Gasthof Neuhaus in Berchtesgaden

The roast pork with beer sauce was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend it! Overall, I have no complaints about this inn. Bavarians are just so different from the people I know in North Rhine-Westphalia (in a good way, though). The service was friendly and the staff had a great sense of humor. As a fan of half-timbered buildings, I have absolutely no complaints about the building itself. We ate inside, but the beer garden looked very inviting as well. So, if you'd like to try some good Bavarian cuisine, I can wholeheartedly recommend this inn :)

It was a Tuesday night and everything closed early but this was open. Service was accommodating and pleasant. We ordered the beef Knödel and also a Gulasch. We were famished and whoever cooked that night were very generous with the salt. It was overtly salty just very very salty.

One of the staff had spent years in Italy and so gave us excellent advice! Sure, everything was probably good, but if I came back, I'd order the same thing. The service is fast and friendly, and the food is excellent. Highly recommended; the town of Berchtesgaden is very pretty and worth a quick visit, and the salt mine is nearby.

The service was friendly and quick. I found the pumpkin cream soup fantastic, very delicious and highly recommended. The roast beef with onions was also cooked to perfection (medium). I can warmly recommend Gasthof Neuhaus.

We were only there for drinks. The Berchtesgadener Hofbräu beer was very tasty.

We can only give the food here two stars. The reason for this is simply that the taste of our food unfortunately didn't match that of fine dining. We ordered a roast pork and half a knuckle of pork. These were brought to our table after what felt like only four to five minutes. While this fact isn't a negative, we believe it has other reasons. Firstly, the plates on which our dishes were served were "cold." This meant that even the slice of roast pork was less than lukewarm within a very short time. Furthermore, we're used to a hearty sauce with these two dishes. Ours, on the other hand, were (let's put it this way) stretched out and runny. Therefore, they didn't really have much flavor. Regarding the bread dumplings, they were so round, it seemed as if they had been previously wrapped in foil and had just been warmed up. Since we like to cook fresh food ourselves, we were very disappointed. Overall, we had the feeling that the aim was to serve guests quickly. When the waiter asked, we gave our assessment of the food objectively and firmly. Well, this was acknowledged, and after we paid, we were "not" shown off. We think there are several factors here, which could, of course, also depend on the day. Nevertheless, we will not choose this restaurant again when visiting restaurants in the Berchtesgaden area. It's a shame, really, considering its central location.

Cozy atmosphere, very polite waitress, short wait time – and of course: the food is delicious! The duck was excellent, the orange sauce was perfect – everything is balanced and delicious, in the best Bavarian tradition. This isn't our first time here and we will definitely be back – keep it up! 👏

A typical Bavarian inn. Even though I was alone, I got a "normal"-sized table (which is by no means a given). The service was very courteous and friendly, and the Berchtesgadener Kasspatz'n were delicious. I'll be happy to come back next time I'm in Berchtesgaden.

Really enjoyed our dinner here. Ne and my wife split the 1/2 pork knuckle and the Bavarian duo (2 pretzels with flavored creek cheeses and butter) and it was SO much food, but both very delicious. The inside is a typical Bavarian interior, which we loved, but opted to sit on the patio despite it being a little chilly. They have furs to sit on and blankets to use if you get too cold. Great view of the mountains from the patio and the service was very attentive and helpful.

Two people ordered 1/2 pork knuckle with salad and what was supposed to be apple pie. The pork knuckle was very crispy and the side dish was quite sour, which was a bit uncomfortable. The apple pie was quite good. The service staff was friendly and would remind guests not to order too much. The dim atmosphere in the room with the candles was quite nice.

I recommend it, the food and drinks were excellent. Big compliments to the waiters for their speed. The pub was full and everything was fast.

We stopped by here without planning to have a full meal — just wanted a small snack and some drinks — but the place was so inviting we couldn’t resist ordering some German food. And we’re glad we did! The food was absolutely delicious, and the waiters were incredibly friendly and attentive. The location is perfect — right in the old city with a beautiful mountain view that makes the atmosphere even better. A rustic brewery in the heart of Berchtesgaden. Typical Bavarian delicacies. Don't go too late for what's supposedly the best pork knuckle in the region; it sells out quickly. Otherwise, the other dishes are also very tasty. Very friendly and attentive service, too.

We were not disappointed and the service was impeccable despite many special requests. Here you feel comfortable, rustic and delicious.

And I was on time and was rewarded. Extremely crispy and superbly seasoned rind, buttery soft meat. Great sauerkraut and homemade dumplings. A true delight. Authentic Bavarian restaurant with generous portions and delicious food! The pork knuckle was crispy outside and tender inside — perfect with an HB beer. Friendly service and cozy atmosphere. Outdoor seating is nice, though there might be a few flies when it’s warm, so indoor seats can be a better choice.

Wanted a seat outside. A lady with a dog consumed a table for 6 and refused to give is half the table. Okay. Inside...4 tables for 6 people each. Can't sit there, only 2 of you. Sit on bar stools near the bar. Half hour later, 2 people sit at a table for 6... Half hour into our meal, party of 18 shows up. Our service ended. We wanted a second glass of wine but the waitress was too busy. So we got 1 glass of wine each. If you are a party of 2, go somewhere else.

I only can say that restaurant is excellent, with hardworking and kind staff. Atmosphere was great, live tradition music that fulfilled time spent there. And finally, their food is so delicious, huge and in my opinion everyone who comes there and eat, it will go out with full stomach and will be happy. I will come back again ☺️

Had the best time eating here, our server Kyrylo was the nicest, he made great food suggestions and never rushed us. The Bavarian cream was divine!

Excellent restaurant, full of traditional options and even more vegetables than most German menus. Pork roast and burger recommended from what we tried, but the home made bacon and caraway sauerkraut is excellent. Was also very excited to see palatchinke on the seasonal dessert menu, an uncommon and excellent dish with very high quality ice cream. Like most restaurants in the Berchtesgaden area, also beautiful scenery to sit outside, though also looked nice and cozy inside.

Food was good. We ate outside and we loved the atmosphere. We would come back when in the area.

A reservation is highly recommended; otherwise, you may have to plan on a longer wait. Our snack board was very generous with bread and pretzels. The service staff was friendly, attentive, and prompt.

Nice ambience! The indoor area is very crowded, but outdoor seating is available. We didn’t have a reservation and still managed to get a table. The food portions are huge 😅. I had read reviews saying the portions are big, but they are even bigger than other Bavarian restaurants in Germany. The dessert cake portions are also very generous and the daily cake (plum cake?) taste very good with cream. Prices are reasonable and the food tastes good. The crispy duck with orange and red cabbage is really tasty. The roasted pork was a little dry, but it comes with sauce so it was okay. We weren’t sure how to enjoy the side potatoes—maybe mixed with something? Septi is very friendly and helpful. She checked on us during the meal, and her smile made us feel very welcome. We wanted to pay with Amex, and she even changed the payment machine so we could—so sweet of her. “Terima Kasih, Septi!”

The restaurant was in middle of berchtesgaden. It was a very great place to visit and had all its facilities well maintained. Great food, we had a burrata salad, chicken schnitzel and bavarian burger.

We visited Gasthof NEUHAUS twice, and the food was simply fantastic both times! We tried dishes like Berchtesgadener Kasnocken and the Bavarian Burger. Both were fantastic! Service was good, but they were busy at times, so we sometimes had to wait a bit.

This is our second time here. The food is excellent and the service is very friendly. A definite recommendation.

We ordered two portions of half a pork knuckle with dumplings and sauerkraut, and they arrived in two large portions. The food was delicious, and the service was very attentive, friendly, and multilingual. The restaurant has a typical Bavarian atmosphere, is very clean, and offers excellent value for money. The restaurant is located close to the town center but unfortunately doesn't have its own parking. The inexpensive parking option is available in the large public underground garage about 100 meters away.

Berchtesgaden is one of the most stunning places you could visit. We arrived on Saturday 14th June 2025 from Munich. I had couple of beers in Gastof Neuhaus in 2024 but no food. On my return, in a party of three, we had an early lunch. Cold cut platter with farmers bread, Schnitzel with fries & sald and Kasespetsel. Our meal was washed down with a Helles & Weißbier. The consensus was that the food was not only excellent but there was plenty of it. The restaurant is aesthetically pleasing inside and out. Toilets are spotless too. I would absolutely recommend a visit to Gastof Neuhaus if you happen to be in Berchtesgaden.

Visited in August. Beautiful mountain views on the upper, sunny terrace. Centrally located in the charming village of Berchtesgaden. Ordered a Bavarian burger, water, and beer (0.5l). The burger was better quality than what you can usually get in restaurants. The service was quick and very friendly. The price-quality ratio was excellent.

The food here is truly excellent, upscale. The service is as it should be: discreet yet attentive. The dining room deserves special mention: very elegant and tastefully decorated. The portions are very large, so you should only order the soup starter if you're really hungry.

First, praise: the sausage salad and the Nuremberg roast pork were very tasty. At the next table, there was a cheese platter for two people, which is a shame we didn't get it. It looked absolutely delicious. The ambiance was also very nice; we sat outside. Now, criticism. I had the goulash soup, which tasted good, but it had little to do with goulash. The garnish consisted of potatoes, and the bit of goulash that was the size of my little fingernail, and you could count it. A real shame. The temperature was lukewarm.

The food is truly delicious (Leberkäse and knuckle of pork) and the ambiance is just what you'd expect on a Bavarian vacation. Be prepared to wait a bit in the evenings. The waiters, however, make every effort to find you a seat promptly. Very friendly.

The best restaurant—in our opinion—in Berchtesgaden. If you haven't eaten a knuckle of pork there, you're missing out. Wonderful crust and juicy meat, large bread dumplings, and fresh salad. The roast pork is also great; you'd have to eat the entire menu! The staff is fast and friendly. You should also try the anniversary beer; it's delicious. We've been there in previous years and again this year. Give it a try! Update July 2025: Looks like the kitchen has a new chef: the knuckle of pork now has a rock-hard crust. No longer recommended.

The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The atmosphere was amazing, there was local music playing during lunch, we really enjoyed it. I take the overall rating down for the service. Before we could even choose what to eat, she asked us about food and drinks, and she was insistent. On the contrary, when we wanted to pay, the waiter pretended not to see us and after we asked him for the bill, he walked past us four times and ignored us for 15 minutes. In the end, we paid, but unfortunately it ruined the whole experience of the restaurant

The cuisine deserves special mention: delicious, traditional dishes, freshly prepared and served with love. We were unsure if this would live up to our expectations, as it’s in the central part of Berchtesgaden and is consistently crowded. But we were blown away! We came in right before the kitchen closed, and yet the staff was quick, kind, and attentive, and the food was the best Bavarian cuisine we’ve had this entire week! We got the pork schnitzel and the zwiebelrostbraten and both were outstanding —we ate every single bite. The biergarden is also charming and had a wonderful energy to it. Highly recommend!!
