Unfortunately, we were guided by the reviews and were disappointed by the food. The value for money leaves a lot to be desired.

I highly recommend this restaurant. The server was extremely friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent.

The food was truly delicious, the service was excellent, and they even asked us a few times if we had any special requests. The entire restaurant is beautifully decorated. Even the drink return area (restroom) was clean and tidy. And all for under €25 per person thanks to the daily special. Highly recommended. Especially considering the proximity to the cable car, which normally results in high prices.

The food, unfortunately, is a completely different story. I ordered the "Schnitzel for Adults" and was disappointed. The schnitzel itself was rather small, the fries were meager, and the salad was a pitiful spoonful. By comparison, a child's portion at the table was considerably more generous: more fries, plenty of mixed vegetables, and the schnitzel was only slightly smaller. The adult portion is €19-20, while the child's portion is €12-15. For that price, I would have definitely expected a decent portion; here, you simply feel cheated. All in all, the food was disappointing. The service and ambiance were fine, but the restaurant has to accept significant deductions for the food.

It was a very delicious dinner. Excellent German cuisine. When making the reservation, the woman on the phone seemed a bit annoyed or stressed. Otherwise, nothing negative to say, everything was great!

During our short trip to the Harz Mountains, we ate at the Gasthaus Zum Wasserriesen today. The food was incredibly delicious, the portions generously sized, and the service truly friendly. We wanted a good, home-style meal today, and we didn't regret it. We highly recommend this inn.

I highly recommend the Gasthaus zum Wasserriesen. The food is excellent, the service is super friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy and pleasantly small. The dish I ordered was: 220g "Hubertus" rump steak with chili cheese butter and baked potatoes with herb quark. The chili cheese butter isn't spicy either and tastes simply delicious with the steak. Oh, and if you have fluffy feet (dogs), they're welcome. :D

It's simply delicious, a treat you can treat yourself to at the end of the day. We'll be back next time.

The service is super friendly. But over €22 for a schnitzel with a child's handful of fries isn't really our cup of tea. The taste is perfectly fine. To each his own, but the plates could definitely have been presented a bit more attractively. Not so bare and lacking in love. After all, eating is also a feast for the eyes.

According to the website, it's open from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends. I wanted to reserve a table. It wasn't possible, as hot food only starts at 3 p.m. (!), which is, just around coffee time. They say there's no kitchen staff, so opening hours are very variable. There's nothing about this on the website, just advertising the excellent food. A rip-off! I've never experienced anything like it. Potential guests are misled!

I'd like to share my experience from my recent visit to this restaurant. We had reserved a table for five people for breakfast to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Despite having made our reservation three weeks in advance, we were disappointed with the quality and service. The table was beautifully set, which made a positive impression. However, the offerings didn't live up to the expectations raised by the price of €17.99 per person. Breakfast consisted of simple, standard fare such as rolls, sausages, canned scrambled eggs, canned cereal, and cold coffee. There were no special extras or appealing presentation, and the service left much to be desired—we received little attention during the meal. What was particularly disappointing was that, despite having reserved in advance, we received no special service or presentation. For the price, I would have expected significantly higher-quality and more thoughtful preparation, perhaps even a breakfast platter to enhance the offering.

I recently went to this restaurant's breakfast buffet and was very disappointed. For €17.99, I only received a roll, a cup of coffee, and a slice of sausage. The selection was extremely meager and didn't meet my expectations at all.

Restaurant right next to the city park. We sat on the large terrace. The service was relaxed despite the busy place. Our orders came quickly, and the food was really good. The schnitzel was crispy, and the venison bratwurst with feta was delicious. It's definitely worth a visit!

Unfortunately, we had hoped for much more. The food was quite okay... a little more seasoning would have been nice, but it was okay. Service was unfortunately very inflexible; we only wanted to customize our meal with an egg... this isn't possible here. We had to beg for cutlery, and even a simple napkin was nowhere to be found. Dismal service with mediocre food!

I was dazzled by the good reviews and the slogan "It tastes best when freshly cooked" (as it says on the menu). I chose a vegetarian dish (pasta with leaf spinach and porcini mushrooms in a cream cheese sauce with pomegranate seeds). The chef had made a fussy effort to at least warm everything up, but it certainly wasn't "cooked": the pasta was still floury and almost unchewable (that had NOTHING to do with "al dente"). The cream cheese was crumbly and floating around the pasta, meaning it hadn't even been boiled, let alone stirred. The mushrooms had been thrown straight from the freezer into the sauce, so they were watery, rubbery, and tasteless. To call that cooking is a disgrace! The place itself, and the staff, seemed rather bar-like. Despite being fully booked, three out of four waiters were smoking at the same time and didn't care about the guests, food, or drinks for a full 20 minutes. I was quite disappointed.

Fries and potato wedges don't cost the earth, after all. I'll be back, and maybe I'll order another schnitzel.

A very nice restaurant, absolutely recommended. The food was simply delicious, people still take their time cooking here. It does take a little longer for the food to come to you, but the friendly staff point it out right at the beginning and it was really worth the wait.

We were there for dinner a few days ago. The service was very nice, but the asparagus and potatoes were presented absolutely carelessly. 3 sticks of asparagus with 1 1/2 potatoes for €15.70 is not cheap. But then I think it's cheeky not to even serve a bit of salad with it. It's a shame, it used to be much better. We then went somewhere else to eat the next evening and were very satisfied.

Unfortunately, an absolutely disappointing experience. The service was not only inattentive but downright frustrating. The drinks that you paid for in full always arrived half full - as if you didn't notice that something was missing. Even worse: I made it clear when I ordered what I didn't want - and it was brought to me anyway. It almost seemed as if no one cared what the guest wanted. For the prices you definitely expect more respect and attention. That's not how you treat guests - I'm definitely not coming back

A really great restaurant. Whenever we go hiking in the Harz, we like to end the day here. The food is incredibly tasty and the staff is super friendly. The prices are reasonable for the super delicious food. I've been here with the family on and off for 9 years and have never been disappointed. Especially the water giant burger with sweet potato fries is really incredibly good. I can only recommend everyone to have eaten here :)

To our chagrin, the water giant had already gone to rest at 8:25 p.m. on February 20, 2025. Contrary to the stated opening hours (until 10 p.m. on a Thursday), the display was stowed in the vestibule and the door was locked. Through the windows you could see a waitress setting the tables. Unfortunately, she and her colleagues in the kitchen didn't feel like having customers and wanted to do the same as the water giant. Too bad. I would have liked to write a hymn to the food and service if I had the chance... Good night, dear water giant!

Direct hit...our first visit, a complete success. The guest room in the entrance was completely full. We smell the fireplace in the room, no problem. The solyanka was tasty but it could have been a ladle more. Unfortunately there was no slice of bread or a small roll with it - but it wasn't on the menu either. Given the small amount, that would have been a nice gesture. Afterwards there was the baked potato (2) with herb quark and a salad. They were good. Overall okay, prices relatively high, service was nice.

We had a very nice visit to the restaurant. The service was very friendly, very attentive and quick. We needed some advice when choosing a meal, but that wasn't a problem for our friendly waitress. Starter soup: Tomato sauce and solyanka, both very tasty and well balanced with spices, main course: Scampi with dip and salad, served with bread with a light Cilly dip, great. Breaded schnitzel with Harzer cheese and fried potatoes, also super tasty. Dessert: yeast dumplings Plus a freshly tapped beer. What more could you want? To be on the safe side, I didn't count the calories.

When it comes to service, quality, friendliness and availability, it is the best address in Thale.

We were there for Christmas dinner on December 26th with 6 people. My grandma is in a wheelchair and had a great place. You could choose between 3 courses and you have to say that for the price-performance ratio, the portions were super large and tasty. We were served very quickly and friendly and that brings us to a very important point - our waitress was a young woman with red and black curls - she was so friendly and attentive and not the least bit intrusive. She even brought cookies for our grandma because of her sugar. I haven't had such friendly and loving service in a long time, despite the holidays. As we walked out we thanked them for the great service! We have reserved directly for 2025 and are already looking forward to it!

We have reserved a table especially for Christmas Day. I was so disappointed. The ambience is similar to a cold train station hall, no decorations or quiet Christmas background music. I had a fish dish and it was so underwhelming and completely overpriced. My husband had lasagne, this portion was quite manageable, but the price was higher. We were still hungry after this meal and went to a very good Italian restaurant. We should have done it straight away 🤷🏼‍♀️

Excellent service and festive food at the Gasthaus Zum Wasserriesen On Boxing Day I had a great feast at the Gasthaus Zum Wasserriesen. The duck with red cabbage and dumplings was perfectly cooked, as were the ox cheeks with pumpkin mashed potatoes and broccoli, which were tender and flavorful. What was particularly noteworthy was the attentive service. Despite being at full capacity, the staff took care of every detail - from an extra board for the wheelchair user to children's chairs. It was a completely successful visit with excellent food and very personal service.

The food was tasty, although not as hot as you would expect from venison goulash or roulade. The taste was good. No Christmas atmosphere, coziness is missing. Some of the staff were inattentive, maybe it was because of the time just before Christmas and their own inner attitude. The staff was friendly in any case.

Nothing here tastes like a finished product. The prices are reasonable and fair. Everything is clean and tidy. Ambience is always a matter of taste. The style of the environment could be a bit more rustic. But that doesn't detract from the basic comfort. We will definitely come back on our next visit to Thale.

We had booked a 3-day vacation with breakfast at the “Bodepark” hotel, which could be enjoyed in the “Wasserriese” restaurant. Of course we also had dinner there. Both breakfast and dinner were sufficient and very tasty. The restaurant was clean, the waitresses were friendly and prompt. The portion size was more than filling. In November the offer was half a duck with red and green cabbage and dumplings. My husband liked it very much, so the chef(s) received personal praise. Everything you need for a good, adequate breakfast was available at the breakfast buffet. Price/performance was okay.

Not a cozy atmosphere but the room is nice. Food too expensive, no fresh schnitzels but pressed meat and bought already breaded and far too little. And what doesn't work at all: Ketchup packets and mayonnaise packets are placed on the food plate. Just like the snack bar, only different prices! Very careless and putting bags that have passed through many hands on the food. From an environmental point of view, packaged things are very questionable anyway. Service was good.

Auf Nachfrage das wir gern bedient werden möchten, kam ein lapidares schnippisches „ kann ich nicht änder“. Der restliche „ Service“ war ebenfalls eher sparsam. Das Essen war mittelmäßig. Für uns, nicht zu empfehlen.
