They served the food really fast but that came with a price: it was literally cold! It felt like they microwaved the foods but the center was still cold.

Food was okay, especially the cheese spaetzle could use more character

Unfortunately I can't say anything about the food, it didn't get that far. We wanted to sit outside and in the shade. All tables were occupied except for 2 higher tables with stools. They were suitable for 6 people, there were two of us and we sat there. If someone had sat down with us it wouldn't have bothered us. When the waitress came, we wanted to order. Instead of taking our order, the waitress asked us to move to another table (for 4 people) that had just become free "in case a larger group came". OK But instead of taking our order, she calmly arranged the tables and chairs at the two tables for 6 and didn't pay any attention to us. OK, you have to prioritize. We then went somewhere else.

Pleasantly surprised. Varied menu of portions to share and snack on. The food was very delicious. The atmosphere is a little overwhelming because the tables are very close to each other and barely fit 4 people. In our case they forgot a dish from the order and it took them a while to serve us, but the truth is that with the terrace and the interior they were packed.

The food was actually good, just some of it was cold. The main problem was that there was no information about the courts. When asked whether there was alcohol in a dish, the answer was "actually yes", but the service asked again exactly in the kitchen and there was some in it. Nuts in apple strudel were also not labeled. But the service and the ambience were great.

Food was ok. Service was a disaster: Waited forever for the food, the waiter walked past us several times after eating - no questions, nothing. Then we got up and went to the checkout to pay. Even after pointing out that it was some of the worst service, no apology and just an embarrassed grin.

Goulash was completely chewy with hard carrots. Toilet stinks of urine. Service takes forever. Nice furnishings.

Tapas are a bit pricy for my taste but food came to the table really quick, nice atmosphere and 0.7 litre of the house wine was 12€ - so cheap drinks and nice atmosphere. Very recommendable.

We visited this restaurant with high expectations, given the number of positive reviews. Unfortunately, our experience was quite mediocre. We were seated on the opposite side of the street, where they hadn’t set up umbrellas, so we ended up sitting under the hot sun for almost 1.5 hours. It was an uncomfortable experience. The ordering system, which relies on a QR code, was convenient for placing food and beverage orders. However, when it comes to the food itself, we were disappointed. We ordered the Rindgulasch and Maultaschen. The meat in the Rindgulasch was tough and lacked tenderness, and the Maultaschen had a hard outer coating with a filling that didn’t have the right texture. On a positive note, the staff was friendly and polite, which was the only highlight of our visit.

On business travel from US, our supplier colleague recommended we try Gasthaus Bären. A brief 10-15 minute walk from our Hotel. Wr arrived just after 7:30pm, and it was one of the only restaurants still open in the town center. You could smell the food from the outside. We walked in, and they were packed. They accept reservations, but we didn't think we would need one for a Wednesday evening, but they had 2 options available, a tabletop by the kitchen or the corner of the bar. We opted for the bar. The sitting area was a little tight, but comfortable. The tables around us were seated with guests the entire time. We ordered a variety of dishes to sample between the 3 of us. We had the sausage platter, breaded oyster mushrooms, sauerkraut, rosemary potatoes, tomato meatballs, and a bread basket. We tried a variety of Fischers beers and specialty cocktails over the course of 2 hours. Fair price for the tapas and drinks. The lighting and music were great. We were able to have a conversation and enjoy our evening away from work. We were looking to sample some authentic Swabian food, and this place far exceeded our expectations. Definitely add this to your Itinerary if you're in the area, but make a reservation or be prepared to wait. Multiple options available for ordering through QR code or with service staff. The service was amazing! We asked the locals about the area, they were knowledgeable. Everyone was kind and helpful to explain the German dishes that we didn't recognize and didn't translate well. I will definitely be back on my next trip to Germany!

I know the restaurant from Stuttgart, where I've always enjoyed my last meals. Unfortunately, the quality at this restaurant in Tübingen was truly disappointing. Many of the "small plates" we ordered were only lukewarm or almost cold (not a single one was truly warm), and the overall taste was hardly a masterpiece either. Two of our dishes had a hair in them. The table reserved for five people was much too small. Especially with this model, where the goal is to order multiple dishes, you need a bit more space. But even in a bar, a table like that would probably seat three to four people at most. Personally, I don't like the high tables with backless bar stools either—but you might disagree. The whole thing seems to have been thought through. Unfortunately, the criticism was addressed in a friendly manner, but there was no attempt at improvement or compensation, which is quite common in such cases. Overall, a very disappointing experience for me.

Four of us went to Bären Tübingen, having already known the restaurant from Stuttgart, which is unfortunately always very loud. Unfortunately, the Tübingen location perfectly combines all the disadvantages of a restaurant. The restaurant was not only loud (especially due to the music at the beginning, and later due to other guests), but the food was also really bad. We had a total of 10 different dishes. Most of the dishes were cold, low in salt, or tasteless. Dumplings: We don't understand why there was paprika in this dish. Chicken in honey mustard sauce: (We only used honey, much too sweet) Fried oyster mushrooms: Surprisingly good, unfortunately with a 30cm layer of black hair. Cheese spaetzle: Very cold, the second portion was also very runny. Schupfnudelen: Rubbery, but warm. Goulash: Tough, the potatoes were cold from the refrigerator. Lentils: Dry, cold, and overall very low in salt and tasteless. Schnitzel: Was okay, rather dry. The potato salad was definitely not a good one from a packet. Meatballs: were okay, at least warm. The table was a disgrace for the five people we ordered; a maximum of two could have eaten at it. Luckily, we were able to move to the neighboring table. The high tables are generally not conducive to eating or lingering. Apple spritzer is only available as a 0.3 liter bottle, and then only as a 0.5 liter bottle, which is also inconvenient. The service was rather slow; if we had wanted to reorder, it wouldn't have been possible. Our criticism at the end of the restaurant was simply dismissed, as if we heard it every day. I can't understand the good reviews. The toilets are worse than any rest stop toilet. I've never experienced a smell like that, and the graffiti and stickers could definitely be removed. The towel dryer is broken. They could have at least provided towels. It's a real shame, because the concept is very nice.

In general the food was okay, but it has not so much to do with real schwäbischen food. What was really missing from the restaurant is a potato salad.

There are tables in the corridor to the toilet and it smells like an unclean toilet. Men's toilet smeared and stickered. I won't be entering this restaurant again. My companions also had this impression. We were there for dinner on March 14, 2025 in the evening.

The food was delicious, but unfortunately our experience was marred by the poor service and unfriendly staff. Despite reservations, we were seated at a table that was far too small for 5 people. When we asked if we could move to a larger table, we were told no. The table was maybe okay for 2 people. The food didn't even fit on the table and we sometimes ate while standing up to use the chairs as a place to put tapas. I will not visit this restaurant again.

Unfortunately, the food wasn't good at all - some of it was oversalted, the sauces tasted strongly of convenience. The atmosphere was a strange mix of old and modern, with pop radio music from the 90s. Toilet was carelessly furnished and smelled really bad. Tables and chairs were uncomfortable, too close together and wobbled. The prices would be ok if the rest had been right. Service was nice and attentive!

I can 100% recommend the restaurant, definitely worth a detour to Tübingen!

Super rustic pub with very good food and friendly service

Swabian tapas at the highest level!! This restaurant takes Swabian cuisine to a new level - in tapas form and with incredible quality! Every small portion is a culinary highlight. The goulash is a dream: tender, spicy and with a sauce that is perfectly seasoned. The Maultaschen tapas impress with their fine dough and a hearty filling. The salads are fresh and creative, but the quinoa salad particularly stands out - a harmonious combination of lightness and taste. And the mushrooms? Simply delicious, perfectly cooked and full of flavor! In addition, there is attentive and friendly service, which makes the visit a real experience. An unbeatable price-performance ratio completes the whole thing. A must for anyone who wants to enjoy Swabian cuisine in modern tapas form - absolutely recommended!

Sitting is not comfortable. The chairs are not stable. The food was tasty and arrived fast. We had to wait around 15 min to pay.

We went there last week in a group of seven people for a birthday on a recommendation. The ambience is rustic and beautiful. Unfortunately, the food was either not seasoned at all or was too salty. We wanted to know whether there was bread with the sausage salad, which was answered in the negative. However, we were told that we could order an extra bread basket, which we did. The bread basket came first, and a while later the waitress informed us that there would be no sausage salad. We asked that the bread basket be canceled again. She told us that wasn't possible because we had ordered it and otherwise they would have to throw it away. After discussion, she took the bread basket back with her. Unfortunately, not once during the meal did a waitress come to take further orders or inquire. There was also no question when paying, and when I was told that the food wasn't that good, all I got was an "Okay, thank you". Unfortunately, for the price, the service and the taste of the food, it was really bad.

We went here on a Monday evening and were surprised that it was so busy. We were lucky that we got a table in the bar area - the chairs there are made for very (!) narrow people ;-) The dumplings with mushroom ragout and the Maultaschen are highly recommended, pleasant music volume, nice staff. Card payment is possible. Everything is great!

We used to enjoy going to the Bären often, especially with guests from outside, like yesterday. Unfortunately, the quality is no longer quite right, the portions are slightly larger and have become significantly more expensive. In other words, you order less, so the tapas concept is somewhat lost. The food itself was a bit bland, none of the dishes were really warm and the taste didn't blow us away. The meat of goulash was dry. The fact that you don't get a glass of tap water with half a liter of wine also speaks for itself. Likewise, we had to sit in the hallway to the toilet. If we had come without visitors, I wouldn't have sat there. Profit maximization to the max! What should be mentioned positively is the friendliness of all the employees we came into contact with.

I remember the Bären as a nice, rustic restaurant with delicious tapas. Today we were very disappointed. We had to wait a long time - for a table, for the order. When asked about gluten-free, the service staff was overwhelmed, the allergen list was not up to date and did not match the menu. For prices I think you should be able to expect more.

I used to always like going to Bären, but the price-performance ratio is absolutely no longer right. The food didn't taste fresh and was totally over salted. In general, I was no longer impressed with the taste. When I billed I was then charged 5 euros too much. That was my last visit there.

More of a bar with tapas than a restaurant, which we didn't realize beforehand. Despite the other expectations, one can say objectively and fairly: the concept of the food and selection is trendy and quite appealing, the quality, even considering the price, is not at all convincing. Service: nice people but disorganized. We had a reservation for 5 p.m. After we rejected the tiny table right in front of the toilets, which would hardly have fit plates for two people, after a short wait they found another small table for us. 45 minutes later we finally had drinks in our hands. All in all, unfortunately a very disappointing visit.

Had an awesome mouthwatering Traditional German Food 😋

It was our first visit here, sadly I regret coming here to spend my money. Positive: The waiters were nice, food came quickly. The Spätzle and Schnitzel were good. Negative: Unfortunately they have terrible chairs super uncomfortable, hard not to fall off. Also I wouldn’t recommend ordering the dumplings (Knödel) they were super salty I couldn’t finish them and I told the waitress and she didn’t offer me something else to eat or anything :( The portions are also very small. After our visit, we were still hungry and got more food at the street market.

Tapas-sized portions. That would be fine if the quality were good. It wasn't. I had chicken breast which was tough as old boots. The 'salad' was a few mini scraps of iceberg lettuce and a few cocktail tomatos. Regarding service: absolute minimal contact with personel. You have to order online and someone brings it. That's it. There was an option to add a tip when paying. For what, I wonder. Could have been so much better.

The food was a children's portion and you didn't get full, you had to order something with the schnitzel. 11€ for spaetzle and then 1€ for sauce is excessive, we were sent from waitress to waitress, I would give fewer stars but I'm being nice I don't do this.

The four of us only had a small bar table with bar stools and the portions were very small, you won't get full without ordering a lot of side dishes.

Time slots for reservations are relatively short and we were first informed that we had to leave in ten minutes even though they still took our food order. No allergens on the menu. The city of Tübingen's official document on barrier-free restaurants states that the Bären is completely barrier-free, which is not true. There are several steps and even if they weren't there, there isn't enough space between the tables for a wheelchair to get through.

Went to BÄREN for a spontaneous little dinner. The shop was very busy, with lots of students and guests who enjoyed drinking. The service was great. Fast, even when reordering. The food came very quickly, as did the wine. First of all: "Swabian tapas" are advertised here, I found the portions to be significantly larger. My cheese spaetzle was very filling. However, the taste was more like 3/5...cheese was weak...everything was so bland. The rocket tomato feta salad is quite nice. Of the wine, I liked the rosé house wine. If this is the new concept, good luck with it 😉… Incomprehensible and disappointing.

What can I say - I walked in and out the door with mixed feelings. The food was very good and didn't take too long to arrive. The waitresses were very quick and extremely friendly. The ambience also invites you to linger. However, there are two main points that really bother me: -It's very, very loud. We were sitting around the corner at the high tables behind the room and the music was still coming at us at such a volume that we had to speak to each other in a very loud tone. Unfortunately, the acoustics themselves do not allow for a quiet atmosphere. -Paying over €5 for a 0.3L soft drink is almost a bit ridiculous, just like the cheese spaetzle and other dishes that cost around €10 per serving. The two of us paid €60. We were full, but I think that for almost €10 per portion, at least a large portion could have been served. Of course I don't know where the ingredients for the dishes come from, but if everything was organic and regional, the price would be justified. If that doesn't bother you, there's absolutely nothing wrong here. :)

Really nice restaurant in downtown Tübingen, where you mainly meet a lot of young people. The (mostly Swabian) food there is very tasty and the idea of ​​Swabian tapas such as Maultaschen or Kässpätzle is really good. You can get your fill relatively cheaply here and you don't have to dig deep into your pockets for small extras. Vegetarians will also find what they are looking for here, for example with Schupfnudeln and sauerkraut or the large selection of salads. The dishes themselves are really tasty, but otherwise they are pretty “basic”, so there are few really unusual creations. But this doesn't really break a single point out of the crown. The way you can order here is relatively interesting. In addition to the classic controls, you can order directly to the kitchen using a QR code. Really good place, but it doesn't necessarily blow you away, hence 4/5.

Auf der Homepage steht zwar dass es nur 8er Tische gibt und man etwas zusammen rücken muß, wenn ich aber für 10 Personen einen Platz buche und dieser bestätigt wird, dann aber alle an einen 6er Tisch "gepfercht" werden sollen und dann nicht nach einer Lösung gesucht sondern patzig darauf verwiesen wird, dass es im Internet steht dass es eng wird, dafür haben wir kein Verständnis und so eine Kneipe kann ich wahrlich nicht weiter empfehlen!!

Yesterday I had an appointment with my mother to have tapas there, as we are in Tübingen quite often and wanted to try something new, so I read a few reviews and so we met at Bären. We ordered the turkey pan for €9.80, cheese spaetzle for €7.40 and the dumplings with mushrooms for €7.80. The price-performance ratio can be rated as insufficient for the quality offered, 5 mini pieces of completely dead fried turkey that you almost couldn't chew, but the cheese spaetzle were lukewarm and overcooked and in an indefinable, unseasoned cream cheese sauce. Anyone who thinks that the dumplings with mushrooms were better has lost their last hope here, the mushrooms come from a can and you actually have to look for these four sparsely divided pieces of canned mushrooms in a white, indefinable sauce. Dear people, that was really nothing, as a guest I normally speak up if something doesn't taste good, but I didn't do that yesterday because this food is deliberately sold to customers here and it wasn't an oversight if the chef made a bad one day might have had.

Swabian tapas, cool concept. But in this place two words are enough to communicate. THANK YOU when the drink or food is brought, YES when you are asked if you would like to pay by card. There is no more interaction when everything goes smoothly. It's not my thing to do everything via the app, I prefer communicating with people than with computers. But I'm old school. Otherwise the concept with the Swabian tapas is actually very original. But for individuals it would be nice if the portions were a little smaller. I've already had more than enough of two tapas. Of course, several people can swap, so you can snack on additional courses. The food was good, but as far as I can tell as a non-Swabian, not the absolute top cuisine. But cool restaurant. One waitress sent me to a colleague to pay, who then referred me to a colleague. Maybe it could be even easier. But at least more than just two words. And if you want to give a drink, you also need a number word. Oh, I still have one point. Spaetzle with lentils with and without strings are the same price? Is the meat that cheap or did I not read correctly?

Great restaurant in a great location for an idyllic stay! I think it's good that you can order yourself. What I would improve is that you can also call a waiter using your cell phone. The food tastes very tasty, I think the principle of small portions is great! There should be something for everyone. I don't think it's all that cheap. I ate 4 portions alone. Generally fifth but 3 will be sufficient! In terms of price, I still think it's reasonable because the quality and everything else is really great. Service is quick and very friendly. Gladly again!

I was always a big fan of the bear, but the quality of the food has declined significantly. Prices have become incredibly expensive. 5 pieces of dry turkey pieces €9.80!!! Tap water costs just €4.90 for 0.5 liters and is not offered free of charge, even though you can eat there in a small group for more than €100. I could live with the prices if at least the quality of the food/meat was appropriate. The waitresses were very nice and accommodating. For the prices you can drink and eat much better elsewhere in Tübingen.

Great concept of tapas style German food. Food was delicious and not that smaller plates. Good options for vegetarians. Not a fan of ordering on and through qr code, but at least that was pretty painless but could have done with some photos of the dishes. Good way to try lots of types of German food in one sitting with friends or loved ones.

In summer, crowds of people outside the door. The student staff drags and hustles so that the order doesn't take too long. And that works. Tapas-based dishes, so rather small portions. We recommend zucchini meatballs. We also tried the dumplings with mushroom sauce, but they were too soggy for us. The mushrooms used are canned. This could be changed with little effort. It could be 50 cents more expensive. Will have to come back for the other dishes.

Puh, was soll man da sagen?! Studentischer Flair, genauso war das Essen. Warum hier jemand „ausgezeichnet“ bewertet ist uns schleierhaft. beim anschließenden Bummel durch Tübingen haben wir ein Dutzend ansprechende Lokale mit besseren Speisen gesehen. Und die Preise sind übrigens auch nicht Studenten like. Gerne nie wieder.

I liked that they had different options at not so high prices (around 8 to 10 euros for each small plate), so you can try different options. The rosé wine arrived naturally, but they knew how to give us ice immediately. The Apfelstrudel with Vanilla cream is the best I have tried in recent times. It seems to be a fairly busy place between 6 and 8 p.m.

This place was a total disaster. They have a "baby" portions and you should take lots of side dishes. But even if you do so you will remain so hungry. The other points it's so disgusting toilets, so horribly dirty. How could it pass any hygiene regulations?

However, you have to keep in mind that it is relatively expensive, but for your money you get a great ambience, very good service and an overall good experience. However, if you are looking for a party location or want to do a pub crawl through Tübingen, which many students do, it is not recommended. But as I said, a great atmosphere, friendly and very competent service as well as good food, just a bit expensive. My tip is especially the Swabian tapas.

What was great for us was that you can order digitally. It also went super fast.

We had the croque madame, the avocado toast with eggs with the quinoa avocadao salad, the toast, and the potato with eggs. i saw a strand of hair on the dish right when it was served and a bug in the salad.

I think the concept is great: smaller portions to share - Swabian tapas, so to speak. The prices are also acceptable and the waiting time is short. Unfortunately, the food itself wasn't entirely convincing. Some portions were at most lukewarm and didn't taste great either.

I love the concept of German tapas and wish more restaurants offered this! It’s a perfect way of trying various German dishes in smaller portions! We had the schupfnudeln with sauerkraut, maultaschen, schnitzel, green salad, potatoes, käsespätzle and mushrooms. It was a perfect amount for 4 people. I will definitely come again!

The food was very bad, Wurstteller (12€) was so terrible, that we didn’t even eat it!

The food was absolutely bad. “Wurstteller” had 4 salamis and that was it. The bread tasted like it was 5 days old. Soft drinks were simply brought in a glass, neither a can nor a bottle. It was also overpriced for what we got. 12€ for 4 salamis? Käsespetzle was okay but it's not difficult to cook pasta either. However, the portion was very small. There was also a food item on the cheese wedges that I didn't recognize (see photo). So in summary, they shouldn't go here.

The Bären in Tübingen, a Swabian tapas bar, impressed us with a successful evening. Since there were eight of us, we definitely had to reserve a table, which turned out to be a wise decision because the bar was well attended. The modern ordering process is particularly noteworthy: we could easily do our after-work via a QR code -Order drinks and tapas. The service was prompt and efficient - the orders came to our table quickly. The food itself was excellent. The Swabian tapas offered an interesting and tasty change from the typical tapas we usually know. We were particularly impressed by the quality of the ingredients and the loving preparation. The atmosphere in the Bären was calm and relaxed. Despite the full house, it never felt rushed or crowded. The interior is cozy and invites you to linger, which made the evening particularly pleasant. All in all, we can highly recommend the Bären in Tübingen - whether for a relaxed after-work evening or a social get-together with friends.

Everything very good, bad service when removing dirty dishes

Unfortunately super tight, tables are put together and are generally very close together. Food is, well, nothing special. Drinks are super expensive. Unfortunately, significantly worse than the bear in Stuttgart. Generally not recommended.
