Hyaku Mizu - Asian Restaurant in Magdeburg

Good Asian cuisine in the center of Magdeburg... We had made a reservation as usual and were seated at a table in the second room of the air-conditioned restaurant. Despite the summer temperatures and the availability of outdoor seating, it wasn't a tragedy, as an outdoor table can be a bad experience thanks to the still numerous friendly smokers. The service was professional without being overly cordial. The food was truly delicious, from the appetizer to the main course... but nothing exceptional. In conclusion: a good place for Asian cuisine

This is a true hidden gem. Good atmosphere, friendly service, and exceptionally good food. The thai curry is one of the best I ever got. The motchis were superb. Care was taken for all details.

I was very surprised. The last time I reviewed Mizu was six years ago, and there was nothing comparable. Today, however, I noticed that the staff's attention is simply fake, asking if everything is okay and not noticing the empty plates that haven't been cleared even after 10 minutes and three attempts. The portion sizes have also decreased.

The sushi was absolutely top-notch. You can immediately taste that only high-quality ingredients are used here. Everything is perfectly balanced. The rice is just right, the fish incredibly fresh. The chefs understand their craft down to the last detail and are true masters of their trade. The service was also excellent: friendly, attentive, and pleasantly unobtrusive. In addition to the sushi, there are many other great dishes that are just as impressive. If you love high-quality food, this is the place for you.

I tried sushi for the time in my life and I must say, that was amazing. Also, I ate halibut with asian style vegetables which was perfectly fried and spiced. Drinks were also on top notch, very nice...

We were there yesterday. The food and drinks were excellent. The tuna bowl was a bit small - more rice doesn't really cost anything 😉 Unfortunately, the waitress was obviously not having the best day and just slammed the plate in my face without warning. Oh well, I just have bad days sometimes.

The drinks and food tasted too ordinary for the prices—I didn't find it particularly special. The constant questions about whether we wanted anything else (even though our glasses were still half full) were rather annoying and intrusive. For me, it's not worth another visit.

The portions are more filling than we expected and taste good. Tip for summer: be sure to order a glass of ice cubes with your drinks.

We had the sushi rolls, halibut with veggies and udon noodles, tuna teriaki, lava cake and fresh mint tea. It was fresh, tasty and beautifully presented. The service was attentive, dishes came quickly. Efficient staff. We liked it so much we returned the next day for lunch. Equally good again.

The food at Toto was excellent. We've been to Asia many times and know what it can taste like. The sizzling food that's thrown together in some Asian restaurants is a disgrace. Here, the complete opposite. Good ingredients, perfectly prepared, and attentive, friendly service – first-class!

We were visiting Magdeburg and came across this restaurant by chance on the recommendation of two women who have lived here for ages. The food was really incredibly tasty! Creative open kitchen, everything fresh, super clean, top service. We then ate here on two days. At lunchtime everything is a little cheaper than in the evening, but the prices in the evening are rather high. But it's really worth it! Homemade udon noodles, brilliant desserts (pleasant to the eye!). The fact that the restaurant is located in the Hundertwasserhaus is also something very special. Everything is incredibly beautifully designed, including the inside of the restaurant.

Hyaku Mizu is highly recommended. Online reservation went smoothly (limited to a 2-hour stay). Price performance is fair, the duck breast tastes much better than at the standard Chinese/Vietnam snack bar, but a little more expensive. Portions are large enough to fill you up.

My favorite restaurant! Every year we celebrate New Year's Eve here and everything is always perfect. Thank you for the great service and delicious food.

Nice food but nothing shocking tbh. A bit disappointing that the same food costs on weekends almost double and not so much choices on weekends like on lunch menu. A bit too pricey for the quality.

When I'm in my hometown once a year, I eat at least twice in this wonderful restaurant. Once with mom and once with my girlfriend. The visit to Magdeburg has been even more worthwhile for me since the restaurant opened. The Mizu is a must and if you don't go, you're definitely missing out. Das Hyaku Mizu in Magdeburg habe ich bereits mehrmals besucht. Die hier angebotene, japanische Küche (Sushi) ist TOP! Zutaten, insbesondere der Fisch, ist super frisch. Die Gerichte werden zudem sehr ansprechend angerichtet = das Auge isst mit. Das Personal ist stets freundlich und motiviert. Absolut empfehlenswert!

Now I'm just getting to the comment. The ambiance is simply top-notch!!! Asian elegance. The food is of the highest quality. A very large selection of dishes. Something for everyone. The food is also very delicious. I fondly remember the taste. But sometimes less is more (I'm just talking about the decoration of the food or the presentation of the sushi). Otherwise, I highly recommend the restaurant. It's not like any other Japanese-Vietnamese restaurant you're used to, where you always get the same cookie-cutter concept everywhere. This restaurant is even better!

From the reservation to the payment, everything went great. Food was delicious and light cuisine. Something different to the traditional restaurants.

The restaurant offers a nice ambience and comfortable seats. The service is fine - not outstanding or noticeably attentive. For starters we ordered wasabi scallops, miso soup and tuna tataki. Based on the reviews and the high prices, we had high expectations, which were unfortunately disappointed. The mussels were passable, but nothing more: they lacked flavor and salt. The miso soup was reminiscent of harbor water. The tuna was cut too thick, very cold and also quite bland. The main course was three types of nigiri (salmon, tuna, amberjack) and an entrecôte with green asparagus, tempura sweet potato and teriyaki and (at your own request) peanut sauce. The fish tasted and smelled fishy (sounds strange, but fish shouldn't). The meat was tender, but again lacked flavor and that certain something. The asparagus was limp and the breading on the sweet potato was bland again. The whole dish was carelessly prepared. All in all, we were pretty disappointed with the steep prices, which didn't justify the slightly below average food.

The decor is very stylish and chic. The service was great and the waiters were very attentive. The food is a mix of modern Vietnamese and Japanese cuisine, which didn't really impress us. We both had the duck, which was dry and the skin was very tough. Maybe the kitchen had had a bad day.

This restaurant only survives because of its location in the Hundertwasser House. Menu as thick as a book. Waitress constantly pushes you to order. Logically, the next guests are already waiting. Tables and ambience far too narrow. I could have eaten straight from the plate at the next table. Cold or warm main course...you don't know. There was no help from the waitress... or not visible on the menu.

The food is great. The ambience is very well done. However, the service was not very great. The starters didn't come at the same time. The main courses went reasonably well. The waitress wasn't friendly enough either. It could also be because she was in training. There were 7 of us, so there was a larger table in the back. I can still recommend it, but our experience was not 100% satisfactory.

We happened to go to this restaurant in Magdeburg and it left a clean and stylish impression. The open kitchen seemed hygienic and well organized. The staff was friendly and attentive, and service was quick. The miso soup was very tasty and met our expectations. Although we didn't get a chance to try the main courses, overall our experience was positive. Therefore, I would definitely consider this restaurant for another visit.

Absolutely awful and disgusting experience. I last visited this town in 1989 - nothing has changed. We were met by a snippy guy, full of himself who probably thought he was being funny - he wasn’t, he was just stupid and beyond inappropriate. We should have turned around and walked away. The place is ok, ambience wise - it was super icy and both doors (he insisted) were kept wide open (what for you’ll never know), so one sat in the iciest of winds … menu is extensive, food reached and was alright - until I found a giant, long, thick, Asian, black hair in mine … I alerted same guy (I stayed beyond calm what my family took with surprise …), who wordlessly removed my plate. So far so good. I was beyond DISGUSTED. No word of an apology, zilch. Nothing. Zero!!! We were 3 people and all said the same. Upon asking for the bill, same man reappears and starts LECTURING ME!!!!!! … me!!!!! that no one in his kitchen had long black hair!!! Ha!! My father has almost no hair/white, my mother and I long blonde hair … say what??? I asked “you suggest I put this in there???” … everyone Chinese, Japanese, Asian in his open kitchen, waiters … words??? LECTURING ME!!! Until I had it! This is a commercial eatery. Unacceptable. Cannot happen!! Cannot!!! “We are humans” - you are???? Really???? You are supposed to be sorry and SHUT UP after something of the likes, if that happens!!! Because I am not interested in the least how you (do not) manage your kitchen/hygiene concept etc.!!! And you do not debate and argue with a paying client that is pissed off beyond! The guy belongs fired not into hospitality and I am in two minds alerting the authorities after this, if not at least the owner - I would have been the last one making such a drama out of this if only a decent server would have been encountered that was genuinely sorry and not a “KLUGSCHEISSER” of the first order who then proceeds to tell ME “he doesn t have to take all this” Really? He can be happy the plate had disappeared because otherwise it would have happily landed in his face. DISGUSTING. AVOID!!! if you do have some standards and respect for yourself.

Wooow! Finally a real sashimi AND a Wagyu menu! I had it on our first visit on January 3rd. said: THIS will be my regular restaurant! ❤️ Open kitchen, great ambience, loving staff and above all: authentic and delicious food. :) That was definitely worth the €50 tip for me, I'm more than satisfied! In his rush, our waiter didn't see the amount of the tip, but he was definitely happy at home and that makes me happy. 😀 See you soon!

The only point of criticism is the price, which is significantly higher than comparable restaurants. Nevertheless, there was also special quality here, so that's fine.

The only thing that's a shame is that not a single Japanese person works there... But!!!! All service staff know about the goods they offer customers and can answer questions about individual dishes and drinks at any time. We were there for the first time yesterday and were absolutely thrilled. This even meant that we didn't even think about taking photos. We simply enjoyed the time. The ambience and furnishings have a very relaxing and valuable effect on the guest. No restless breaks in style or anything like that. Despite the good attendance, it was also very pleasant acoustically. Reservation of the table via the online system is also well thought out and easy. Very good: you get reminders about the booking via email. Now about the evening itself: the staff are fantastic. Super friendly and the timing during the meal was spot on. At no time do you have the feeling that it is either taking too long or that it is hectic. Fabulous. And the food is fabulous too. Everything is super fresh and wonderfully prepared. The dishes are so deliciously put together and seasoned that there are actually no negative comments to be found. What we had? Appetizer: Summer rolls with chicken or duck Main course: Poultry PEPPER TERIYAKI STYLE and Poultry THAI CURRY STYLE Dessert: SWEET WILD RICE and CARAMEL PINEAPPLE And the best thing: the bill isn't a shock either :-) Absolute recommendation!!! ... and we'll definitely be back!

Very nice location. Service was very nice, a bit too overzealous so you quickly became a bit stressed about whether you should clear the chair quickly. Unfortunately, my bowl with chicken was totally cold.

Very tasty and fresh food in a pleasant atmosphere. Not the usual Chinese, but very upscale. Unique downside, it's too loud for an intimate or relaxed conversation.

The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere. Everything seems very modern and cozy. The waitress took our orders quickly and the food didn't take long to arrive. We had a starter for two, which did not disappoint. So for the main course we had duck teriyaki. The dish tasted very good, but there were a lot of peppercorns in the sauce, so you had to be careful when eating or eat a peppercorn regularly. So the dining experience was really negatively affected. Otherwise, it was a very nice evening and perhaps another solution for the peppercorns can be found in the future.

Everything about this restaurant is great. We spontaneously made a reservation on a public holiday. Everything went online without any problems. The quality of the food is very good. The service was courteous and, above all, quick. The seat opposite the show kitchen was also interesting. In terms of price, it is of course in the upper third, but in our opinion it is worth it. We can really only recommend this restaurant. It's worth it for all fans of more sophisticated Asian cuisine.

It's a shame that not only have the prices increased on the new menu, but the exotic mango salad is no longer offered, which used to be a real highlight...

Great experience! Very nice service. Sushi and sashimi absolutely top, haven't experienced this good in a long time. Almost comparable to Japan, and that’s saying something. Very tender fish, extremely aromatic, absolutely worth the price. If we are in Magdeburg again, a must.

After we looked at the Banksy exhibition in the Hypar bowl, we were a bit hungry. So we sat in the car and looked on the navigation system for a restaurant nearby - ah, there was something Asian there, we felt like it and entered it as our destination. We parked in front of the cathedral. We rushed once to the Hindertwasserhaus and then quickly found our destination. At the entrance I asked for a table for two and we were asked if we had reserved. Of course not, it was spontaneous - and we were led to a nice table for 4 outside and asked if we'd have enough until 7 p.m. Yes, that's easily enough. The cards were brought to us and then the “problem” started. If you look at all the dishes around us on the neighboring tables and take a look at the menu... you can be a bit overwhelmed. The plates all looked so fantastic! Well, I'm not much of a sushi lover, and there's every conceivable sushi on the menu, but I also found what I was looking for on the menu. My choice fell on the poultry with mango and chicken, my companion chose the bowl with tuna. It didn't take long before our food arrived and what it came looked so good and now it comes, it also tasted so good. My chicken was grilled so well, fresh mango, beans, tomatoes - it was just really good! The bowl also looked good. My companion said she had never eaten tuna as good as there. The prices are absolutely reasonable for the quality. If we come to Magdeburg again, we will definitely stop by again and then reserve a table in advance.

We have been regular guests for years and it is actually one of our favorite restaurants. The food is recommended, the staff is always friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere is very nice. Unfortunately, Hyaku Mizu has almost "doubled(?)" prices recently. Familiar dishes that we always liked and that always attracted us to the restaurant have also disappeared from the menu. For example, the Exotic Mango Salad, which was so fresh and fruity, was missing...a shame! Yesterday, for the first time in years, we weren't quite as impressed as usual...

Hier wird eine Asien Karte rundum geboten. Ob das jetzt „japanisch“ ist sei einmal dahingestellt. Sushi kommen ja ursprünglich von dort und die gibt es hier. Die Kunden sind zufrieden. Ich mag keinen kalten Fisch und bekomme trotzdem ordentliches Essen. Udon Nudeln zum Beispiel mit Hähnchen. Ich bin zufrieden und komme wieder.

This time we held our girls' night at Mizu. I forgot to take a photo, Japan had it. Pasta with vegetables & corn-fed chicken. Mege, super tasty, nice and hot and the sauce, a dream. Exactly my taste. I'd love to come back and of course spread the word ❤️🧡💛

If you are looking for a Japanese restaurant, you should definitely go here. We had reserved in advance and were assigned a nice table inside. Comfortable armchairs with backrests and armrests increased the length of time spent. We were welcomed and shown to the table. The service was friendly and quick. The starters we ordered (including a wonderful miso soup) were great, as were the main course and dessert. Sake and Asian. Beer rounded off the meal. Only the price for 2 small ice cream mochi seemed too high to us. A successful evening for the 4 of us, we would love to come back!

Bis zu diesem Besuch hielt ich die Gastronomie in Magdeburg eher für überteuert und geschmacklos. Das hat sich nun verändert. 😃 Das Restaurant liegt etwas unscheinbar in der grünen Zitadelle, dem Hundertwasser Haus. Als ich das Restaurant betreten habe, habe ich mich in die 70'er zurück versetzt gefühlt. Das knallige orange ist echt speziell. Aber es passt zu dem Ort. Gegen 17:00 Uhr war ich der einzige Gast und wurde sehr freundlich begrüßt. Insgesamt waren alle Mitarbeiter sehr freundlich. Das Essen war wirklich sehr lecker. Bilder sagen ja mehr als tausend Worte...

It was with great anticipation that we reserved a table on a Saturday. It was a real shame that the order of the food we ordered (starter & main course) was “mixed up” or simply forgotten. That can happen, but: We stayed in the restaurant for 2 hours. Unfortunately, apart from ordering, serving and paying, not a soul showed up at our table. We paid after 40 minutes with the dishes used and no drinks. The still polite feedback was impossible to handle and not a single note of regret was expressed. When I asked the owner, I was told that no one was there. Note to the owner: You should be in your store more often to get this done to experience for yourself. Despite the decent food, I can't recommend this shop.

Have been here many times, always eaten well. Ordered teriyaki tuna for the fifth time today. Unfortunately full of tendons. Hardly edible. Notification to service is made. The whole fish of the fish dish was left lying around. Food still charged in full. No response even when asked. Actually unusual at that level. Unfortunately not anymore. It's a shame because it was always delicious...

Direkt im Hundertwasserhaus gelegen punktet das Restaurant mit schönen Aussenplätzen, freundlichen Gastgebern und einer umfangreichen Speisekarte mit Tagesangeboten. Die georderten Sushivarianten waren sehr gut zubereitet. Neu für mich war das Sushi mit Wagyu. Sehr lecker! Auch das 150g Wagyu Steak mit Süsskartoffel für 60€ Euro war hervorragend zubereitet! Es zerschmolz auf der Zunge und hätte mehr sein können. Vielleicht nimmt man 2 Portionsgrössen auf die Karte. Für ein Restaurant dieser Kategorie war die Weinkarte aber etwas schmal. Schade! Fazit: Sehr gute Küche zu akzeptablen Preisen. Das Wagyu-Angebot war hervorragend! Sehr zu empfehlen!

We ordered the following dishes: Chicken and coconut soup Summer Rolls Mango Tango Roll Udon noodles Caramel pineapple Mango yogurt ice cream All dishes were freshly prepared and super tasty. We liked the two desserts the most. The mango yogurt ice cream was to die for. Great end to our meal. The service was attentive and friendly. The food was served promptly. The decor of the restaurant was modern, clean and had a nice ambience. There is also a special lunch menu. I can only recommend the restaurant.

Prices are of course a little more - but ok. The ambience is nice. Pleasantly cool inside in summer. The food is wonderful! Well, as always in Asian restaurants, the service is top!

We've wanted to go to this restaurant before, but something always stopped us. Today we dared - and we were not disappointed! Very tasty food, wide selection of dishes and spirits, very polite and helpful service. We will definitely come back to try more dishes from the menu.
