We ate here at Sterngrund today; it was absolutely delicious. If you want to eat a truly delicious cream puff, this is the place to go. The menu is excellent, with everything your heart desires. The service is very friendly, and dogs are welcome, too. A definite recommendation for anyone visiting Thuringia.

A round trip came to an end here. The location also offers good restaurants, there's ample parking, and the service is good both inside and outside. We felt well looked after with homemade cakes with whipped cream and coffee/cappuccino. The surroundings invite you to linger or go for hikes in the area. The town of Oberhof, Thuringia, is nearby. So, be sure to give it a try and stop by.

Cozy inn on the country road between Zella-Mehlis and Oberhof.

Sind heute etwas Wandern gewesen und auch am Sterngrund Eingekehrt. Bei ca. 25 Grand wollten wir etwas kühles trinken. Die Getränke kamen dann auch und waren Energiesparend gekühlt! Um nicht zu sagen warm. Beim Essen konnte mann sich nicht den Mund verbrennen, auch diesen wurde auf kleiner Flamme zubereitet. Sehr zu empfehlen ist das Steak denn dieses kann jeder als Ersatzschuhsohle verwenden bei durchgelaufen Sohlen. Beim bezahlen wurden wir mit einer nicht vorhandenen Freundlichkeit verabschiedet. Keinen schönen Tag oder Aufwiedersehen! Meiner Meinung nach sollte selbst der Stern im Wort Sterngrund gestrichen werden. Einfach nur ein großer Windbeutel dieses Lokal.

Just had coffee. The homemade sour cream cake was delicious. It's on a main road - but it looked like the rooms face the back of the forest. The area behind it is very nice with a small stream and pond. There were also many hiking trails signposted.

The food was very tasty, we had stuffed cabbage and a huge cream puff. Unfortunately the service was a bit unfriendly. If you asked if you could sit down, you would get grumpy with them. It had rained earlier and I had no problem getting my chair wiped dry. Food and drink would be served quickly. Good home cooking. Toilets are poorly signposted so you have to ask the service staff. Here, too, I had the feeling that all service was more of a burden than a joy to the guest. The location and the surroundings are manageable.

Cozy place in the sun, but overpriced.

We had dinner at Sterngrund for a birthday. We were looking for a cozy restaurant in a rustic style with delicious German cuisine. Unfortunately, our experience today was not what we hoped for. At first we were greeted very unfriendly by the waitress. The table we were supposed to take was shown from a distance. The menus were carelessly placed on the table and the candle, which was barely there, was lit. We went to the table and put our things down. We weren't really seated yet when we were asked about the drinks without being able to look at the menu. It has to be said that we were the only guests alongside two other couples. We felt very surprised and stressed. The drinks came very quickly, which is a positive thing. We decided on our meal and ordered this from the waitress. When one of our group ordered with the number of the dish, all we got was "And what does that number say?" thrown rudely. This did not show professionalism. After a short time our food reached us, it seemed quite quick to us, but we soon knew why. The chicken breast with frame champions was literally covered in fat, which was probably intended to reinforce the missing seasoning. The salad on the side also tasted bland. We also wondered why there had to be bacon bits everywhere, which made the sauce even saltier than it already was. Even the Wienerschnitzel only had anything to do with it. For the lack of quality that we were served, the prices are massively exaggerated. The ambience was just as lovingly decorated as the waitress appeared to us. Another waitress, who we also looked for in vain to enjoy the job, was at least friendly. The conclusion of today's visit can be said: Anyone who wants to treat themselves to a cool drink after a hike and has the necessary change will definitely not be disappointed. However, if you expect delicious German cuisine, you should use the travel time until then and go to another German restaurant.

I spent one night there. My room was okay, but could have been a little cleaner, as the trash belonging to the person who slept there before me wasn't put away. But this was the only thing. Dinner in the restaurant was good, but a bit expensive in my opinion, I had one of the two vegetarian dishes. There were no vegan dishes on the menu. The breakfast was great and the service in the morning was also very accommodating. Since breakfast was served separately for each guest and there was no buffet, I had told them in advance that I didn't eat meat, which was taken into account straight away in the morning and there was simply more cheese. ;) You can start hiking straight from the hotel, which was really great.

We wanted to have lunch there during a long weekend. Although we came in without a reservation with 6 adults and 3 children and the waitress was alone and many of the tables were occupied, we received a very friendly welcome. After a brief consideration, the waitress told us that if we had some time we could stay. We didn't regret staying. The service was quick and friendly, and painting supplies were immediately brought for the children. The food was great and plentiful, no matter what. If we're ever in the area again, we'll be happy to come back.

Delicious Viennese style schnitzel with fries. Service is top and super friendly. I would give more stars if possible. All I can do is promise: I'll come back when I'm nearby!

Recommended hotel. Friendly staff, prices ok. You should definitely try the super cream puffs. Today, however, it was a “failure” for me; the hot cherries had a strange taste. In summer there are often illegal motorcycle races on the road past the hotel.

Short vacation in Oberhof. We were traveling in zella-mehlis and on a tour of the ski area and stadium and ski jumping facility in Oberhof. Since we were here before, we came back. It was tasty again and we'll be back. The restaurant was well attended.

We were there on January 7th for the silver wedding anniversary. It was a very nice evening. The service was great and the waitress was super friendly. The food was delicious and also for a great price. We wanted to thank you again for a great evening.

We went here spontaneously for lunch today and it was a very good choice! The food, especially the Tafelspitz, was excellent. Very charming service and very child friendly. My husband comes here often in the summer with his motorcycle group and they are always very satisfied. We'll be back.

A very nice atmosphere. The service was very nice and the restaurant is super family friendly. The food was very tasty and the portions were also very large. The restaurant is very cozy with a fire in the fireplace and very loving decoration. It's worth browsing through the map. :) We'll come back anytime :)

Pre-booked a table to be on the safe side, but it wasn't necessary. Most people are in Suhl during Advent. So enough space; nice reception. Ordering went super quickly. All extra requests were fulfilled. The food was very plentiful and tasty. Everyone enjoyed it right down to the last bite. Food around 20€. Add a beer or shandy etc. Everything is within the framework. I can't say anything about the rooms, only about the food. Five hungry people came and left completely full and well-situated. Gladly again 👍🏻

There is one star less for deleting the increased recession... The food was delicious, the service was very nice, but it was definitely my last birthday meal here. Why? I don't know where to start... The opening times are posted on site until 9 p.m., so it wouldn't be too much to ask at 6:45 p.m. when you're sitting in front of an empty restaurant to ask if you'd like anything else. But what still weighs heavily on my stomach to this day is the clearly audible statement from the chef who complained loudly shortly before 7 p.m. "Do they seriously want to eat cream puffs now?" I come from the catering industry myself and know the problem when a guest orders something shortly before the kitchen closes, but since no kitchen closing time was communicated, I can't understand this reaction at all... even if there had been a kitchen closing time, I wouldn't have communicated it like that the guest can hear clearly... All in all, very nice waitress and delicious food but the circumstances really spoiled my birthday meal.

Beautiful, almost 200 year old hostel, now a successful ensemble, hotel with catering and it's great. Plus the house specialty: giant cream puffs, which are lovingly prepared. Also a pleasantly friendly staff. There is a kind of bistro attached which functions as a biker meeting place. Due to its location on the main road between Oberhof and Zella-Mehlis and the really great range of restaurants on offer, the house is always well attended. There are many cozy, rustic outdoor spaces for the warm days, as well as an interesting picture of the outdoor area with small waterfalls and large wooden figures. So also something for the eye. All in all a great destination.

We stopped here for lunch and it was absolutely the right choice! The inn was very well filled and new guests kept coming. The employees absolutely kept calm and were very polite, competent, gave very good advice and also had understanding and a heart for small children! The food was very, very tasty and so was the dessert! Unfortunately I didn't take any photos of it, which I regret very much! I or we can only recommend this inn with its friendly staff and great cuisine and will be happy to come here again on our next trip to the Thuringian Forest!

From the outside the hotel doesn't look particularly inviting. Luckily we booked one in Oberhof. If you go to the toilet after 2 hours of hiking you will be greeted rather rudely. The atmosphere in the restaurant is worse than at a funeral. At least the food looked delicious. Our order was limited to drinks only.

Spent two nights there to stay overnight. Good starting point for hikes in a great location. Unfortunately, the radiator in the bathroom in room 3 was completely rusted, and the WiFi password was only requested when we asked in the restaurant, only to discover that there was no WiFi in the room. The food in the restaurant is very good, but the price/performance ratio is not right. Addendum I had forgotten, of the 9 channels available on TV, even the public ones were in SD and the picture was terribly bad.

Unfortunately I can't say anything about the hotel itself as I didn't have the pleasure of spending the night there, but I can say something about the staff at the restaurant... My best experiences have been with one waitress, always friendly, always in a good mood, she loves her job and you can tell :) However, yesterday I had a very unpleasant experience when my friend and I were driving home from Zella-Mehlis and thought we could have dinner there. A waiter (bald and male) and a waitress (blonde/gray and a little older) were apparently responsible for the afternoon/evening operations. We weren't greeted and were initially "ignored" or the waiter just watched us and stayed behind the bar. The waitress first talked to another guest and then went behind the bar to get drinks. However, since this process took longer, I got up to get the menu for my friend and I, which was obviously at their "regular place" (where all the cards and cutlery are). On my way back to the table, the waitress apparently came up with the idea of ​​bringing us the cards. However, her eyes darkened and a bad aha followed the fact that we already had cards on hand. The tea light was turned on and then she turned around and, in a rage, panting, climbed down from the pedestal (sat on the rise at the far left of the bar) and threw her lighter on the cupboard to the left of the entrance, which made a nice clatter. We then got up and said goodbye with the words that we won't eat with such rude waiters and the shop shouldn't be surprised that the people might be fewer and regular customers just come back and leave without anything because of one or two waitresses buy if these are not there. This completely drags down the image of the store... By the way, it's not the first time that the bald man ignores his guests. There have been many times when he just does a quick lap outside and then leaves without handing out cards or serving guests. And you blonde is always rude and annoyed. As a side note, leave the job if you don't feel like it... The cream puff is always a treat when I order it with hot raspberries 💕
