We can only recommend the restaurant. Went there for coffee and dinner. Everything prepared very lovingly and deliciously. We particularly liked the barrier-free access for wheelchairs.

I was there for dinner. The service was nice and on point, the food was very good. Next time I would like to go there again.

There are the biggest cream puffs I've ever seen here.

The location is fantastic - about halfway between the Panorama-Gotel and Zella-Mehlis. Here you have a great view and a heavenly peace - at least in the morning and evening, when the heater group isn't using the winding route to test the knee pads... At least my room was actually a single room and was crammed with a double bed. The table, which was too small, wasn't actually usable; it was so narrow that a cupboard door couldn't be opened, nor could a bedside table. Here, profit maximization clearly prevailed over hospitality. You couldn't darken the room either, so in summer it's very suitable for early risers... 😬 The room had a musty smell of old carpet and it couldn't be darkened. However, the hygiene was much worse... A handful of dead flies behind the bedside lamp, a ceiling light full of dead insects, everything in the bathroom that was chrome-plated or made of steel was completely filthy, the towel holder was rusty... Special requests for dinner could not be accommodated (I have a problem with pepper); But the breakfast was very plentiful and good (not a buffet, but set for each guest).

A pleasant atmosphere in bright sunshine. The giant cream puffs are the ultimate attraction here. Hard to do for one person, but super tasty. However, the location of the inn is very dangerous on a curve.

Absolute catastrophe The condition is extremely unfriendly if it appears at all after 30 minutes of waiting. The overpriced food and drinks are also not worth the money. Hair in the food, the order was taken incorrectly and the food itself is bland and not fresh. The tables are also dirty, and until the dishes from the previous visit are cleared away, multiple requests are necessary. Absolutely not worth a visit. The snack bar above, on the other hand, is the absolute opposite, nice service, good offerings.

Very nice place. We drove past and discovered it by chance. It's actually a motorcycle pit stop, but cars can also find parking here.

Nice ambience, nice service. Food was good and reasonably priced. However, the cream puff was very dry and when I asked if the cream puff wasn't a little dry, the only response I received was: "the cream puff is always like that." I've never seen a cream puff that can be broken like dry bread. Unfortunately 2 stars deducted for that. So we won't be coming back on our next trip.

Oh, what a beautiful place. We always like to come here when we are in the area. The food is delicious and the price is reasonable. The service is attentive and also thought about our little four-legged friend. Please keep this good atmosphere in the team. We felt very comfortable and would love to come back.

The last bratwursts would be received at 3 in the afternoon and then the store would close. Crowds of aggressive wasps. Located on a bend in a multi-lane road that is often used by motorcycles.

Food rather below average...nothing special in terms of taste... I had Steak ou Four...everything was very unseasoned... Fries were ok...unfortunately there wasn't a salad with it either... The service that is not... Had to wait a long time before anyone even came... after the food came... we weren't asked again if we wanted anything else... Conclusion...again not...there are much better places

Very good hotel with extremely friendly and helpful staff. For motorcyclists there is a good snack with delicious sausages and fried onions.

We haven't been to the Sterngrund grill hut for a few years. It has now been completely rebuilt and made new. It's a shame the old, rustic grill hut is gone and so is the charcoal grill. The be-all and end-all for Thuringian bratwurst. Sausage from straw pigs doesn't help either. The rolls have also changed, the current ones look like the Lidl €0.19 rolls. A pity. We won't take a break here anymore. We cannot recommend the grill station.

Nice location, typical Thuringian cuisine, so everything is okay. But what makes you shake your head is that the boss walks around with the gas burner between the people, burning the wasps that are on the wasp traps at the entrance with a smile on his face and then they fly away stressed out and you get stung. This is useless, pointless, disrespectful to the guests (possibly allergic) who were previously not bothered by the presence of wasps, and ultimately cruelty to animals. I hope he reads this and thinks about just leaving it behind and focusing on more important things and at least using his mind.

Was there to eat, food was very good, although a schnitzel for over €20 is not cheap. However, you get a really big schnitzel for it. Beautiful outdoor area with a stream on the busy road.

Das Rostbrätel war unterirdisch schlecht,hatte überhaupt keinen Geschmack ,total fade und das Fleisch zäh. Man musste kräftig nachwürzen. Auch die Sülze u.die Marinade schmeckten wie aus dem Nettomarkt gekauft. Über den Preis brauch man gleich gar nicht sprechen. Sehr enttäuschend.Weiterempfehlen,können wir das Restaurant aus dem Grund nicht. Sorry!

We drive an extra 125 km to Thuringia at least twice a year to eat at Sterngrund. Real, down-to-earth Thuringian cuisine. Excellent food. Five stars!

The inn is conveniently located, plenty of parking, very tasty Thuringian cuisine + fast and friendly service = everything was great and can only be recommended 😉

I can't say about the rooms, they were only there for eating. The cream puff was delicious as always. Service as always good.

We've been there for lunch several times and have always loved it!! Fine ambience which is underlined by the "corner-stealing" bikers, homemade and very tasty food and very friendly service!!! Unfortunately I can't say anything about the rooms, but I will have lunch there again in 2024 and will be thrilled with the Thuringian dumplings with roulade!!!

I can't say anything about the room because we only took a break on our bike tour. The inn is located directly on the street or hobby racing track. 😄 The waitress was very friendly and attentive. The food was just as good, I think the price was still reasonable. Nothing to complain about and recommended without hesitation.

Nice little hotel. Nice staff (especially Ophelia and Anja 😊) and good breakfast. Food and cream puffs also great! Rooms were clean and comfortable (I personally don't like carpet. But that's a matter of taste) IT WAS GREAT, WE'LL COME BACK.

I have been visiting this restaurant regularly for about 20 years. It has always been a good address for Thuringian cuisine with cream puffs as a house specialty. The level remains consistently good with usual fluctuations. My wife's cabbage roll was very good and just like home. My neck steak was ok - juicy and tasty, but the cook had to use less salt. The bill is reasonable. The wish for improvement - the tables should be cleaned better - "not just clean, but pure". In any case, it's worth leaving the highway and taking a break here. A little more taste than at the rest stop, good selection of Thuringian dishes and Rennsteig flair.

On the way back from the zoo in Gotha we had dinner there. The service was very attentive and nice. We immediately received a high chair and children's plates. The pork knuckle was very tender and tasty, and the dumplings were also great. At the little ones' request, there was even unicorn ice cream for dessert. We recommend.

Stopped here yesterday to grab a bite to eat. Unfortunately the grill was not open. And we weren't in the mood for sweets. Our grandson wanted ice cream. When he came out a ball fell hetuni. An employee saw it and called him back. Our grandson got a new ball on the house. Thank you very much for that. Maybe have a cream puff on your next visit.

It's often the people who justify a stay... 🍻We made a stop while passing through because the advertising for the cream puffs made us curious.... But...😁 Unfortunately almost everything went wrong...🫣 First of all the card was gone (the boss had simply taken it with him), then two orders because once was lost... Then my cake 🍰 was forgotten... And there was chaos when paying...😂🫣 But the service was very friendly made up for it with humor and quick wit!!! But we'll be back!!! I want my cake!!!!!😂☕🍰

We had a voucher for eating cream puffs through Spar and I have to say that the cream puffs were really HUGE and super tasty. The staff was super nice, you could have a good chat. Gladly again!!!! 👍🏼💪🏼🤘🏼

The taste is quite good, but for me a rostbrätl is something different. The staff are very nice and very attentive to children. I wish I had found the time to educate myself about gluten but I saw that there was a lot going on. In this context, I would like to say again how friendly everyone was. And boss, you really need a vacation.

We passed this lovely restaurant by chance. And because we were hungry we went in. We were welcomed by the super friendly waitress “Ophelia” and shown to a nice table for two. The fireplace was burning, which also made it nice and cozy 😊. Our food and the dark beer with it were also very tasty 😋. Ophelia made our stay there even sweeter with her super friendly and funny nature 😄. Very customer oriented!

Once for dinner and coffee on Sunday. Food and service great and friendly. The cream puffs are the best we have ever eaten. The next reservation has already been made for Easter Sunday. Kind regards to the lady with the zodiac sign Pisces :-)

Stopped to take a break and have a coffee during our motorcycle tour. The coffee was the finest and the service was as you would expect. You can't find it everywhere anymore.

Really great restaurant in a typical Thuringian atmosphere. In good weather and on Sundays and public holidays, it is advisable to make a reservation by telephone. The giant cream puffs are highly recommended

Einladende Atmosphäre, Feuer im Kamin, romantische Umgebung, die uns gleich zu einem anschließenden Waldspaziergang verführte. Nettes Personal, leckeres Essen und sogar der Hund durfte mit rein und bekam einen Napf mit frischem Wasser.

Wir haben dort nur gegessen und getrunken. Über die Zimmer kann ich keine Aussage machen.

Das ist eine sehr angenehme Gastlichkeit. Der Wirt war sehr nett. Individuelle Essenswünsche waren total unkompliziert von Kloß mit Soße bis Riesenwindbeutel für 3 Personen.

Sehr schöne Gaststätte und guter Service. Wir hatten ein Platz an der Tür und vor dem Kamin . Hier wäre ein Türvorhang im Eingangsbereich nicht verkehrt.

Nettes Ambiente, Bedienung meist freundlich. Essen leider, vorallem für das Geld, unterirdisch. Über 20€ für verkochten Rotkohl, matschigen Klößen, Soße die nicht angedickt und einer kleinen Haxe. 4,40€ für Spezi vom Aldi aus der Einwegplastikflasche. Habe mehr erwartet. Wurden dann um 8Uhr quasi rausgeschmissen. Schade

Wurden freundlichen empfangen, Frühstück war top, Gastgeber sehr zuvorkommend, man fühlte sich gleich heimisch und werden immer wieder dort einkehren.

Zu den Zimmern kann ich nichts sagen. Waren zum Windbeutel essen dort. Eine Gruppe von 8 Personen ganz spontan. Hat es mit den Plätzen geklappt. Obwohl das Restaurant voll war, war man sehr bemüht und unter zu bringen. Hund durfte auch mit rein. Sehr sehr freundliches Personal zuvorkommend, freundlich und immer ein Witz auf Lager. Die Windbeutel waren megaaaa lecker und sehr groß. Preis Leistung angemessen. Ein tolles Lokal zum einkehren. Im Sommer kann man wunderbar draußen sitzen.

Super nette Bedienung. Das Essen ist immer sehr gut. Kommen schon viele Jahre vorbei nur um die Windbeutel oder Hausmannskost zu essen. Außenanlage sehr schön.

Wir waren nur Gäste des Restaurants. Das Ambiente ist ganz urig, allerdings ließ der Service in Fragen wie Freundlichkeit, Aufmerksamkeit und Kompetenz etwas zu wünschen übrig. Das Essen war nicht schlecht, aber eher durchschnittlich.

Sehr freundliches Personal wir nicht vorbestellt und trotzdem haben wir sehr lecker Essen können. Kann man nur weiterempfehlen es passt einfach alles.

Nach einem tollen Tag sind wir im Hotel & Gasthaus Stern eingekehrt um Abendbrot zu essen. 😊 Wir wurden sehr freundlich an einen Tisch geführt und bekamen die Speisekarten. Super tolle Bedienung, die sehr freundlich war. Das Essen war frisch und lecker und hausgemacht. Kann es nur empfehlen und probiert es aus, wir waren sehr begeistert und wenn wir wieder mal in der Nähe sind, werden wir auf jeden Fall dort einkehren. Macht weiter so und liebe Grüße aus Weimar. 🤗

Wir wollten mal wieder Rinderrouladen und Klöße essen. Leider war das Essen lauwarm, die Rouladen zäh und trocken und die Klöße haben ausgesehen, als wären sie vom Vortag. Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich, aber auch hier wurde uns ein Tisch zugewiesen, obwohl wir die 1. waren. Ob ich da nochmal esse, sei dahingestellt und fraglich. Wenn ich 11:30 Uhr lauwarmes essen bekomme, stimmte etwas mit der Organisation nicht.
