Great atmosphere, very good food, plenty of seating and no reservation needed (and not possible), limited menu and not cheap, but still worth it

A bad restaurant that sorts people based on whether they eat or not, completely forgetting what hospitality means.

Beautifully restored venue in a listed hall. We had very friendly service; the grilled dishes and apple tart were excellent.

We only stopped here for a drink. The service and friendliness of the waiter immediately won us over, so we even had a quick bite to eat. On our next visit to Hamburg, we'll also try the restaurant's quality. So, we've now had the chance to eat here, and our impressions have been confirmed. The service was top-notch and incredibly friendly, and the food was also good. We'll definitely be back soon.

Great atmosphere and very tasty food.

We had the fish platter, which was phenomenal. The sauces all complemented the different types of fish, and the service was very friendly.

They are absolutely best in: - providing an awful customer service - showing an exceptional level of rudeness - ruining your mood in the light of seconds Sometimes I wonder how rude can the staff be ?! We were waiting for our order, and the waiter instead of asking what we wanted to order told us that our table could not be served, so we changed the table. The other man is coming and telling us that we were not allowed to eat our food, while we were waiting for our order, which they didn’t even take ?! And he was so rude, impolite, and arrogant. Why we weren't served, why nobody came and asked us what we would like to order, why they forced to change the table? From the beginning of our visit, we were not served properly as a customer ! Shame on them !

We had veal schnitzel, pollock Vienna-style, and children's dishes. We enjoyed everything, received very friendly service, and found the value for money very good.

The food and coffee served there are of good quality. However, it's a real shame that the waitress treats you condescendingly and makes you feel like you're in the wrong place just because you didn't wear a blouse and shirt today.

A glance at the menu: hefty prices—you just have to pay for the location. Mistake—the prices would be justified in Spökenkiekersiel or Kleinkleckersdorf as well. The food was first-class, the dessert as well, and the staff attentive and friendly. If you're willing to dig deeper into your pockets for good quality, this is the place for you.

Great outdoor seating, a bit noisy inside. Good service, nice menu. Party of four, one of us had a caprese salad, but the buffalo was very dry. We received a new one, but that wasn't so bad either. The tomato soup was delicious, and the cod and calamari were good. I had a fish platter with a variety of fish, each served with a delicious sauce. Very tasty! The prices are good.

Don't you want service with an expensive menu and poor kitchen quality? Kitchen staff wear rubber gloves to the bathroom without changing them and then go back to the kitchen! Ugh, you'll never see us there again!

Very nice and well decorated restaurant. It has french spirit with nice long bar, green color. Food was good, they have good salmon and nice burger, All their desserts are good, The service is excellent. I just love it

Having dined at this restaurant, I can only recommend it. The setting is pleasing to the eye thanks to the life-size engravings of beautiful women from the Belle Époque. The comfort is also noteworthy. The staff is welcoming. Dogs are allowed—a wonderful idea, worth noting because it's very rare. The food is excellent, and especially the fries, as good as in Paris. So, a big thumbs up.

I've been here several times with friends, and it all depends on the waiters. Sometimes you're lucky, sometimes not so much. It's a shame, really. The food, both main courses and desserts, has always been good for me. The price is a bit high, but given the location right next to the town hall, that's no surprise.

Simply WONDERFUL. Everything was perfect that evening. The food, the ambiance, and the service was more than just friendly. Here, they understand what it takes to make an evening perfect. You, the Hamburg guests (at least in the evening), also dress appropriately – smart and chic. Very easy to reach by public transport. The prices are more than justified for the location and the quality.

High praise on all counts. Tasteful, unpretentious ambiance and consistently good food. The service is attentive. The menu is small but well-chosen. At this price point, I don't know what more you could ask for.

The food was very tasty, but unfortunately, the waitress forgot to inform us that they were out of sauce for the meat. As a result, the meat was served without any comment. The atmosphere is a bit like a train station concourse.

If you’re willing to spend more on delicious food, this is the place to go. The selection is not large, but enough so that everyone can choose. Service was quick and pleasant. Outside seating is an option and it was a pleasant experience, as the street isn’t that busy with car traffic. As I mentioned, this place is not cheap but the food is great. Toilets are not wheelchair accessible. Reservation is recommended.

Great restaurant. The menu is small, which I think is a good thing. The food is very good quality. I can recommend it.

There are good days and bad days at the Goldbach: fantastic salmon or tuna, attentive service, good side dishes... and then there are the other days. On those days, the fish isn't tasty, it's dry, or simply "tiny." The range of experiences is quite wide, hence only 3 stars. It would generally be closer to 4 stars if the quality were more consistent.

It's simply fantastic here! Top-notch service, top-notch food. Exceptional ambiance. Prices are a bit higher than usual, in keeping with the location. The kitchen is open, so you can theoretically watch the chefs at work. Even as a solo diner, it's a great place to go and you'll always be treated with friendly service. The outdoor seating area offers a direct view of the Rathausmarkt square. Highly recommended

Habiendo conocido a amigos de la familia en Hamburgo exploramos la ciudad. Tristes razones me trajeron allí desde el Reino Unido, pero tuvimos una comida aquí al final de nuestro día. Usted es atraído instantáneamente por el interior del velo alto y la decoración de alta gama y muebles. Me trajeron un menú en inglés (le dio a Google traducir un descanso) y la elección fue excelente. Elegí el SPAGHETTI AGLIO E OLIO con langostinos. Cuando llegó estaba muy bien presentado e igualmente delicioso con mi servicio de parmesano. Todos disfrutamos de nuestras comidas y yo disfruté de una cerveza con los míos. Una forma encantadora de recordar a una amiga con su familia rodeada de verde que era su color favorito.

A bit surprised by the mediocre quality of the food. Drinks are way overpriced, and you pay way too much for fries with shriveled sausage.

I didn't like it that much. The staff wasn't that friendly. It's just a hall. I didn't find it very cozy. The food and drinks were good, though.

Such a beautiful location that really deserves better service. We had to ask to order something, the waiter was visibly annoyed and preferred to chat with people at the counter. Ice was crushed loudly and continuously in the immediate vicinity; this is done in preparation for the evening and not when several groups want to chat there in a cultivated atmosphere (including for business purposes).

Great location right near the Hamburg town hall, very fast service, you are seated, very spacious with large pictures on the wall, the coffee specialties are highly recommended with little selection of cakes 🎂 however

GOLDBACH is a restaurant with a cool, old-fashioned feel, like stepping into 1920s Berlin. It's right in the middle of things, near Hamburg's market and city hall, so it's perfect if you're visiting the Christmas market. The interior offers a charming escape into a bygone era, with an ambiance that distinctly evokes the atmosphere of 1920s Berlin (as claimed by the only Berliner on our table, much to the amusement of fellow Hamburg residents!) and the service is good. It's also not too noisy, which is great. They have a few good beers to choose from. The food is expensive, but that's probably because it's in such a central spot. It was good, but not amazing. Basically, GOLDBACH is a nice place to eat. It's a good choice if you're already in the area, but it's not something I'd go out of my way for.

Since it opened and because I know it's owned by Daniel Wischer, I've wanted to eat at this restaurant. I was there today, unfortunately I was very disappointed. The really nice restaurant was only moderately busy; there was a free table right by the window, but not yet newly set. When I asked if we could have it, the waitress replied that we should take the table against the wall, obviously because it was set. The service was friendly, although not very professional (e.g. my empty plate was already cleared away while the others were still eating). I had ordered roast beef with fried potatoes, the meat was okay, but the fried potatoes were a disaster: cut way too thick, tossed in way too much fat without being really crispy, no spices and with bacon and onions in homeopathic doses. It's a shame once and not again.

We were Monday evening here and waited app. 1 hour for our main course. After asking the waitress, it came out that they had forgotten our order... this was the first time in our lives. Unfortunately, we couldn't wait longer.

wir waren nachmittags am rathaus unterwegs und wollten uns mit kaffee und kuchen irgendwo aufwärmen, da gingen wir dort hinein, es gibt keine kuchenauswahl sondern einfach ein paar dessert auf der speisekarten, die bedienung brauchte immer etwas lange obwohl das restaurant relativ leer war, aber unsere desserts und der frische ingwertee waren sehr gut

Food good, but too expensive in our opinion.

We were really looking forward to this visit, but apparently we arrived a little too early. Our food, there were 17 of us, gave some people the impression that it had only been warmed up from the day before. There were no fish knives and no steak knives (only upon request). In order to serve this group quickly, the chef had probably forgotten to provide the necessary seasoning. Too bad!!! We will give this place a chance at a later time.

A great restaurant in a great location ideal for visiting the city. No frills but very good food for reasonable prices. We had panfish and wild boar currywurst. Both extremely good. The sauces are delicate and finally fresh fries. Everything came to the table hot. The lemon sorbet was also great. Fast and trained service. We were completely satisfied. Our restaurant in downtown Hamburg!

Been to Goldbach Restaurant twice now in three days and it is outstanding in my opinion. My wife as well as myself think it was some of the best food and service we have experienced in Germany. I had a steak the first night and it was fantastic you really couldn’t fault it and on the second visit we both tried something different and again it was delicious. This is a must try restaurant when in Hamburg!

Værste service længe, en chef der ikke tør snakke med kunder og et team der løber rundt som hovedløse høns. Ingen kan engelsk eller det mindste kommunikation. Fin mad men de må virkelig gå i små sko. Tjenerne er så ligeglad med en, at man skulle tro de stod der gratis. Fin mad ellers, men ledelsen må virkelig havde manglet en chef tjener… Hellere McDonald’s end dette.

Sit down at Goldbach for a cup of tea and water at 2:15 PM. When we arrived we were told it was busy, but we were able to sit down. We didn't find it that busy, but a la. It did indeed take a while for the order to arrive. After half an hour I asked for the bill, but then it took really long. One waitress referred to another, but everyone was busier clearing the table and straightening chairs than bringing the bill to the guests. After asking three times, it finally worked. The priorities here are not entirely clear.

The restaurant was far from full, but they obviously didn't feel like welcoming any more guests. A waitress met us at the entrance and said snidely, unfortunately we can't offer you a table, it's too full. Excitingly, there were still a few free tables. Well, if you don't want to, you already have it.

Completely excessive, increased price level for only a very good location to the town hall and Hamburg city center. A bit of a French bistro touch, fish platter well and steak that won't knock you off your chair. The knowledge of wine needs improvement and the tables are rather small.

Friendly, quick. OK. But: The panfish lost its temperature on the way to the table and its mustard sauce was at best next to a pot of mustard. The tagliatelle with truffle was found to be good in terms of taste and everything else. The acoustics in the old walls must be taken into account when making chimes!
