Haus Oveney Café Restaurant - Bochum in Bochum

I visited this café with two friends and later with my mother. Unfortunately, my experience was not as pleasant as I had hoped, even though the ice cream itself was good. I am not a native German speaker, but I always try to speak German out of respect. When I ordered, I made a few small mistakes with articles, and the waiter corrected me each time. While I understand he might have been trying to help, the way he did it felt more dismissive than friendly. It made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. When I went back to order ice cream for my mother, I made another mistake and was corrected again — this time in a tone that felt even ruder. I then asked for a menu to see if we could try something different, but the waiter questioned why I wanted it, which made me feel quite unwelcome as a tourist who simply wanted to look at other options. I know my German isn’t perfect, but I wish the staff had been a bit more patient or switched to English if my German was a problem. I did not expect special treatment — just a bit of understanding would have made a big difference. I hope my feedback helps the café create a more welcoming atmosphere for tourists and anyone who does not speak perfect German. The ice cream was nice, but the way we were treated left me quite disappointed.

We spontaneously stopped by for lunch. The service is friendly and good, but the value isn't right. The food is okay, nothing more, but simply too expensive. What we can't understand at all: a non-alcoholic wheat beer costs 6.30 (!), and an orange juice costs 5.30!! It just ruins the overall impression.

We only visited the beer garden. The restaurant isn't recommended for hot meals. The outdoor restroom facilities were very well maintained.

When the weather's nice, the beer garden is a wonderful place to sit. The service was very friendly! Despite booking at short notice, we managed to get a table for 16 people. The food offers something for every taste.

Sitting in the countryside with friends, enjoying the relaxed atmosphere and going home feeling full thanks to the good food - that's what Haus Oveney is for us.

I had a small schnitzel with mushroom sauce. The schnitzel was okay, but really small. The sauce costs extra. No salad included. Price: €17.90. A wheat beer included, which was now €6.40. Here, you're paying for the beautiful location. We were always regular customers here, but unfortunately, I can't afford it anymore.

Friendly staff, you can eat there spontaneously, no reservation necessary. There are enough tables. Rustic. The vegetarian selection is good and tasty. I can't say anything about the rooms. I only know the restaurant.

It's lovely to sit outside in the summer months. The food is delicious and the service is really good and friendly.

We go there every Sunday morning with about 10 people to catch up on the past week. We usually just have a drink. Nevertheless, all the employees and the manager are super nice. Located on Lake Kemnader, it has a huge outdoor area and a lovely ambiance. We also feel very comfortable inside. There's a bowling alley. Now for the important part: the food is very varied and really delicious! There are no long waits. And again to you lovely employees: thank you for always bringing a smile to our faces with your natural friendliness and witty remarks!

Not enough staff, long wait for 2 beers and a Coke (39 min).

The food was delicious and the portions were absolutely generous. I was particularly pleased that there was a vegetarian alternative for almost every dish – something you don't take for granted these days and it was very welcome! I also liked the ambiance: cozy, inviting, and fitting with the overall atmosphere. I'd love to come back!

We stopped here for dinner after a bike ride and were warmly welcomed and served with our two dogs. The shepherd's pan was delicious and plentiful. The service was attentive without being intrusive. Very pleasant. The menu even includes snacks for the dogs.

The food is average, quite okay. Better than a snack bar, but not like a restaurant. We were there with a large group, and everyone thought it was okay. The service is friendly, and the food comes quickly. Haus Oveney clearly reflects its location. After a walk around the lake, you can definitely grab a snack there, but for our annual family reunion, we'll be returning to the previous restaurant. We had a barbecue in the evening, which was delicious. 😉

We often cycle and stop at this restaurant. Today it was that time again, and we ordered ice cream with whipped cream. We've gotten used to the fact that Haus Oveney isn't one of the inexpensive restaurants, but you know that before you order, and no one has ever forced us to stay there. However, what we find unacceptable for a restaurant of this category is "they served the cheapest kind of whipped cream" and that for an extra €1 per ice cream. We considered that a no-go. We might have been more understanding if it had been high-quality whipped cream. Unfortunately, there wasn't even a hint when we ordered. It's a shame, but perhaps the owner will change that instead of thanking us for the review and making it sound like it was necessary.

The food is of lower chip shop standard at the price of a Michelin star restaurant, stay away.

We ate here with a friend from Duisburg. She wanted to see Lake Kemnader and compare it with the 6-Lakes Plateau or the Regatta Course. The appetizer plate for two people was very reasonable in our opinion, with an additional €4.70 charge for a bit of sheep's cheese. The non-alcoholic wheat beer costs €6.30. That's the highest price I've ever paid for a wheat beer in a Bochum restaurant. It was nice, though, that my friend got to see Lake Kemnader and that we could sit comfortably there.

A nice restaurant in itself. Beautiful location, cozy beer garden. Very friendly service; the first drink order took a little while, but after that, it went relatively quickly. The spritzers tasted a bit watery, but the prices were steep. The food itself was okay, but you shouldn't bring too much of an appetite, as the portions are quite modest. 3 herring fillets and a good handful of fried potatoes for just under 20 euros. The schnitzels couldn't have been pounded much thinner; there were two each, but they were quite small. The whole thing was garnished with one and a half asparagus spears and a dollop of hollandaise sauce. Plus some fries, all for 20 euros. I can't say anything about the rooms; we only ate. Overall, a nice trip, but I'd happily go somewhere else next time.

We visited the outdoor area of ​​the restaurant and were initially ignored for 20-25 minutes. This actually also happened to other guests who sat in the outdoor area during this period. At the same time, you could always see the waitresses chatting and simply not responding adequately to guests' requests. In general, the organization among the waitresses seemed very confused and disorganized. Cake arrived 5 minutes after the order was placed, however (and this is an absolute no-go in my opinion) the drinks only came about a quarter of an hour after the cake, given the weather yesterday you would have been happy to be able to drink something promptly. The price of €23 for 2 pieces of cake and a drink each is pretty steep. Because of this entire experience, we were actually not willing to tip, but the remaining money was simply kept and the table was left straight away. Well, the impression is correct and makes us neither recommend this restaurant nor visit it again.

It was my first time eating at this restaurant. The location is really nice. I just have a lot of criticism about the waiting time and the prices. It's understandable that it's full on Mother's Day. But the fact that you have to wait well over an hour for your food despite having a reservation is incomprehensible to me. And the fact that you pay €13 for a beetroot/apple salad with goat cheese and then only receive the size of a “greeting from the kitchen” is incomprehensible. The drinks are also well above the price limit. A beer costs €6.30 which is also a very high price. Even on the impressive promenade on Lake Constance I only pay less than €5 for a beer. And the meal went like this - la la. There was more fat on the neck steak than meat. All in all, we paid over €120 for 3 people, which was at least €40 too much for the value of the food. Finally, it should be said that unfortunately we will not be coming back.

It's overcrowded, no one knows who is sitting where, even though there are reservations, you are simply sat at the table, you order a drink and a starter. The food is brought first than the drink.. then you order the food and wait for over 1:15 hours then you ask and are told to wait another 15-30 minutes. We then said we would be happy to pay and the waiter was pissed because we didn't want to wait almost 2 hours for our food... The garlic dip was normal mayo with a bit of spice and 4 baguette slices for 7€, really very steep... It's a shame, I was really looking forward to the meal and we had light and quick dishes that were actually ready within 30/40 minutes.. not a pity again...

We had just passed the restaurant at short notice for Mother's Day and thought we'd have something to eat there for Mother's Day. Pustekuchen staff were unfortunately completely overwhelmed. Starters came relatively quickly and the drinks were still a long time coming. Once we had finished the starter, our order for the main course was taken after repeated requests. After waiting for 45 minutes we asked ourselves where our order was 1x baked potato 1x currywurst fries 1x liver cheese 1x chicken We've been waiting for our food for an hour now. When we asked we were told we would have to wait another 20-30 minutes. So we decided to pay and go to another restaurant 3x goulash soups 2x “baguettes” each 4 small pieces of baguette And 4 drinks 64€ A nice restaurant but has been completely overwhelmed with too many customers for several weeks And just bad service

We had a quick lunch at Haus Oveney. The chicken was outstanding – cooked to perfection and still beautifully juicy. The vegetables were also extremely tasty. While the price is quite high, the taste is still worth it. The only thing that left something to be desired was the service. After ordering our drinks, no one came to take our food. Even when we wanted to pay, we had to wait a long time for the waiter to come with the bill (it wasn't packed).

It's been a long time since we've been to this location, but we were very disappointed. The pan gyro consisted of cooked chicken that had only been in the pan for a short time. Without the spices typical of a gyros and the coleslaw was covered by the tsasyki. The drinks were given out as 0.5 liter glasses without asking and were clearly too expensive. Never again.

The staff is always friendly when I've been there. Yes, the prices are high, but I think it's still justified given the location. BUT... the organization is a complete disaster every time, the staff is so overwhelmed every time I've been there and can't cope at all. Maybe it would just be helpful to hire more staff or a shift manager to take care of placements or something like that. Every time you sit at dirty tables, the second to last time we had 4! We had to ask for the bill every 40 minutes until we could finally pay. Yesterday the wrong food was delivered to our table twice, then the food came, but the drinks came 10 minutes later and the cake that was ordered at the same time also came another 15 minutes later and only after repeated requests. In between, the poor, completely stressed out waiter came to our table several times because he wasn't sure where the drinks were going, but it wasn't with us. The incorrect items were also noted on the invoice. It sounds like I want to criticize the staff here, but that's not the case at all! They do their best, run back and forth, but just can't keep up, especially with such a big beer garden and good weather. However, as a guest you are stressed and cannot enjoy your stay. It would be really important to bring in a better organization here and also hire more staff or train them better. It's just sad to see and knowing that they'll probably get the dissatisfaction of other guests even more... What a shame!

Well, we were your guests again after years. Service from the employees was perceived as good, even though there were young people who were probably still new to the industry. However, the price development is incomprehensible! As old regular customers, which we certainly were and are no longer due to a change of residence, we were negatively surprised by this. Since we are generally always on the move a lot and know many good pubs, restaurants and excursion destinations, the price for cake, coffee or other drinks is really quite steep. You can understand that everything has become more expensive, but you are really at the top of the list. Having to pay around 16 euros per person for a relatively short stay with cake, coffee and one drink each is really going too far. In addition, the tip, which is always included and is happily paid, is no longer possible. We'd better go back to Baldeneysee and their catering areas soon, where it's around 20%-30% cheaper. And you sit by the water and feel good about it. Ps. and I don't look directly at the price, but there is a pain threshold for everything. I'm happy to pay your price at the Café de Paris in Monte Carlo, but not at the Kemnad reservoir.

Tonight we took part in the crime dinner game. It was an entertaining evening, we really had a lot of fun. Even if the other players don't know each other, you quickly become familiar with each other in role-playing games. The artist led the game confidently. Solving a murder case is not only exciting, but can also be amusing. The accompanying menu was delicious as always, praise and thanks to the kitchen and the attentive and friendly service. I can absolutely recommend this crime dinner evening.

Be careful when booking tickets for events. We bought tickets for this year's New Year's Eve celebration, which could only be purchased through Eventim. Two days after purchasing the ticket, I was informed that the organizer had canceled the celebration and arranged for the refund - well, only the full amount will not be refunded, fees of 15 euros will be retained by Eventim...thank you very much for nothing 🤬

As part of a Christmas party, a large group has reserved a table for a crime dinner. It was only on site that it was announced that the group could not sit together at the same table. It would have been nice to communicate this beforehand. The portion sizes were very different, the food arrived very staggered and the vegetarian dish Käsespätzle was quickly changed to an inedible asparagus quiche. Drinks were not included, but there were no drink menus on display either, so the prices were not visible. For some people, the rude awakening came with the bill. The presenter of the crime game was extremely unsympathetic and tried desperately to be funny. She has also tried several times to embarrass individuals, which is absolutely unprofessional. The lady should rethink her choice of words here! The crime game itself was pretty confusing. The information presented did not contribute in any way to solving the case. The evening seemed as intended but not achieved. No recommendation!

Nice excursion restaurant on Lake Kemnader. Delicious food at a reasonable price and attentive service. Over the past few years, whenever I've been there for a quick walk around the lake, I've always felt very comfortable here. I prefer the hot waffles with cherries and vanilla ice cream, but I can also highly recommend the rest of the menu.

The restaurant is located directly on Lake Kemnadersee and on the Ruhrtalradweg, offers a good selection of dishes for a break after a walk or bike ride and good service.

Located close to Lake Kemnader, approximately 300 meters from the P4 parking lot and therefore easy to reach on foot. Beautiful, spacious and covered terraces with a beautiful view. From here you can walk around Lake Kemnader in about 2.5 hours. If you like rollerblading or cycling, you can also do this with your own lanes for the bikes/inliners.

A nice bistro in the edge of the path for biking or walking close to the lake. I would really wish that it was closer to the lake, so you can have a view to the the water. There is also a children's playground next to it. The service is very friendly and attentive.

I like to stop here at the end or during a hike. Likewise during a slightly longer bike ride. I am always very happy about a fresh Staropramen. However, €5.90 for half a liter is a steep price, although you have to note that there are also restaurants in Bochum city center that charge the same or higher amount for half a liter of Fiege Pils. Sometimes it's so busy that it takes a little longer to get to it. I find that very annoying, but understandable. So far I have always received what I ordered. And when I get my fried panhas (€17.90), I am satisfied and sink comfortably into my chair in the beer garden after eating it, ignoring the fact that I still have 10 km to ride my bike. What I don't like is that I would actually have to pay €12.90 for a snack dish like currywurst with fries if I wanted to eat it. That even exceeds the price in the already quite expensive bratwurst house in the Bermuda Triangle.

Stopped here after 32 kilometers on a bike tour and ordered some water. The service was friendly and the water came quickly, despite there being a lot going on. Family meeting in mid-August at Haus Oveney for breakfast with 29 people The ambience and surroundings, with a playground for the children, are really wonderful. The breakfast was just poor. 2 types of jam, 3 types of sausage, 1 type of cheese, scrambled eggs and bacon for 15 people, only normal rolls (which were also baked), 1 small basket of fruit, 7 bottles of water, coffee, tea and cocoa flat rate (was agreed upon in advance). , otherwise each additional cup would have cost €5). There was no cereal, no boiled egg, no orange juice, no fried eggs, no dip, anything with tomato or a small treat for the children. I ended up paying €39 for breakfast (for one person, mind you) and two bottles of water. This is just a joke. I will definitely not come here again or recommend the restaurant. Greetings Margarete

Actually a great place.. unfortunately the coffee was brought without the fresh waffles and only came after the coffee was gone and we had asked.. out of 4 guests one got a goulash soup and the remaining 3 as just described.. sorry either everything at the same time or not at all and coffee and weapons should be brought together and less than 15 minutes later...

We went to the afternoon café on the terrace. When the weather is nice, the environment is very busy, with lots of children in the nearby playground. Some service staff of non-German origin find it difficult to take orders due to a lack of sufficient language skills. Although they try very hard and are not unfriendly, it will still take some time until they have mastered their task to some extent. The service itself is still quite clumsy. There is still a lot of room for improvement when it comes to putting a cup of coffee or a plate of cake on the table in front of the guest. However, this may also be due to a lack of instructions from the operator. This means that if I employ unskilled workers, and it doesn't matter whether they are locals or immigrants, then I have to teach them at least the basic knowledge of a good service worker. The operator failed here. The cake quality is average, as is the coffee taste. You can go there if you're willing to overlook a lot of things. Prices for the service are very demanding.

Duroc? PLEASE DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING! (don't confuse it with Iberico! also sounds Spanish) Duroc is an American HYBRID BREED. This means that the poor quality is bred cross-bred with 2 other breeds and - ultimately the Duroc has THE SAME POOR QUALITY AS THE GERMAN DOMESTIC PIG! because it is fed the same fishmeal! COSTS JUST AS MUCH! but since the breed is not yet so resistant, you can give a lot more antibiotics, the best thing is, you can use a lot more WATER AND TENDERIZERS! So inject softener (tenderizer) into the pork fillet before serving! ANYONE can buy THIS fake duroc SCHNITZEL with a KG PRICE of 4-5 euros ready-breaded at Rewe for 1.49! So they are the VERY LAST ALDI MASS SCRAP! and please note! a schnitzel NEVER WILL! put it in the french fryer! Never! but fried with butter! smell the greasy smell! and ask yourself what you eat,,, (it is fried with chicken fat! it is cheaper! Well, what does it light up? fed with fish meal and fried with chicken fat!) everyone can look! everyone ! The real Duroc is 36 euros per kg - so the retail price is almost 10 times as expensive! That would mean that a schnitzel with 300 grams alone would cost 12 euros in meat - that would be the real thing! cooking competition for about 35 euros on the plate! So just the schnitzel without frozen... side dishes! PLEASE DO NOT BELIEVE EVERYTHING a tourist restaurant writes! This cheap industrial quality naturally also applies to the rest of the menu. especially on the cheapest chemically treated Melitta - Cafe, at a kg price of 3.99! Otherwise it would taste really bitter and the industrial mass beer that pretends to come from Prague is of course just a product derivative of Hövels - nothing is hand-brewed - so everyone can form their own opinion! Formula - If the kitchen size has less surface area than the restaurant guest table area - it is NEVER! about hand-made home cooking, but always about FROZEN FOOD that ONLY! Delivers pre-conditioned conveniant dishes! For example, in order to make a quiche you would have to be really good at something, that would mean you would have to bake and cook fresh every day,,, that can never happen in a wedding pub like this! It is far too difficult to poach our staff from the right professionals in NRW...

We took a short break here on our bike tour and had a great vegan snack. It was very tasty and the vegan selection was particularly nice.

We enjoyed coming here for the breakfast buffet. Nice, competent service, delicious breakfast, sat outside. We'd love to come back.
