Gasthof Herzog Maximilian in Gmund a.Tegernsee

Were there for the first time today to pick up food - soup, salad, cheese spaetzle, risotto and dessert. Every dish was delicious and the service staff were very friendly and helpful. We'd love to come back there. :)

We now visit the Gasthof Herzog Maximilian regularly, because here you not only experience an authentic Bavarian ambience, but much more. No matter when you come, you will always be warmly welcomed. The service team always gives you very good advice, can say something about all the dishes and is always friendly and accommodating. The high quality of the food speaks for itself. The dishes are always superbly prepared; the taste of the products is what counts here. If you want to eat high-quality food and experience true taste, this inn is the right place for you. The menu is varied and balanced. The food is excellent and the portions are decent. What should be particularly positively mentioned is the extremely friendly, attentive and fast service. You feel in good hands and very comfortable. The furnishings are also tasteful and rustic. We'd love to come back!

Zwei Salate eine Suppe bestellt und das Brot kostet am Ende extra wir haben uns schon sehr gewundert für drei Scheiben Brot Geld zu verlangen was normalerweise bei allen anderen Wirtschaften Standard ist wenn ich eine Suppe bestelle oder einen Salat ist normalerweise immer Brot dabei zumal es sogar nicht mal ausreichend war

Freundlichste Bedienung am ganzen Tegernsee. Abendessen war lecker und preislich akzeptabel. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

The food and ambience may be appealing, but what this restaurant defines as “service” is clearly not! Yesterday, Saturday, after a long walk, we arrived hungry and thirsty at the almost completely full restaurant and were initially ignored by the staff serving there. It wasn't until I picked up two menus myself that her colleague brought our attention to the waitress, so she asked us in a tone that was more reprimanding than friendly if she could help us. I said we wanted to eat something and would that be possible. She replied: “No, the kitchen is already closed!” That was at 8:40pm on Saturday! Not a word of explanation or apology. At the entrance it is advertised as “open continuously from Monday to Sunday”….

It was wonderful, delicious food and nice service. Coziness, friendliness and quality are very important here. I'd love to come back. Thanks

Service was good, great ambience. We expected more from the food. The taste is rather average. Schnitzel had little taste, beef loin was no loin.

Incredibly bad food. The schnitzel and fries were soaked in fat, the fish was not edible and the risotto looked like it had been eaten before. We'll never eat there again. It's a shame, because the location is quite cozy.

We discovered this inn by chance while we were passing through and spontaneously made a stop. We were very positively surprised by what the inside of the inn has to offer. A very nicely decorated, Bavarian modern ambience. Very welcoming. The service was very nice and attentive. The food was particularly tasty and the portion was large. Particularly worth mentioning is the visible, freshly tapped barrel of beer, a feast for the eyes 😃 All in all a highly recommended inn. Next time in Tegernsee you no longer need to go to the overcrowded, unfriendly Bräustüberl.

We eat at Herzog Maximilian every time we vacation in the area. Only this time we were very disappointed! Unfortunately the food was a bit overpriced for the size and taste. The biggest drawback was the “child-friendliness”. Our little daughter made some “loud” noises for a maximum of 5 minutes and we were immediately warned by the waitress. There's a family of 3 later!!!! Children came to the next table. The waitresses became increasingly unfriendly in their manner and facial expressions. We didn't even get a goodbye. I think they were happy when we left. Unfortunately this was the last time.

A great inn, we ended up here by chance on the first evening and didn't want to go anywhere else the other evenings. There were 13 people there with the family at Christmas, reserved in advance, unfortunately the tables were far apart, we moved them together ourselves, the food was okay, except for the plastic pieces in the salad, and the schnitzel was more panada than meat, some common ones Dishes were out, in my opinion it shouldn't be at 5:30 p.m. especially when you know the restaurant is fully booked, the waiter was a bit strange with certain statements, no, we won't eat there anymore, sorry

Wir waren heute am 10.11.24 ca. 14.30 am Biergarten vor der Tafel „bitte hier warten „. Gestanden. Es hat ca. 10 min. Gedauert bis wir total unhöflich angeredet wurden um uns zu sagen: das dauert mind. 15 min. Wir haben das abgenickt , war auch kein Problem . Es wurden 3 Tische frei und nicht freigegeben , da sie nicht abgeräumt wurden . Das essen war kalt und hat nicht wirklich geschmeckt . Der Preis war dafür sehr hoch . Leider hatten wir das Empfinden als Gast nicht willkommen zu sein . Schade

The food is at best standard for the price and the service is a disaster

We stopped here after a hike at Tegernsee. The restaurant is very nicely decorated, the toilets are clean and the service is top. Our waiter greeted us very friendly and was always attentive. The food was absolutely great, we wanted to lick the plates clean. The Kaiserschmarren was our highlight and also filled the three of us. We can recommend the restaurant to anyone passing through Gmund! For all drivers: the “Volksfestplatz” car park is only 2-3 minutes away and offers electric drivers two quick chargers and two AC columns.

Der schmucke Langasthof im Ortskern von Gmund ist mit hauseigenen Parkplätzen nicht gerade gesegnet. Sehr angenehm lässt es sich im Gastgarten sitzen, obwohl der Strassenlärm des Durchgangsverkehrs präsent ist. Die Speisenkarte ist für ein derartiges Haus mit bairischer Küche repräsentativ. Von Rindertatar über Kasspatzen und Holzfällersteak bis zum Wiener Schnitzel und dem unvermeidlichen Schweinsbraten findet man alles, was der Norddeutsche Urlauber in Bayern erwartet. Die Pfifferlingsuppe war pfiffig gewürzt und das fränkische Schäufele eine Riesenportion mit einer tollen dunklen Sosse. Sehr gefällig auch der zugehörige Speckkrautsalat. Während die Fleischpflanzerl etwas trocken waren, fanden wir den Kartoffelsalat sehr gelungen. Der Herr vom Service machte einen eher gequälten Eindruck, wohingegen sein weibliches Pendent eine aufgewecktere Berufsauffassung an den Tag legte. FAZIT: Gut bürgerliche bairische Küche in passendem Ambiente.

Wir haben dem Restaurant zwei mal eine Chance gegeben. Leider war beides mal die gleiche Katastrophe. Der Schweizer Wurstsalat war vermutlich ein Fertiggericht aus dem Eimer und dafür über 12,- € zu verlangen ist eine Frechheit. Beim zweiten Besuch habe ich das teuerste und schlechteste Wiener Schnitzel ever bekommen. Trotz großem Hunger konnte ich es nicht essen, weil es schlichtweg nicht genießbar war. Die Unaufmerksamkeit der Servicekräfte ist erwähnenswert - man hat den Eindruck, dass man vor leeren Gläsern verdurstet. Schade um das schöne Lokal. Da ist viel Luft nach oben.

For me one of the most beautiful restaurants in Gmund. The food is always super fresh and the service is incredibly friendly. Been going there for a while and enjoy taking family and friends when they visit. Above all, the freshly tapped wooden barrel beer is sensational.

Unfortunately we were very disappointed with our visit. The children's schnitzels were ready-made schnitzels from the freezer, the normal portion of the mock roast was small (a dumpling) and expensive and the crust of the roast pork was so hard that you could neither cut nor bite it. It was also served lukewarm and the meat was extremely fatty. A pity.

We are locals and have been here many times before with the old Pächters, but today was really a bad experience. We called before, they confirmed they had space. However the Gasthof was completely overseated, they only had four or maybe five waiters. We waited over an hour for our food. Everything took super long. In total we were here for two hours, we just wanted to have a quick bite. When we ordered they said that we can have extra wishes because the food is preprepared. We did not understand why it then needed to take an hour. Food was okay, but service was really bad and partially a bit unfriendly too.

Unfriendly welcome from the waiter, what we were there for (food). No more kitchen (9:15 p.m.)… ok. Apparently there's nothing left that has an open kitchen... Luckily, 300 meters away there was a delicious pizzeria that was incredibly friendly. Asked beforehand whether there were drinks until 11 p.m.: the answer was yes… so back after dinner. 10:23 p.m.... The counter has already been cleaned, there's nothing left... you row back for a moment, you could at least serve a bottled beer. Will be cashed in immediately… never again. It's a shame, it's a cozy restaurant in itself, but that's how you lose your desire.

Bavarian hearty, just as you would expect as a Rhinelander in Bavaria. We had the Viennese - a huge portion, I think the small version (also available) is completely sufficient.

A beautiful and well-kept inn in Bavarian style. Large guest room with separate areas using wood-clad, half-height room dividers. The evening menu starts at 5 p.m. and we had liver dumpling soup, Wiener Schnitzel and Kaiserschmarn...mmmhh...tasty. Since we were traveling by public transport, we were happy that there were bus stops right in front of the house. So we were able to continue directly to Tegernsee.

The food was very good, I found the portion too small for the price. I had fish (it was delicious) and mashed potatoes (2 tablespoons at most). My husband had liver (it was a large portion) but not enough mashed potatoes. Staff was very nice.

Unfortunately, the new tenant charges quite high prices. A turkey strip salad costs 18 euros and is very small. In addition, it is not tasty in terms of taste. Bread is not included and must be ordered separately for 1.20 euros. These are two pieces of old baguette. The same applies to the Kaiserschmarrn, for which the applesauce is charged extra. We therefore prefer the Seeglas restaurant because the portions there are significantly larger and taste more appealing. 1 star because the Kaiserschmarrn was really good, but the soups were inedible.

Very nice inn! We sat in the sun in the beer garden for the second time and were served very friendly. We ate a very good roast pork and a juicy corn-fed chicken breast on risotto with asparagus. Only recommended! What's really fun, of course, is beer fresh from the wooden barrel on Tuesdays. It was a pleasure!

The food is disappointing: trout (very dry, no taste) and char not recommended, the roast pork is ok but very expensive. Dessert tastes like "pimped up" finished product, nothing special, but at least too expensive. Addendum: We were there again now. The roast pork was only lukewarm and only consisted of a dry piece of edge. The large portion only included 1 dumpling, which we actually know with 2. It also took quite a long time. Disappointing for the high prices. Don't come back for a while.

Wir konnten den Biergarten draußen bei Sonnenschein nutzen. Wir hatten den Schweinsbraten mit Klössen und Speck-Krautsalat. Dies war schon mega lecker..... Als Nachtisch gab es Kaiserschmarrn..... Wahnsinn, sowas von lecker. Wir waren absolut begeistert!!!!!! Wir kommen wieder !!!!!

The Gasthof Herzog Maximilian is located near Lake Tegernsee. You can't complain about the ambience, it was nicely located and clean. Unfortunately the service wasn't for us. The chemistry wasn't right. When we asked if we could keep a menu at the table, we were put off with "he needs it somewhere else". Not enough menus? Overall, he was there very rarely and seemed arrogant. Seemed very stressed even though the guest area wasn't that full. The food was partly rather poor. The Kaasspatzen were very good, as was the onion roast. The degree of doneness was well achieved. Liver dumpling soup was solid. The asparagus cream soup was neither creamy nor had the taste of asparagus present. A very watery and tasteless affair. After our complaint, it was admitted that the soup was very unsuccessful, but unfortunately we were still charged for it. A lot was expected for the Tyrolean bacon plate for the price, but it was disappointing. We found 2 slices of bread with 5 slices of ham to be far too little for the price and had little to do with a "platter". The Wiener Schnitzel was dry but OK, but we had to pay the price for a large portion even though a small portion was ordered and brought to the table. After asking, we were put off with “it’s veal”. So service had neither listened nor acted. Overall, a modest end to Tegernsee. We definitely won't come again.
