Fine food from young team...fish soup was perfect

We highly recommend the Gasthaus Engel. We visited twice during our short vacation at the end of March. We had the roast beef with onions, schnitzel, the Überlingen gourmet plate, and the falafel with lentil hummus. Everything was delicious, and the service was very friendly, courteous, and prompt. The value for money is very good. Since we vacation in Überlingen regularly, we will definitely be guests at the Engel again. Best wishes from Regensburg until then.

The food and the exceptionally good service in the Engel restaurant convinced me to my complete satisfaction. I ordered the Viennese onion roast, which was of excellent quality.

We felt very comfortable and welcome, even though we hadn't made a reservation. There was a lot going on, the service was courteous, confident and in a good mood. The food was really good (beef broth with herb pancakes, ÜBERLINGER SCHLEMMERTELLER! 😋 1x with cheese spaetzle / 1x with butter spaetzle). Highly recommended. Special requests were also taken into account. The wines come from the region and were very good, as was the elderberry spritzer. We will be back and wish the dedicated team continued success.

I'm writing this review to save you the money and pain. The only thing that is commendable is the hospitality in this restaurant. Everything else is inadequate. Eat: It started with me having to wait 3/4 hour for my dish, even though around 3 to 4 tables were occupied during my stay. I ordered the so-called gourmet plate (2 steaks on cheese spaetzle with mushrooms and cream sauce). What can I say? The spaetzle was actually noodles and half raw, instead of mushrooms there were fried onions, which I didn't order and in my opinion the price was too high. Ambiance: I don't mind the old-fashioned decor. However, if you look closer here and there, you can see blemishes everywhere. What was particularly noticeable were the high accumulations of crumbs on the tables and in the gaps in the seats, which had stains here and there that were not nice to look at. Service: As already mentioned, all the employees we met were very nice. But as time passed, the smiles on their faces disappeared. Probably when they saw me trying to choke down the food. This inn is not recommended and for me there will be no second visit. I hope I could help you with this review.

We were there for lunch on a Saturday. We were there with the voucher book and were greeted extremely friendly and courteously. Upon request, we were even able to order a dish that wasn't on the lunch menu. The lentil curry was wonderfully exotically spiced, the accompanying vegetables were still tasty, crunchy and not overcooked. My side salad was versatile, fresh, filling with a good dressing. And the rösti with cheese gratin and oven-baked vegetables was still really hot and crispy. And the vegetables also have a bite. The portions are generous and the price-performance ratio is very good good. The extremely friendly waiter and chef deserve high praise.

We were there on Saturday in front of the Nolte Theater. The gourmet block caught our attention. As soon as we made the reservation over the phone, the friendly gentleman on the other end of the line noticed. We had already studied the menu in advance, it is not large, but small cards are usually a guarantee of freshness. According to the menu and the phone call, the ingredients come from the region. Then on Saturday on site, the reception in the somewhat outdated guest room was very friendly. The menu came quickly, we decided on the roast beef and the omelette with vegetables. The drinks came quickly, as did the food. The friendly restaurant specialist asked my partner if she would like some cream sauce with the omelette, she took it too, which was good, she said because the omelette was bland, but otherwise the omelet was very good. The onion roast was perfectly fried and the jus was very good. The spaetzle, I would say, was homemade; it had a pleasant note of nutmeg, which is rarely found today. When I was finished, the cellar asked if it was enough or if I would like some follow-up service. Since I wasn't full yet, I accepted the offer. A short time later I got a few more spaetzle and some sauce. All in all we really liked and enjoyed it. The prices are more than fair for the location and quality. Thank you for the friendly and good service.

It was really nice and the food was delicious. The portion sizes were great. The food was fresh and adapted to the season. The menu was clear and tailored to the session and was completely sufficient. I can only recommend the restaurant. Also hospitable and accommodating.

The quality of the food was great. The meat was super tender and the spaetzle was homemade. I had the apprentice's recommendation and he outdid himself. Unfortunately we didn't have a great stay here. Unfortunately, the draft beer that my companion wanted was out because the keg was empty and there was no employee on site who could connect a new one. The same thing with the second draft beer... The two waiters were friendly and tried hard but I think they weren't that experienced yet. I completely understand that, I come from the catering industry myself. We didn't eat anything because our bellies were already full. At the next table, however, a group left a lot of leftovers and reported back that the food didn't taste good. Unfortunately, the response to the feedback wasn't very constructive. At the other table next to us the cutlery was missing even though the food was already there and it took a long time to arrive. At the other table, a lady waited a long time for her wine. There weren't any more tables, so there wasn't much activity, the empty tables were mostly untidy - not a very nice picture. Maybe we had unfortunate timing, but at least one trained worker should always be on a shift, here a little too much went wrong at once - no criticism of the (probably) untrained service staff - no master has fallen from heaven yet 🙃

Food was very tasty. Some salt was missing, but that's probably personal taste. It's better to add too little salt yourself than too much. The “2nd row” means it’s a few euros cheaper than the restaurants directly on the promenade.

The old building is surprising as soon as you enter, as what you are looking for here is by no means an outdated inn, as the name might suggest, but rather a modern, open facility. What was particularly pleasantly surprising was the demand for whether the portions were large enough or whether something could be added later. It is important to know who wants to eat here with the gourmet block: the voucher must be registered when ordering, otherwise it cannot be taken into account.

The welcome was warm and professional, the atmosphere elegant yet cozy. The menu was a true feast of flavors and textures. Every dish was prepared with the utmost care and creativity, the ingredients were fresh and of the highest quality. Particularly noteworthy are the imaginative starters and the main courses, which exploded with flavor. The dessert creations were not only a visual highlight, but also a treat for the palate. A special highlight was the blueberry lemon lemonade – refreshing, perfectly balanced and simply delicious! The service was attentive without being intrusive, and our waiter accompanied us throughout the evening with great expertise. The Gasthaus Engel in Überlingen is a fine highlight, also suitable for our group of six people. The cozy atmosphere and friendly service are really pleasant. First - the wait staff was nice and attentive. The onion roast was weak. Thin meat, store-bought roasted onions and the sauce tasted like Aldi's. For 29 euros I expect more. Drinks are also upscale. Herbal lemonade = syrup with soda for 4.50 euros at 0.4 I don't like it either. If this were homemade lemonade it would be okay. But like that... Weak and not worth the money.

Great food in the old town atmosphere. There was Allgäu cheese spaetzle and the fish platter. Before that, a greeting came from the kitchen with tomato pesto and bread. We have rarely seen such lovingly prepared food. Full recommendation

More appearance than reality... We were there as a group, the atmosphere and coziness were nice. Drink prices higher than in the armory where we were yesterday. The portions were also larger there. Grill "plate" for 22 euros was very clear! 1 mini grilled sausage, 1 mini pork steak (approx. 4x8 cm...) and turkey (also small), few vegetables, potato wedges were ok in quantity - tasted good. Schnitzel Viennese style about 18 euros was only 1 and not very big. Wholemeal dumplings were ok in terms of price and performance. When we asked the waitress when we were paying, we gave our feedback. They said that you could always get a second helping with the grill plate, but the waitress probably forgot to mention that. But there wasn't even a schnapps/espresso as an apology. About half of our group wasn't really full. Everything tasted fine.

We were there now (beginning of April 24) in the preseason. It wasn't very busy, but they really put a lot of effort into looking after us as guests. The food was excellent and the portions were just right. The wine list is available upon request, but here it would be better to provide the wine list directly with the menu.
