sat on the terrace. The reception was very friendly and nice. Our food was very tasty. I had a fish plate. This one was perfect. The fish was perfect... juicy on the outside and inside. The service was more than good and above all attentive. There are enough parking spaces in front of the restaurant. A perfect place to go, even by bike. We'll be back.

I can only say something about the outdoor area and the beer garden and snack bar because I haven't eaten inside yet. It's a lovely place to sit on an old canal arm and I can spend lovely hours in great weather. It's particularly suitable as a break on a cycle tour because there are many beautiful cycle tours leading along here.

A little escape from everyday life. I always like it here, the food is a poem and the ambience is like being on holiday. Wellness for stomach and soul. I am very enthusiastic about this restaurant.

It's about a company Christmas party. The food was good, the organization was not. Reservation was not fully noted, so seats in the winter garden instead of inside as ordered. As a result, warm heating above, very cold feet below. At the company year speech, the soup came and for several minutes the speech was repeatedly interrupted instead of waiting (as requested by the first waiter with soup). The antipasti, which like all dishes was ordered in advance and was supposed to come between the soup and the main course, was completely forgotten. The manager apologized, but some unfriendly trivialities came from the rest of the staff. Sometimes you had to wait a long time to get an opportunity to order drinks.

We had our Christmas party here. I couldn't find the entrance to the restaurant straight away in the dark; it's over a very narrow, bumpy path, at the end of which there are plenty of parking spaces. Access to the restaurant is via a steel staircase, and once you reach the top there is a large terrace where you can definitely sit outside in the summer. The restaurant itself is large and the decor is okay. A 5 course menu was pre-ordered. First there was an antipasti platter with eggplant, zucchini, tomatoes, peppers, mozzarella and vitello tonnato. The second course was 2 different types of pasta, one with chicken. The third course consisted of grilled salmon and zander with spinach. The 4th course (main course) consisted of grilled beef, pork and turkey with potatoes and various vegetables. The crowning conclusion is the 5th course (dessert) with a panna cotta and a tiramisu. I can't even say what I liked best because I just found everything sensational and super tasty. The service was also very good, the different courses were timed very well. It was definitely not my last visit here. Our Christmas party took place here again this year. The food was again very good. This time a vegetarian was there. They asked beforehand whether anyone was vegetarian and their 5-course menu was adjusted accordingly. 👍

The idiots at the Castrop public utility company have it invited to the 10th anniversary. As is usual for Castrop-Rauxel, no religion, allergies or ethical issues were taken into account when ordering the food. In 2023 we spontaneously decided that a wedding in a restaurant was the perfect idea. With a waterfront spot and a breezy atmosphere, it was simply irresistible. We had no idea how to plan a wedding, but the owner was our savior in a pinch. The result? A 5-course meal that satisfied even the hungriest of guests - and there was even an encore for those who wanted it! But that wasn't all - the owner also provided a little dinner entertainment. The service was unobtrusive, but always there when you wanted to order something. In short: El Gambero not only won our wedding, but also our hearts. Try it out and experience the magic of this place for yourself!
