Giant cream puffs are meant literally here. Filled with vanilla ice cream and various fruits (raspberries, cherries, etc.), the pastries transform into a complete meal! 😋 The place is dog- and biker-friendly, but the parking lot is constantly overcrowded due to the high number of visitors. Nevertheless, it's worth a visit.

I didn't stay overnight. But everything else deserves 5 stars...The manager and his staff work so hard to keep everything beautiful and interesting! There really should be a special award from the public!!!👍 🍀 😎 😇

We visited yesterday and today. The food was excellent. The rolls, red cabbage, and dumplings were excellent. The atmosphere was very pleasant. The trout was very tender and delicious. Oh, what a lovely place! We always enjoy coming here when we're nearby. The food is delicious and the prices are reasonable. The service is attentive and even thought about our little four-legged friend. Please keep this good atmosphere in your team. We felt very comfortable and would be happy to come back.

We stayed there as a biker group of three people from August 15-18, 2025. Beautiful accommodations, beautiful rooms. The breakfast was superb. The dinner was exquisite. The staff, Anja, was top-notch. We highly recommend it. If we're ever in the area again, we'll definitely stay there again.

We spent a weekend there with our daughter in both winter and summer and would love to come back next year. Our room had everything we needed, it's quiet, and the food was excellent... Whether it was breakfast, coffee (plus XXL cream puffs or trout or schnitzel), everything was delicious. Thanks to the friendly team.

I went there with my husband and granddaughter for coffee. The giant cream puffs are quite a sight. You have to be very hungry to eat one. The service was very good, and the gentleman who served us was extremely nice and friendly. My iced coffee was delicious and flavorful, which isn't something you get everywhere. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We stopped here for a cream puff, and it was exceptionally delicious. Highly recommended. The solyanka before it was okay. It wasn't as typical East German as I'm used to, but it was okay. Very friendly service, which I admire for how it's done. I can't rate the hotel highly enough.

We got off the highway to find a restaurant for a bite to eat and stumbled upon this place completely by chance. Fast service, very good and tasty food for a very reasonable price, and we finally got a proper pot of coffee outside of Schleswig-Holstein. <3 We also ordered dessert: a cream puff with hot raspberries and vanilla ice cream. It was simply amazing and incredibly huge. I've now saved the place in my Google random discoveries folder, and if we drive this route again, we'll stop by again.

For the obligatory Thuringian bratwurst as a quick stopover, quite expensive but good.

An absolute disaster! We had reserved a table for the evening of July 9, 2025. When we arrived, there were only three guests there. We ordered our food and after 1.25 hours!!! asked when it would arrive. The waitress told us that the chef was now preparing it. After another 15 minutes, the waitress informed us that the order slip had disappeared into the kitchen 😂 and no food had been prepared. Since it was already 6:45 p.m. and the kitchen closes at 7:30 p.m., we couldn't reorder and left. "It can happen," was the waitress's response! Incidentally, this was already the second time this has happened to us there. Never again!

We went to Sternengrund just to eat cream puffs, and we weren't disappointed. The cream puffs there are truly huge and taste delicious. We highly recommend them.

Yesterday, I spontaneously went out to eat with my parents. We decided on the Sterngrund restaurant. The food was, as always, excellent! Because of the huge portions, I've never been able to fit a cream puff in the past, so my mother and I opted for a senior's plate. The service was first-class! We've never been welcomed so warmly and hospitably in our lives. Many thanks to Ophelia! My dog ​​also immediately received a fresh bowl of water. It's also important to me how man's best friend is treated. Animals recognize good people immediately.

For families with children, yes. Not so suitable for those who need peace and quiet.

Went to Sternengrund today. It was perfect. Great service; Ophelia loves her job and people, and you can tell. The food is delicious and plentiful, and the value for money is great, too. The hotel rooms are comfortable and very clean. We were there with friends and would love to come back. ☺️

We received courteous service, and parking is available on-site. The value for money is good. The giant cream puff was reasonably priced at around €12 and plentiful. We definitely won't be coming back.

A round trip came to an end here. The location also offers good restaurants, there's ample parking, and the service is good both inside and outside. We felt well looked after with homemade cakes with whipped cream and coffee/cappuccino. The surroundings invite you to linger or go for hikes in the area. The town of Oberhof, Thuringia, is nearby. So, be sure to give it a try and stop by.

Cozy inn on the country road between Zella-Mehlis and Oberhof.

Sind heute etwas Wandern gewesen und auch am Sterngrund Eingekehrt. Bei ca. 25 Grand wollten wir etwas kühles trinken. Die Getränke kamen dann auch und waren Energiesparend gekühlt! Um nicht zu sagen warm. Beim Essen konnte mann sich nicht den Mund verbrennen, auch diesen wurde auf kleiner Flamme zubereitet. Sehr zu empfehlen ist das Steak denn dieses kann jeder als Ersatzschuhsohle verwenden bei durchgelaufen Sohlen. Beim bezahlen wurden wir mit einer nicht vorhandenen Freundlichkeit verabschiedet. Keinen schönen Tag oder Aufwiedersehen! Meiner Meinung nach sollte selbst der Stern im Wort Sterngrund gestrichen werden. Einfach nur ein großer Windbeutel dieses Lokal.

Just had coffee. The homemade sour cream cake was delicious. It's on a main road - but it looked like the rooms face the back of the forest. The area behind it is very nice with a small stream and pond. There were also many hiking trails signposted.

The food was very tasty, we had stuffed cabbage and a huge cream puff. Unfortunately the service was a bit unfriendly. If you asked if you could sit down, you would get grumpy with them. It had rained earlier and I had no problem getting my chair wiped dry. Food and drink would be served quickly. Good home cooking. Toilets are poorly signposted so you have to ask the service staff. Here, too, I had the feeling that all service was more of a burden than a joy to the guest. The location and the surroundings are manageable.

Craziness! We were just passing through. A sign read “cream puff paradise” We came here spontaneously and were extremely enthusiastic. Great restaurant, very nice staff and conditions. The cream puffs are a 10 out of 10. I would recommend it to everyone!

Cozy place in the sun, but overpriced.

We had dinner at Sterngrund for a birthday. We were looking for a cozy restaurant in a rustic style with delicious German cuisine. Unfortunately, our experience today was not what we hoped for. At first we were greeted very unfriendly by the waitress. The table we were supposed to take was shown from a distance. The menus were carelessly placed on the table and the candle, which was barely there, was lit. We went to the table and put our things down. We weren't really seated yet when we were asked about the drinks without being able to look at the menu. It has to be said that we were the only guests alongside two other couples. We felt very surprised and stressed. The drinks came very quickly, which is a positive thing. We decided on our meal and ordered this from the waitress. When one of our group ordered with the number of the dish, all we got was "And what does that number say?" thrown rudely. This did not show professionalism. After a short time our food reached us, it seemed quite quick to us, but we soon knew why. The chicken breast with frame champions was literally covered in fat, which was probably intended to reinforce the missing seasoning. The salad on the side also tasted bland. We also wondered why there had to be bacon bits everywhere, which made the sauce even saltier than it already was. Even the Wienerschnitzel only had anything to do with it. For the lack of quality that we were served, the prices are massively exaggerated. The ambience was just as lovingly decorated as the waitress appeared to us. Another waitress, who we also looked for in vain to enjoy the job, was at least friendly. The conclusion of today's visit can be said: Anyone who wants to treat themselves to a cool drink after a hike and has the necessary change will definitely not be disappointed. However, if you expect delicious German cuisine, you should use the travel time until then and go to another German restaurant.

I spent one night there. My room was okay, but could have been a little cleaner, as the trash belonging to the person who slept there before me wasn't put away. But this was the only thing. Dinner in the restaurant was good, but a bit expensive in my opinion, I had one of the two vegetarian dishes. There were no vegan dishes on the menu. The breakfast was great and the service in the morning was also very accommodating. Since breakfast was served separately for each guest and there was no buffet, I had told them in advance that I didn't eat meat, which was taken into account straight away in the morning and there was simply more cheese. ;) You can start hiking straight from the hotel, which was really great.

We wanted to have lunch there during a long weekend. Although we came in without a reservation with 6 adults and 3 children and the waitress was alone and many of the tables were occupied, we received a very friendly welcome. After a brief consideration, the waitress told us that if we had some time we could stay. We didn't regret staying. The service was quick and friendly, and painting supplies were immediately brought for the children. The food was great and plentiful, no matter what. If we're ever in the area again, we'll be happy to come back.

Delicious Viennese style schnitzel with fries. Service is top and super friendly. I would give more stars if possible. All I can do is promise: I'll come back when I'm nearby!

Recommended hotel. Friendly staff, prices ok. You should definitely try the super cream puffs. Today, however, it was a “failure” for me; the hot cherries had a strange taste. In summer there are often illegal motorcycle races on the road past the hotel.
