Good food, friendly staff, good value for money.

Yesterday, the four of us spontaneously decided to have dinner here. The food and drinks were delicious. The staff were incredibly friendly and fun. The restaurant was very cozy. We'll be back again tomorrow. We highly recommend it.

We've been visiting the Kartoffelhaus (Potato House) in Görlitz for our anniversary for the past three years, and every time it feels like coming home. The cozy ambiance, the warm and welcoming atmosphere, and of course, the fantastic food make each visit truly special. The menu really offers something for everyone: from light snacks to hearty classics and sweet, lovingly prepared desserts. Every dish is fresh, incredibly delicious, and prepared with palpable passion. Here, you can tell that quality and hospitality are paramount. The absolute highlight of our visit, however, is our server, Ms. Ellen Heinze. From the moment you enter the restaurant, she makes you feel welcome. With her friendliness, warmth, and charming humor, she creates an atmosphere like being at Grandma and Grandpa's table—familiar, warm, and simply wonderful. She truly enhances the entire Kartoffelhaus experience. We're already looking forward to our next visit to the Kartoffelhaus; it's a must for us every year and a definite recommendation for every visitor to Görlitz! ... The food was mostly tasty, but a 1.5-hour wait was really long, especially since one of us changed his mind after being told his food would take 40 minutes to prepare... only to then have to wait even longer for it. Also, a steak ordered medium was completely well-done...

A lot of the comments here are from people who showed up expecting to be seated when in fact it is a popular restaurant and like many popular restaurants, you need to make a reservation if you want to be guaranteed a seat! After a couple of rejections, on the 3rd try going a little early with a small party we got a table. The decor and atmosphere is very rustic German with waitresses wearing traditional dress and what not. I can speak a bit of German, but luckily our waitress had good English so there were no misunderstandings. Food was delicious and plentiful, meat and potatoes and cooked vegetables. And good local beer to wash it down. A nice experience overall, I rank it 4/5.

After so many positive reviews and considering the prices, we expected something delicious. The food was rather average, but the schnitzels... generally looked different from the photos of other reviewers and tasted hopeless, like the cheapest pre-made ones from the store. The Wiener schnitzel wasn't even close to being good. We were amused when we looked back at the review where someone heard the cutlets being smashed and fried, as the food arrives in the elevator and is collected by the staff. The restaurant is pleasantly decorated, and the staff is helpful.

The ambiance is beautiful and unique, and the value for money is absolutely perfect. The food was truly first-class; the presentation of the dishes was lovely, the portions were very generous, and the taste of the dishes we chose was simply superb! The service was incredibly friendly; you could really tell that the staff were passionate about their work and had truly mastered the profession. If we didn't live so far away, we would have been regulars long ago!

The atmosphere of the place... Well, there's no accounting for taste, but it's probably not to my taste. It's a mixed bag. Unfortunately, the staff doesn't speak English. The food is very good. I'd go back again because it was truly delicious. I've eaten at Śląskie Niebieski twice, and this one definitely stands out.

The waitress assigned me a table right next to the entrance, even though there was clearly space inside. I felt unwelcome and quickly went to another restaurant. Perhaps I misunderstood her, but she was unfriendly and didn't seem to intend to seat me.

We had reserved a table. Unfortunately, we had to wait a long time for our table and also for the food. The service was friendly nonetheless. The food was tasty overall, except for the kangaroo steak, which was very tough.

The atmosphere was fantastic, the service (we happened to have a Polish lady) was very friendly. I had a potato with tzatziki sauce. I was expecting something better, but it wasn't bad. I recommend it.

A very atmospheric place. The food is 10/10. The goulash in beer sauce and the beef roulade are excellent. Plus, the local beer and local schnapps. The prettiest waitress is a fellow countrywoman.

A good, regional restaurant where almost all the dishes and drinks revolve around potatoes. Cozy, decorated with many collectibles. The restaurant is located in a historic building in the city center. The food was delicious. The service was friendly. Reservations are essential, and you should allow plenty of time. The price-performance ratio is okay.

Despite many reservations, there were still two seats available for my wife and me. After a short wait, a waitress came and took our order. Very friendly service and delicious potato-based dishes. The portions were so large, it was hard to finish everything. But we still managed. All in all, a successful evening in a very comfortably furnished restaurant. We would happily return.

The Kartoffelhaus in Görlitz is definitely worth a visit. Everything potato-related is served here, and it tastes simply delicious. Even the "simple potato soup" is a delight. So wonderfully seasoned and with a dreamy consistency. Man, it was delicious. The soup is served with a beautiful baguette and a tasty dip. The location is fun, and you'll need plenty of time to absorb all the decor. There's interesting information about potatoes everywhere, and the friendly service rounds out the visit. We'll be back. If only for the soup.

The foil-wrapped potatoes are boiled, not baked. Furthermore, it's the wrong type for this type of dish. The long wait was culminated in a mistake in the order.

Delicious food. Schnitzels aren't made from deep fat, but from a frying pan. The sounds of pounding and frying meat can be heard from the kitchen. One was slightly burnt, but still delicious. Local beer. Friendly service. Reasonable prices. Second visit and certainly not the last.

This restaurant is well located in a side street in downtown Görlitz. You can sit outside. However, the two waitresses were very rude. We waited over an hour for our food, even though it wasn't busy at first and the place was only slowly filling up. Other groups that arrived before us received their food much earlier. When we asked if we had perhaps been forgotten, the waitress with the tattoo on her right arm just snapped at us and said it was just busy. After another 10 minutes, we wanted to pay for our drinks and leave because we had already waited an hour and 20 minutes. Then another waitress came with our food. It tasted okay, but the previous poor service, including her unfriendliness, made it half the fun. Maybe also because the waitress noticed we were from a different region. - maybe not. Not recommended for visitors who want to feel comfortable; you can also find delicious food with good service. We won't be back.

We didn't have a reservation but were still given a table even though it was very busy. It seems to be a popular location in Görlitz. Despite it being full, the service was friendly and attentive. The food was great - lots of choice with different potato variations at a fair price. We can only recommend it if you're in Görlitz.

Very good service. Unfortunately, the food is very poor. I don't know if I would even serve something like that to customers. The potato with sauerkraut and pork neck was a floury, tasteless, half-cold potato. The cabbage tasted like it had been rinsed under the tap and bought at the supermarket. Three of the cheapest ingredients combined without flavor, sauce, joy, and heart. The schnitzel was average. The Silesian dish was disappointing.

The restaurant is in a nice location in the old town center of a German tourist city. It has many tables outside, and most of them were full. ​We went inside to find a table. A waitress saw us but did not speak to us. We sat down, and she came and was angry. She spoke only German and was rude. We asked her to speak English, but she said "no" in German and left. She never came back. ​This restaurant is not for people who do not speak German. In Europe, it is bad to not speak English. The service was very poor.

We were here yesterday and made another reservation for today. This restaurant is simply fantastic. The staff are super friendly and always ready for a joke, and they also make recommendations and explain things in detail if you have any questions. The food: Wow. Simply wow. The kangaroo steak is simply delicious; I've never experienced such quality before. The special potato house pan is perfect for those with a big appetite, and there's also something for those with a lighter appetite. The potato soup is beautifully creamy and flavorful. In general, the food is well-seasoned and beautifully presented. The restaurant is top-notch German cuisine and has a great decor that matches it perfectly. The restroom on the upper floor is also accessible by elevator, ensuring it's wheelchair accessible.

After spending the day driving from Krakow, we attempted to get some food from this so-called restaurant. The service was hilariously bad, genuinely the rudest most ill-tempered and sour-faced waitress ever experienced (and we've eaten at the Wong Kei!). She told us we weren't allowed to sit indoors, so we sat outdoors but she said we must move to a shared table, and then that the kitchen was now closed so no food available, all the time muttering curses under her breath. I felt sorry for her, how she can be a waitress is hard to believe, it was difficult to be offended, you could only really smile. Reading the reviews here, I see some others have had a similar experience. Good luck if you venture in, even if you don't get fed you will be entertained.

Friendly staff and solid, well-portioned food. However, you'll need time and patience. Even the drinks take a while to arrive. This is probably due to the fact that there were only two employees for the size of the restaurant. The food was delicious, and everything had an older, yet rustic charm. I'd be happy to return.

Great restaurant. The decor was a perfect fit, and the menu perfectly matched the ambiance. Everything revolved around potatoes. They even serve beer and schnapps. I had kangaroo, my wife had trout. Both the fish and the meat were excellent in flavor, but a bit dry. It was cooked for too long. Medium. More kangaroo would have been great, but the trout was also overcooked. Overall, though, a great menu, and the service was very attentive. It was a pleasure to be here. Thank you for this wonderful evening.

Plus the design is very carefully thought out and made, it is very pleasant to sit, a lot of separate sectors for companies of different sizes. It is clear that it is designed for tourists, but it seems that it is for its own, German tourists. The food was very tasty, the waitresses were attentive and welcoming, the local beer is wonderful.

I'm 45 years old and have worked in the restaurant industry for years. I can say with complete conviction: I've never experienced anything like today in all my years. The five of us arrived at Kartoffelhaus and politely asked for another menu. The waitress replied: "You have two menus, like every other table." Without eye contact, without any emotion. It was the first moment when I froze inside. What followed was a series of situations that left me speechless. Every question from other guests was answered sharply and almost aggressively. I sat there, reading the menu, and rereading it because I couldn't take anything in. I was actually in a kind of shock. You might know that: You read a sentence ten times, but nothing registers because the experience overshadows everything else. My parents finally asked me not to say anything because they were afraid of an escalation. Yes, fear. I think that says it all. I don't know whether it was the boss or "just" an employee. If the latter, as the owner, it would be imperative to react. It wasn't just a bad day or an unfriendly moment; it was a consistent, icy dominance of guests, the likes of which I've truly never experienced before. If it was the boss, I have some ideas for becoming happier in life. I'm not writing this review lightly. I'm not someone who vents online or immediately grabs a keyboard. But after this experience, I feel it's necessary to let other people know what to expect. We ordered food afterward. But honestly, at that moment, it was irrelevant. To be fair here too: the food was pleasant. We definitely didn't enjoy it. At least I know where I won't eat in Görlitz anymore.

The service was extremely friendly, and the food came quickly. The fried potatoes were pitch black, completely burnt, and accordingly extremely bitter. Not just one or two, but almost all of them on all four plates. The beef roulades were also somehow strange and ruined. The meat had hardly any flavor, barely any salt or pepper. What does your chef actually do for a living? The bottom line: never again!

Make a reservation in advance, friendly staff, delicious food

The atmosphere is lovely, tastefully decorated, and not noisy. I've been for dinner twice, and all the dishes I've tried have been excellent, both times accompanied by Saxon wine. Special mention for the huge homemade meat roll, a true delight. The staff is friendly and always smiling. The prices are fair for the quality offered. An extra point for the kitchen being open after 7:00 PM (a rarity in the area).
