Govardhan- Pure Vegetarian and Vegan Restaurant in Köln

Yesterday I was at Govardhan again for a long time. I decided on the butter “chicken” with my daughter. Both vegan and veggie are very tasty. Plus the very friendly staff... I'll be coming back more often now.

One of the fantastic Indian Restaurants I have visited out of India. The owner is very very accommodating. The taste was good. The food was light and tasty. Completely vegetarian and Sattvic

Very friendly and accommodating, not to mention all the delicious food for a good price. €10.90 all you can eat buffet on weekdays!!! The mango lassie was also so yummy and had nice bamboo straws… would recommend this cute restaurant.

I can completely recommend the restaurant. This Tuesday I was there for the buffet and was able to choose from a selection of delicious dishes. The food is very tasty and the service staff is very friendly. The Indian music in the background also fit well.

The food was very, very tasty and very spicy. (When ordering, however, you should specify that you don't want it to be spicy, because some things are inherently very spicy for some people). The staff was really very nice and responded to requests.

We’ve been to India a few times, we’ve had Indian food in many different places. And this is the WORST we’ve ever had. The taste of the both dishes was stale, without any taste of spices, (using a lot of different spices is typical in Indian cuisine). Paneer has a strange taste. Service was friendly though. But we will not go there again.

I think it's worth eating there as a purely vegetarian restaurant - preferably a little more seasoned / but even so it's authentic and very tolerable

The best Indian restaurant I've seen in Germany. Everything was really like it would be in a good restaurant in India. The ambience, the service, the taste and the use of spices were simply outstanding and authentic. I usually have very high standards, especially when it comes to Indian cuisine, and this is the first time that they have been met. If you order the food in “spicy”, you get exactly what you would get in India. Since the restaurant is also well versed in Ayurveda, you can be sure that your body will tolerate the food well and that you will even do something good for it

My husband and I have been loyal to Govardhan for many, many years. We had our first date there, our wedding reception and our little child got his absolute favorite dish there. There is the very best, fluffiest, fragrant rice, tender, fruity mango chili curry, juicy vegetable patties and an absolutely special and delicately spiced tomato cream sauce, to name just a few of our long-standing favorite dishes. The food is so finely tuned that I don't feel "flat" afterwards but have more energy. There is a large selection of Ayurvedic spices, important cooking ingredients, books, teas and even things like Ayurvedic toothpaste to buy at reasonable prices. It's always very interesting to browse there. The owner is very warm, happy to explain the background to his dishes and products and creates a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere with his calm and warm manner. Even though we now live very far away from Cologne, a visit to Govardhan is a must for us and always worthwhile. Thank you Zaani for your delicious and comforting food.

Very good restaurant. The food is very good. They serve a very spicy sauce. And the staff is very nice.

I got a surprise box worth 15 euros from too good to go. But this was only worth at most the 5 euros I paid at too good to go. When I kindly pointed this out to the waiter, he cheekily said that the packaging also costs money. The packaging which is worth about 10 cents at the wholesale market. Unfortunately, the little food that didn't even fill me up didn't taste good either. The rice was dry. The vegetables are also very unspectacular and dry. The shop is very stingy and can't recommend the food.

This restaurant is like an oasis in a desert for pure vegetarian people. This restaurant is one of the reason for happily completing a road trip across Europe with my parents who can’t eat in veg/non-veg restaurants. The Prasad was amazing and thanks to the proprietors for this experience.

There is no restaurant in Cologne whose food I tolerate better. All dishes are fresh, healthy and super tasty. No matter whether vegetarian or vegan. Whether à la carte or as an all-you-can-eat lunch or evening buffet. And all at fair prices. Ultra-friendly multilingual operators. One of my favorite restaurants in Cologne.

Service was good, but food wasn't really tasty!

Hopeless. Stale & smelly food. We ordered for dal makhani, malaikofta , gobi matar, raita and chapati. Everything was stale and no taste.

I ordered via “To good to go” and picked it up. The food was hot and freshly packaged, good portion, very tasty. For my taste it's not that cozy there, but you can sit and eat there quite reasonably, just a nice place for a romantic dinner 😉😄 Highly recommended and very nice owner!

Friendly staff and food was good. Chef was also kind enough to provide to our requirements. Food was served at quick time. Falafel wrap was so filling. Overall good choice for vegetarian food around this place.

Very good restaurant! The menus are very good value for money with a starter, main course and dessert. To take away and eat there. The ambience deducts one star... you could sit a little softer... but that's negligible. Gladly again and again! Great recommendation if you like Indian!

As usual friendly, freshly prepared food. The only disadvantage: no outside catering. After 10 p.m. in summer, you can go to Rathenau Platz, which is within walking distance.

Ten of us were there spontaneously in the summer and were looked after very well. The owner was very friendly, responded well to our requests and the food was extremely tasty. The best thing was that we were able to eat gluten-free without worry, as the owner is perfectly knowledgeable about celiac disease for family reasons! Real tip for everyone who relies on vegan and gluten-free! The ambience is more of a snack bar than a restaurant, but absolutely feels good.

Really recommend this place... Food was amazing and felt like having home cooked food... owners were really warm and welcoming... we ordered some take away food for kids and they packed it really well and also helped us warm the milk for kids and gave away tissue box for kids... overall, really good experience and would recommend anyone visiting Cologne should visit here for food and hospitality

Very good food. Sathvic and doesn't cause any harm to your stomach. I have always loved visiting this restaurant. The buffet is pretty good and worthy enough to go for it.

Horrible food, I ordered Palak Paneer which was made without grinding or cutting palak leaves, Malai kofta had big potato balls and the chapati was very dry and hard difficult to say it was of wheat flour.. Waste of 50 euros.

Favorite Vegetarian/Vegan Restaurant!! If you are looking for authentic homestyle Indian food then this is the right place! Nostalgia hit hard the moment I took the first bite of Dal and Rice. I have eaten at various places in NRW region but have never come across such a nice nice and warm "homestyle" Indian restaurant. If you're reading this, please visit this place and try the "all you can eat" buffet priced at 14€ (weekends). The owner is a very friendly person and serves food as if he's doing a "service to the society". This Indian gesture is reminiscent of my home. Regarding the food, it is a great bargain to eat such healthy and nutritious food as much as you want for 14€ (on weekdays, it is around 10€). All of it is very delicious! I took 3 servings of almost everything and ate to my heart's delight. They accept EC cards ONLY along with cash (bargeld). Shower some love to this place coz I feel it is very underrated. As an Indian, I feel this is a hidden gem. P.S - If you're a vegan or vegetarian, this place is truly a blessing.

Das Essen ist wirklich sehr sehr gut. Die Atmosphäre ist familiär und freundlich willkommen. Die Räumlichkeiten sind schön gestaltet und sauber. Wir kommen immer wieder gern her.

Riesige Auswahl veganer und vegetarischer Gerichte zu fairen Preisen. Das Personal ist extrem freundlich und offen.

Das Restaurant wird nur von einer Servicekraft und einer Köchin geführt. Die beiden machen es trotzdem sehr gut. Beim Buffet war nie ein Gericht leer. Zum Thema Buffet muss ich allerdings sagen, dass ich die Auswahl zu gering fande. Dafür waren die Sachen allesamt lecker. Die Beschriftung, vegetarisch oder vegan wird sehr konsequent geführt.

Schon unzählige Male da gewesen und jedesmal war das Essen super lecker und frisch zubereitet.

beim Schlendern durch die Stadt sind wir auf den Laden gestossen und haben uns für das Buffet-Angebot entschieden. Beim Platznehmen merkten wir, dass es kein Buffet zu sehen war, und gingen davon aus, dass wir es am Tisch bestellen müssten. Als der Kellner uns dann sagte, wir sollten nach vorne kommen und uns am Buffet bedienen, waren wir verwundert und dachten, es sei ein Witz oder wir hätten eine Ecke oder Ähnliches übersehen. Als er uns dann mitnahm zur Kasse, waren dort 8 Gerichte aufgestellt und da dachten wir nur wow, ist das ein Witz? Die Speisen lagen bereits seit Stunden auf den warmhaltenden Platten und waren kaum noch heiß. Dadurch hatte das Essen nicht nur an Geschmack, sondern auch an Frische verloren. Insbesondere die Hauptgerichte waren kalt und teilweise sogar trocken. Es schien, als wären sie schon seit längerer Zeit zubereitet worden und nur noch zum Aufwärmen aufbewahrt worden. Das Essen wurde mit Wasser gestreckt, aus einer Kanne! Des Weiteren ließ die Qualität der Speisen zu wünschen übrig. Es fehlte an Vielfalt und Originalität, die man von einem indischen Restaurant erwarten würde. Zusammenfassend kann ich sagen, dass das Buffet in diesem indischen Restaurant keine Empfehlung verdient. Mich wundert es nur wie dieser Laden so positiv Bewertung erhalten hat ... Wenn ihr noch nie indisch gegessen habt bitte nicht dieses Restaurant probieren ! Geht dann bitte lieber zu: 1.Ganesha ! Oder 2. flavour of India Zumindest wird da noch teils aufwendig und authentisch gekocht !

Ein indisches vegetarisch- veganes Restaurant mit ayurvedischen Küche in der Roonstr.(Nähe Barbarossa Platz) in Köln. Die Speisen waren jedesmal lecker. Zur Zeit gibt es abends auch Buffet, "all you can eat" Die Karte hat sich auch etwas geändert. Ich freue mich jedesmal dort hinzugehen. Auf jedenfall eine Empfehlung wert.

Das Gemüse war zwar frisch aber leider passte der Rest nicht. Es wurde viel mit Wasser gestreckt wodurch die Würze die eigentlich in Indien enorm und sehr lecker ist auf einem Gaumen reduziert der dieser Küche leider nicht gerecht wird :( bitte habt mehr Mut und zeigt was Indien wirklich drauf hat ;)

Tolles kleines indisches Restaurant, das hervorragend vegane, vegetarische und vor allem auch glutenfrei Speisen zubereitet. Kennen sich hervorragend mit glutenfreier Ernährung aus, auch wenn das nicht aus der Karte hervorgeht. Top!

They don't take any VISA or Master Card only local card. One item took for ever. Food was not according to 4.7 *. It may be good for non Indian people. Best of luck.

They say it’s Jain food , no ghee is used but with lot of oil for rice and Pulao. It’s better to avoid this restaurant especially Indians. For the rest of the people it might taste good .

Von dem indischem Essen bei Govardhan hatte ich mir wesentlich mehr erwartet, insbesondere auch wegen der recht guten Bewertungen. Aber sowohl meine Begleitung als auch ich fanden fast alle Speisen laff, fade, öde, weil viel zu wenig gewürzt. Ich hab schon viel probiert, südindische, nordindische, pakistanische, tibetische Küche, auch in Indien, aber die Speisen bei Govardhan schmeckte eher nach Schonkost. Ich werde nicht wieder hingehen, auch wenn wir freundlich bedient wurden und der Laden sauber wirkt.

Good food, nice on stomach and very decent pricing. To add more to it : it's a pure vegetarian place (for Indian food)- very rare to find in Europe. The owner is nice and courteous. Overall very happy with the place and the food. Best wishes to them. P.S.: I wish they had a restaurant in Amsterdam as well.

Sympathisches kleines Restaurant, welches wohl nicht ohne Grund seit 20 Jahren mit diesem Konzept sein Auskommen hat. 5 Sterne für das Alleinstellungsmerkmal, 4 Sterne für Geschmack und Atmo, 3 Sterne für die Auswahl. Da das aber weitestgehend vorher bekannt und zudem auch äußerst preiswert, ist tendiere ich eigentlich zu 4,4 Sternen, aber das ist ja hier leider nicht möglich.

Wir waren schon oft hier und wurden bisher nie enttäuscht. Es ist immer sehr lecker und die Preise sind wirklich angemessen. Auch die Atmosphäre ist einladend. Angenehm ruhig und in der Luft liegt der Duft von Gewürzen, der die Vorfreude auf das Essen weckt. Zu empfehlen ist das Buffet, aber auch das Thali lässt keine Wünsche offen!

Ich muss gleich vorab sagen, dass es echt darauf ankommt, was man bestellt. Wir hatten eine Platte mit Teigtaschen, Falafeln und Gemüsefrikadellen mit zwei Dips. Die waren geschmacklich top. Auch die Bratkartoffeln mit dem speziellen Gewürz haben uns sehr gut geschmeckt. Leider konnte die Gemüsereispfanne, das Naanbrot und die Suppe geschmacklich nicht mithalten. Auch den Preis für das Reisgemüsegericht fand ich ein wenig zu hoch.

Unglaublich leckeres Essen zu guten Preisen. Wir waren zum Mittagsbuffet hier und ich werde auf jeden fall wiederkommen:)

Ein Geheimtipp tatsächlich!!! Die Mitarbeiter sind suuuper nett. Man hört ihr gerne zu. Alles sehr klein und übersichtlich gehalten. Das Essen ist auch sehr sehr lecker. Dieses Jahr das beste was ich gegessen habe.

Zum Mittagessen mit Buffet da. Generell nettes Personal, leider nicht aufmerksam. Bei uns waren einige Tische nicht sauber etc. Essen ok, aber tw. Meerwasser langweilig vom Geschmack für indisches Essen. Ich kann es nur sehr eingeschränkt empfehlen.

Bestellvorgang ist etwas kompliziert. Bei Wolt gibt es andere Angebote als bei Lieferando. Komisch... Essen war gut, Portionen aber definitiv zu klein für einen Mann und für den Preis. Wäre super wenn das optimiert wird. Dann werde ich wieder bestellen.
