I got a cappuccino here at the main train station - assuming it was a normal cappuccino. Nothing suggested that it was already sweetened. No sign, no demand. And yet: after the first sip it was clear that sweetener was involved. The problem isn't just that I don't like sweetened coffee. The problem is that unsweetened coffee is the norm - something you should be able to rely on. If sugar is added, it should be clear. Anything else is a surprise, and in this case not a pleasant one. But beyond the pure annoyance, it's about something more fundamental: sugar masks the fine, nuanced aromas of the coffee, the acidity, the slight bitter note, the roasted aromas. A cappuccino is a combination of espresso and milk, a balance. If it is sweetened, this balance is destroyed. What remains is a sweet, mushy uniformity that has nothing to do with good coffee. Unfortunately a disappointing experience. If you want to enjoy your coffee straight, you should be careful here. Still more than one star because the prices and service are okay.
