Gasthaus Zum Wasserriesen in Thale

Sind spontan Zum Wasserriesen eingekehrt. Drinnen war es voll, aber draussen war noch einiges an Platz und prompt haben sich auch die Regenwolken verzogen. Hatten sehr leckeres Schnitzel, Lachs und Gnocchi. Service top, kommen gerne irgendwann mal wieder.

Es war ein sehr schöner Tag im Wasserriesen, von der freundlichen Bedienung angefangen, über die nette Atmosphäre, bis zum perfekten Essen war alles einwandfrei. Kostenlose Parkplätze befinden sich in hinter dem Haus. Danke für den schönen Tag bei Euch 💫

Wir waren heute spontan im Wasserriesen nach einen anstrengenden Wandertag. Es war ein sehr gute Entscheidung! Kleine Karte, freundlicher Service und das Essen war exzellent. Dieses Lokal werde ich mir merken, wir sind nicht das letztemal dort eingekehrt 😊

Wir waren heute spontan auf dem Rückweg vom Hexentanzplatz mit 6 Personen (4 Erwachsene und 2 Kinder, 8 und 4 Jahre) hier essen. Das Personal war durchweg super freundlich, der Service schnell und das Essen sehr sehr lecker. Zudem wurde auf alle Essenswünsche der Kinder eingegangen und niemand war genervt, dass Kinder mit am Tisch saßen, auch wenn sie nicht die ganze Zeit nur still da saßen. Wenn der Fahrtweg nicht zu weit wäre, würden wir auf jeden Fall öfter kommen.

Sehr schönes Gasthaus , Gaststätte. Essen vor Ort oder zum mitnehmen. Gutes deutsches Essen, mit tollen Portionen und Preis Leistung ist super. Schnitzel sind zu empfehlen, wie auch die Soljanka . Auch die Kinder kommen auf ihre Kosten. Man kann drinnen aber auch draußen sitzen. Parkplätze sind hinter dem Haus vorhanden. Blick auf Rosstrappe und Seilbahn zum Hexentakzplatz. Sehr nettes Team

Wirklich einladend und der Service erste Klasse.. habe das beste Schnitzel und die besten Spargel diesjährig dort essen können..das Dessert war auch Klasse.. es lohnt sich 😁

Sehr freundliches und schnelles Personal! Klassische Küche mit einer ansehnlichen Präsentation. Die Bachforelle, die Rinderroulade und das Wildgulasch sind sehr zu empfehlen und Preis / Leistung stimmen auch... die Cocktails vertragen mehr Wumms, aber gerade den "Platzhörsch Spritz" muss man probiert haben! Wenn die Kids wie immer nix anderes wollen, die Pommes und Nuggets sind sehr gut!

Das Restaurant 'Zum Wasserriesen' ist ein Restaurant mit deutscher Küche. Die Speisekarte ist überschaubar, was allerdings kein Nachteil ist, da der Koch die Gerichte, die er zubereitet, dafür sehr ordentlich macht. Wir waren jetzt zum vierten mal in Thale und zum wiederholten male im 'Wasserriesen' und bislang hat uns alles gut geschmeckt. Besonders auffallend ist hier jedoch das ausgesucht freundliche und zuvorkommende Personal, das allein schon eine besondere Erwähnung verdient!

Wir haben heute Spargel mit Schnitzel gegessen und waren rundum begeistert. Das Essen war perfekt auf den Punkt zubereitet – der Spargel frisch und aromatisch, das Schnitzel wunderbar saftig und knusprig. Man merkt sofort, dass hier mit viel Sorgfalt gekocht wird. Ein wirklich gelungenes Gericht, das wir jederzeit wieder bestellen würden! Wir kommen beim nächsten Besuch in Thale definitiv wieder. Großes Lob an Team!

Essen war gut und die Bedienung war freundlich. Man kann hier definitiv Essen gehen. Sehr Solide Wer überlegt in diesem Gasthaus hier oder dem Italiener 5 Minuten weiter zu essen, sollte definitiv hier im Gasthaus zum Wasserriesen essen gehen. Das lohnt sich mehr. Nur als kleine Tipp aus meiner Erfahrung im April 2026

Freundliches aufmerksames Personal. Schnitzel leider nicht schmackhaft, Pommes zu salzig. Leider nicht den Geschmack getroffen, bis auf den Nachtisch, der war lecker. Aber da Touristen eh meistens nur einmal herkommen, ist die Bewertung eher nebensächlich.

Ich war selten so begeistert, wie von diesem Gesamtpaket! Freundlich, aufmerksam und dabei nicht aufdringlich, beschreibt das Personal perfekt. Und das Essen war, egal, was ich probieren durfte, ein Gedicht! Ein Muss für alle, die hier auf der Ecke sind und gutes Essen genießen wollen.

Am 2. Abend während unseres Aufenthaltes in Thale waren wir dort essen. Wir waren rundum Zufrieden! Die Reservierung war unkompliziert, die Servicekraft war sehr freundlich, Extrawünsche wurden berücksichtigt, wir haben nicht unverhältnismäßig lang auf das Essen gewartet. Die Speisen waren wirklich hervorragend. Wir hatten alle 4 unterschiedliche Gerichte, teils vegetarisch, und waren komplett überzeugt. Das Ganze wurde durch ein traumhaftes Dessert abgeschlossen. Wir waren so begeistert, dass wir direkt wieder dort für unseren letzten Abend reserviert haben. Ein Besuch lohnt sich auf jeden Fall.

Das Essen war ein Gedicht und der Service war freundlich und sehr kundenorientiert. Ich kann einen Besuch nur empfehlen.

Ein sehr schönes Restaurant. Das Essen war sehr lecker und die Portionen sind zum satt werden. Preislich ist es normal. Haben auch sofort eine Platz bekommen. Die Speisekarte bietet eine Auswahl von allem für jeden was (Schwein, Rind, Huhn, Wild, Fisch, vegetarisch). Werd werden nächstes Mal wieder dort essen gehen.

Hier als Hotelgäste zu Abend gegessen. Sehr aufmerksamer und freundlicher Service. Essen lecker und mit gutem Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Der Raum ist durch seine Gestaltung etwas anfällig für laute Gäste. Aber man kann sich wohl fühlen. Parkplätze am Haus. Kartenzahlung möglich. Hausschnaps probieren.

Das Essen war hervorragend, regionale Gerichte erhältlich. Preise für eine Kurstadt angemessen. Von den Portionen mehr als ausreichend. Das Personal erstklassig und zuvorkommend. Die Toiletten sauber, nur an der Inneneinrichtung müsste noch etwas gearbeitet werden, um eine Wohlfühlatmosphäre zu schaffen.

Schnitzel mit Harzer, Schnitzel Wiener Art und Schokoküchlein-alles sehr schmackhaft, Portionsgröße normal. Sehr freundliche und zuvorkommende Bedienungen, dankeschön! Lokalbereich sehr sauber, wirkte frisch renoviert, Tische mit genügend Abstand, aber dennoch bisschen ungemütlich. Klare Empfehlung!

Ein super schönes Restaurant mit seiner ausgewogenen Karte, der Gastraum lädt zum verweilen ein. Die Forelle sowie das Steak waren ein Gaumenschmaus. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

We ate there on Sunday. Two half dumplings with the roulade – at that price? The taste was okay. The atmosphere wasn't very cozy.

We came to your buffet and were extremely satisfied. Everything tasted fantastic; I would come back just for the food. But special praise goes to the service – despite the stress and pressure, the staff remained cheerful throughout and didn't let special requests distract them. So, a big thank you to the young servers/temporary staff!

We were invited to a birthday party on December 26, 2025. The service was very friendly. The meeting time for all guests was set for 1:30 p.m. The restaurant requested punctuality. After ordering and receiving the first round of drinks, we ordered our food à la carte. About an hour and a half later, the food arrived lukewarm. The kitchen was completely overwhelmed. Since I was very hungry, I didn't send it back, which was perhaps a mistake. However, I also didn't want to wait any longer. My overall rating is poor!

We went there for Christmas dinner (if you can call it that). After 90 minutes, we finally received our cold food, which tasted like baby food. The server couldn't even carry six glasses on one tray. There was no candle on the table, and the table was wobbly. We felt somewhat neglected since the server didn't show up for 30 minutes.

The food tasted fantastic and can only be praised in the highest terms.

We went for Christmas dinner today. Everything was beautifully decorated. The food was excellent. The service was outstanding. We will definitely come back soon.

Update: Another truly wonderful Christmas dinner in 2025! I'm looking forward to my next visit!! Excellent food.

We went to the restaurant on Christmas Eve and, based on the reviews, had higher expectations. The menu was tailored for Christmas and differed from the regular menu... which wouldn't be so bad if all the dishes weren't pre-cooked and arrived in correspondingly poor condition. The salmon was missing its mustard crust, the beef cheeks were slimy, and the sauces were made from pre-made mixes. The mashed potatoes were lukewarm. The food at the next table was also sent back. In the end, for two main courses and two children's meals (fries) plus drinks, we received a bill of 90 euros and a bewildered waitress that there was no tip. Sorry... but that was really not good.

As has already been said, everything was fine so far, but, here's the thing: the roulade had a, let's just say, yuck! The sauce wasn't extracted from the roast. With the first bite, it tasted completely different, even with the sauce. The ham and pickle were good, but the meat, well... For these prices, you expect more. I can get better and cheaper food at any mountain hut in the summer! You guys are nice and great, but please change something in the kitchen.

We went to this restaurant for dinner. We had reserved a table for two. About half the tables were occupied, with one server on the front desk and one behind the bar. We were able to order quickly: my husband watched the woman behind the tap – "Schüttebier" (a type of beer served in bulk)... I had a ginger ale – flat, room temperature, and completely flat. The appetizer was served very quickly, but the two servers were constantly running around frantically and stressed – for no apparent reason. The main course was perfectly fine and tasted good, so we decided on dessert: I wanted a mixed ice cream, and my husband wanted yeast dumplings with blueberries and vanilla sauce. Again, there was frantic running around, and my ice cream was served immediately – but unfortunately, my husband's dessert wasn't. Only after I'd finished my ice cream several minutes ago did my husband's dessert arrive—a yeast dumpling, rock hard and without any vanilla sauce. All evening I felt rushed to eat, as if everyone was trying to "get it over with" as quickly as possible. A real shame. My husband sent the yeast dumpling back—no problem. We then went to the supermarket and bought some sweets and drinks for our hotel room. Our planned leisurely restaurant visit didn't happen...

We attended a wine tasting at the inn. The evening was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. The ambiance, the hosts, the food, and the wine were simply delightful. Thank you for this wonderful evening, and we look forward to seeing you again.

Good food is something else entirely. The service was friendly and quick. But the food was awful. The beef roulade was dry and tough, the filling sparse and barely noticeable. The red cabbage tasted like it came from a jar and was swimming in its own vinegar water.

Everything was great, the food was very good and especially the nice waiter who took care of us, we'd love to come back again.

We ate here on Friday evening. It was delicious; the venison goulash was highly recommended. What bothered us, however, was the pushy waiter, who was "begging at a high level" with his life story, which didn't go down well. Otherwise, a definite recommendation.

Super delicious! The venison goulash with spaetzle and red cabbage was a dream. My sweetheart had the venison curry sausage and loved it just as much. The house schnapps is highly recommended (I never normally drink that kind of thing!), and the service was very friendly. We also really enjoyed the ambiance. Our verdict: Best food in town 👍😁

Even the drink return area (restroom) was clean and tidy. And all for under €25 per person thanks to the daily special. Highly recommended. Especially considering the proximity to the cable car, which normally results in high prices.

The service was friendly and attentive, but nothing particularly remarkable. The ambiance is also solid and well-maintained; there's really nothing to complain about. The food, unfortunately, is a completely different story. I ordered the "Schnitzel for Adults" and was disappointed. The schnitzel itself was rather small, the fries were meager, and the salad was a pitiful spoonful. By comparison, a child's portion at the table was considerably more generous: more fries, plenty of mixed vegetables, and the schnitzel was only slightly smaller. The adult portion is €19-20, while the child's portion is €12-15. For that price, I would have definitely expected a decent portion; here, you simply feel cheated. All in all, the food was disappointing. The service and ambiance were fine, but the restaurant has to accept significant deductions for the food.

It was a very delicious dinner. Excellent German cuisine. When making the reservation, the woman on the phone seemed a bit annoyed or stressed. Otherwise, nothing negative to say, everything was great!

During our short trip to the Harz Mountains, we ate at the Gasthaus Zum Wasserriesen today. The food was incredibly delicious, the portions generously sized, and the service truly friendly. We wanted a good, home-style meal today, and we didn't regret it. We highly recommend this inn.

I highly recommend the Gasthaus zum Wasserriesen. The food is excellent, the service is super friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy and pleasantly small. The dish I ordered was: 220g "Hubertus" rump steak with chili cheese butter and baked potatoes with herb quark. The chili cheese butter isn't spicy either and tastes simply delicious with the steak. Oh, and if you have fluffy feet (dogs), they're welcome. :D

It's simply delicious, a treat you can treat yourself to at the end of the day. We'll be back next time.

The service is super friendly. But over €22 for a schnitzel with a child's handful of fries isn't really our cup of tea. The taste is perfectly fine. To each his own, but the plates could definitely have been presented a bit more attractively. Not so bare and lacking in love. After all, eating is also a feast for the eyes.

According to the website, it's open from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends. I wanted to reserve a table. It wasn't possible, as hot food only starts at 3 p.m. (!), which is, just around coffee time. They say there's no kitchen staff, so opening hours are very variable. There's nothing about this on the website, just advertising the excellent food. A rip-off! I've never experienced anything like it. Potential guests are misled!

The schnitzel was, and I say this as a "schnitzel lover," first-class. The fried potatoes were also very good, but a little too few for me. The service was very attentive and friendly. From my perspective: highly recommended.

We stumbled upon the restaurant by chance and didn't have a reservation. Making a reservation is definitely recommended. We were lucky and managed to get a seat on the terrace. We celebrated a birthday in the upstairs hall. It was lovely. Delicious food and very friendly staff. The location of the inn was also fantastic. The small balcony off the hall offers a wonderful view.

I recently went to this restaurant's breakfast buffet and was very disappointed. For €17.99, I only received a roll, a cup of coffee, and a slice of sausage. The selection was extremely meager and didn't meet my expectations at all.

I'd like to share my experience from my recent visit to this restaurant. We had reserved a table for five people for breakfast to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Despite having made our reservation three weeks in advance, we were disappointed with the quality and service. The table was beautifully set, which made a positive impression. However, the offerings didn't live up to the expectations raised by the price of €17.99 per person. Breakfast consisted of simple, standard fare such as rolls, sausages, canned scrambled eggs, canned cereal, and cold coffee. There were no special extras or appealing presentation, and the service left much to be desired—we received little attention during the meal. What was particularly disappointing was that, despite having reserved in advance, we received no special service or presentation. For the price, I would have expected significantly higher-quality and more thoughtful preparation, perhaps even a breakfast platter to enhance the offering.

We had breakfast here today. Good value, good rolls and coffee. Everything was perfect for €17 including drinks. We'd be happy to go again!
