Very good Thuringian home cooking

Wir waren das letzte Mal vor ein paar Jahren dort. Ich kann keine Zwiebeln essen, sehen, riechen…trotzdem kam der Salat mit Zwiebeln und Bedienung meinte “ich könnte diese doch raus picken” anschließend hatte ich keine Lust noch mal dorthin zu gehen. Heute hat mein Mann (Britisch) bestanden, wir versuchen es noch Mal dort. Gingen in die Gaststube noch nicht mal eine Begrüßung!! Auf mein “können wir uns irgendwo hinsetzen”. Alle Tische waren belegt. Unfreundlicher Haufen!!!! Richtung Bayern, Kronach.. eine andere freundlichere Welt!!!

Food very tasty and friendly staff

Very homely and idyllic guesthouse on the outskirts of Bad Lobenstein. The former princely summer house impresses with its historical charm combined with modern installations. We had a friendly room with a private bathroom for a very fair price. The breakfast was very rich, which is not a given for a small guesthouse. Everything is presented fresh and with attention to detail. The innkeeper always provides personal service and sometimes has a quick saying on his lips - we found it pleasant, some people won't like it. By the way, the guesthouse is also within walking distance, a comfortable half hour or a quick 20 minutes to the train station.

A very pleasant and familiar atmosphere as well as an excellent breakfast make your stay a unique experience. Gladly again!

We were at the “Alten Forsthaus” for a family celebration. Since the guests came from near and far, we were also able to use the rooms to stay overnight. The inn is located a long way outside of Bad Lobenstein and for those looking for peace and idyll, this place is just right. The rooms are very attractively designed and correspond to the idea of ​​a "forest house", you feel comfortable from the first moment. A small beer garden in the countryside offers the opportunity to sit outside when the weather is nice. We received a very warm welcome and were accompanied throughout the day in an extremely friendly manner by the entire staff. Nimble, competent and an eye for the bigger picture - unfortunately that's something you rarely find these days. Everything was perfect here in the “Old Forester’s House”. The first impression was confirmed by all the food and drinks on offer. Everything is high quality and freshly prepared. A fine selection of drinks, something to suit everyone. Cakes, tarts, dinner - everything was appealing, delicious and simply recommended. We were thrilled. The rooms are clean and functional (accessible via steep stairs) and equipped with a small coffee and tea station. We slept wonderfully and enjoyed the idyllic tranquility. The breakfast was also lovingly prepared and met all expectations! The entire offering is rounded off by a mini golf course and a small enclosure with wild animals. We can recommend the inn “Zum alten Forsthaus” in every respect. Thank you and all the best to the entire team!

Stopped in for dinner spontaneously in the evening. The journey along the forest path was very strange and didn't bode well for us. Once there, the tide turned positive. Very idyllic location in the forest, great ambience. Nice service. Tasty and hearty food.

The access road is poorly signposted, the navigation system directs you along a closed forest path. Unfortunately, when I was at the inn I couldn't get a seat because there was a closed group in the restaurant. The location is nice in the forest, I can't say anything about the food or service.

Hello, we called at 6:00 p.m. today and wanted to reserve a table when we were told that the restaurant would close at 7:30 p.m. and we had to eat quickly. When we got there we were served straight away. Drinks and food didn't meet the standard. Drinks don't taste like the original but mixed. Food was too greasy. Service wasn't up to par either. With 4 adults and a six year old child you paid too much for what you got.

We dared to eat here with two children (hadn't read the reviews beforehand). The sign at the entrance made us suspicious. Quote: Having beautiful children is not an achievement! Having well-behaved, respectful children does! There is no dish for children on the menu. When asked, not even pasta with sauce was possible. After reading the reviews here, one thing became clear to us - children are undesirable. It wasn't a pleasant feeling to eat there. We are not parents who park their children away from their smartphones so that they can be quiet. We like to have a game with us in restaurants while we wait, where we can laugh at times. From the looks of the other guests, that probably wasn't a good idea. We will no longer eat here and will not recommend this restaurant to other people. The food was average.

Ambiente sehr schön. Für Fleichesser sicher das richtige. Vegetarier haben kaum Auswahl. Bedienung gefragt, was es vegetarisch gibt. Antwort : Kartoffeln mit Quark. Ich wollte Abendessen haben. Also hab ich Salat bestellt, und zum satt werden Pommes. Der Salat war ok, aber für den Preis recht wenig. Die Pommes waren eine Kleinkinderportion, dafür solze 3.50 Euro. Mayonnaise gab's auch dazu, abgelaufen vor 7 Monaten. Schade.

Apparently we got off quite well... At least our children weren't bullied or yelled at by the boss. As we were leaving, he just pointed out to us that we didn't need to come back again because our playing children would have been extremely disruptive 😂 Unfortunately, a large, yellow, very conspicuously placed warning sign "NO CHILDREN'S PLAYGROUND" says it all. Other restaurants don't like it when guests only spend time on their smartphones. This is apparently desired here so that the children don't play (!!!) but are kept quiet. Absolutely impossible and that's why we're happy to comply with the boss's request.

An für sich eine sehr schöne Location mit Tieren und schönem Außenbereich. Leider scheinen Kinder nicht erwünscht! Wir wurden lautstark vor allen anderen Gästen darauf hingewiesen, dass es kein „Spielplatz“ sei! Als wir meinten, wir würden gleich gehen, begegnete man uns mit den Worten „Gott sei Dank“ in einem massiv boßhaften Unterton! So etwas habe ich noch nicht erlebt!! Gastfreundlichkeit ist das definitiv nicht! Wir sind immer noch schockiert! Schade…

Came on May 10, 2025 at 3 p.m. (opening times from 3 p.m.!) with a group of 20 people. Basically, every host should be enthusiastic... when you asked what to eat, you would be told in advance that you would have to announce it in advance, as the cook would not arrive for another 30-45 minutes. Sales and customer-oriented behavior looks different). The service was friendly, but the host was a jerk!!! Of course, no cook came until 4:30 p.m. You couldn't offer fries either...they were apparently too heavy for the boss.

I was there on my motorbike for one night. For dinner I had schnitzel with fried potatoes and a salad and it tasted very good :) The dark beer on tap 👍👍👍 My motorcycle was in the barn and the room was great too 👍 I'll definitely be back.

Hello, I'm talking about experience! Live nearby!!! I wouldn't recommend you go there. Small children are not welcome and will immediately be yelled at. Don't get too close to the ostriches or you'll get in trouble from the boss. Big mouth, children have to be very quiet and I have already experienced 3 children being chased on their bikes by the boss. The 2 large dogs bite cats and dogs (including people and small children) so the emergency doctor had to come. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who is afraid of dogs and ideally not with children either.

We stayed here for three nights and went on a hiking holiday. The house and rooms were very clean and nice. The food was very tasty and so was the breakfast. The employees and the boss were all very hospitable and caring. We'd love to come back.

It may be that there is good food and nice staff there... I couldn't find any of them. Even if it was a slip-up, that simply shouldn't happen... especially not as a so-called boss.... After a long hike we were hungry and looked for a restaurant where we could eat. We then found the forester’s lodge using Google Maps. It was December and already dark, but what we saw outside looked cozy. With lights and large candle arches. There was something large lying in the middle of the yard that looked like a dog but wasn't moving. But it couldn't be seen clearly in the dark. Since my sister is afraid of dogs, I got out of the car and checked to see if the restaurant was open. The big one in the middle of the yard was actually a dog, but he obviously didn't care about us because he completely ignored us. So I went in and asked if we could get something to eat. Since it was just before 5 p.m., the nice lady said that it wouldn't be a problem, even if a party or something like that was booked from 6 p.m. I said that my sister is waiting in the car because the big dog is in the yard and she is scared. The waitress said he was on a leash and if we didn't have a dog with him, he ignored us. We didn't have a dog with us and the big dog in the yard lay there like a rock, so my sister was able to get out too. The service was very friendly and quick and the food was good and filling. The prices are perfectly fine. Since it was already dark, we didn't see much of the surroundings. But we will definitely come back again in the summer.

Gutes Essen, Reservierung empfehlenswert

Gemütliche Location auch für Feierlichkeiten sehr gut geeignet da zwei Räumlichkeiten vorhanden sind und im Sommer bzw.warmen Temperaturen ein sehr einladender Biergarten im natürlichen Ambiente

Leuke bediening en erg vriendelijk. Heerlijk bier, en een heerlijke snitsel gegeten. Niet geslapen dus geen kamers gezien. Het eet gedeelte is zeer netjes en gezellig

Wir benötigen eine spontane Unterkunft und haben sie hier zum Glück gefunden. Das Personal und die Chefin waren alle super nett. Obwohl 3 Klassentreffen am Abend stattgefunden haben, wurden wir nie vergessen und immer freundlich bedient. Sehr schöne gepflegte Anlage. Die Tiere sind toll, die Umgebung ruhig und perfekt für den Start von Wanderungen. Das Frühstücksbüffet war mit viel Liebe zubereitet. Wir haben uns hier sehr wohlgefühlt. Vielen Dank für die nette Zeit bei euch!

Also was Paul das Biest da von sich gibt mag aus seiner Sicht vielleicht richtig sein aber es gibt da einen großen Platz nur für Kinder und nicht den sehr liebevoll angelegten Garten.Wie waren vor Ort und haben die geschiderte Situation miterlebt und stehen da voll auf der Seite der Vermieter.Solche Gäste braucht man nicht.Das Personal dort ist sehr nett und die Pension ist einfach toll.Der große Hund gehört zum Haus und ignoriert jeden.Außer man beschäftigt sich mit Ihm dann verlangt er nach mehr Streicheleinheiten.Und für nicht antiauthoritä r erzogene Kinder gibt es dort viel zu entdecken.Sogar Erdmännchen und ein Känguru kann man dort bestaunen.Kann die Pension nur empfehlen

Wir sind etwas zu früh gekommen, die Reaktion darauf war nicht so einladend. Dafür war dann später die Bedienung sehr nett und zuvorkommen und Essen wie Getränke durch die Bank ausgezeichnet. Man kann toll draußen sitzen und die Sonne genießen.

Für Fremde etwas umständlich zu finden. Sonst alles top.

Auch angenehm zum draußen sitzen. Es wurden zwar die Servietten vergessen aber die Soljanka war lecker. Tiere zum anschaue: ein junges Känguru, eine Straußenfamilie, Alpakas, Hühner, Erdmännchen und ein Stachelschwein...und Pferde.

Sehr leckeres Essen und ein richtiger Glückstreffer. Waren auf der Rückfahrt von unserer Nordkap-Reise und haben nach was gemütlichen gesucht und gefunden.🤩👍😉🐾🐾 kleiner Geheimtipp 👍 das gefüllte Forsthaus Schnitzel war sehr lecker und hat Kindheitserinnerungen in mir aufleben lassen. Vielen lieben Dank das wir auf Ihrem Parkplatz mit dem Wohnmobil übernachten durften 👍

Essen ist hier super. Wir haben den Biergarten am Sonntag besucht, der gut gefüllt war. Sehr nette Bedienung, die den Überblick behält. Wir haben hier 2 Nächte übernachtet.

Wir haben sehr gut echte Bad Lobensteiner Spezialitäten gegessen, das Personal war sehr nett und hat sich um einen gekümmert.

Super Ambiente, super originelles sehr gut schmeckendes Essen. Freundliche Bedienung. Weiter zu empfehlen 👍🎄
