Hellas Grill Restaurant in Wuppertal

I got two Margherita pizzas today, they were simply disgusting. I've never eaten such a disgusting pizza. It's a wonder it didn't jump out of the box. All the cheese was stale, the pizza wasn't even cooked through properly; it was still alive. Not even my dog ​​wanted to eat it. So don't go there, it's a disaster.

We've always loved eating at Hellas. Today we ordered gyros again. One with Metaxa sauce and one with tzatziki. Both portions were almost entirely fat. They weren't seasoned properly and some of the meat was white. We were really disappointed, as we were so looking forward to the meal. We probably won't be going back.

Very tasty food. Good portion and the service was great. The store was nice with Greek atmosphere. Soft Greek music but not so loud. It was very good.

Ordered from there via Uber Eats. Baked gyro with fries. Unfortunately, the metaxa sauce was completely tasteless and more like a curry sauce. It didn't give me the impression that the dish had been cooked for even a minute. The taste was really disappointing; I also think the meat wasn't cooked all the way through. It's a real shame, as there are definitely better Greek restaurants in the valley!

We spontaneously stopped by Hellas last week. I've known the place since I was a child and have always been very satisfied. But this time I'd especially like to highlight the service. It was very good this time. The waitress was very good, kept an eye on everything despite the restaurant being full, and was extremely friendly and helpful. This is perfect guest service.

Unfortunately, I have to say that I haven't enjoyed it as much since the change of ownership. We've been going to this restaurant for almost 30 years, maybe even longer, and it's a shame. My food hasn't been good several times. One time, the cevapcici wasn't cooked well, and today they were so dry. If you speak up early enough, you'll get new food. I also think the portions are way too big. Most of the time, you can't finish it, and I think it's a shame that it gets thrown away. Maybe less, and you can ask for more.

It used to be a top restaurant, but unfortunately it has declined considerably over the years.

No words, the salad bar is already being cleared out around 8:15 p.m., at least right now. I ordered a dish for which I actually paid €9.50 about 10 days ago, and just 10 minutes ago, suddenly, it was €14.50. The price has dropped significantly. It's a shame about the business; if nothing happens, the lovely grill will be closed in another year. Also, the cold chain has been broken, and the salad is sitting somewhere at the counter instead of in the cold storage room. That was the LAST TIME, but still a great success, just not under new management. No words 😱 😱

We were here today for the first time in a long time, and after several disappointing visits and orders, we were satisfied with the restaurant today. The service and food were good, but the place could benefit from a modernization or renovation. Furthermore, the portions are too large. I would like smaller portions with a corresponding price adjustment.

We order from here every now and then via Uber Eats, and lately the gyro has been absolutely delicious. Whatever changes you've made to the marinade/seasonings have been fantastic. The fries are always nice and crispy, even when they're delivered.

Unfortunately, the food wasn't that great... the fries tasted weird... the mayo and meat were flavorless... and for that price, no coleslaw. It happens sometimes, and that's just my impression... I picked it up after 10 p.m.

Once, and unfortunately never again. I opted for a plate of gyros. When ordering, I specifically stated that I wanted the gyros nice and brown and crispy. Unfortunately, my request was completely ignored! The meat was almost white and in some places it wasn't even cooked! It didn't taste good at all. It wasn't as if the place was packed, meaning the gyros skewer barely had a chance to rest. Quite the opposite – the place was almost empty. Furthermore, the portion size was quite modest for a Greek restaurant. And at €17.50, it wasn't exactly cheap. This will be the last time I go there.

I haven't been here in a while...so the comparison is stark. I always loved the minced meat rolls, but now they're just small rolls, about 30-40% less meat than before, and the price is also 30-40% higher. I know everything has gotten more expensive, but unfortunately, it didn't taste as good anymore. The only consolation was the generous amount of fries. Sorry guys, it's unfortunately not as good as it used to be...

Yesterday, I took a lunch break at Hellas. Ordered a gyro pita. It came quickly, but unfortunately, it was nothing. The meat was barely seasoned and simply tasted bland. The tzatziki tasted like crème fraîche, which was absolutely disgusting. This place used to be great. As a tradesman, I travel a lot, and sorry, this was my last visit.

We got some food. The gyro was delicious, and so was the tzatziki. With the spinach pizza, we noticed that they used seasoned spinach (leaf spinach seasoned with onions) and not plain leaf spinach. I had to take the spinach off the pizza; it was simply inedible for me. The pizza would have been great with regular leaf spinach.

Bought a gyro plate yesterday. It was fantastic, and the price was great too. I highly recommend Hellas.

Price-performance ratio has declined enormously

It's very rare these days that we eat out at all. We used to come here a lot when we were younger. Due to family circumstances, I've been here three times, including today. The pizza is perfectly fine for a Greek-style restaurant. The gyro plate, the gypsy schnitzel, and the small robber's plate – all far better than in some previous reviews. The French fries are exceptionally fine and crispy – the freshness of the side salad was better than in some of the more highly praised restaurants in Wuppertal. I don't know whether there were any problems immediately after the change of ownership. I can only recommend everyone to form their own opinion. I wish the current owner all the best – keep up the good work 👍

Since the sale/takeover, it's nothing like it used to be. I've been coming to Hellas Grill for 25 years, but now it's over... The quality of the food has declined dramatically compared to the previous owner.

We ate there for my husband's birthday for the first time in a while! The service was very nice and attentive, but there seems to be a two-tiered society. The neighboring tables get ouzo on the house, not just a round, but we don't! I've been coming with my parents for as long as I can remember. The prices don't match the menu, and unfortunately, the food was missing spices! The pork fillet was perfectly cooked, but it's a shame they came with frozen broccoli! Unfortunately, it's off our list for now... (again)

Currywurst with fries and mayo and a Coke

Hello! This goes out to the owners last year in May 2024. We were in Wuppertal visiting a friend last evening. Because we are absolute Greece fans, we thought we'd go there for dinner. Bad, it couldn't be worse. The older waiters didn't even offer a friendly welcome. Nothing. The menu was carelessly thrown halfway onto the table. The food took forever. The souvlaki was unchewable, and the meat in a cream sauce was warmed up in the microwave. When I asked if it was good, I told this listless waiter that it was the worst Greek food we've ever eaten. His only reply was a very dry "Then we'd like to go somewhere else." How can you drag the country's typical cuisine through the mud like that? As I said, there should be new owners now. Sorry. Do better. 😉

The Metaxa gyro was okay. The rice was quite good. But the price/performance ratio was so-so.

It's divided into a snack bar (front) and a restaurant (back). The snack bar has limited seating, while the restaurant has more, but it's sometimes quite dark. The food was prepared quickly, tasted good, and was plentiful, so you could really fill yourself up.

Fantastic!!! Extremely good fries (I'm Belgian, from the country where fries originated). The chef and his team are excellent and cater to allergies. Great value for money. It's a shame we live so far away. We were given a free drink and a side of fries at the end. Absolutely outstanding! Great conversation with the owner.

I went to Hellas Grill for the first time since the change of ownership and was thrilled! The pizza is even better than before, dough crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, very good taste. Maybe there were problems a few months ago when starting over, but today everything was perfect and I'm happy to keep coming back!

The quality has absolutely deteriorated and we simply don't like it there anymore. We often ordered takeaway. The only plus point is that it can be picked up quickly. But unfortunately that's all. It's a shame actually...

In a Greek restaurant, Turkish is predominantly spoken at the front of the line. That doesn't work at all!!! What a shame about the store! It's probably because of the new Turkish owners.

We have been regulars for about 20 years and usually come every week. Unfortunately, nothing has worked for us since the takeover. The food is no longer beautifully presented, it looks more like in a canteen. Unfortunately it doesn't taste good anymore either. The waiter first brought the wrong wine, then the mayonnaise was forgotten and my salad only came when asked. The ouzo that we usually got before and after was completely missing. When we picked up the plates we were surprised that there was so much left and we said that it wasn't to our satisfaction, nothing was said. This was our last attempt, we will change our weekly restaurant. I hope that the new operator takes this criticism to heart and changes something.

I was a guest at Hellas for years but saw a lot on my last visit. It started when an employee came in after smoking outside, didn't wash his hands and then worked with food. The gentleman who prepared the pizza also checked the register in between without washing his hands or using gloves. I got a free hair on the fries I bought.

I have been eating at Hellas regularly for over 25 years. Never again. Waited almost 50 minutes for the food and then the pizzas were swapped. My wife wanted a small pizza and I wanted a large pizza. We got everything the other way around, even though there wasn't that much going on in the store. The service didn't keep an eye on or control anything. Since Spiro and Manolo no longer work there, people can forget about the shop. It's a shame, but I don't recommend it. 🤷‍♂️

Rarely have I experienced such good service. We were served by the boss himself. He was extremely attentive. While taking the order, he even asked if the background music was pleasant or too loud. We got a raki on the house in advance. NOT a given - I think - but a very nice gesture that we appreciate! Every now and then we were asked whether we were satisfied. It was completely unobtrusive and exactly to the extent that some other restaurants can learn from! Grade 1+ for the service. The food was also great. I had a gyro plate. The portion was large. Everyone will be more than full there. The gyro meat was great, as were the fries. You can taste that the tzatziki is homemade with good spices and lots of garlic - delicious. There was also coleslaw. Nothing was convenient, nothing out of the box! You can have what you didn't manage to eat packed up without any problems. We'd love to come back. We like Hellas under the new management! Keep it up!

I had the pleasure of eating at this wonderful Greek restaurant and it was an absolute highlight! From the moment we walked in we were warmly welcomed and immediately felt welcome. The staff is incredibly friendly, courteous and attentive - you can tell that every guest is treated with a lot of love and dedication. The food was simply to die for! Every dish was fresh, delicious and prepared with a lot of love. We were particularly impressed by the pizzas and the gyros plate - as authentic and full of flavor as you can only expect in a real Greek restaurant. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, the service quick but not intrusive. You can tell that value is placed on quality and satisfaction here. I will definitely be back and highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to experience not only great food but also outstanding service! A true gem in the city!

After seeing the exorbitantly increased prices of the menu, we left the restaurant and went to a provider with good price/performance ratio. Things used to be okay here and the food was good.

It's a shame about the completely dissatisfied visit. This has nothing at all in common with the “old” Hellas. Despite a complaint, the wrong dish was served and three times too much was charged. After a complaint it was paid back. It was a completely chaotic visit. Has nothing to do with the “old” Hellas.

Oh, good old HELLAS. First the soul of the restaurant went with our long-time favorite waiter Manolis, then came the change of ownership. We didn't have high hopes that there would be much left of the 'old' Hellas in the new year... the warmth, the personal atmosphere, the always good atmosphere and always full hut, the reliably good food, the seemingly never-ending ouzo -Electricity, the seasonally adjusted decoration in the restaurant, the somehow old-fashioned but therefore typical and beloved furnishings... Our wish would have been that nothing would ever change here. Especially in times when a lot of things are changing (and not just for the better), Hellas has always been a kind of rock in the surf and a haven of reliability. It is now January 2025. On the positive side, at first glance nothing has actually changed. The Hellas welcomes you as friendly and professional as ever, many of the team are still there, the menu is still immaculately clean, self-confident, extensive and with new, interesting wines and food recommendations every month. The prices don't seem to have increased noticeably either. As usual, the guest is served the free ouzo with the drinks ordered. Everything could be as beautiful as always... ...until the food comes. And this is where the obvious change becomes clear: the portion sizes! What happened here? The (still) delicious oven feta for 8 euros, which was ALWAYS part of our order - how much do you want to reduce the capacity of this oval dish? Now only the ground is barely covered. Will we soon be able to see the bottom of the bowl? For my sake, please increase the price by one or two euros, but don't give the guest a child's portion! The same phenomenon occurred with the so-called 'small combination'. The previously perfect selection of three types of tzatziki and cheese creams has given way to three measly mini blobs, which even on the small plate still seem like a bad joke. The silly lettuce leaf and the pale piece of tomato also reinforce the impression that massive savings have been made here. Very annoying, and -sorry- actually unworthy of Hellas. This 'Bomba', in itself an interesting type of calzone with salad and various fillings, does not seem to have been fully thought out in its implementation and is presented a bit carelessly, especially since the additional fillings offered for an additional charge (e.g. tuna for €4.50) increase the basic price of over €10. In terms of taste, the 'Bomba' is okay, but not a revelation. Here I would personally recommend the 'Greco' pizza with garlic, tomatoes and sheep's cheese. The pizzas in Hellas have never been cheap, but at least the 'Greco' that I recommended always impressed me. Please let it stay that way and not change the quantity or quality spiral! The Hellas would be well advised not to carelessly jeopardize its decades-long good reputation and not to lose out in the long term with its (still remarkably numerous) regular guests.

Were there this afternoon at 1 p.m., the dining room in the back was freezing cold, everyone was sitting there in jackets. We ordered Giro plate, the Giro plate was dry and hard. The side dishes were OK. 41 € for 2 Giro plates and 1 coke and 1 tea is already very steep for a better chip shop. They won't see me there anymore.

A Saturday evening at 8 p.m. and the restaurant has a free choice of tables? A waiter who doesn't know what a souvlaki is? All alarm bells should have been ringing for me! The food was loveless (salad without dressing, fries cover 80% of the plate, souvlaki the size of my fingertip and dry that you choke on) what happened here? Where is the Hellas that we have been used to for decades? Where do you like to go with friends for a delicious meal? When you ask and point out the price-performance situation, you get the response “It’s always been like that!” Where is the hospitality, the closeness to the guest? We definitely won't be coming back and the capacity of the restaurant on a Saturday evening speaks for itself. Hellas as we know it no longer exists. It's a shame because it was always an institution

The first Greek place I left hungry! There were three of us there and wanted to experience a classic Greek. I ordered a classic gyro plate with fries and tzatziki and a spezi. The meat itself was ok, but the size of the gyro portion was a joke and at best worthy of a children's plate. Approximately twice as many fries were served in relation to the meat. The waiter also seems to have been an old friend of ours, otherwise I can't explain why we were called by our first names without being asked. Ok for a snack bar, rather unusual for the restaurant business in my opinion. There was no ouzo to welcome or end the meal. Even in between, none of the waiters showed up to ask if there was anything else to drink. I always ask myself at this point, don't you want to sell the additional drinks? Don't you want the guest to order more? After the meal it was cleared away and we shared our criticism of the food. Some of the answers were: “The portions have always been so big” My friend's dry souvlaki was answered: “Yes, that could be the case, then it was a little too long” 😂 Compensation? An offer of reparation? None. The waitress walked away and didn't even ask if we wanted to pay but also didn't ask if we could have anything else. We then got up, took our things and went to the counter to ask for the bill to be paid. This was clearly seen, so my “old friend” approached us with the EC device. I said I would like to pay up front. The answer I got was “yes, I don’t care, you can do it.” A total of 69 euros for three people with fairly small portions and poor service.

So if it's expensive then you want to be full. But that's not the case. We'll avoid this restaurant again.

We had long since given up hope of finding acceptable snacks because the quality had deteriorated significantly in recent years. In October we gave Hellas another chance and lo and behold - it tastes good again. After 3 more attempts the result was confirmed. This is probably due to the new tenant, who is really making an effort and has brought the quality back to a good level. I hope it stays that way or improves even further, then we'll be happy to come back more often. Our meat-loving sons are also excited again.

In itself it's okay, what's not possible is such expensive prices for mini portions. We had 1 schnitzel with fries and salad and paid around €16 for it, where the schnitzel was really small. The children's plate was fine and everything was right. However, the currywurst with fries and salad for around €12 wasn't really much and was more like a children's plate.

Unfortunately no longer recommended after the change of ownership. The food is no longer of the usual quality and the service is very slow. We would therefore no longer come back.

Seit 40 Jahren sind wir immer gerne in den Hellas Grill gegangen, aber heute war es das letzte Mal. Beim Betreten des Grills fiel uns sofort auf, dass es für die Uhrzeit (18 Uhr) relativ leer war. Als nächstes haben wir uns über die deutlich gestiegenen Preise gewundert, aber ok, alles ist halt teurer geworden… Auch der übliche Ouzo aufs Haus bei Aufnahme der Bestellung wurde nicht mehr gereicht. Das Essen war ‚ok‘, aber irgendwie war alles nicht so wie wir es kannten, im vorderen Bestellbereich herrschte gähnende Leere auch die Stimmung war anders… Sehr schade :-(

We always enjoyed going here, unfortunately the food isn't as good as it used to be. On the Pizza Diabolo Servelatwurst instead of spicy salami, but a foreign hair. Salad dressing instead of yogurt with mayomaise, and the eater very little seasoning. The service was rather lackluster, there was no cutlery and one fork was completely bent. It's a shame, I hope they find their way back to their old form

Years ago it was good. But had dinner there with friends today, well the pizza didn't taste very good. But when my wife took the food she had not completely eaten with her, she was seriously charged 1.50 euros for packing it up. I've never experienced anything like that and find it very outrageous, as the same dishes are sold at the front of the snack bar for significantly less, and there even without any packaging calculation. For me, the restaurant is not recommended. I won't eat there again either

Very disappointing. I have known this restaurant for 40 years with different owners. Today I was back for the first time in two years, the conclusion is that prices are up, quality and quantity are down. The Hellas fish platter contained a small piece of fish. As promised, nothing was grilled. The calamari was fried, the fish was fried and the scampis were not grilled. Overall really disappointing, we won't be going back here. too bad.
