The food has always been good for over 40 years.

We usually order something to take away. Even after all these years, the prices are still very fair, the selection is huge and the food is prepared in record time. The quality has been consistently good for many years, so it's always worth a visit!

Highly recommended, authentic Greek cuisine. Very nice and courteous service. Really delicious!

The Hellas with its family atmosphere is easy to recommend. The portions are plentiful and the price-performance ratio is good. In addition to the restaurant, there is also a pick-up service. But you should take the time to eat on site.

Food was pretty good. The service was a solid five. After the food was served, the waitress was no longer seen. The oyso after dinner is canceled. The prices 4.30 for a cola....... Thank you. No, we'd rather go back to Uncle Ludwig's.

Oh, good old HELLAS. First the soul of the restaurant went with our long-time favorite waiter Manolis, then came the change of ownership. We didn't have high hopes that there would be much left of the 'old' Hellas in the new year... the warmth, the personal atmosphere, the always good atmosphere and always full hut, the reliably good food, the seemingly never-ending ouzo -Electricity, the seasonally adjusted decoration in the restaurant, the somehow old-fashioned but therefore typical and beloved furnishings... Our wish would have been that nothing would ever change here. Especially in times when a lot of things are changing (and not just for the better), Hellas has always been a kind of rock in the surf and a haven of reliability. It is now January 2025. On the positive side, at first glance nothing has actually changed. The Hellas welcomes you as friendly and professional as ever, many of the team are still there, the menu is still immaculately clean, self-confident, extensive and with new, interesting wines and food recommendations every month. The prices don't seem to have increased noticeably either. As usual, the guest is served the free ouzo with the drinks ordered. Everything could be as beautiful as always... ...until the food comes. And this is where the obvious change becomes clear: the portion sizes! What happened here? The (still) delicious oven feta for 8 euros, which was ALWAYS part of our order - how much do you want to reduce the capacity of this oval dish? Now only the ground is barely covered. Will we soon be able to see the bottom of the bowl? For my sake, please increase the price by one or two euros, but don't give the guest a child's portion! The same phenomenon occurred with the so-called 'small combination'. The previously perfect selection of three types of tzatziki and cheese creams has given way to three measly mini blobs, which even on the small plate still seem like a bad joke. The silly lettuce leaf and the pale piece of tomato also reinforce the impression that massive savings have been made here. Very annoying, and -sorry- actually unworthy of Hellas. This 'Bomba', in itself an interesting type of calzone with salad and various fillings, does not seem to have been fully thought out in its implementation and is presented a bit carelessly, especially since the additional fillings offered for an additional charge (e.g. tuna for €4.50) increase the basic price of over €10. In terms of taste, the 'Bomba' is okay, but not a revelation. Here I would personally recommend the 'Greco' pizza with garlic, tomatoes and sheep's cheese. The pizzas in Hellas have never been cheap, but at least the 'Greco' that I recommended always impressed me. Please let it stay that way and not change the quantity or quality spiral! The Hellas would be well advised not to carelessly jeopardize its decades-long good reputation and not to lose out in the long term with its (still remarkably numerous) regular guests.

We were there for dinner with 12 people and it was impeccable, quick and friendly. Thank you ☺️

Were there this afternoon at 1 p.m., the dining room in the back was freezing cold, everyone was sitting there in jackets. We ordered Giro plate, the Giro plate was dry and hard. The side dishes were OK. 41 € for 2 Giro plates and 1 coke and 1 tea is already very steep for a better chip shop. They won't see me there anymore.

So if it's expensive then you want to be full. But that's not the case. We'll avoid this restaurant again.

The first Greek place I left hungry! There were three of us there and wanted to experience a classic Greek. I ordered a classic gyro plate with fries and tzatziki and a spezi. The meat itself was ok, but the size of the gyro portion was a joke and at best worthy of a children's plate. Approximately twice as many fries were served in relation to the meat. The waiter also seems to have been an old friend of ours, otherwise I can't explain why we were called by our first names without being asked. Ok for a snack bar, rather unusual for the restaurant business in my opinion. There was no ouzo to welcome or end the meal. Even in between, none of the waiters showed up to ask if there was anything else to drink. I always ask myself at this point, don't you want to sell the additional drinks? Don't you want the guest to order more? After the meal it was cleared away and we shared our criticism of the food. Some of the answers were: “The portions have always been so big” My friend's dry souvlaki was answered: “Yes, that could be the case, then it was a little too long” 😂 Compensation? An offer of reparation? None. The waitress walked away and didn't even ask if we wanted to pay but also didn't ask if we could have anything else. We then got up, took our things and went to the counter to ask for the bill to be paid. This was clearly seen, so my “old friend” approached us with the EC device. I said I would like to pay up front. The answer I got was “yes, I don’t care, you can do it.” A total of 69 euros for three people with fairly small portions and poor service.

A Saturday evening at 8 p.m. and the restaurant has a free choice of tables? A waiter who doesn't know what a souvlaki is? All alarm bells should have been ringing for me! The food was loveless (salad without dressing, fries cover 80% of the plate, souvlaki the size of my fingertip and dry that you choke on) what happened here? Where is the Hellas that we have been used to for decades? Where do you like to go with friends for a delicious meal? When you ask and point out the price-performance situation, you get the response “It’s always been like that!” Where is the hospitality, the closeness to the guest? We definitely won't be coming back and the capacity of the restaurant on a Saturday evening speaks for itself. Hellas as we know it no longer exists. It's a shame because it was always an institution

We had long since given up hope of finding acceptable snacks because the quality had deteriorated significantly in recent years. In October we gave Hellas another chance and lo and behold - it tastes good again. After 3 more attempts the result was confirmed. This is probably due to the new tenant, who is really making an effort and has brought the quality back to a good level. I hope it stays that way or improves even further, then we'll be happy to come back more often. Our meat-loving sons are also excited again.

In itself it's okay, what's not possible is such expensive prices for mini portions. We had 1 schnitzel with fries and salad and paid around €16 for it, where the schnitzel was really small. The children's plate was fine and everything was right. However, the currywurst with fries and salad for around €12 wasn't really much and was more like a children's plate.

Unfortunately no longer recommended after the change of ownership. The food is no longer of the usual quality and the service is very slow. We would therefore no longer come back.

Seit 40 Jahren sind wir immer gerne in den Hellas Grill gegangen, aber heute war es das letzte Mal. Beim Betreten des Grills fiel uns sofort auf, dass es für die Uhrzeit (18 Uhr) relativ leer war. Als nächstes haben wir uns über die deutlich gestiegenen Preise gewundert, aber ok, alles ist halt teurer geworden… Auch der übliche Ouzo aufs Haus bei Aufnahme der Bestellung wurde nicht mehr gereicht. Das Essen war ‚ok‘, aber irgendwie war alles nicht so wie wir es kannten, im vorderen Bestellbereich herrschte gähnende Leere auch die Stimmung war anders… Sehr schade :-(

New owners. You notice immediately. The service was "nice" but not the fastest. Waited almost 30 minutes for something to drink after eating. The free ouzo was also canceled, but the portions were smaller. It's a shame we've always been there, we've always been well served, but this will be the last time. And so the guests at the neighboring tables saw it the same way.

We always enjoyed going here, unfortunately the food isn't as good as it used to be. On the Pizza Diabolo Servelatwurst instead of spicy salami, but a foreign hair. Salad dressing instead of yogurt with mayomaise, and the eater very little seasoning. The service was rather lackluster, there was no cutlery and one fork was completely bent. It's a shame, I hope they find their way back to their old form

Years ago it was good. But had dinner there with friends today, well the pizza didn't taste very good. But when my wife took the food she had not completely eaten with her, she was seriously charged 1.50 euros for packing it up. I've never experienced anything like that and find it very outrageous, as the same dishes are sold at the front of the snack bar for significantly less, and there even without any packaging calculation. For me, the restaurant is not recommended. I won't eat there again either

Very disappointing. I have known this restaurant for 40 years with different owners. Today I was back for the first time in two years, the conclusion is that prices are up, quality and quantity are down. The Hellas fish platter contained a small piece of fish. As promised, nothing was grilled. The calamari was fried, the fish was fried and the scampis were not grilled. Overall really disappointing, we won't be going back here. too bad.

The food came quickly, hot and in large portions Everyone there is attentive and friendly. However, it feels very cold through the restaurant as soon as the door opens, which makes it very uncomfortable.

One of the best Greeks there is in Wuppertal. Whether to take away or not directly on site. The selection offers something for every taste and the quality is really top notch. Had a great meal on site again today.

I recently happened to look into the window from the street and saw an employee standing in front of the oven and fiddling with his nose with his fingers - right after the food was put in the oven. Everyone can decide for themselves whether this is hygienic, but it left me with an uneasy feeling.

Nothing special anymore, especially not the food! It's a shame, I used to love being here.

We have been regular guests at the Hellas Grill in Wuppertal-Barmen for over 40 years now. In my opinion, that says it all. Every visit is always a pleasure. All the best to the Hellas Grill team.

A really nice restaurant and really tasty (at least what I had 😉) but things had gone a bit unfavorably that evening. We had to wait over 40 minutes for our food because our pizza burned. It can happen, sure. But we would have liked a little compensation or something. Nevertheless, I would go again. 😉

Food was good and plentiful. But unfortunately the prices have gone up enormously. What I personally don't think is okay given the price level is that I have to pay 1.50 for the packaging if I want to take my leftovers with me.

Food to eat there is sometimes 20% more expensive. You get the same portions to take away as you would eat there. Even if they have to pay 19% VAT for eating there and only 7% for taking away, that doesn't justify the higher prices, in my opinion. And from 2024, 19% will also apply for take-away! So your story no longer works. You are treated unfriendly on the phone. I often ordered there by phone! They only understand half of it and can't even speak decent German! Decency and friendliness are not very important to the staff there. I wanted to order a mixed salad over the phone to pick up after the first person on the phone didn't understand what a mixed salad was and tried to explain to me that they call it a green salad. I then explained to another employee that in Germany it was a green salad for me It's just iceberg lettuce and there are no tomatoes etc. on it. The second, even unfriendly employee then also said that it was a green salad. I then kindly explained to him again that in Germany a green salad does not contain tomatoes and other ingredients. The Greek then said to me that he didn't want to take an order from me and why I would bother him! Hey? What didn't I understand? you tell someone they are wrong and then they treat you that way. Put your food somewhere else! I can only advise everyone not to order or eat there. The taste is good there. But they learned friendliness from a Greek village somewhere! And the people who work there don't have any decency either. Keep it up. You have now lost a customer who has eaten with you since 1987. Never again !

Mega tasty, great service - huge portions

Sensational!! We always used to come here! After about 6 years, back in Wuppertal! Food was great and generous! Thanks to Manoli for the great service and to the team for the really delicious gyros and the pizza with special requests!

It's just super quaint, the owner is a very warm guy. I think with the photos and descriptions you know exactly what you are getting. Had a pizza and wanted extra garlic and the portion was great. Really great value for money.

IThe Jägerschnitzel is highly recommended.

I grew up with the Hellas Grill. There used to be a huge crowd, the portions were generous, you were full, everything was great! Since the sons have taken over the shop and almost none of the old people work there anymore, in my opinion the shop has been run down. For example, there are no longer large pizzas, the "normal" ones are outrageously expensive, but at 60 Sec to Napoli and Co. you get a fantastic pizza. Basically everything has become damn expensive and the portions have become smaller. The reason I only give it 1 star is that last time I had a Bolognese schnitzel which tasted really strange and the feta in the middle was sour. The end result was that I was at home with food poisoning for almost 4 weeks, lost almost 10 kilos because I couldn't keep it down and I still don't have the strength. I have already reported the entire matter to the responsible office and hope that action will be taken there! I'm so sorry I won't be dining there again.

We've just been eating there again for a while. The prices have gone up, the portions are smaller. The salad is no longer what it used to be. We took a dish with us but the tzatziki was missing. The service is only good because Manolis is still there. It's unbelievable how the next generation can manage everything.

Wow! Rarely have I found such a good Greek as here in Barmen. Service top, food top... the ambience... well... but still no deductions, because here you can eat and drink well and choose from a very extensive menu! If you haven't been there yet, you should definitely stop by here! 👌👌👌

We decided to stop for lunch and the restaurant was impressive from start to finish. Gyros were nice and juicy, huge portion of fries and for 11.40 euros wheat 3.50 it couldn't be better

Exactly 6 years ago it was given 5 stars, but that was nothing today. It's not worth it if everyone else does it significantly better. Hellas used to be good and recommended, but now it's just not that special anymore. There are many better ones in the valley.

Never had such a bad ham pizza. Update today July 14, 2024. Order a Margherita without oregano and a curry fries. I got a pizza with oregano and a little cheese. Then I gave you pizza to others. They said they had never eaten such bad pizza. My father also said that the curry fries were really bad. Cheap sausage with no taste and fries hard as a rock. They then wanted €13.10 for that. Never again

Appropriate: The Hellas Grill is within walking distance of Alter Markt, in the direction of Barmer Anlagen. The entrance area doesn't necessarily suggest that there are so many seats in two rooms at the back. Even as a new guest you will be greeted warmly and cheerfully and served (even if you don't necessarily receive a 'farewell souzo', which may also be due to the individuality of the new guests). Good food is served here, in very reasonable quality and quantity. The meat is well prepared, the fries are above average and reminiscent of Belgian double-fried ones. The mixed side salad made from sour and raw vegetables is quite decent. Tip: The rich, peppery Metaxa sauce is great.

Delicious gyros and friendly, attentive and fast service. The restaurant offers more space than it seems at first glance.

Probably the worst Greek restaurant I have ever visited. The dishes are too expensive, the quality of the meat and the way it is prepared is unacceptable which shows that they don't have a professional chef. The store has not been renovated since it opened! The last time I ordered over the phone I was quoted a different price on the phone and when I picked it up I paid a different price. That was the last time I ordered anything from this restaurant.

I've been eating well here for 43 years! And friendly service. Again and again, keep it up! Have eaten here again, the food is great but the prices have increased noticeably and the dishes have become noticeably smaller. The bifteki has shrunk to the size of a meatball. My pizza has become smaller and the price of €15 and around €2 for spinach makes it a very high price that not everyone can afford. As I said, the food was great, the price and quantity no longer suited us, unfortunately.

When we came back here after a long time, the waitress tried very hard to look after us. We were horrified by the "quality" of the food, the lack of care in preparation and presentation, the hygiene and, last but not least, the absolutely unreasonable, horrendous prices. The salad: at least partly not fresh, the lettuce leaves are limp, the ready-made dressing is very sour and anything but tasty. My companion had a measly, absolutely dry “steak” with mountains of French fries. The fried potato sticks proved to be the highlight of the evening because of their crispiness. The base of my pizza came to me as a dry, hard cookie. According to the menu, I ordered Pizza Greco with feta and tomatoes. The base was well covered with cheese; On this white layer (no tomato underneath) there were 5 wafer-thin slices of about a quarter of a tomato, distributed irregularly. The drinks were served in completely wet glasses (absolutely outdated, hygienically questionable and incomprehensible at these prices). The greasy, anything but clean cutlery rounded off the “gain in experience” with the Hellas grill. The atmosphere there is clearly showing its age and seems dingy in places, and the prices cannot be justified. We didn't expect something like that. After this culinary experience we came to the same conclusion: Never again.

It is and remains a better and overpriced chip shop 😏 and you have to wait for the drinks.. and the food is not completely served.. That was definitely the last time, once and for all, to eat in this train station atmosphere 🥴.

First of all: Yes, we were full. No, that doesn't mean it was good. Hey, guys - dry meat, fries were crispy, but somehow not tasty. But the worst thing was the sauce from the wilted side salad. They dare to do something - fresh from the squeeze tube? We all know that things aren't easy in the catering industry. But such bland food at a hefty price shouldn't be the case. We had nothing on the table that I, as an average chef, couldn't have done better. It's a shame for a restaurant that has actually been considered an institution for many years.

I visited Wuppertal earlier last month on holiday. I'm from the UK. If I ever come to Wuppertal again, I will be happily visiting this restaurant for the second time. I came here for tea on the first evening of my holiday and was not disappointed. I went with my boyfriend. Both of us were looking forward to trying the tzatiki from here, since we emulate tzatiki at home. I've never tasted Hellas' style before. It was smooth and of a creamy texture - absolutely delicious. 😋 I made sure to finish everything on my plate-chips, salad and the grilled chicken and beef-I enjoyed it all so much and I was full after! I've seen a few reviews which said portions were small, I disagree, you can see my picture of our food. The restaurant itself felt cosy in the evening, with the corner table we were sat at. We didn't have to wait long to be served and we weren't waiting for a long time for the food to arrive. We came an hour before closing time, yet the food still tasted of a great quality. The food places in Wuppertal have certainly impressed me this far! 💖 (The only drawback, so I won't take a star off - I speak little German and even I could sense that our waiter, an older male waiter/the owner, had little time for pleasantries anymore and seemed curt in his overall manner towards us.)

We used to get food there regularly. After moving, we didn't eat anything from there for about a year. Because we were on the road, we stopped and grabbed something to eat. 2x gyro plates. Gyros delicious fries were also ok. But the portion of meat is laughable for the price. Too much money was charged for a double portion of fries. A week later second chance... Jägerschnitzel and gratinated pasta... Schnitzel was really disgusting with ready sauce... You could get the chemistry out like that. The pasta with far too little sauce didn't taste like anything. Price performance is now more than inadequate. We won't be coming back again.

After 30 years of Hellas Grill experience, today's worst result!!! The Jägerschnitzel were a disgrace - they definitely ended up in the deep fryer to warm up! The pizza has also declined significantly over the last 2 years... and at 8:45 p.m. there are no more gyros! So all in all, it's really disappointing and we're slowly saying goodbye to Hellas!

Nice staff but the food didn't convince me the last two times. The fries were pretty full of fat and the pizza last time was ok but not really good.

The food is great, especially the gyros (but I haven't eaten much else there). Attention, you can make a reservation online, but it probably can't be accessed on site, so it's better to just call.

For me it's still the best tzatziki at the "Greek". It's a shame that they no longer offer the Lahnsteiner Pils.

Not really. It's probably better for takeout. Uncomfortable and quite old facility. The meat on the skewers was quite tough. The salad with dressing was ok. Prices have increased everywhere, but a bit too much for this grill. The service was friendly. Parking spaces specifically for the grill diagonally opposite the intersection.

I've known this restaurant since I was a child. Suitable both as a snack and for eating on site. The atmosphere is cozy, rustic and the staff is family-friendly. The dishes are all recommended, from pizza to salads, snacks and seasonal offerings.

Price-performance ratio is not right at all! Prices as high as in a high-quality restaurant. Food is mediocre. Atmosphere is more like a snack bar than a restaurant. Service is ok, an older gentleman is definitely unusual, but it also takes some getting used to. The last time I was there was 15 years ago because I didn't like it back then. I wanted to give it a second chance, but it backfired.

Unfortunately that was our last meal from Hellas. We pre-ordered by phone and it was very unfriendly. When I picked up the food I was asked very rudely what I wanted, but still better than the young man next to me who wasn't paid any attention to. There was no kind word and refilling the salad was more important than serving the customers. OK, since I took the food with me, it didn't matter to me. When I got home I was shocked, the fries were hard and cold, the gyros were burnt, the tzatziki were runny and the gratinated gyros had a lot of Metaxa sauce. We really, really liked getting our gyros there, but not anymore. What a shame!

The food is good, no question about it. The service, especially from a specific long-term employee, is more than questionable. It couldn't be more unfriendly. The prices are now so outrageously high that we won't go there anymore. The price-performance ratio is much better elsewhere.
