Very nicely located, but the opening hours are a bit inconvenient.

The food is good, just like the prices. It's worth a visit. Simple furnishings. Very friendly and attentive service. I'd definitely go back. The old building is showing its age, both inside and out. But it's nice that there's a playground right next door. After dinner, you can go hiking, see several red deer and wild boar enclosures, and climb the observation tower.

We only ate small bites there, but they all tasted good. The service was also good. But for us, the ambiance was the perfect end to a day of hiking.

Beautiful location, but the service is terrible. I ordered two chocolate cakes, two cappuccinos, one waffle, and apple juice. The apple juice and one chocolate cake were missing. I asked the staff about it, but they didn't bring it. My toddler was angry that she didn't get a drink. When I paid, I pointed out what hadn't been delivered. Then I had to pay €23.40 and didn't get a receipt. That seems way too much to me. So be careful, and the service is terrible!

A lovely place to stop after a long walk. We were very pleased, especially with the young, friendly waiters. The food was delicious and tasty. The ambiance is lovely. We felt very comfortable and will be back. The pizza, by the way, was absolutely delicious.

We each had a delicious schnitzel with chanterelle mushrooms in a cream sauce. It was really very good. The dessert, a chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream, was also great. The service was excellent and quick, although we sat outside and it wasn't very busy. You can tell from the furniture and the bathroom facilities that the restaurant has been around for a long time. I can't comment much on the interior design, as we sat outside. We'd be happy to come back just for the food and the good service.

Every weekend, we walk up and down Hülser Berg with our dog or our grandchildren, past the deer to the restaurant, and linger there for a while because it's simply cozy! When the weather's nice, the ice cream man even comes by 👌🏻

Friendly and attentive staff, absolutely reasonable prices, and everything I've eaten there so far has been delicious and fresh. And by the way... the place really stands out. The observation tower is just a few meters away. And right next door is a fairly large playground for children. All in all... it couldn't be better.

The Hülser Berg itself and this lovely little restaurant are ideal for a nature-based excursion on the Lower Rhine. The location is interesting, nestled between a viewing tower, a playground, forest trails, and a beautiful road bike path. The fact that the staff even showed interest in our bikes made our Whitsun bike tour perfect :) Many thanks for the excellent service, we'll be back soon :)

The Bergschänke is idyllically located on the Hülser Berg and is surrounded by forest and nature. There are sufficient parking spaces available. There is plenty of seating both inside and in the beautiful beer garden. The menu and the corresponding dishes offer a good selection and quality. The service staff are friendly and attentive. I can fully recommend the Bergschänke!! But I have to make a small restriction. In my opinion, the disabled-accessible driveway into the restaurant on one side of the building could be made usable again with a reasonable amount of effort.

Nice place to visit when the weather is good.

Best location in the middle of nature surrounded by forest, playground in front of the door. Everyone is welcome, including four-legged friends!

We usually visit the Bergschänke twice a month. Lastly, the Teryakki salad with chicken breast strips and avocado 🥑. Very tasty and filling. Everything else we tried was also Tippitoppi. Nice little beer garden under beautiful old trees. Interior just cozy in a rustic building. Service is always attentive and customer friendly. The boss is friendly and always there for a quick chat. Closed Monday, Tuesday, Thursday. There is a "beer garden" and a parking lot. Very close to the observation tower.

We ordered a soup and a Leffe from the tap. The service was great and the soup was on the table quickly. After a short hike on Hülser Berg, the right stop to warm up again.

I hadn't been there since I was a child and immediately found it very inviting and cozy. Rustic, attractive ambience, a nice oven and enough space for our two dogs, who were more than tolerated. From the boss, with whom we spoke in detail and nicely, to the service staff, everyone was very friendly and attentive 👍🏼 We had the vegetarian currywurst with fries, both delicious and good portions. Highly recommended for vegetarians too 😊

We were there the day before yesterday on New Year's Eve, the restaurant was closed for a private party. I urgently needed to go to the toilet and asked if that was possible. I was refused this in a very unfriendly, smoking and dismissive tone, saying it was closed. Would it have been different with a child...? Hospitable is different. This place doesn't get my money anymore, no matter what the food is like.

Very cozy restaurant, the paprika cream schnitzel was very tasty. If the weather is nice, do a few laps through Hülser Bruch beforehand. If the weather isn't good, you can still stay here very comfortably and have a delicious waffle with hot cherries. Price performance is definitely right...

Friendly staff, cozy atmosphere, good selection of food.

We love the Bergschänke and their hosts. The whole team is friendly, open, familiar. The food is hearty and individual and of very good quality. Waffles, currywurst (spicy), salad, roast game and much more is excellent. For us, the Bergschänke is often the actual excursion destination and the forest and playground around it are a nice addition. It is a place for all ages. And thanks to the beer garden, outdoor terrace and indoor area, there are many different places to sit and hang out. Update: we now regularly visit on Fridays and Saturdays for the legendary pizza - the free choice between high-quality ingredients leaves nothing to be desired. The dough is delicious. And especially now, even in the dark season, Monique, Robert and their sensational team manage to create a great atmosphere in a friendly, attentive and open manner. The cozy Bullerjahn oven and the large real Christmas tree are perfect. Lovingly decorated.

Unfortunately I have to change my rating. The last time we were there, everything was great...We had pizza. This time wasn't good at all! You can forget something when there's a lot going on, for God's sake, but first a drink that came forever later, for two people there was coleslaw and one more mayo that still didn't come when the plate was empty... for one person it was Mushroom cream sauce sour (2 also tried it!) The waiter only responded to this advice with: I'll let you know in the kitchen. Then he wanted/should collect and if I hadn't asked, there wouldn't have been an answer that the sauce would have been made fresh in the morning. No apologies, no discount. On request...!!! If we couldn't get a coffee on the house after all the chaos, we got 3 more coffees. Really a shame! UPDATE!!! THAT'S VERY NICE with the dogs. I see you took the time to read my review! Nevertheless the reaction doesn't work at all!!!! No matter if there is a lot to do!

You can grab a bite to eat there after your walk. Nothing special and the ambience is underground!

Friendly employees quick service

We were lucky to get a table outside and had to wait a while before we could order. The young employees mastered the large crowds with calm and charm. After we placed our order everything went well. Both the vegetarian and the normal currywurst along with French fries were great. But the “main course salad” was also very well received. Not least because all the ingredients (not just the green salad) were served in an appropriate mixture. All in all, a visit that I have already planned to repeat.

I sat outside and just drank coffee ☕️ and ate a very tasty waffle.

Even if there is very poor internet reception there, it is great there. The food is a delight, the service is extremely friendly and the environment is simply relaxing. It's not that bad if you don't have internet and limit yourself to the essentials. Dogs are also very welcome there. In the house there is also a blanket for the lovely four-legged friends to lie on and water bowls are available and will be filled upon request. It's a shame that on a Sunday you can only eat until 6 p.m.

What can you say other than actually 0 stars We were there yesterday with the children who just wanted coffee and cake. The staff themselves didn't even know that there was plum cake The cocoa was lukewarm We ordered 4 waffles after being told 3 times when the kitchen would open After 25 minutes 3 waffles arrived and 4 were forgotten There were also 2 water glasses that smelled like a dishwasher. By the way, when I paid 48.90 euros, I asked for the bill and only received the receipt from the EC device. This is much better these days

Unfortunately this was my third time here and I waited over 20 minutes to place an order. I waited another 10 minutes for a latte and a beer to be delivered. Unfortunately, this is a no-go. I understand everything, but not waiting 40 minutes for two drinks. I'm sorry, that doesn't work.

We always feel very comfortable in the Bergschänke. The waitresses are nice and attentive and the kitchen delivers good home-style cooking. Nobody is bothered by children or dogs playing. Like everywhere else, the price goes up - but the innkeeper is not responsible for that. It's nice that this place exists - keep it up.

Nice beer garden with shady spots.

What I like about Hülser Bergschänke is the extremely friendly staff, who occasionally ask whether everything is OK with the food and drink. For an excursion restaurant, the menu is varied and the pizza on Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. is crispy and delicious because you can put together your own toppings. The service is quick and always positive, even when the house is full. Even without a “trip” it is more comfortable than in the city because the atmosphere is simply beautiful and you never have a problem parking.

Unfortunately, it also shows here that a particularly exclusive location can negatively influence the attitude towards the guest. You don't need it, there are enough of them. We came regularly with a larger group of 15-20 people and particularly enjoyed the excellent pizza. With such a large group and other tables occupied at the same time, the service staff can get confused and mix things up, that can happen. But the boss has to be self-reflective enough to recognize this and not accuse his guests of cheating afterwards when there were drinks open at the end that definitely weren't consumed by us. Instead of discussing this calmly, when we make another reservation we are told that we are not welcome and that we will not be given a table in the future. It's great when a restaurateur is doing so well that he can allow himself to behave like that, I'm happy for him. Fortunately, there are many other restaurants where we are happy to be seen and where, strangely enough, the bill is always right.

Unsatisfactory service and disappointing experience Unfortunately, our visit to the Hülser Bergschänke was anything but pleasant. We wanted to order a waffle for our 2 year old as we had seen it on other guests' plates. However, to our surprise, we were told that waffles are only available from 3 p.m. When we asked why other guests already had waffles, the waitress simply replied that this was correct, but that we would still have to wait until 3 p.m. We found this unequal treatment to be extremely unfair. Because of this situation, we ended up just ordering drinks. When we paid we didn't have the appropriate amount on hand and the waitress took it for granted to keep our change as a tip without asking us. She simply assumed and walked away immediately. After pointing this out to them, we received our change back with no friendly behavior. This experience was a disgrace. We are always happy to tip when the service is good, and not a little. But in this case the service was inadequate and the way we were treated was unacceptable. Making differences when serving guests and simply keeping the change is not possible. We are very disappointed and will not recommend Hülser Bergschänke.

Went here just now, I just ordered fries with fish fingers, plus mayo. After asking staff 5 times, this didn't arrive! The food was cold and my son couldn't eat without mayo. So the food was there and the boss couldn't do anything. Real cheek! Pay for everything and not eat. It used to be significantly different. But it's no longer a shame

When the weather is good, we like to be here and sit under the umbrellas with a view of the beautiful old trees. The selection of food is not very large, but good. You can only pay in cash, which I think is a shame. Overall, the facility could use a little more care or renovation in some places.

Today with family 10 people, spent a wonderful afternoon there. Food best quality! We had 10 different dishes. Everything is great! Everything great!!! There was real mashed potatoes. It tasted great! I personally had the spit roast, I love it!!! 10 dishes and everyone was happy. The dessert, but we got the second stomach, a delight chocolate cake with nougat filling, liquid inside. Miam!! ! Best quality drinks from cold drinks, beer to coffee! The service, best quality!!! Lots of friendly faces, lots of attention and no problem at all!!! Great experience!!! Many thanks to the service staff!!!! We were in good hands!!! Value for money was perfect. Ambiance was just great! This is how I imagine a restaurant in the forest!!! In short: "Thank you for the lovely afternoon in your house!" See you soon.

Great atmosphere and good food.

A top location, unfortunately the restaurant itself is unkempt with all the trimmings. There is a lack of loving, clean design. This is somewhat offset by the unique location. It's a shame that the opening times have been so drastically restricted. The food is average, the pizza was great! It's a shame that at such a destination there isn't more emphasis on the overall impression of the terrace and the restaurant. Still worth it if you're nearby. The Viennese style schnitzel tasted average, the meat was thinner than the breading, extremely overpriced for the price. The additionally ordered small side salad contained 2 tablespoons of lettuce, the edge of a cucumber and 3 cm strips of pepper. For €2.90, very expensive. If this had simply been included with the schnitzel, the price of over €16 would just about be justified, taking into account the forest surroundings. I have taken into account the changed conditions for the catering industry since Corona. The bottom line is that the place has deteriorated extremely. I've known it for 40 years. It would be desirable if things would go uphill again. Thank you for your reply on July 2nd. The fact that you allow yourself to judge my assessment in the extra sheet in Leer surprises me, since you yourself were not there during the situation... I also appreciate the diversity and freedom of expression in our country. I'm particularly happy about people who see constructive criticism as a challenge to improve and don't just rely on feedback from regular guests.

Outrageous! There is a large sign on the terrace saying “Apple cake 3 euros” and then 3.80 euros are charged. Even after a discussion, no change in the price. I didn't feel like ruining my day with an endless discussion. But it doesn't work that way! This is dubious!!! To her answer: The money was NOT refunded! If they were aware of the computer error, why was an incorrect invoice presented without notice?

Down-to-earth, very tasty dishes that you can't find on every menu here in the region. Waiters attentive and quick. Various types of beer on tap and in bottles. A beautiful old house that is unfortunately only open on weekends, a shame.

At the request of the restaurant, here is an addition to our visit: Dish: Salad with goat cheese, honey and walnuts Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio was not justified, at least for this dish. A very small portion itself, you had to look for the goat cheese and the nuts and you didn't taste any of the honey either. We wondered if the salad had any dressing at all? My companion found the food “okay”. The atmosphere was great. This rating is of course subjective, relates to our visit and reflects our feelings on the day.

Stopped there by bike for the first time on a cold winter day on Saturday at 2 p.m.! The tavern has a large parking lot that was fully occupied - cars were already parked along the street! Sitting comfortably warm inside near the old wood stove, very busy so I sat down at a larger table with nice people! Several younger waitresses rushed back and forth quickly, it took a while for someone to come but no wonder given the company the drink came quickly and so did my kibbelinge! Unfortunately, I was already disappointed. Kibbelinges in a thick, rubbery breading so that you could hardly taste the fish. Remoulade wasn't my taste either, thin and very sour, fries were great! Next time I would prefer the schnitzels! Oh Tafelspitz! Very nice atmosphere, old, typical, large excursion restaurant, I really liked it, definitely leave it like that! Very friendly service despite the busyness! The tavern also has a very large beer garden and covered outdoor terrace that borders directly on a large playground! The observation tower is about 300 m away!

Nice service, great with coffee and cocoa

After a long walk or bike ride, it is a successful end/stop. It is a small beer garden right next to the playground and therefore perfect for an outing for young and old. The parking lot is in the immediate vicinity (50m). Price-performance is completely okay here. I see a need for optimization in seat cushions for the hard, typical wooden chairs that you know from the beer garden. The food was tasty.

Lame shop!!!! We were there with 15 people on a Saturday at the beginning of July. Grandma's 88th birthday. Not nicely decorated. We sat in the common room, which has really bad acoustics and is pretty old. Just like the rest of the store. Inside and outside. Unfortunately the food was also mediocre. The waitresses are motivated, but probably students with a maximum minimum wage. “Can I clear up?” ...."no, please don't, I'm still eating!" Paying more brings more employees with experience - little tip... Boss? Sat at the table in front of the counter with her paperwork and laughed loudly when I asked for harbor milk for the coffee specialties. We didn't order 6 cappuccinos. The children wanted ice cream, there was only vanilla. Then we went to an ice cream parlor afterwards. The shop could be a gold mine, but it hasn't been for a long time... Even if a restaurant with a boring playground doesn't have a chest with the usual ice cream flavors. A shabby shop... What a shame

Were there today, January 27th, 2024. Our food, 2 different stews, came very quickly. The lentil stew was nice and hot, the potato and leek stew was warm and purple. We still hadn't received the drinks. We spoke to the waitress twice, but unfortunately it didn't help. We then left without having a drink; of course we paid for the food. Something else about the ambience, totally overloaded with bric-a-brac and various Christmas items. We won't be coming back.

Ein netter Abend mit Freunden. Irgendwie hat man die Bergschänke "nur" als Ausflugslokal im Sommer oder am Wochenende auf dem Schirm. Jetzt auch zum "normalen Ausessen". Service und Küche waren klasse. Ich freue mich auf den nächsten Besuch!
