Haus am See in Ottersberg

We had coffee and cake in the garden. I like the large terrace, overlooking the lake under the old trees. The tables and chairs, a bit dated, are fitting for this traditional restaurant. The cup of coffee was good, the apple pie was a bit unidentifiable and had been left over. There were also brownies, but nothing else that afternoon/weekend. I also looked at the entire menu; there are so many, far too many dishes. From experience, nothing good and fresh can ever be served there. Dear owner, this is a wonderful place, right on the lake with a long tradition. Bake good cakes for the afternoon and cook a few regional, seasonal dishes, and I'll be happy to come back.

Very tasty food and the portions are also good

Saturday afternoon. A few tables are occupied. The old chairs—I think they were there 30 years ago—didn't have any cushions. After two hours, your feet are already hurting. The waitress was a bit overwhelmed with the order, in terms of concentration... The Alster had too much of a beer taste. The house beer was okay. We waited 45 minutes for schnitzel and triplets. But otherwise, it was okay. We ordered a schnitzel to go, which was then served to our table on plates 20 minutes later. No, please, takeaway! Then the food was stuffed into a cardboard tray that didn't close properly. Our request for a bag—we were there by bike—was denied. "We don't have any bags." No alternative was offered. I said I'd take a newspaper, too. The lady wanted to ask again... I eventually went back to the counter and asked again – otherwise, I'd probably still be sitting in the garden waiting today... The lady, of course, had forgotten to ask for the newspaper. She then went to the grumpy chef, who, with a furrowed brow, pressed some aluminum foil into her hand and said, "Here, you'll have to see how you manage with this."... I couldn't unwrap it completely... I took the aluminum foil and left... .... When I asked how it's handled when food is picked up, are there no bags there either?... I unfortunately didn't get an answer. In summary, an annoyed chef, two "out of sorts" young waitresses who couldn't care less whether the customer was satisfied or not... ancient garden chairs without cushions, and too many menus where the ingredients were "already gone"... I don't think I'll subject myself to that again. Unless there's a new owner who can plan better—where was he, anyway?... P.S. Dear Daniel, thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, it doesn't match what I anticipated. The beer garden wasn't very full, and our food wasn't on the table even after 35 minutes! Our neighbors even had to wait an hour for two people and find their own cutlery! It's a real shame that you're ignoring my comments and not taking them seriously at all, but instead blaming me for the staff's dismissive and overwhelmed behavior. Good staff are always as good as their owners! That's all I'll say. I don't need to go into anything else, because you have one less family dining with you! But I don't think you care. It's not your place! P.S. The staff's passion must have gone down the drain that day!

You can eat and drink here. It's not that attractive from the outside, and they could make it a bit more welcoming, but the food and service were very good 👍.

The café's location is truly beautiful, and it was quite busy on this Sunday. Unfortunately, I had to wait over an hour for my food until I inquired and was told my order had been forgotten. I then canceled my meal and opted for coffee and cake instead. The coffee was good, and the cake was delicious. What bothered me most, however, was the way the staff treated me. As someone who comes from the restaurant industry myself, I can't understand why only two people were assigned to the outdoor area on such a busy Sunday afternoon. In my opinion, this is an extreme strain on the employees, and it's no wonder there's a staff shortage or guests have to wait a long time. Additionally, the summer garden seemed a bit neglected. A few small adjustments, such as removing cobwebs from the building walls, would significantly improve the ambiance and make it more welcoming.

Unfortunately, we waited over an hour for our food, and the staff weren't attentive either. Furthermore, not everything was available, which was only noticed and adjusted after 30 minutes. The food was still delicious.

I was at the restaurant with my daughter two weeks ago. We had a dog with us and, despite the warm weather, sat down inside to give the little one a little more peace and quiet. We were greeted warmly, but it took about 15 minutes before we received the menu and could order drinks. The menu was past its best and was very crumpled. The front cover was missing from one of the copies entirely. Otherwise, the menu had a good selection and there was something for everyone. However, some of the side dishes were a bit confusing and not consistently written underneath or next to each other. This caused us some confusion, but the waitress was able to clear it up. The food arrived quite quickly; both schnitzels were very tasty, but the fried potatoes were not peeled properly, with some of them still having their skin on. After the food was brought to us, we waited about an hour until someone came to us. In the meantime, no one asked if everything was okay or if we wanted another drink. When we wanted to pay, we were informed that only cash or PayPal payments were possible. This was never mentioned beforehand; fortunately, my daughter had enough cash with her. Neither of us has a Papal account. Even though the restaurant is located directly on the lake, they could have paid a bit more attention to cleanliness. The women's restrooms were very dirty, and only one of them still had toilet paper. We mentioned this to the owner at the beginning of our stay. However, when we left, nothing had changed. There were many cobwebs in the corners of the dining rooms, the floor was very sandy, and the windowsills were dusty. Everything around the house also looks rather lackluster. There are many empty pallets and buckets next to the house (you inevitably have to pass this one before entering), weeds grow knee-high in the grass, and there is trash everywhere in the parking lot. The ambiance in the restaurant is a bit chaotic, in my opinion. There are so many different colors in the rooms and a mismatched inventory; a clear pattern wasn't really discernible. All in all, the visit was rather mediocre even though the food tasted really good.

A very idyllically located restaurant overlooking Lake Otterstedt. There were three of us there without a reservation and we received a very friendly welcome. The food – we had burgers, sweet potato fries and aioli, fried potatoes, and chanterelle mushrooms – was delicious. Starting in September, they will offer a Sunday breakfast brunch by reservation. We'll definitely try it out and are looking forward to it. The service was also very attentive.

We don't usually complain, and mistakes happen. But unfortunately, this was simply bad service. We had to ask several waiters repeatedly for an ashtray and the menu. When we ordered, both of our dishes were no longer available. Thirty minutes after ordering, I was told that my alternative dish was also no longer available. I then had to wait another 15 minutes before I could order something else (my husband's meal was already being prepared, so I only ordered fries to speed things up). After an hour and 15 minutes, the food finally arrived (I almost forgot the Maja for the fries). My husband's schnitzel was delicious. The fries had a somewhat lackluster taste. We then paid inside afterwards to save time. Unfortunately, it was a complete waste and I wouldn't recommend it. P.S.: it was neither full nor understaffed.

It was our first time there. The food was delicious, but you have to be prepared for it. Long waits for the menu, drinks, and food to arrive. The servers spend a lot of time looking around, but don't notice when customers want to order something. No card payments accepted.

We always enjoyed coming here, but the last two times were a disaster, unfortunately. The food is good, but it's unacceptable that we have to wait over an hour for our meal – a veggie burger, schnitzel, and fries. The neighboring tables were served before us, even though the guests arrived much later. We were repeatedly put off, and nothing came, not even a reminder that something might have been "forgotten." The staff was friendly, but unfortunately chaotic. We didn't get some dishes, and even the second time we ordered, they were forgotten, but they appeared on the bill at the end. There weren't enough plates for six people, so we used napkins to eat our fries. Sure, you can grab fries with your fingers, but with eight people constantly pushing the three bowls around is rather mediocre. I hope it gets better; as I said, the staff is friendly.

Food was nice but we waited for 1.5 hours and there was almost no one, a bit too much

We were there around lunchtime and wanted to get some snacks and some drinks. Unfortunately, they couldnt offer proper coffee. We then ordered some food to share. It came to the table in bowls (chips), no plates or cutlery given. We had to grab for ourselves some serviettes to use. We had ordered aioli too but then it turned out they didn't have any. We were told they would bring us some mayo to replace it with - this never came. Aioli was still listed on our bill when we went to pay.The chips weren't fully cooked through. Overall, it left a lot to be desired. I could understand if it was a food truck or something similar where the expectations have to be lower. However, it isn't that and it also isn't cheap. We were really disappointed and won't be coming back unfortunately:(.

Ordered takeout in March. We were looking forward to it and hoping for the best. We were completely disappointed. When we walked in, they were so focused on pouring beer that we didn't even say hello. No matter, we came for the food, not for pleasantries. The food, however, was a disaster. Wedding soup... served in an old red cabbage jar (you can guess what you want). The only ingredients were apparently egg yolk, meatballs, and lots of salt. Everything else was missing. The Otterburger, which was usually delicious, was incredibly dry, and instead of beefsteak tomatoes, there were radishes. The Jägerschnitzel was garnished with cranberries...but you only get that from Wiener Schnitzel. Bottom line: we won't be back.

I've been to Haus am See many times and have eaten there every time. The quality is excellent. The staff is always very friendly, and even though it's often very busy, I've never had to wait exceptionally long. I always enjoy coming back.

It's a nice place to sit by the lake, the fried potatoes were bad, the veggie burger was good. Service was abysmal, with one waitress and two teenagers who were (understandably) unmotivated.

We always come here for dinner whenever we stop in Otterstedt. That's why I know the food is really good and delicious. This Saturday (July 19, 2025) we had to leave without our food because after over half an hour the waiters refused to take our orders and kept forgetting about us, even though we called for them several times. It's a shame and annoying that the waiters have so little overview of the place, the tables, and what's going on. It was full, but that's unfortunately no excuse for such a complete failure.

Beautiful location by the lake, delicious food, but you have to be prepared with plenty of time. Nothing comes to the table in less than an hour. Sometimes the wrong food is served, or it doesn't come at all, as the next table observed. Next time, just get a drink. ;-)

I waited 60 minutes in vain for the food I ordered. No regrets or apologies. Never again!

We were at the restaurant at Otterstedter See today and were unfortunately very disappointed. The drinks alone took over an hour to arrive, and only after repeated requests did they arrive—and that was even after the food was already on the table. We had to fetch our own cutlery; only two forks were brought, even though there were three of us. The waitresses were unfriendly and rude; we felt unwelcome as a guest. The food was missing ingredients (e.g., mayo in the currywurst and fries), and the taste was overall underwhelming. A shame; we had really hoped for more. !!! Not recommended!!!

This restaurant is terrible and not recommended!! We had to wait almost 1.5 hours for our food (1 currywurst and 1 schnitzel). Since that took too long, we paid and left hungry. 😡 One star is already too many.

Good food with regional produce. The lakeside location is truly beautiful, especially in summer. On Saturday, our visit was enhanced by a music show on the terrace. We'd be happy to return.

Unfortunately, the buffet at the Christmas party was not good. The boiled potatoes had numerous black spots, the potato gratin was too raw, the pork schnitzel was not good quality, the vegetables were not seasoned and simply overcooked, and the salads were too sour. I was not impressed by the quality at all.

Good restaurant. Wait times are a bit long. Prices are reasonable. Payment is accepted in cash or via PayPal. Beautiful view of the lake.

The Haus am See restaurant on Otterstedter Lake offers a wide variety of dishes. They taste great. The staff is friendly and attentive. The price-performance ratio is good. The unique location directly on the lake is exceptionally beautiful. You can sit outside and enjoy your meal. Great.

I went there spontaneously, and we had burgers and schnitzel. The restaurant was nice and quiet. The decor is quite rustic, but they made the most of it. The food was excellent! 10 stars for the burger and fries 😍☀️ Beautiful location by the lake, definitely worth a visit! And thanks for the great service.

The food was very tasty and good quality. The vegetarian burger is highly recommended. Unfortunately we were very disappointed with the service. Firstly, we had to wait a very long time for our food. On the other hand, the service was unfortunately very haphazard and inattentive. For example, empty glasses were not taken away when new drinks were brought. Sometimes the service only came to bring a small bowl of mustard and then went back to the kitchen empty-handed, even though there were still dishes on our table that could be cleared away. You had to wait a long time for everything. Bring patience! But the food is worth it and is really very good.

A great kitchen, the ingredients are very select and prepared with a lot of passion which resulted in a tasty meal. The ambience fits very well and is appealing. We would love to come back and can only warmly recommend it.

Four of us were there for brunch on Sunday and, to say it first: we were all full and hardly missed anything. When we asked, we were quickly given the missing horseradish for the salmon. We also felt well looked after in other ways, as both the very friendly service and the boss repeatedly asked about satisfaction as soon as time allowed. As a small suggestion for improvement, I would like to give the tip to provide some dishes with information signs so that even inexperienced guests know what to expect on the buffet 😉 In terms of price, the brunch is absolutely okay given the selection 👍 We would love to come back 😊

I was there today for the quiz. The quiz was great, the rest was not I missed a food and drink menu at the tables. I then spontaneously ordered an Alster, which was served to me after almost an hour while everyone else who came after me had already been provided with food and drinks. Communication with the service was difficult because the person only spoke English and did not understand simple products like Alster. After the chaos with the drink, I consciously avoided ordering anything to eat. I wouldn't have had the nerve to ask the staff for a card, then wait half an hour and then after another half hour explain again in English what I wanted because the staff didn't know their craft and didn't understand German terms. All in all, absolutely bottomless and I can get the beer quicker elsewhere. Update: of course I informed the service team that I was still waiting for my drink. Nothing happened for a long time and the people around my table were being served. It wasn't until the third request that the beer finally came.

Friendly staff, but a coffee to go and hot water cocoa, both in a paper cup, for 7.80 euros are clearly too much!

I was there yesterday with my family and I was absolutely thrilled. The service staff was very accommodating. So he was very kind and advised us about the food. We will definitely come back!! The service person (tall, slim young woman) was in a relaxed mood and put us in a good mood. I was really very grateful to her. I wish everyone would be so nice and professional at the same time. The Basic three Burger, Crispi Chicken Burger and Bacon Heaven Burger were our choices. Delicious!!

A trip to the lake house is like a little vacation! The location right on the water is beautiful and relaxes you after a strenuous day. The menu offers a good mix of delicious dishes and the quality is outstanding! Fresh, regional ingredients are served here - and you can taste it! Rarely have we been able to meet such a friendly host. The operator puts his heart and soul into it with joy and has been able to realize his very own, modern but also traditional style in the location. Cultural evenings with classical music are also held here, which is a real enrichment. We felt very comfortable and are already looking forward to our next visit!

Bad food, bad service, ambience really bad! Unlit parking lot! Toilets and hall not clean!

We booked the crime dinner event and gave some of it away. A house in need of renovation awaited us on site with a pile of bulky waste in front of the door and a muddy access path. Inside, time has stood still between the 60s and 80s. The food was that of a simple village inn; many people even left out the starter because of the overpowering spiciness and consistency of the fish. By the way, I like spicy food! Ordering drinks was very difficult and time-consuming due to overwhelmed and poorly trained service staff. The ladies usually didn't make it to the end of the table. We had to order extra ice cubes because even the white wine came to the table warm. The selection of drinks was modest. I don't know how much the food contributed to the ticket price of a whopping €89. Maybe the price-performance ratio was okay. I will rate the “play” separately, but all 5 of us went home shaking our heads and will neither book another crime dinner nor visit the house by the lake - at most a cyclist as part of a bike tour.

Unfortunately, price/performance is not right. I don't think €19.50 for a Wiener Schnitzel that hasn't been beaten and has tendons is ok.

We were there for Easter brunch, everything was very tasty and filling. Plus a very friendly service. A little note to the team for the future: please have sweet spread ready for children 😉

I ate a Bacon Heaven Burger with fries. The burger was delicious and well prepared. The fries were also delicious, but had to be ordered separately. I found the price a bit too high for the portion size. I had ordered a spritzer but received a lemonade, so I ordered another water... Service was very nice, just a bit confused.

Finally! The two of us were finally here again for a long time for a private celebration on March 7th 🎂! We enjoyed our food excellently: wedding soup as a starter - baked potato or falafel plate as the main course - Otterstedter fried potatoes as a delicious sweet dish and dessert. As drinks we enjoyed wine and water (at the desired temperature). Friendly atmosphere that fully compensated for the failed heating! Any time!

Never again !!! We wanted to drink COFFEE after a walk... The first cup was not edible (guess stale old coffee?) and lukewarm. "Do you need milk and sugar?" - so is it only available upon request? And they save themselves a spoon and saucer altogether! Stir with your finger! Oh well. You notice quicker how bad the coffee is... The broth was also left at the next table! One look into the kitchen was enough for me... Everyone walks in there as they please? The waitress sits with her cell phone and nibbles on her fingers - what feels like 5 cm fingernails... That's why she touches the cup from above??? It makes me sick to think that I had to put my mouth there to drink and only saw it when I was paying! No recommendation to eat or drink there. I don't understand how the "*****" reviews here came about...

We really enjoyed our stay at the Haus am See in Otterstedt. The breakfast buffet was varied and delicious - a great selection that left nothing to be desired. The spontaneous dinner was also a culinary highlight. The service was always attentive and friendly, which made our stay particularly pleasant. We appreciate the first-class hospitality and the beautiful surroundings. An all-round successful experience – we would love to come back!

It's a shame, we would have liked to have brunch... Were there at 10.30 a.m. and were very disappointed... We imagine something different about a brunch for 26 euros... It would also be nice to make the ambience a little more loving, but that's it A matter of taste :) We weren't the only ones who left and were very disappointed. When I asked the service whether this was brunch for the price stated, it was answered in the affirmative. I don't think we missed anything, on the contrary, we gained experience... Sorry, we had promised ourselves more...

We were also there for brunch today. We made reservations for 10 a.m., contrary to the statement in a reply to another review from today that all guests had reservations from 10:30 a.m. The food was served from 10:00 a.m., so we couldn't eat until 10:30 a.m. after the buffet opened. The selection was very, very manageable for the total of around 10 guests and absolutely cannot be compared with the beautiful pictures on Facebook. Neither from the look nor from the selection. I didn't see any muesli or cereals, jam, honey or Nutella. So nothing for a sweet breakfast, for example. In terms of taste, it's okay overall but nothing special, so it's something everyone can make at home. Some of the food was cold. Sure, if the fried eggs are left for a long time before the buffet opens. At least we were asked if we had any wishes about what the chef could conjure up. The service was tried hard, but that doesn't necessarily make the overall result any better. We find €26.90 per person absolutely unreasonable and will not be coming back. Yes, we know: high costs etc., but then you should also offer something corresponding. A little tip by the way: in the small room there are quite a few cobwebs in the corners and I was visited by 4 friendly spiders in the men's toilet. In my opinion, the ashtrays in the outdoor area could be emptied and at least roughly cleaned before opening. Shortly after 12 there were around 40-50 butts in there, and definitely not from the guests present. I know: there are many negative points that could have been addressed on site, but it would have been too uncomfortable for us to address these many negative impressions. We definitely won't see each other again. Nevertheless, all the best to them.

We enjoyed a fantastic brunch with international surprises. The table was so lavishly set that the only problem is deciding where to start. Good-humored service and a playroom for the little ones round off the visit in a great atmosphere. We recommend!

Wir waren mehr als positiv überrascht, von dem außerwöhnlich vielfältigem und leckeren Speisenangebot, es gab bekannte Dinge, aber eben auch vieles was neu und unhemlich lecker war. Vegan und Glutenfei war kein Problem und wurde sogar extra bereitet! Sehr freundlicher Service, und natürlich der traumhafte Ausblick auf den Otterstedter See. Also Leute, geht dahin, eine echte Empfehlung, Geheimtipp!!!! Wir kommen wieder!

1. WEIHNACHTENSFEIERTAG ....es noch viel Luft nach oben. ESSEN lauwarm, zu viele Gäste angenommen. zu teuer ....habe im Wachtelhof mit allem zwei Person 118€ bezahlt....

Super Frühstücksbuffet am Sonntag, das Essen ist frisch, liebevoll zubereitet und gesund. Der Service ist sehr aufmerksam und schnell und das Ambiente mit Blick auf den See einfach toll! Gerne wieder

I was passing through on business, unfortunately it was not recommended. It looks very dirty and my coffee was cold

Wir waren mit unseren Kindern zum ersten mal hier und sicherlich auch das letzte mal, der Wirt hat den Laden nicht im Griff wirkt total überfordert und nervös. Ein Blick in die Küche lässt das schlimmste befürchten, leiter alles total dreckig und das Personal legt auch keinen Wert darauf das der Laden sauber bleibt. Jeder der Gesund bleiben möchte sollte einen Bogen um dieses Lokal machen.
