Goldenes Posthorn in Nürnberg

It's a shame what has become of the Golden Posthorn. Simply no longer recommended. This is probably due to the manners of the couple who run the restaurant, which were similarly unpleasant in other (former) restaurants.

The traditional cuisine impresses with Franconian specialties such as schäufele and original Nürnberger bratwürste. The prices are reasonable. The staff is attentive, and on sunny days, you can enjoy sitting outside. A visit is highly recommended for anyone who wants to experience regional cuisine in a historic setting.

This is just about a waiter who is probably from Italy. Very unfriendly and nasty. We were very hungry and went to this restaurant for lunch. Beforehand, we bought a scoop of ice cream on the way and the moment we found the table in the restaurant, we were almost finished with the ice cream and were holding almost empty cups in our hands. The waiter, without greeting us, first made a remark that “we are not allowed to eat ice cream here”. To which I replied, we are actually there for dinner. Again the waiter said in an absolutely unfriendly tone: “You can only eat ice cream here if you order it from us”. Well, we ate lunch somewhere else.

At €22 I can expect the goose leg to be crispy...

Unfortunately, overall it's just average when it comes to food, ambience and service. Given the history of the house, I expected more. After all, it is quite cheap. I had braised ox cheeks in juniper cream sauce with glazed grapes and napkin dumplings for 16.50 euros (March 2025).

Delicious food, local dishes from local products, an extensive menu, so you can easily choose a dish. The service was very nice, the location was a bit out of the way, so it was quiet and peaceful. Beer from a local brewery.

This is the most delicious German food I have ever eaten. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is nice and the service is also very good.

A very unfriendly and child-unfriendly employee. We wanted to quickly change our daughter's diaper and weren't guests. So I specifically asked an employee beforehand if that was okay, as it was cold outside. The employee said yes and pointed us to the women's restroom. When I returned, an older employee stopped me at the door and asked me if I was serious about changing my child here as a non-guest. She said it was outrageous and utterly disgusted. I was so shocked by this child-unfriendly behavior and have never experienced anything like it in 10 months of motherhood.

A restaurant steeped in history. The Posthorn impresses with its excellent food, top-notch service, charming ambiance, and prime location. Anyone visiting Nuremberg should take a break and enjoy the experience.

Als gebürtiger Nürnberger wollte ich gern 12 statt 6 Bratwürste und bestellte das Brot bei meiner Bestellung, von Kartoffelsalat,! ab! Ich fragte noch extra den Kellner, wieviel eine Bratwurst hierbei kosten würde und erhielt als Preis 1 Euro genannt, soweit so gut, zumindest dachte ich dies, bis zur Lieferung des Essens. Hierbei fiel auf, daß sowohl Kartoffelsalat, wie bestellt, aber auch Brot (trotz Abbestellung) geliefert wurde. Meine Bemerkung, daß ich das Brot abbestellt hatte, interessierte den Kellner so überhaupt nicht, was er mit der Bemerkung "ist sowieso dabei" abtat!?, verstand ich aber erst später. Bei der Rechnung wurde auch nicht etwa ein Abschlag (für das nicht gewünschte Brot) abgezogen sondern munter aufaddiert: "Normaler Preis" = 11,50€ + 6X1,50€ (Bratwürste Stck !1,5€!) = 9€ + Kartoffelsalat 3€ = 23,50€, was sich nur noch als Touri-Abzocke für 12 Bratwürste bezeichnen läßt !!! Der "Kunde" muß dafür büßen, daß man nicht frei zusammenstellen kann, wieviele Bratwürste man möchte (mit klarer Preisstruktur) und die Beilagen ebenfalls frei wählen kann (bei klarer Preisstruktur!). Daher KEINE EMPFEHLUNG FÜR DIESES LOKAL! Gehen Sie besser 150 Meter weiter näher zum Hauptmarkt, hier können Sie frei wählen und wenn Sie eine Brezel dazu nehmen möchten zahlen Sie auch nur diese Brezel extra!!!

The meat is tender and delicious. It's a little salty and there's a lot of sauce in the salad.

Great Franconian food & beer in the heart of Nuremberg. The outside terrace is on a small plaza behind St. Sebald church, which makes for a picturesque meal.

We ate here twice within 2 days! On both days we were warmly welcomed by the boss and shown to the table. The service was very friendly both times and the food and drinks came very quickly. Nuremberg bratwursts, bratwurst dumplings, Schäufele and duck leg are highly recommended dishes.

We celebrated our civil wedding there and were there for dinner and to discuss the celebration. The Krestel couple are super polite and accommodating. The service was top and so was the food. Everything worked out great as discussed. We were also able to design everything flexibly. Can only be recommended. We always enjoy coming back.

We were lucky and got a table for two without a reservation. And I was even luckier that the cabbage wraps were available that day. They were very tasty. The Schäufle was also tender and crispy on the outside. The waiter was very attentive and friendly. A recommendation for Nuremberg from our side. The Golden Posthorn is also very centrally located.

Yesterday I was in Nuremberg with a friend. We discovered this restaurant by chance. We were able to sit outside. Our snacks (Nuremberger bratwurst and Obazder) were very, very good. Above all, there was great bread with it. Thanks also to the very nice and friendly service! It's just a lot of fun! We would love to come back!

Waren heute gegen 13.00 Uhr im Goldenen Posthorn. Sehr Uhrig das Lokal. Bedienung sehr freundlich. Nach nur 10 Minuten kam das Tagesgericht. Kalbsbraten mit Waldpilz Rahmsoße und rohen Kartoffelklößen. Sehr lecker geschmeckt.

We had a company event with 20 people. Right from the start, Mr. Krestel welcomed us warmly and the super friendly wait staff looked after us very well. Everyone always made sure that we didn't lack anything. The food was excellent. Franconian cuisine at its best. Only recommended. During a trip to Nuremberg, I was lucky enough to visit the Goldenes Posthorn restaurant, and I had only the most positive impressions! The cozy atmosphere, thought out to the smallest detail, immerses you in the traditions of Bavarian cuisine and hospitality. Top notch service: The staff were very attentive, friendly and professional. The food deserves special delight! I especially liked the meat in a delicate sauce, served with potato dumplings and cranberry sauce. This is a real gastronomic masterpiece! If you are looking for a place to try authentic local cuisine, Goldenes Posthorn is the perfect choice. History, tradition and impeccable service are combined here. I recommend it to everyone who appreciates quality and atmosphere!

The sausages were good and the potato salad is to die for! I think they gave us too many sauces for the amount of sausages that we had, so I felt bad wasting that food.

At first we were a little surprised - and a little skeptical - because the food came within 10 minutes, but this was not at the expense of the quality. It was probably so quick because we ordered from the Christmas menu and the food was already largely prepared (my guess). In any case, it was super tasty and the service was great, and the restaurant is really nice and it's fun to experience a piece of history in the oldest wine bar in Germany. We had the goose breast and it was just perfect, super tender, juicy meat. The crust was nice and crispy and very well seasoned, I don't normally like crust but this crust was top. The dumplings were great and the red cabbage was also very tasty. The only disadvantage is that the red cabbage had to be paid for as an extra side dish and was not included in the normal dish.

Unfortunately that was nothing, the “cheese spaetzle” were over baked but that was it! Unbutton the package from the metro no spices no cream no no cheese no nothing I don't expect homemade spaetzle but at least taste in the food

I had a terrible experience at this place. The waiter was extremely rude and actually kicked me and my friends out because we only ordered beers. He insisted we order food as well, even though we weren’t hungry. This kind of treatment is unacceptable and completely ruined our night. I would never recommend this place to anyone

Terrible experience. We were welcomed by an arrogant and rude old man. Table still very dirty from the customers who were there before. Poor food and high price. We were also rushed to leave the table. Absolutely not recommended for everyone.

There is staff who can speak English. There is ample space in the basement and the price is reasonable. I ate Haksen, venison, and goose breast, and the taste of the food was just so-so. It's a great place to do business even at the end of the year and enjoy a fun atmosphere with good people. The staff was friendly and both cash and card payments were accepted.

We made a reservation for the extended family for Christmas and were given a very friendly welcome. We had a nice space and were served in a friendly and professional manner by the staff. The food was very tasty and the dessert was the crowning glory. It was a lovely Christmas party at the Golden Posthorn and we would love to come back. It's definitely great there in summer with a view of the Sebaldus Church😊👍

Excellent place to taste the typical dishes, the knuckle is crispy and juicy, and the desserts are phenomenal, and the cherry on top is the attention of the staff who are very attentive and make the effort to understand each other with the tourists.

This is Christmas Eve, we are here now. Food is good, but we have never seen such a rude waiter, who judges people by nationality. The waiter is from Poland, who started shouting at me at the very beginning. Trying to keep our mood and spirit positive, but the atmosphere is ruined already. It’s a pity we had such experience.

We spontaneously returned at 6:30 p.m. and were welcomed in a very natural and friendly manner. Starters (Obazda and liver dumpling soup) and main courses (postilion pan and sausage dumplings) were very tasty, plentiful and hot. The entire time the service was top and unobtrusive. Unfortunately, we did not have good experiences with this restaurant. One star for the tasty food. We had the same “negative experiences” as other guests: 1. We were spontaneously offered a table for 1.5 hours. The service was extremely quick. Beer drinks were followed by food (in less than 10 minutes). No wonder the food was only lukewarm. We complained about this and it was reheated. 2. After a good hour, the bill was thrust under our noses without being asked. The “host” personally asked us emphatically to leave so that she could reassign the table. And with drinks half full! People here seem to be in a position to be able to afford such behavior. Unfortunately, this has absolutely nothing to do with hospitality. No recommendation. One-time visit. Isn't worth the money. P.S. I keep the receipt as evidence. This is the best Franconian restaurant in Nürnberg! We loved it so much that went twice! It is cozy and family run. Our waiter was super efficient and luckily for us, he spoke English.

Impudence, outrageous hates, children were not allowed to eat there with babies. We would have left the stroller in front of the door. You don't want to have it there. There is no inclusion whether wheelchairs have to stay outside???

I had an old menu with Schweinbraten listed and ordered that. Instead, I got 3 kloss torpedos with meat sprinkled inside, kraut and gravy. I was informed they did not have schweinbraten and could not even show them the menu entry when I tried. The owner came over to the menu area and told me to leave the area. They would not acknowledge the error so I ate my salad and paid 15.50 Euros for the tasteless meal.

We tried to reserve for 2 but were told to just walk. They were able to seat us between reservations but the meal felt rushed as a result. The food was tasty and portions generous.

Today we wanted to have a little something for two without a reservation. An older gentleman said that we had until 7 p.m., which suited us just fine. It would have been 1.5 hours. After 1 hour the waitress came and said that we had to leave now. We hadn't finished drinking yet. After paying, we wanted to politely ask the older gentleman about it. He reacted completely rudely, said he only said 1 hour and practically threw us out. Luckily I've never experienced anything so outrageous anywhere. To eat...6 mikrike luke-cold sausages with a bit of bread at a very overpriced price. Pure rip-off. It's a shame, especially since it casts a bad image on the beautiful town of Nuremberg and its gastronomy. Absolutely no recommendation. And it's a shame that you have to say that as a Nuremberg resident. Never again.

Impudence! We came without a reservation and were shown a table for two with the boss telling us we had the table for 1.5 hours. Was ok For us, the drinks and the food came very quickly, unfortunately the food was only lukewarm and the 6 Nuremberg bratwursts were very small. To charge 12.50 euros for a portion of this size with 2 mini slices of bread is quite cheeky. The great thing, however, was that we were asked to leave after just an hour, instead of after 1.5 hours as promised... we hadn't even finished drinking! As we were leaving we complained to the boss, whereupon he accused us of lying and waved his hand to indicate that we should leave. I've never experienced anything like it, an absolute disappointment!

Food, drinks and personal wer good. We had to hurry and clear the table for next guest, even though we reserved the table for the whole time.

Although all the locations in Nuremberg's old town felt fully booked, we were able to reserve a table for 8 people on Saturday at very short notice. Both the food and drinks and especially the ambience were excellent. The whole thing was rounded off by the very nice and attentive staff. All in all, it was the nice end to our visit to the Christmas market that we had hoped for.

Food was okay, nothing special, just bratwurst in the restaurant, we had reserved for three hours. After the meal, the drinks were taken away from us and the boss told us that they weren't bratwurst and that we should please excuse ourselves, we should say thank you in German for the hospitableness Treatment

Uncomfortable beer hall with a warm host family and committed staff and of course the Schäuferle was outstanding. After the strenuous construction of the trade fair, the delicious cellar beer was the absolute highlight.
