Gasthaus Kaupen Nr.6 - Horst Koal in Lübbenau/Spreewald

I had already booked 18 places for mid-May in January 2025. Everything inside was already reserved, so the only option was outside. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't cooperating. It was raining and quite chilly at coffee time. The table was lovingly prepared. All my guests were immediately given warm blankets. Even though we had familiarized ourselves with the menu in advance, it was difficult to choose. So many varieties of yeast pancakes, a specialty of the Spreewald region. Many different varieties were chosen. I thought, oh dear, will this work? And it did. It was a breeze, and everyone was thrilled. I've eaten yeast pancakes many times, but never as delicious. For those who didn't want pancakes, there was also ice cream and cake – so there was something for every taste, as well as a variety of coffee drinks and teas. We'd love to come back again – hopefully in better weather...

Even though we didn't have a reservation, we were able to get a wonderful spot on the terrace for 11 people in beautiful weather. We were able to moor our boats in the spacious harbor. The service was super friendly and joking. The delicious, regional food arrived promptly. We were completely satisfied and can highly recommend the restaurant.

We visited the restaurant. We didn't have a reservation, but the friendly staff still managed to get us a table for a short time. The service was friendly and quick, and the two dishes we ordered (savory pancakes and beef dumplings) were delicious and generously sized! We would come back – but only with a reservation :)

We 'only' visited the restaurant, and it was simply fantastic. We encountered an exceptionally friendly team, great food, a superb beer garden right on the water, and can highly recommend Kaupen No. 6. See you soon... P.S.: Our little man was also well looked after.

Absolutely! Very good food and super friendly service

Culinary-wise, the Spreewald, at least in and around Lübbenau, is a nasty no-man's-land... If... well, if you don't go to Kaupen6. We had a reservation for six and, of course, sat right by the canal as the sun began to set. There were four different dishes for the six of us, so it was a bit of a cross-section of the menu. The standard: jacket potatoes with quark and linseed oil. You can't go wrong, but you can do a lot right. Here: everything was spot on. A good amount of linseed oil, the quark well-seasoned, garnished with dill and chives. The potatoes, in a decent number, were actually arranged in a small bowl as jacket potatoes and accompanied by a fresh salad. The child was delighted. Fried as if caught: Catfish fillet Simple but delicious with a choice of lemon and lime, boiled potatoes, and Spreewald cucumber salad in a small bowl. This came three times and was met with full approval just as often. Unusual: Red catfish fillet on a bed of vegetables with lemon and sprouts. I tried it: It was great. The fish lover who ordered it, however, couldn't stop raving about it. Not from around here: Redfish fillet, fruity and spicy with chili. Served with potatoes and feta. This dish easily rivaled my childhood memories. Grandma often had redfish in a green sauce with potatoes. Sweet and spicy with feta and fish... amazing. And what else? Dessert - pancakes. They were available in a poppy seed version, a gourmet version, a regular version with no frills, and a premium connoisseur version. We had them all, and everyone tried every single one: nothing but enchanted faces. We also had the opportunity to have a very curious conversation with the innkeeper, Junior (he won't agree with us on the name, but it is what it is :-)). It's great when someone loves their job so much that they don't just serve their guests, but also make it a little bit more personal. We had two weeks of vacation, but a visit to Kaupen6 would have been enough. We thank you very much and hope to be able to return here soon.

Highly recommended – no ifs, ands, or buts! Food and drinks with a twist, away from the usual hustle and bustle. Tip: You can find pancakes on every corner in the Spreewald, but the ones served here are the best ever! Top-notch service, with a cheerful chef.

A bit difficult to find, but once you're there, it's quite cozy in the rustic restaurant or in the beer garden right on the water. We only ate here, didn't stay overnight. Reservations are recommended.

An excellent restaurant in a fantastic location. My colleagues and I were traveling from Riesa to Berlin and decided to stop here for dinner. What a great choice! We knew nothing about the Spreewald Biosphere Reserve, but even as we approached the last kilometer, it was clear that this was not just another good restaurant, but something special. Upon our arrival, our expectations were not disappointed. The setting was beautiful, the food was fantastic, and the staff was incredibly kind. The only downside was arriving at 8:00 p.m. and discovering the kitchen closed at 8:30 p.m., with the restaurant closing at 9:00 p.m. The beer was also perfect. I recommend making a reservation, as the restaurant is relatively small.

A very concise but well-chosen menu with delicious seasonal specialties and fresh fish from the Spreewald region. A rustic ambiance and very attentive service. Parking is available approximately 700 meters away.

We can't comment on the rooms, but we were there for lunch. It was excellent, and the service was super friendly, attentive, and funny. We had a wonderful break there, and we'll be happy to stop by again if we're ever in the area!

We didn't sleep there, we just ate there. The restaurant inside is very cute and quaint. It is also very romantic and nice outside by the small rivers. The food was very tasty. Cucumber salad a bit “expensive” for its size. The wines were really good - the Scheurebe was extremely sparkling and delicious! The service: very friendly and has a sense of humor, like everywhere else in the Spreewald - everyone is very quick-witted 😉😃🙏 Restaurant: highly recommended

Yesterday we had dinner at Kaupen Nr 6 with 12 friends. The selection of seasonal and regional dishes is great. Everything tasted great and was very nicely prepared. Although the restaurant is only accessible via the waterway or a short walk from the parking lot, I highly recommend it. It is very romantically located and the interior is a great mix of modern and traditional. The service is also an A+. I'd love to come back

We like to come here in summer and enjoy this great, quiet place right on the Spree. Great device & authentic food.

First of all, I can't rate the rooms, they were only for eating. ^^ We didn't know the restaurant until today, but we would definitely recommend it to everyone. The service is absolutely top! This applies to all employees - attentive, friendly, not stressed even though they are busy. Always a smile on your face. The man of the house does his homework when it comes to customer service and cooperation with the employees. With the young guests, you are on a great wavelength with casual sayings. The menu is small, but everyone will find something. Be it fish, meat or vegetarian dishes. The dishes are visually presented very attractively. But not overly fancy. The dishes are seasonal. The children's menu is well presented - nice, imaginative names, but behind them there are typical children's dishes. Our group had dishes across the menu. My chicken with foccia was super tasty. The herbal plins is a visual and taste highlight. We will definitely come back!

We were there on a short trip. The operation was ok, but the toilet facilities left a lot to be desired. Regardless of the fact that it is an older model, they weren't really cleaned and you actually had the impression that it was just about making money instead of providing the service that comes with it. We would refrain from another visit.

Mega romantic and sweetly hidden. The journey is worth it. When you arrive you will feel the magic of the Spreewald. Cell phone off! Enjoy . You can write when you get back home. Discovered by chance during the boat trip and recommended. Visited unexpectedly, very pleasantly surprised. The location, directly on the Spreewald, does not need to be mentioned. 😉 Now the restaurant is one of the best German restaurants I have visited so far. The fish soup and fish fillet with creamy sauce were really tasty, and the cucumber salad with dill and sweet and sour cream was simply delicious and refreshing. We would definitely come again to try other menus.

I thought potatoes with quark and linseed oil would be relatively comparable everywhere. But that was sensational! And then in the relaxed garden atmosphere by the river. Nice for a relaxing afternoon 🙌🏼☀️

Wonderful! The friendliness and warmth with which you are welcomed and served is unique. Thanks. Many regional dishes are superbly prepared. You can sit beautifully outside directly on the canal. Inside, guests can expect a no less beautiful dining room with an old tiled stove. The Plins for dessert are probably the best in the Spreewald. For us the best restaurant in the Spreewald.

We got a place in this beautiful place without a reservation and were served very nicely, including entertaining conversations. The food is really amazing; Rarely have we eaten so well - at fair prices! You definitely have to go here to enjoy excellent cuisine and life.

Nice restaurant right on the water. Six of us spontaneously came to have a little something to eat. Although many tables were reserved and it was very full, a table was made available for us and we were served very friendly. Even short waiting times were communicated openly and warmly. The lentils were delicious. We would love to come back and try more of the menu. Update: a year after our first visit, we remembered to make a reservation here on our trip to the Spreewald and had a great time. We sat at the front by the water and ate great food. I also thought it was great to be able to try vegan/vegetarian dishes that aren't available everywhere.

We were there for lunch today. From starter to main course to dessert, everything was top. Service very nice, location very nice, price ok for what is on offer. All in all, highly recommended.

Already the second time there and always impressed by the nice, friendly service and the helpful boss. The drinks are chilled to perfection, the food is very delicate and prepared with a lot of love. Even when things are busy, you will receive quick and friendly service and you will receive your ordered food just as quickly. A must when visiting the Spreewald - even if Kaupen No. 6 is a bit off the beaten track. The view and the landscape directly on the canal is beautiful and the raftsmen would also drop you off on the canal right in front of the restaurant and pick you up again! Always my pleasure!

Very nice restaurant, wonderful view, delicious food. Tables by the water are very popular, so make sure you reserve them well in advance. Luckily you don't park your car directly there, but rather a short walk away.

Traditional Spreewald cuisine (potatoes with quark and linseed oil, grützwurst, etc.) plus a seasonally changing range of fresh and delicious dishes. The selection of the numerous (alcoholic) drinks is also predominantly from the region. The restaurant has an outdoor and indoor area. Outside you can watch the paddlers and SUPs driving past. Some also dock straight away and stop off. For drivers: The nearest parking lot is approx. 400-500m away. You can only get directly to the restaurant on foot or by water.

It's a great place, quiet, top service and delicious food. I think the prices are a bit high but it tastes great. Roast beef, zander and delicious children's dishes: everything is included. Definitely worth a visit. Be sure to reserve your table!

Ideal for traveling paddlers. The service was super friendly and very quick. We only had a small snack, of course with yeast puff pastries.

We spontaneously had dinner at the location on a Sunday evening. The staff was great, the location was nice/cozy, with a modern but regional range of food, definitely very tasty. You can sit inside or outside and I can only recommend it.

The restaurant is located in a truly fabulous location, by the canal, in beautiful natural surroundings. There is a small playground on site and a space to park a kayak. Very nice, smiling and helpful staff. Tasty fish, well seasoned. The schnitzels are good, although quite hard. We recommend!

Really nice restaurant in a great location, right on the canal. The super delicious lentils are highly recommended, whether with applesauce or the “festive lentils” with creamy vanilla soft ice cream. Many thanks also to the friendly staff! We really liked it and we will definitely come back.

We went to Kaupen Nr 6 for an early dinner in July. It was truly a wonderful visit, the wait staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating and the food was fabulous. The menu was regional and I accidentally ordered black pudding, even though I don't eat that kind of thing. And I really enjoyed it! A nice quiet place. We docked in the canoe, there was enough space. We'd love to come back. Thank you!

Wir waren auf gut Glück zum Kaupen gefahren. Und wir hatten Glück, zum Abend waren alle Tische reserviert. Das gab uns 2,5 Stunden für ein großartig leckeres Essen. Die Mannschaft ist super freundlich, der Service bestens ... das Essen hat uns sehr glücklich gemacht.

Very nicely located with a great view of the barges and paddle boats passing by. The food is delicious and very plentiful. There are mainly typical dishes from the Spreewald region. Vegetarian and vegan dishes are also on offer. There is a small playground for the children. Very nice staff. The toilets are very well maintained. This place is not directly accessible by car. Nurit bike, walk or paddle boat.

A very nice restaurant located right on the water. We were able to dock the boat straight away. The staff was friendly. The food was very tasty and in my opinion sufficient. The price is also okay, considering that everything is freshly prepared and the products come from the region. I can only recommend Kaupen 6 and would be happy to come back.

Owner-managed with love for perfection, restaurant at star level. Be sure to reserve! Thematic menu changes every month, simply great. We have now used the holiday apartment on the upper floor twice (1x winter, 1x summer). Always great and unique. There is no air conditioning for sunny summer periods. Overall, unique, right on the river. Highly recommended for couples exploring the Spreewald as a base, own boat dock and unique breakfast experiences on the terrace included...

Mega nice restaurant in a really romantic place. The food and service are absolutely great. The prices are very fair. Be sure to reserve a table in advance and note opening times. The restaurant can be easily reached by bike or on foot (the car must be parked about 500 meters in front of it).

The restaurant is located directly on the river, so you can easily get there by kayak. The personnel is very friendly and courteous. There is very tasty food made from regional products here. Be sure to reserve a table. We would love to come back, even on foot 😉

Had a great dinner, everything freshly cooked from local eggs. We had extremely tasty fish soup, beef dumplings with horseradish sauce, blind fish and hamburgers from the special menu. Fantastically located beer garden right on the water

I got a seat in the lovely garden, next to the water. The main waiter was clear, friendly and very organised. I had the excellent babbenberg beer, and I ordered fish, on a tomato veggies bed. The fish was soft and gentle, excellently prepared. The sauce and veggies were full of flavour. Soft but still with enough bite. I think the dish itself was a little confused if it wanted to be a gentle subtle caress, or a full flavoured experience. However when I left I felt totally satisfied and fulfilled in a way that very few dinners made me feel. Worth the visit, either by boat or walk. I know I’ll be back once I get the chance!

Fantastic location. Easily accessible by kayak (jetty at the playground with a small jetty). Very tasty healthy food. Totally nice young staff. We got a table straight away without a reservation on a Sunday, but it also seemed to have been a quiet day. A place where you like to stay.

The restaurant has the best German food we've ever had. The service was outstanding with a super helpful and kind staff going out of their way to make us feel welcome. I'm celiac and can confirm they have gluten-free options! The scenery is gorgeous by the river and the prices are fair for the experience. Highly recommend and definitely coming back

Wir raten gleich zweimal im Gasthaus. Jeweils abends. Sehr schönes Ambiente zum draußen sitzen, der Inhaber versteht etwas von Gastronomie und wie man seine Gäste umsorgt. Nettes Personal, dazu wirklich sehr gute Küche. Die Karte ist klein, bietet aber für jeden etwas. Fisch, Fleisch, vegetarisch. Gute Nachtische. Gute Auswahl an Schnäpsen. Die Küche ist einheimisch regional aber mit leichten Abwandlungen z.B. Fisch auf Ratatouille mit Salat untergemischt und Mandeln. Oder Kräuterplinse als Spreewalder Wrap Variante. Absolut zu empfehlen.
