Hotel Bayerwaldhof in Bad Kötzting

Update It was another nice vacation. The warmth of the entire team at the hotel makes every stay special and relaxing. There are also constant improvements such as the new and expanded buffet area or newly renovated and redesigned rooms. I'm already looking forward to the next vacation. ------ This was my second time at the Bayerwaldhof and I booked again straight away because everything was perfect and I felt completely comfortable. All areas are very inviting, modern and at the same time cozy. I personally think the large outdoor brine pool and the three hot saunas in the wellness area are particularly great. The treatments in the spa were also all carried out very professionally by very nice staff. I was able to relax a lot. The room, the Josefstube, was also very nice and clean. The food in the restaurant fulfilled all wishes and was always very good, whether at breakfast, in the afternoon or at dinner. The cocktails at the bar were always very well mixed. All the staff in the house are very nice and helpful with any questions or requests, so I really enjoyed my vacation and am already looking forward to the next time!

We have been guests at the Bayerwaldhof for 20 years, which was recommended to us by a good friend. We are always thrilled by the excellent quality of the house. The outstanding friendliness of the Mühlbauer family, the hotel manager Mr. Weiß and the entire staff were, among other things, the reason that we remained loyal to the hotel throughout the entire time. The perfect ambience throughout the house, the beautiful rooms, the excellent food, the very good service in all areas and the magnificent wellness area really leave nothing to be desired. A wonderful week is over and we are already looking forward to the next time in February 2026.

No wish remains unfulfilled here. Warm welcome. Suitcases/bags can be brought to the room, you can also do it yourself. For a 4 day short vacation, manageable luggage. Great room, with attention to detail, as in the entire hotel. And everything is spotlessly clean. Warm, friendly and attentive service everywhere. Culinary delights, intolerances are taken into account. A constant attack on the figure because everything is delicious and beautifully prepared. Fitness studio, super modern and also great, invites you to exercise, as do hiking tours from the hotel. Tried both. The wellness area is beautiful and varied. There is always a lounger. Massages are also recommended, I feel like new. A farm shop and attention to detail round everything off. We had a great break here and will definitely come back. Keep it up and thank you very much to the entire team for our great time.

We felt completely comfortable :) the spa area manages to combine modernity and comfort. Both the food and the service were excellent. Hospitality is very important. I have to deduct a tiny star because you have to pay extra for the sauna infusions. 5€/person isn't much but somehow it doesn't fit with the style and great ambience of the hotel. Other regular guests were also irritated by this innovation.

We were at the Bayerwaldhof for the first time. After we have already visited all relevant and comparable hotels in the Bavarian Forest and partly in Austria and South Tyrol, we think that our short review below is meaningful. The Bayerwaldhof has surpassed “all” the hotels we know of by quite a bit. Everything is absolute here!!! and perfect without any flaws. Particularly noteworthy is the service and the genuine friendliness of the staff. Likewise the quality of the cuisine. This is definitely 5 star level. The wellness area, the rooms, fitness studio, riding stables are all top notch and well maintained. We particularly liked the fact that coffee or tea was free at the afternoon buffet. This always annoyed us at the other hotels. Class!! Smokers have also been thought of with the heated smoking pavilion including a cat. Otherwise I'm always standing somewhere in the rain or outside. Table decorations and the entire decoration in the hotel with incredible details and little hands. The room maids were friendly, quick, clean and simply top notch. Live music several times a week, great bar area, etc. Only the prices for spirits and cocktails could have been calculated a little more moderately and we would have liked to drink one more. We will definitely come back and are already looking forward to it.

A very expensive one too nice hotel. Unfortunately, the description does not include it being suitable for allergy sufferers (scented air conditioning, scented candles, etc.) and also not suitable for people with walking difficulties (lots of stairs). But otherwise nice hotel, food okay and nice view

We were there with my girlfriend for one night on December 28th, 2024! Unfortunately it is expensive! The hotel is simply fantastic! First of all I really liked the staff, so friendly and helpful! The employee from Ethiopia was very competent and friendly and plays music very nicely! The food is very important to me as a “French” person :) and it was excellent! The wellness area is simply wonderful and all the details have been studied (candles, etc…) so that you can relax perfectly! The room was also perfect, except maybe the glass door of the toilets. The gym is also perfect and modern! What else should I write, hopefully I'll become a millionaire so I can come more often!!!

Hotel located away from the hustle and bustle on the edge of the forest with a very nice wellness area. Very rich and tasty food selection. The employees are very friendly and helpful. We felt very comfortable and welcome. A great short vacation for us. We'll definitely come back.

We have been here several times for dinner and now also overnight. We had a slightly older room, but it was still really nice with a balcony and clean too. The wellness area has been modernized and is very large, it is a shame that all the loungers are always permanently occupied. I always make sure we vacate our place, but unfortunately the other guests can't do it. There would be more seating options in the nude area. Unfortunately, there isn't much on offer for children in the wellness area. The breakfast is very rich and nothing is missing. At dinner, I think there is no warm starter at the buffet because the main course is also very small. There are quite a few salads that I don't think are necessary. I find prices too expensive.

Just wow. It was a very nice wellness weekend. Highly recommended. We'll definitely be back.

What can I say? It's not for nothing that we've been coming to this house for over 10 years! When we walk through the door and the unique hotel smell hits us, all the stress falls away and we have arrived. We can switch off here! The staff is always nice and accommodating; if you have any concerns, they are taken care of immediately. There are always guided tours so you can take a look behind the scenes - we also think it's great and are happy to take part. Thanks to the entire team! P.s.: I can only recommend testing the Leos! The "normal" food is already great - but the Leos... unbelievable! :-)

Our regular wellness hotel for several years! This time we were here for the 7th time and had the new Sky Suite. That was another absolute upgrade. Anyone who goes to the Bayerwaldhof will hit the bull's eye. Everything is just right here. The wellness area is extremely modern and designed with attention to detail. However, you can tell that the hotel has grown extremely (many new rooms) and the wellness area has not yet. Therefore, when it was fully occupied, it was unfortunately very full and there were hardly any free places to lie down... Meanwhile, even the staff goes around with a piece of paper and a pen, notes down which loungers are free and clears them out after 60 minutes if there is still no one here 😅 There is an urgent need for action here and that other guests have also confirmed this. There is something for every taste and every budget in the different room categories. The fitness area is second to none - I have been to numerous 4 and 5 star hotels and none had a comparable fitness and wellness area. The food is also amazing, especially the breakfast has always been our favorite. It feels like coming home every time. :) This time our service was excellent and again significantly better than our previous stays! Rudi knows his job and listened to our every wish. He was also super nice and personable. Unfortunately, you can no longer order fresh waffles and pancakes at breakfast. This used to be a huge plus point compared to other hotels and has been eliminated without replacement :( The waffles under the heat lamp are hard and don't taste good. Unfortunately, a big downgrade for breakfast. We also had a pretty bad experience at the bar. The gentleman at the bar sent us away in a relatively unfriendly manner when we wanted to get the drinks ourselves after waiting 20 minutes for our waitress. When after half an hour there was still no one there - unfortunately one service is a bit small for the entire bar and it was very slow - we left. All in all, still our favorite wellness hotel with tiny drawbacks, the hope that you can order the waffles again and the wellness area will be expanded :)

A really nice hotel in the Bavarian Forest. Unfortunately a bit very remote, but with a great swimming area including wellness and spa, which is rarely found like this. The entire ambience, the rooms, the friendly service, in short, the entire atmosphere is very familiar and therefore pleasant. The downside, however, is dinner. Although there is a chef who has been decorated with a star, this is unfortunately not consistently reflected in the quality of the food in the evenings. There is often clearly noticeable room for improvement in all gears. And this is especially true compared to other comparable houses. But you can work on it!

I am very sorry that Google removed my 5-star review (rating) after 8 months! I was there! Unfortunately, my (evidence) images suddenly suddenly violate Google guidelines! I was there for a trial period of work, but I and my wife were still allowed to use the full extent of the hotel like a normal guest. A hotel of superlatives. I would have loved to work there. Unfortunately it didn't work out and we then decided on another applicant.

The best hotel in terms of price/performance ratio that I have stayed in so far. Excellent food and a heavenly wellness area. There is also a very modern fitness area with daily classes and very friendly staff. Only the old rooms are really getting a bit old. But there are already modern rooms that are very nice.

Addictive potential! I'll be pampering myself there 4 times this year!!! So cozy, friendly, uncomplicated, high quality food, fantastically beautiful rooms, wonderful massages........Could go on forever....

Highly recommended. We felt completely comfortable. Very large and beautifully designed sauna/pool area. Star food from the chef with high-quality ingredients and lovingly decorated. Buffet always rich and very tasty. ALL employees were very nice and competent. Applications are ok. It's a matter of taste, but everyone here is very nice. 2 small points of criticism: A coffee machine for all guests is a bit small. The products in the farm shop are a bit overpriced. We stayed at the Bayerwaldhof for a weekend and would love to come back! Everything was great and can only be recommended. The textile-free area is particularly noteworthy. It is very large and primarily offers swimming opportunities in a natural pool and whirlpool. We have never found this in any other wellness hotel.

Very nice hotel…. However, a star deduction for the outrageous flat rate for a dog. Cleaning fees of €45 have recently been incurred. Even though you pay €19 a day for a dog. Isn't that enough as a cleaning fee? Very annoying!

My wife and I had the pleasure of spending a weekend at the wellness hotel and it was simply amazing! I was warmly welcomed upon arrival. The hotel is located in a beautiful, quiet environment that immediately provides relaxation. Our Skyloft room was spacious, tastefully decorated and offered breathtaking views of nature. The comfortable bed and the impeccable cleanliness in particular made our stay very pleasant. The wellness area was the absolute highlight. With a sauna, steam bath, pool and various massages, it left nothing to be desired. The professional therapists ensured that every treatment was a real treat. The culinary offerings were also excellent. The restaurant served fresh, regional dishes, and the breakfast buffet was rich and delicious (MEGA). The leisure activities, from hiking to yoga, rounded off the stay perfectly. Overall, our visit was an unforgettable experience, as always. We can only warmly recommend it and look forward to our next visit.

A great house with a wellness area that is second to none, kitchen, staff, rooms leave nothing to be desired, I would like to emphasize the friendliness of the staff once again. It was our first time at the Bayerwaldhof and my expectations were already high before we arrived thanks to the 4.9 (!) rating on Google (over 1,000 reviews). Nevertheless, the Bayerwaldhof managed to exceed my expectations. In addition to the outstanding cuisine, the modern, comfortable rooms and the brilliant wellness area, it is the supposed little things that set the Bayerwaldhof apart from other hotels, for example: - Bathrobes for the little ones in the room, - changing sauna infusions - the very friendly staff There is a story that describes this special warmth very well: We ran out of swim diapers for our two little ones. You could buy some in the hotel's own farm shop. However, this one was closed. I randomly turned to the hotel manager. Without further ado, he took me to the store, which was actually closed, and gave me the diapers. He then asked me how many children I had. I answered two. He then gave me two cuddly toys and a children's book, which made our children very happy👍 For us, the journey from northern Germany was absolutely worth it and we can understand why our table neighbors have been coming to the Bayerwaldhof for over 30 years. We will definitely come back too.😊

So I'm here for the first time and have just been here 24 hours a day, but gastronomy couldn't be more perfect... relaxation and service at a 5* level! Just great !!

We have been coming to the Bayerwaldhof in Liebenstein for 25 years now. This is not a habit, but always immersing yourself in a little paradise. So far always in winter. This year we were there again in June and found that this also has its attractions. The many outdoor lounging options, the natural pool, there are flowers everywhere, and despite the warmth (heat) outside, the sauna infusions were no less fun than in winter. The evening spa 2 days a week is to die for! - would be nice in winter too! - I do not know where to start..... The STAFF is always not only very friendly and very attentive, but also very warm. You can tell that they enjoy their work and enjoy working here. The FOOD is of excellent quality, always fresh and tastes simply delicious. The selection is huge! The ROOMS are very nice and always very clean, my thanks to the room fairies. There are different room categories for every taste and every budget, so that even the "normal" can afford a room in the traditional category and thus enjoy this great hotel. Thank you for that! The WELLNESS AREAS are extremely modern, very spacious and versatile, designed with great attention to detail, both the textile area and the nudist area. Above all, everything is always very clean!! The MASSAGES should also be mentioned, which are the icing on the cake for complete relaxation thanks to the very professional therapists. I would also like to mention the homely atmosphere and the very beautiful decorations. There are comparable hotels, but none better! Here the quality and the price-performance ratio are still just right. In the meantime, our son and his family and friends and some of our friends have been coming to the Bayerwaldhof with enthusiasm for years. The hotel has constantly developed over the 25 years we have been here, but has never taken off. We're coming again in July, this time with the grandson to finish school. He now deserves it after all the stress of studying. Let's see if he too becomes infected with the "Bayerwaldhof virus" :)) and becomes a regular guest. "The little paradise in the country" - unfortunately now with major drawbacks... I have known the BWH for many years. The “shortage of skilled staff” is also noticeable in this hotel, which is a shame! The hotel's official video mentions a staff turnover rate of just 1%. This time I didn't encounter any "older regular employees". Not in service, at reception, etc. All of them were young employees who often reached their limits. The best restaurant employee was our Julian, who has only been there for 6 months and is doing training. Big compliments to him again! Otherwise we couldn't communicate at times and the waitress was extremely unfriendly, so we changed tables after the first evening, really sad! The best came at the end: the lovely IT system made a mistake during billing. The receptionist didn't notice this. It was only when I asked more questions that she became aware and advised me to clarify the financial discrepancies with my friend, who shared the room with me. I really thought I was in the wrong movie! A quick word about the food in the evening: The portions that were served as the “main course” were EXTREMELY manageable. This is probably not for hungry men. With an overnight price per room of just under €400, you could actually assume that you will be full. All in all, in my opinion, the price-performance ratio is unfortunately no longer really good. Great praise goes to the beautiful wellness pool sauna area and the incredibly friendly employees in the in-house BWH shop. There were really great things there!

Time out full of heartfelt moments! It was our 4th visit to this beautiful hotel (August 2023). It feels like coming home every time. Everything is familiar and yet there is always something new to discover. You just wish you had more time to be able to enjoy it all even more. As always, we immediately managed to switch off and forget about everyday life. We were able to recharge our batteries, find peace and relaxation and simply enjoy free time without rushing through the day. I could now tell you about the delicious food and the beautiful ambience of the hotel; from all the detailed corners, the pretty and clean rooms, the wonderful wellness area, the wide range of leisure activities and wellness treatments... But this hotel is so much more. I would like to tell you about the moments that made this time out so special for us. We experienced many heartfelt moments: This was the first time I galloped freely and I will never forget it! Our daughter Betty can finally swim - she swam through the entire pool alone for the first time. But the encounters with the people in the hotel also touched our hearts. All the staff are so friendly and warm, whether at the reception, in the restaurant, in the stable or in the farm shop. Anna from the farm shop told me a nice story about the hotel manager, Mr. Weiß. By chance, Mr. Weiss gave me a gift for our daughter shortly afterwards, just like that. Thank you very much! ♡ I would particularly like to mention the riding instructor Doro. Her friendly, calm manner immediately makes you feel comfortable and in good hands. She also has a great feel for people and immediately noticed what we could work on. A fantastic wellness hotel, everything just fits. As soon as you arrive you immediately feel relaxed. The infusions in every sauna are great and you just have to experience them. The rooms and the food are just great.

We were there for the second time. The sauna area is wonderful. However, the ice fountain, which helps prevent headaches after a sauna session, is missing. Otherwise, I hardly know of a better sauna. The calm background music everywhere is also great and creates a good atmosphere. The sauna masters strive to ensure good and longer infusions. Therefore you can really enjoy the infusions here. A big problem that we noticed last time is that lounger reservations are barely checked. You could put some shelves and hooks on the wall and have one or two employees clean up every now and then. This may not be easy to implement as everyone has the same coats and towels and it's hard to tell which belongs to whom. The existing room number pins were a good idea. Maybe something like this could be expanded so that the staff can clean up the towels from unused loungers. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, but I had a bad experience. At dinner, I accidentally picked up a tea glass from the buffet to drink hot water. This was allowed at breakfast and lunch, so I thought I could have the glass at dinner too. However, that wasn't the case. As soon as I tried to take a glass, an older waitress came and grabbed my hand roughly. Then she told me I wasn't allowed to use it at dinner. Why did she have to grab my hand so roughly? You could just say that. I think that's pretty rude and it ruined my evening mood. If this action is so disruptive to the staff, you could simply put up a sign saying "Please do not touch here" or something similar.

We had a relaxing time in Bayerwaldhof. The size, the peace, the great infusions and much more convinced us to come back!

We spent our first vacation here at Christmas 2023. We canceled our actual plans for February and May and are back at the Bayerwaldhof. The warmth, the furnishings of both the rooms and the wellness area and the fantastic food set standards that our previous favorite hotels cannot keep up with... The next 3 stays here in the house have already been reserved.

A wonderful wellness area that leaves nothing to be desired

I have been traveling to the Bayerwaldhof for many years and have always been very satisfied. Three things happened on my last wellness vacation that made me have a lot of doubts. At dinner the main course was only served after asking and there was a very long wait. Dessert was forgotten. At the last breakfast my daughter went back to the room (but we hadn't checked out yet) and was not very kindly informed that the room had already been cleaned. That was at 9:45 a.m. When paying on the last day, as always, I wanted a locker key so I could go back to the wellness area. Then I was informed that this was no longer possible. I don't think it's good that this isn't communicated to you at check-in on the day of arrival. You then plan your departure day completely differently. Elke Hofrichter

Everything perfect, no complaints

The hotel is wonderful. We had an attractive room in the new section. The wellness landscape is very inviting. In the spa area, especially with the infusions, it's just fun. The only thing I found unpleasant is that you notice the issue of staff in the bar area. In my opinion, good service always includes friendly communication, which I unfortunately missed with the bartender. Unfortunately, this diminished the very valuable and positive impression. We will definitely come back and then there will be another chance for 5 stars.

We were given a really nice and warm welcome, everything was explained in detail. The welcome champagne was very good. We were allowed to go straight to the afternoon snack. The room was just great and very clean. Like all areas of the hotel! The view over the complex and the hilly landscape behind it - beautiful. And yes, the location is of course a bit out of the way, but it is quiet and therefore simply perfect for wellness. (By the way, there are also plenty of parking spaces available.) The bed was almost a little too hard for me, although I generally like that, but it's better than too soft! :-) The hotel is also not noisy, I found it to be very quiet. We were given a fresh bottle of water in the room every day. The selection at all buffets couldn't be better: the breakfast buffet, salad and cake buffet (and also a few warm dishes) in the afternoon and salad and starter buffet in the evening. And everything is always excellent (including the food served)! Because someone actually wrote that the food wasn't warm and the portions served were small: sometimes the food at the buffet was actually lukewarm. Unfortunately, that happens relatively quickly. It didn't bother us. The temperature of the courses served was always good. Not too hot and not too cold. The portions are actually sometimes not huge. But that may be because you can really help yourself to plenty from the buffet (even cheese after dinner) and there are always several courses. Well, we never got up hungry... quite the opposite! The service here was always very friendly. Sometimes something took a little longer, but never TOO long. I'm writing this here now because it was like that and not as a criticism, because it didn't bother us at all, after all you have time here!! We also enjoyed the cocktails. The wellness areas are very nicely designed and we had no problems with space in the saunas and relaxation rooms. We liked the new part a little better because it is more open. The walk there outside didn't bother us. There is water, juices and tea everywhere. If the water is too cold for you, you can add hot water from the Quooker - problem solved! ;-) The teas weren't to my taste, but that's very individual. We thought it was great that there were infusions. I also think it's great that fitness courses are offered. In general, the new fitness studio is really great! The only thing I found a bit unfortunate was that there isn't really a pool to swim in (the natural pool or pond was a bit too cold for me to stay in for longer at this time of year). Unfortunately, the indoor pools are not big enough for this. Oh yes, the bathrobes were comfortable (we got along well with the sizes that were in the rooms) and towels were already available upon arrival and you always got plenty of fresh ones in your room. I have something else that could perhaps be the icing on the cake: I think it would be very nice if every guest got their own "cuddly" blanket in their sauna bag. :-) Our massages were also great, the spa area is also very nice and the people are friendly. Personally I think it's really close to "perfect"!! The feeling of being welcome and that you can really clear your head and have a good time here is worth every euro. We'll definitely be back!

Our regular wellness hotel, we relax there from everyday life at least once a year. Rooms very nicely decorated and very clean. The wellness area is more than great, we haven't found another hotel that can keep up with it. The food is super delicious, you can always find something in the menu selection. All employees are committed to ensuring a pleasant stay.

You arrive and immediately feel at home. All employees, whether at the reception or in service, are always friendly and helpful and do everything they can to fulfill the guest's wishes. The food is very varied and incredibly good. There is something for every taste. We'd love to come back. Thanks to the great management of the house

Perfect! I can do without any vacation anywhere else, but not the annual visit here!

This hotel is just amazing. The whole ambience and the constant care far exceeds the number of stars. We will be back definitely.

Best hotel to relax, unwind and feel good. Everything just fits there. Was here for the first time this year and I don't know how many times and it was, as always, crazy. It's always like coming home.

The atmosphere is beautiful, the staff is very attentive and friendly. The food is very rich and great. The wellness area is very nice and also quiet. Really great for relaxing
