A wonderful little restaurant and wine bar. The food is exquisite and delicious, something truly special. It's great that you can choose between small and regular portions. A fantastic selection of non-alcoholic drinks. Not just the usual soft drinks, but also non-alcoholic wines and sparkling wine. A real discovery for me.

A very good and well-organized menu selection. The wine list leaves nothing to be desired. The food—we had salmon and lamb—was generously portioned and tasted excellent. The only thing is that the outdoor ambiance, right on a quiet street, might not be to everyone's taste.

A great little place. The food is refined and the atmosphere is cozy. A great example of "sometimes less is more." A small, yet sophisticated, changing menu. Few tables mean there's no rush. Time for each individual and attention to detail. We'd be happy to return!

Four of us ate here for the first time on July 25, 2025. The whole concept is simply fantastic: delicious, fresh food and a good selection of wines. I especially like the fact that they offer small portions of all starters and main courses. The service was very attentive and friendly. We'll be back; making a reservation is definitely a good idea!

An Exceptional Evening at "Herr Schaefer" – A Culinary Gem in Bremen’s “Viertel” Yesterday evening, my wife and I had the pleasure of returning to a familiar favorite: Herr Schaefer, a small and highly regarded restaurant tucked away on a quiet side street in Bremen’s culturally vibrant district known as das Viertel. Having dined there on several occasions in the past, we knew to expect quality—but this latest visit once again surpassed our expectations. Given the restaurant’s intimate size and well-earned popularity, securing a table typically requires planning ahead and leaving a reservation request via voicemail. We reached out on short notice and, unsurprisingly, were initially informed that the evening was fully booked. But in a stroke of luck—and thanks to the personal attention of the owner, Mr. Schaefer himself—we received a return call informing us of a last-minute cancellation. That gesture alone reflects the personal commitment and warmth that defines this establishment. Upon arrival, we were greeted cordially and seated at one of the charming outdoor tables. Our culinary journey began with a rosé Cava, crisp and refreshing. The starters set a high bar: – “Boquerones al Mimosa” – marinated anchovy fillets prepared with subtlety and finesse, delivering a delicate balance of acidity and umami. – Marinated Duroc Pork Skewers with Chimichurri – remarkably tender with a fragrant, herbaceous dip that complemented the richness of the pork beautifully. The standout, however, was the main course: – Red Curry of Heidschnucke (a regional Moorland sheep), served with baby spinach, chickpeas, and basmati rice. This dish was a triumph—aromatic, gently spiced, and deeply flavorful without being overpowering. The use of Heidschnucke brought a distinctly regional identity to an otherwise internationally inspired preparation. To accompany the main, we enjoyed a bottle of 2022 Alte Reben Wurzelecht Riesling from Weingut Villa Huesgen (Mosel). This dry Riesling offered just the right minerality and structure to round out the dish—an inspired pairing. In summary, Herr Schaefer remains a shining example of what a small, independent restaurant can offer: personal hospitality, thoughtfully composed dishes, and a deep connection to both regional ingredients and international culinary inspiration. Highly recommended—for locals and visitors alike.

Great food, great service, great wine Highly recommended

We were here for the first time four years ago and now for the second time. Since we were so impressed with the food and service in 2021, we made reservations again and were more than satisfied again today. On our next trip to Bremen, we'll be back to see Mr. Schäfer. We had a very nice Saturday evening there. There is only a small map. At least that was enough for me and I immediately found something suitable. My companions felt the same way. The wine selection is even larger. The service was also very friendly and quick. All in all it was a lovely evening in a cozy atmosphere. Thanks.

A truly excellent restaurant with a changing menu and entirely homemade dishes. The taste is the most important thing here, as you can taste the homemade creation in every fiber, which is definitely due to the carefully selected ingredients. Kudos to the chef and the menu developers. You're truly bringing light to the German restaurant scene in times of Celona-frozen-franchise craze. Thanks also for the truly attentive service, which was always friendly and keen to understand the guests' wishes. Even questions about dishes are explained in detail how they are made, where the ingredients come from, and of course, there was plenty of chat in the Bremen style. A small point deduction is for the ambiance, especially the decor. It still seems a bit random compared to the carefully selected menu. Furthermore, the prices are a bit overpriced for the amount of food served, with a choice of large or small portions. All in all, though, a wonderful restaurant with truly good food and a friendly atmosphere. Clear recommendation ✨

Mr. Schaefer in the Steintor district of Bremen impresses with a cozy atmosphere and an excellent selection of wines. The food is of excellent quality, regional, sustainable and organic. The small selection of dishes ensures a clear, focused menu, and the ability to choose between two portion sizes is handy for varying appetites. Particularly worth mentioning is the attentive staff, which rounds off the evening perfectly. Highly recommended!

Insider tip for the Bremen district!

Were there for the first time last Saturday. Overall, a great restaurant/bistro with very, very tasty food and great wines and aperitifs. The service was exceptionally nice, courteous and warm, rarely experienced like this. Only the ambience and the light still have some room for improvement, otherwise really perfect, many thanks to the team!

Went to see Mr. Schäfer today with two friends for the first time, and certainly not for the last. Great, delicious and creative food, delicious wines. The red cabbage meatball was a blast! The menu changes weekly. Very nice boss, you immediately feel “at home”. Are you looking forward to the menu for next week? We'd love to come back!

Simply great, always unusual and creative, high-quality cuisine (Tommy “always knocks it out”), great owner, a really great service team that also works when the boss isn't in the house (thanks, Eske and Doreen)! Very excellent wine advice (which unfortunately we can't really enjoy because we have to drive, but the long journey is worth it), the so-called "small portion" option is particularly great if you want to enjoy several courses. Ein rund um schöner Abend bei tollem Service, lecker Essen und feinen Getränken.

Wer noch das “Schwarze Schaf” kennt wird hier auch begeistert sein. Es ist sogar noch besser. Tolles Essen, passende Weine, super freundliche Bedienung und die Option alle Speisen in klein und normal zu bekommen. So kommt man auch sehr gern immer wieder! Bis bald!

Ein perfekter Abend: sehr sehr nette und aufmerksame Bedienung, toller Koch, qualitativ hochwertiges Essen, sehr fein abgestimmt. Super Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Gute Weine zu guten Preisen. Bestes Restaurant in Bremen! Ich liebe die abwechslungsreiche Küche, dass es jede Woche neue Gerichte gibt, dass Gemüse hier ein Highlight ist und es trotzdem Fleisch gibt. Zudem liebe ich, dass es alle Gerichte in klein und groß gibt - unabhängig ob man Rentnerin oder Kind ist! Zudem ist der Service großartig, alle Extrawünsche werden erfüllt und alles lädt zum Verweilen ein. Dieses wunderbare lokal ist ein echter Geheimtipp!

Kleines schickes Restaurant mit exzellenter Weinauswahl. Wobei es lustig ist, denn ursprünglich sind wir wegen der Weine zu Herrn Schäfer gegangen, da wir ein Weinlokal/ Bistro suchten. Doch dann merkten wir wie großartig die Küche ist. Regionale der Jahreszeit entsprechenden Produkte und der absolute Clou- alle Gerichte können auch als "kleine" Portion bestellt werden. Klein ist relativ, schafft aber Platz um noch weitere Speisen zu probieren:) Service ist super freundlich, authentisch und fachlich exzellent. Zurück zu den Weinen- super Auswahl, für Bremen absolut herausragend. Spirituosen auch absolut empfehlenswert. Unser erster Besuch ist mittlerweile drei Jahre her, und bislang wurden wir noch nie enttäuscht. Wir freuen uns schon auf dem nächsten Besuch.

Wir waren heute wieder einmal bei Jens. Es war ein wunderbarer Abend. Das Essen ist einfach immer etwas Besonderes. Die Atmosphäre ist entspannt, freundlich und kommunikativ. Der Service lässt nichts zu wünschen übrig. Wir kommen immer gerne wieder.

Tolles Essen und Ambiente, eine sehr umfangreiche Weinkarte und ein Gastwirt, der sich auskennt. Alle Gerichte werden in zwei Größen serviert, so dass man selber entscheiden kann, ob man Einen oder mehrere Gänge wählt. Wir freuen uns schon auf den nächsten Besuch, wenn wir wieder in Bremen sind!

Toller Abend in einem schönen kleinen Restaurant. Die übersichtliche kleine Speisekarte hat für jeden Geschmack etwas zu bieten. Wir hatten jeweils eine Vorspeise sowie ein Hauptgericht. Auf Grund der zwei Größen, also kleinere oder größere Portion fühlten wir uns gut aufgehoben. Das Essen war geschmacklich klasse, frisch zubereitet mit frischen Kräutern und Gewürzen. Das Brot war ebenfalls super, und wohl selbst gebacken. Der Service war immer präsent jedoch nicht aufdringlich. Auch die Weinempfehlung hat gepasst, somit haben wir uns rundherum Wohlgefühls.

Gemütlicher Geheimtipp im Viertel. Häufig wechselnde und clevere Karte mit verschiedenen Portionsgrößen und ein tolles Angebot an guten Weinen. Gutes Platzangebot im Restaurant oder bei gutem Wetter im Freien. Hier wird Dienstleistung und gutes Essen noch groß geschrieben.

Herr Schaefer bezeichnet sein Lokal selber als Bistro und Weinbar. Bistromäßig ist nur die Größe. Die Küche ist viel besser. Die Karte enthält meistens nur 3 Hauptgerichte, die dafür dann aber 14tägig wechseln. Als Viertelbewohner kommen wir immer wieder.

Lecker. Klein. Gemütlich. Vielleicht ein bisschen zu dicht besetzt, aber Herr Schäfer ist ein zuvorkommender Gastgeber.

Gemütlich, freundlich, sehr gutes Essen. Ich hatte Schweinefilets mit prima Sosse und tollem Gemüse der Saison, davor Matjestartar: besonders lecker. Als Appetizer gab es Linsensalat. Insgesamt reichliche Portion von sehr guter Qualität in rustikalem Ambiente. Genügend Platz zum essen, sitzen und klönen.
