Gasthof Mais (zum Jägerheim) in Röthenbach a.d.Pegnitz

We'd only ever driven past the Mais before, but this time we really wanted to try it: A lovely inn with a cozy atmosphere and delicious Franconian dishes. The meatballs with mushroom sauce and pretzel dumplings were a delight. The sauce for the Schäufele (pork shoulder) was divine! 🤩 The service was friendly and very attentive, and there was even time for a quick chat. They even proactively brought us more sauce. We'll definitely be back.

On the way home, I was looking for a restaurant near the A3 motorway and found this one. It was Friday at 1 p.m., and the place was packed, but we got a table right away. The waitress was very friendly and young, and we chatted with her for a while afterward. The food was quick, plentiful, good, and hearty – excellent! Guys, stop here! It's just a small detour on the way to Frankfurt, but well worth it. Thanks so much, we'll definitely be back…

A fantastic beer garden with evening sun and delicious food, plus great Simon beer on tap – what more could you want? 😉 The extensive game menu is fantastic! We regularly cycle from Schwaig to Renzenhof. Definitely the best restaurant in the area. Of course, the city folk know this too, so it's best to make a reservation. Even at unusual times like Saturday afternoons... ☝️

We turned off the motorway and found this great inn. Very friendly staff, incredibly delicious food – we were thrilled. Next time we're in the area, we'll definitely come back.

It's difficult to get a table here without a reservation. The service was perfectly fine. They serve Veldensteiner beers. The food was just okay. The roulade was very carrot-y inside, and the cordon bleu was rather tasteless and had very little cheese. However, the portions were more than generous.

We spontaneously drove off the A9 motorway and went to Gasthof Mais without a reservation. Wonderful, friendly, clean, affordable and very tasty...we'll gladly come again.

A cozy, charming country inn atmosphere, traditional Franconian cuisine, friendly and attentive service, separate room for celebrations and reservations, parking in front of the restaurant. Outdoor seating is available in good weather (the only drawback is that the outdoor area is located on a main road).

Because of the good reviews here, we stopped at this restaurant on both our outbound and return journeys to Switzerland. It was truly delicious, and the little detour was definitely worth it.

Super delicious and highly recommended! We were passing through and discovered the inn by chance on Google Maps. The good reviews piqued our interest, so we turned off the highway. It takes about 8-10 minutes from the highway to the inn. The inn is located in the middle of a small village. The service and ambiance are fantastic. The food is also truly excellent and delicious! We had three different dishes, all of which were delicious, and the portions were really generous. A definite recommendation for anyone who's nearby or passing through; this little detour is worth it.

A beautiful place, the staff was charming, especially Klaus, who was very attentive at all times. The food was exceptional in both quality and quantity. A place to stay, to entertain, and above all, to enjoy. We came with our dog and had no problems at all.

We were on our way back from vacation and stopped at the Gasthof Mais because of the many positive Google reviews – absolutely the right decision! Only 9 minutes from the A3 motorway, yet surrounded by nature. We had roast pork, hunter's roast, and roulade with dumplings – all delicious and homemade. The beautiful outdoor area under large, shady trees is especially inviting. The service was very friendly, card payments are accepted, and they serve hot meals all day – perfect for travelers like us. Highly recommended, we'd love to come back!

We spontaneously stopped by this inn while passing through. We received a friendly welcome, and despite the full house, we were happily seated. There were two of us, and we ordered roast pork and schnitzel from the daily menu. Words cannot describe how well both dishes were prepared. The roast was so tender it melted in your mouth. The schnitzel was prepared exactly as you would imagine and was also super tender. The portions are generous, and you'll definitely be satisfied. The entire courtyard is classically furnished without appearing dated. The only drawback is the parking situation on site, but that certainly doesn't justify a point deduction.

Excellent roast venison, exquisite dessert – rhubarb panna cotta. In addition to hearty Franconian home cooking, we always enjoy something from the exquisite daily menu.

On the way home from our long journey, we wanted to escape the traffic jam on the highway – so we pulled out and spontaneously searched for a well-reviewed inn serving hot meals all day. That's how we ended up at Gasthof Mais – and we haven't regretted it for a second! We received a warm welcome, the service was attentive and friendly, and the Franconian food was simply top-notch – homemade, delicious, and plentiful. Just what we needed after many hours in the car. A real insider tip if you're in the area or need a break from the traffic. We definitely recommend the restaurant; it's good, and it wasn't expensive at all...

Very delicious home food, big portions, highly recommended. No a/c, so it was a bit hot inside and outside. We visited on sunday, it was full of people, almost all tables are busy, parking is busy, we found only 2 tables available, so we were very happy to try local delicious food. No playground for kids.

I recommend this restaurant on your way back from southern Europe. It's definitely worth the detour from the highway and the extra 10 minutes to get there. Very good food, fresh meat. Friendly service, and really reasonable prices... ahh. And although I'm not a beer drinker, the beer was just as good as the schnitzel 😊

Accidental discovery, it was surprisingly full at lunchtime on a weekday. Very good and tasty home-style cuisine, authentic and well-kept. Easily accessible from the motorway, bright dining room and modern, clean toilets. Overall, highly recommended!

Friendly, fast and tasty 😋. This makes a visit really fun. Although the inn was packed, there was still a free spot. Professionally and attentively served and catered for. Nice selection of good home-style dishes, there is something for every taste. Decent portions, fresh and super tasty. Starting with the fine salad as a starter, through to the delicious crusty roast, which was so tender that the meat only had to be divided and not cut. The fine crust was an absolute poem and a great taste in terms of taste. The crowning glory was warm chocolate cake with banana ice cream and berries, a dream. All of this without any chichi. We should also mention the tasty non-alcoholic wheat beer and pilsner. We really enjoyed this refreshing down-to-earth attitude and will definitely come back. Thank you and see you soon.

Good food, but seat under the roof very warm. Better to wait for a seat in the beer garden. Beef roulade was good but cooked for too long, so it was a bit dry. The pork fillet was also very cooked and dry on the salad.

Delicious food in a rustic restaurant

Had dinner outside in the beer garden. Once cordon bleu, dumpling with sauce and twice schnitzel. The schnitzel and the CB were all well prepared, but the execution was very simple, I found a side salad a bit too little for three plates and there was only potato salad as a side dish, which didn't go down well with my little one. The food didn't come at the same time, I was allowed to sit there and watch the rest of my family eat until the CB came. For your information: if you want to have a new experience eating Cordon Bleu, you are welcome to stop here, because here you can get CB with Camembert. I personally enjoyed it. I like eating white mold cheese, but I was missing the ham, which is expected with a CB. Not a bad meal at all. We weren't dissatisfied, but we didn't stay dissatisfied either.

Food and drinks are way too overpriced. I've never had such a bad sauce for roast pork. It stretched like rubber gelatin stuff. The potato salad is inedible. The service lady with the blonde curls didn't smile, she could work on her friendliness... there's definitely room for improvement. Absolutely not recommended!!!
