Haferkasten in Kenzingen

First of all, the food was very good. On the seasonal menu, there were two chanterelle schnitzels with spaetzle. I knew the cheese spaetzle was great there. So I asked the waitress if it was possible to have just one schnitzel and a small portion instead of the regular cheese spaetzle. If not, I would gladly have the regular ones. The waitress came back from the kitchen and said yes, it would be possible. While the food was being prepared, I asked if it was possible to serve it on two plates, as it probably wouldn't fit on one. My companion said it didn't matter. I was in the bathroom at the time. So I got one plate of schnitzel with chanterelle mushrooms and a huge plate of cheese spaetzle. The spaetzle was very tasty; I only ate a third of it and had the rest packed up. Then I got the bill, which was where I was annoyed. They added two entire dishes to the bill. When I asked, the waitress, who was wearing a bare midriff and had a huge piercing, just grinned cheekily. "That's just how it is now." I was a bit overwhelmed by the situation and paid first. Shocked, because my meal was more expensive than those of my two companions combined. After leaving, I wanted to speak to the waitress again, but she fled into the kitchen and didn't come out until we had left. Bottom line: Really delicious food, but I'm very unhappy about going back there again because of the waitress's rip-off.

My colleague ordered but sauce was missing

We've been ordering regular delivery from here for over two years and were initially very satisfied. Unfortunately, the quality of the food has declined significantly over the past year. Today, the sauce was forgotten in our order—it happens. We were promised a replacement. After waiting for over an hour, however, we received neither the sauce nor an apology or response. This has nothing to do with the value of the sauce, but rather with respect for long-standing customers. This is not how you treat regular customers. Unfortunately, this was our last order.

First time at Haferkasten Kenzingen. Very nice beer garden, where live music is offered every Friday evening throughout the summer (free entry, hats are passed around). Great atmosphere in the beer garden, with a view of the RFSV Kenzingen riding arena and a rustic, cozy dining room. The beer garden was moderately busy, with three unmotivated servers (I can judge this very well, as I'm an expert). We waited a long time for someone to come, even though we were initially asked about our seating. The sausage salad with fries we ordered took about 40 minutes to arrive. It tasted really good, and the fries were still hot. Really reasonable value for money. Unfortunately, the servers wandered around the beer garden disinterestedly, paying little attention to whether you wanted another drink. Training in this regard would certainly have been helpful. Otherwise, it was a lovely evening, and we'll definitely be back.

After a good decade, we wanted to try it again, as we had fond memories of it. Unfortunately, it's not the same as it used to be! First criticism: they only serve large beer glasses. Some of our group would have preferred 0.3 l glasses. For the meal, one of the tarte flambées was still raw! Our cancellation was declined because we had already eaten almost half of it before we had even looked at the underside. There were other dishes that were tasty, but also some that were just OK at best. The service was unfortunately really bad. We wanted to order ice cream to finish off our meal, so we asked for the ice cream menu, which came quickly, but the waitress didn't show up again. When we went in after about half an hour (our drinks were long gone) to say we wanted to order, we were told the kitchen was already closed! At 9 p.m. on a Saturday. But that's exactly how you have to communicate it when you hand out the menu! Such a shame considering the great atmosphere.

We've always been well served at Haferkasten. Both the food and the service have always been excellent. Unfortunately, today we discovered that the kitchen was completely overwhelmed. All of the salads were drenched in far too much dressing. The lettuce was practically swimming in salad dressing. The turkey strips weren't cooked properly either. Normally, they'd add a sesame coating, but this was unfortunately completely forgotten. The service was generally very attentive and apologized for the kitchen's mistake, but unfortunately, there was no compensation. I hope things will be better next time.

On a beautiful summer day, we had the pleasure of concluding our official outing with a delicious lunch in the cool shade of the trees. The location is rural, with horses and donkeys to admire. We were there with around 80 people, and everyone had plenty of space in the shade. The service was exemplary, friendly, and prompt. The food was delicious, and both meat lovers and vegans were catered for. The food was constantly refilled, and everyone was truly satisfied. Many thanks to the colleagues from the Freiburg Environmental Protection Agency for the wonderful hospitality.

I ordered and picked it up there. I can't say much about the ambiance, but it looked very cozy 👍🏼 The food was really delicious, and the portions were very generous! They even gave me a free bottle of wine! The service was very friendly. I'll definitely order there again, or just go there for dinner!

Concert evening at Haferkasten: Location: Awesome! Band: Very cool! Catering: A disaster

We recently had dinner at Haferkasten and, as always, weren't disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious 😊 A very nice atmosphere, especially in the summer evenings during one of the concerts, you feel very comfortable. It's always a great experience for the kids, too, with the animals on site. We'll definitely be back!😋

After being delighted to have found a nice restaurant for dinner, we returned home very upset. What happened was that we placed our order for a pork steak with asparagus and roast potatoes. What arrived looked delicious, but was an inedible sirloin steak that probably not even horses could have ground. Misunderstandings can happen. After I pointed this out to the waitress, saying I had ordered a pork steak and definitely didn't want a beef steak, I received the snide reply that there was no pork steak on the menu, and I was left with it. I waited a while longer; the asparagus and potatoes were almost cold. I consulted with my husband and approached the waitress to tell her that she didn't need to do anything else because the food was getting cold. She replied that the chef could bring me another pork steak. Annoyed, I declined, ate the now-cold potatoes and asparagus, and returned the beef steak, assuming I was paying for what I had ordered. When I went to pay I was shown a lesson. The server said that since I didn't want to eat the pork steak afterwards I would have to pay for the beef steak I hadn't ordered. She couldn't make any adjustments to the till. All of this was done in a very unfriendly manner. When I wanted to speak to the manager, the server turned into the boss. A boss who doesn't know her own menu, who can't correct mistakes on the till and who, on top of that, argued in an outrageously arrogant manner. I waited in vain for an apology. All I can say is that pride comes before a fall. The only thing I can say about the food we ate is: ready meals buried under cheese, of poor quality for the price. You can only give this restaurant a wide berth.

Great place to eat with a view of the riding hall

Super friendly staff, wonderful atmosphere. I can highly recommend it! When the weather is good, sit on the terrace under the tall trees or watch the horses training indoors or in the glass house - as if you were outside. A little dream.

An all-round successful experience: The kitchen impresses with its simple elegance - uncomplicated, but with a high level of taste. Particularly noteworthy is the Aperol, which can easily keep up with the taste in a Parisian bistro. The service was exceptionally friendly and attentive - unobtrusive and at the same time very warm. The atmosphere is something very special: stylish, with a touch of rural idyll thanks to the adjacent riding stables. A place with character that you would like to visit again.

Update April 2025: another attempt, unfortunately again an absolute failure. The food: loveless and unoriginal, you can literally taste the package, by the end our faces were glowing from all the glutamate. We haven't had that for a long time. There is simply no clear line, no leadership, you can see that in every corner. A homemade problem, nothing works. The service is again hopelessly overwhelmed, the toilets are underground, unkempt, cutlery and glasses are unclean - that's not possible! It's a shame what has become of this beautiful object. Unfortunately, oat box has deteriorated a lot. The food tastes like convenience, the portions are okay, the prices are high. The staff seems hopelessly overwhelmed, which is understandable at this time, but this is not made any better by the comparatively high prices. All in all, not a highlight. And if you look at the boss's rude and unobjective comments here, it will give you the rest and allow you to draw conclusions about the unprofessional management of the company. Apparently the lady is not an expert. A bit of self-criticism and thinking outside the box would be advisable, Ms. Schmidt!

Simple, good cuisine. Schnitzel, tarte flambée and sometimes something seasonal, wheat on tap. Outside, the goats are eating the first greens in spring, and you can watch the horses and riders in the riding arena. A beautiful garden in summer, really a good place for families.

We have now been to the oat box twice again. Both times it was great. I put a lot of effort into the conditions and kept an eye on everything. Food was great again. The lamb's lettuce is simply delicious. The rest too. Feel free to come back now. Older review from summer 2024 by me. Very nice yard with a beer garden. Unfortunately there were far too many tables set up for the small number of staff. Long waits for food. I ordered my second drink twice and never received it. We also waited 25 minutes for the bill. The two girls tried hard, but were under extreme pressure and had to listen to a lot. Food was good. One can only recommend to the operator that he only offers so many tables that he can serve properly.

I knew the restaurant because we had already used the delivery service and were very satisfied. We wanted to go there for lunch with our 2-year-old son because of the donkeys, goats and horses and then look at the animals, everything was beautifully located and the garden was beautiful. Now for the criticism, there was a single service person who was responsible for serving and distributing food and drinks. A young man who was visibly overwhelmed, we felt so sorry for him, he ran through the beer garden and tried very hard. But in the end it was Sunday (lunch time) and it took 40 minutes for us to get the menu, the drinks came after an hour and the food much later, the food from our son, who was of course very impatient and hungry by now, came on Ending. Incredible!!!!! There was still breakfast food lying around on the other tables and the poor guy didn't get anything. It's a shame, it's a real shame... But we won't be seen there anymore.

I've never experienced a breakfast like this before, the sausage from Aldi, cold coffee, yoghurt in plastic cups etc... everything was presented in a totally careless manner! Never again!!!! Totally overpriced! From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 34.90 per person...really outrageous! The dining room was very cold and everyone was wearing thick jackets. Very uncomfortable!

Went there for breakfast today. Unfortunately a disappointment. Starting with the cutlery. It has to be clean on the table, which wasn't the case with 2 pieces. From the wheel on the ceiling a beautiful thread of dust came down directly across the table. Coffee in the pot at the table was warm but not hot. On to the food. Eggs all cold. Bacon and sausages cold. Cheapest packet sausage and cheese. Far too little selection for the high price. Rolls were ok. Unfortunately the knives were blunt, so you raped the bread roll when you cut it open. When I asked, a sharper knife came, but I didn't use it because it was completely dirty. There was still a lot stuck to it. Price-performance doesn't fit at all. No longer recommended.

We spontaneously wanted to eat on site, unfortunately the restaurant was closed and only open for deliveries or pick-up. We were still welcomed very warmly, were allowed to choose something inside and took the food home with us. The food was very, very tasty and the portions were more than sufficient! We will definitely come back and look forward to eating there next time. There is nothing wrong with it, hence all the stars!

Besteck dreckig, Getränke abgestanden, bestellte Speisen wie die Schnitzel miserabel. Kaum Schnitzelfleisch,nur Backpanade. Leider überhaupt keine Einsicht des Personals, waren sehr unhöflich nach der Beschwerde, und die Hälfte des Essen mussten wir bezahlen. Waren davor sehr oft dort sehr gut Essen, aber dieses mal eine Katastrophe.

Have just used the delivery service (motorhome parking space). Super fast, great food, huge portions and for over 30 euros you got a delicious bottle of wine for free.

I don't even know where to start... I remembered the restaurant well from before, so we ate there. The food is schnitzel and röstiecken, frozen food, deep fryer. Very poor quality and absolutely overpriced for what you get. Service was nice and friendly, we didn't wait long for the "good food". Ikea children's chairs dirty and broken. We were there last time.

I was visiting with my daughter this evening. She had a small children's portion of fries and I had the lean Schäufele with potato salad and a small green salad. The fries came out of the fryer and were soggy! My green salad was drenched in dressing that didn't taste particularly good. The potato salad was bought and therefore tasted terrible. Parsley was also sprinkled on top. This should also be served so that the guest can sprinkle it on themselves. Then my daughter had to go to the toilet. The toilets looked terrible. I don't know when it was last cleaned properly. The waitress with the navel piercing was nice and attentive and the other one was supposed to change careers. Never again and will not be recommended!

Hello everyone This evening I had dinner at the Oat Box. The way there is easy to find. What really fascinated me was the outside area, very pleasantly designed and a nice atmosphere for eating. The service didn't keep us waiting long even though it was busy. I attach great importance to this. Drinks were on our table quickly. And for dinner there was a Black Forest flame cake and a side salad. It tasted great ;). I'm looking forward to a next visit Best regards Angelina

I made a reservation there for breakfast on May 1st, 2023 with a group of girls. Then unfortunately I became acutely ill on April 29, 2023 - so I couldn't be there. This was communicated by telephone and therefore cancelled. Now my friends had to pay for me because I didn't come. Because the shopping was done for me. Where is there something like that?? This is an absolute disgrace - this is how you scare away customers. Answer to Ms. Schmidt 7.5.23 Hello Ms. Schmidt, as already mentioned above, my participation was previously canceled by my friend by telephone and therefore cancelled. The answer on May 1st was, "It doesn't matter, they would have already bought for me." Then they could have said this in advance on the phone or pointed it out on the homepage.

We went there for brunch with a group of 12 adults and 3 children aged 4 and 8. Apparently something went wrong with the reservation despite asking 3 times! There was no more space, so we had to sit outside in the beer garden. Due to the great weather, that didn't bother us much. The tables were immediately prepared for us. What followed was pure catastrophe! The glasses were dirty, with lipstick on the rim from the previous one. The coffee cups and saucers had coffee stains all over them. The plates and cutlery were sticky and greasy! It may be that the dishwasher is not working properly, but then it needs to be rinsed again! You can't give out such dirty things to guests! The room where the food service was served stank of horses because there was a large riding stable next to it! Unfortunately the food was bottom drawer! Cheap baked rolls, ready-made meatballs from the LIDL, briefly fried, donuts defrosted from the freezer, the cheapest baked ham cut in half, slices of cheese and fish such as salmon were also on offer! The bad thing about the whole story is that everything wasn't cooled but was on normal plates! The yoghurt didn't just sit on the table chilled either! After 30 minutes the food looked like it had been there for 5 hours! Simply disgusting! I think someone doesn't have a clue about gastronomy! The service always tried hard. Not recommended from my side, we won't be coming back!

Waren auf der Durchreise und haben hier sehr schön im Biergarten zu Abend gegessen. Die Speisen waren lecker, Preis-Leistung stimmen auf jeden Fall! Der Biergarten war leider etwas ungepflegt, hier könnte man nachbessern.

If you want to eat well and eat a lot, this is the place for you. We were there today (Whitsun Sunday) with 4 people. We had 1 rump steak, 2 times the Black Forest schnitzel with bacon sauce and 1 asparagus schnitzel gratinated. We were all totally thrilled and can highly recommend these dishes. The waitresses were very friendly and accommodating. The request for the food, which was not eaten (because definitely too much), packing up was of course complied with in a friendly manner.

The old innkeeper is no longer there, it's very noticeable. We have known the Haferkasten for over 20 years and also formerly the Fahnenstube in Malterdingen, which belong to the winery. It used to be special to have brunch here and the food was excellent. Now the economy is run down, unkempt, the playground no longer exists, ancient, holey tablecloths, tattered menus……. The quality of the food is poor, an absolute disgrace that they don't even make fried potatoes anymore, which belong on every WuBiBrä plate, but instead they are replaced by ready-made fried pieces. The menu has shrunk extremely. The service was friendly but incompetent (no cutlery on the table, no asking for drinks...) You shouldn't try by hook or by crook to keep a restaurant open that has seen its best times without being prepared to invest something in it. That's really a shame.

It was very full and nothing would have happened without a table reservation. So there was a longer wait, but that wasn't a bad thing. We were pleasantly surprised when the delicious food arrived. Everything was very good. We would love to come back...

The beer garden is beautifully located, a breath of fresh air could come through inside, but it's ok. The service staff are nice. The food is at the typical rustic German restaurant level: large portions of mediocre quality and taste. But the schnitzels were left alone. They were dry, tough, didn't seem fresh and were almost completely leftover. Even drowned in sauce they didn't want to taste it. This was also communicated when asked. It was irritating to still be charged the full price. My experience was different, but I wanted to save the young service team and I any negotiations about it.

Ordered 3 different dishes, everything was very tasty. It wasn't the last time we were there.

Service quite friendly. Kitchen could be better. They should also be able to add more if something goes out at brunch for the price.

If you like old German cuisine, you've come to the right place

I've eaten there several times over the years. And I have to say, if you honestly like German home cooking, this is the right place for you. Our food came to the table hot and quickly. The restaurant is attached to a riding arena and you can watch the riders while you eat. Definitely a nice thing for horse lovers. The shop has been decorated with love and seems warm to me. Our waitress Steffi was super friendly and incredibly attentive. I would say eat like with friends. The food itself was great. No frills, just a big portion of delicious food. A bit much for me, but no one forces you to eat everything on your plate. And of course you can have the rest packed up. My fried potatoes, Brägele, were very tasty and worth the extra money. And finally a few words about the prices. My meal in the picture was worth every penny. Apparently the tax increase was not passed on to customers. I will definitely go there again because stores like this need to be supported. Certainly an insider tip in winter.

Es lohnt sich auf jeden Fall, im Haferkasten essen zu gehen. Eine wirklich schöne Wirtschaft mit großem Biergarten und einem herrlichen Ambiente neben dem Reitstall. Die Portionen sind groß und sehr lecker. Wir kommen immer gerne und sind mit dem freundlich Service mehr als zufrieden

Ein kulinarisches Erlebnis der Extraklasse! Das Wildgulasch im Haferkasten überzeugt durch zartes Fleisch, eine köstliche Soße mit frischen Pilzen und die besondere Note von leckeren Birnen. Ein absolutes Highlight für Feinschmecker! Der Vorspeise Salat war sauber und Frisch, die Soße dazu einzigartig👍🏽 5 Sterne definitiv verdient.

Feldsalat mit Ziegenkäse "im Speckmantel" - eine Frechheit zu dem Preis. Der Salat war entweder ungeputzt oder der Putzer blind. Ein paar croutons im Semmelbröselbett. Zum billigen Stück Ziegenfrischkäse gabs zu lang gebratene Speckstreifen... Dazu ein unfreundlicher, unpünktlicher Fahrer. Bei Lieferando bestellt, nie wieder!

Sind vom Festival heimgekommen und wollten die „Erste ordentliche Mahlzeit“ wohl überlegen. Sind voller Erwartungen hier her gekommen und wurden nicht enttäuscht. Die Servicekräfte sind freundlich und das Essen war trotz regem Betrieb zügig da, es hat fabelhaft geschmeckt!! Ich kann das „Schwarzwälderschnitzel mit Spätzle“ nur empfehlen 😊

Wir waren bei Blue sie of town und es war super toll. Eir werden da immer wieder hin gehen. Tolles Ambuente u gutes Essen, grosse Portionen u nicht teuer.

Eine 2.chance bekommen innerhalb 4 Wochen Essen ist eigentlich ganz ok. Service Kräfte total überfordert obwohl der Laden nur halbvoll war. Bringen einiges durcheinander oder wird was vergessen. Sind vermutlich alles minijober und sehr jung. Vermutlich bekommt der Chef keine Fachkräfte weil er nicht gut entlohnt. So kann man Die Kundschaft auch verjagen. Sollte dringend ein umdenken bei den Verantwortlichen stattfinden.

Mein Großer Salatteller war eher ein mittlerer und die Pfifferlinge musste ich suchen. Geschmacklich auch nicht gerade der Hit, aber ich hatte Hunger. Das Lokal werde ich weder empfehlen, noch es selbst noch einmal besuchen. Und der Preis fast 18 Euro fand ich persönlich, da passt die Leistung nicht absolut nicht zum Preis.

Brunch ist empfehlenswert. Preis + Leistung stimmt absolut Essen ist sehr vielfältig. Sehr freundlicher Service Wir hatten eine kleine Familienfeier mit Brunch und waren alle begeistert. War in der Wirtschaft eingedeckt, jedoch wollten wir lieber in den hellen Wintergarten sitzen. War kein Problem und wurde spontan umgedeckt. Danke - gerne wieder :-)

Hier sind nicht nur Reiter, sondern auch Biker herzlich willkommen! Wir kommen immer wieder gerne um vom netten Team im schönen Biergarten leckere Schnitzel und Flammkuchen zu essen.

Sehr nette Bedienung, kinderfreundlich Essen war sehr lecker und wurde zügig serviert. Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder🤗

man bekommt große gute Portionen Essen ist ok Aber das traurige ist das die Mitarbeiter sich mit Parfum einsprühen und der Geruch. Nimmt das Essen auch an Das ein sprühen von Parfum hat an so einem Arbeitsplatz nichts zu suchen oder wie man sich sagen kann nichts zu riechen

Essen war lecker aber leider mussten wir 75 Minuten auf unser Essen warten. Dann kam zuerst die Hauptspeise und der Salat viel später. Am Nachbartisch das gleiche nur kam da die Suppe nach dem Hauptgang ( Bedienung wurde mehrfach nach der Suppe gefragt). Und es war wirklich nicht viel los im Restaurant was die Wartezeit etwas gerechtfertigt hätte. An zwei Tischen sind die Gäste sogar nach einer Weile wieder aufgestanden und gegangen ohne etwas bestellt zu haben. Echt schade aber werden nicht so schnell wieder kommen.

Tolle Lokation, schön Abseits des Rummels, mit einer schönen Anlage mit Pferden, Eseln, Ziegen und weiteren Getier. Freundlichen und sympathische Bedienung und odenständige Küche. Schnitzel mit Pilzen, Spätzle und Bratensauce. Dazu einen Salat...lecker und das Preisleistungsverhältnis ok 👌. Danke, wir kommen gerne wieder. Bitte weiter so. Grüsse Frank (Deutsche Glasfaser)

Wir haben einen superschönen Abend in lockerem Ambiente verbracht. Sehr leckeres Essen, große Portionen und eine freundliche, sehr aufmerksame Bedienung! Sehr zu empfehlen! Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder!!!

Toller Service. Wir waren am 4.05.23 dort und wurden von einer sehr freundlichen Dame bedient. Essen kam zügig und war wirklich hervorragend. Sehr zu empfehlen und jederzeit wieder.

Frühstücken bis zum platzen. Ich habe noch nie ein so riesiges Buffet erlebt. Es ist einfach alles dabei..Lachs, Ei, Weißwürste, Obstsalat, Brötchen, Müsli, Joghurt, Nudelsuppe, natürlich Brötchen etc., Donuts, Käse und Wurst…. Sekt und O-Saft so viel man trinken kann. Meine Oma war total begeistert von Ihrem Geburtstagsgeschenk. Ich kann es nur empfehlen.

Schade der Service und das Entgegenkommen des Chefs lässt zu wünschen übrig! Haben einen Mädelstag geplant, den ich leider wegen Scharlach von meinem Sohn und mir absagen musste. Meine Mädels haben mich gerade angerufen und gesagt das sie meine 25 € voll mitbezahlen mussten. Haben versucht das mit dem Chef wohl noch zu klären, der meine aber wohl, er müsse ja auch einkaufen. Hab ich ja vollstes Verständnis dafür. Kann ja aber das nächste Mal mitkommen und alle anstecken!! Vielleicht ist das besser. Als Tipp an den Chef wenn ich das Essen schon bezahlen muss, wäre es vielleicht gut das Essen dann auch mitzugeben! Schließlich muss ich ja auch dafür bezahlen!

Wir haben als Gruppe einen Tisch reserviert zum Frühstücken. 2 Personen sind leider krankheitsbedingt ausgefallen, eine davon hatten wir 2 Tage vorher storniert, die andere viel kurzfristig aus. Als es ans bezahlen ging wurden wir zum Chef zitiert. Wir hätten die anderen 2 Personen mit zu bezahlen. Eine absolute Frechheit. Sowas ist mir noch nie unter gekommen, die ganze Grup pe ist stinksauer. Keiner von uns geht je mehr in eine ihrer Lokalitäten. Ein Punkt für Ihre Dreistigkeit
