I was so impressed that I ate with you two evenings in a row 😀 The dumplings and the zucchini fritters were especially popular with me 😋 Good portion sizes and a friendly, young, motivated team 👏

Very nice restaurant, like a gasthaus, small but with a young and informal atmosphere. Very good local food. The guys were really nice because it was our daughter's birthday and they put a fantastic "rocket/candle" on her cake.

It's questionable how this place can get 4.4 stars. The food was abysmal. I had the turkey schnitzel, which came with just a leaf of lettuce and a hint of potato salad (which tasted of nothing). The schnitzel, presumably because it was convenience food, tasted of nothing. So I ordered spaetzle as a side dish, which also comes without sauce. Ready-made spaetzle from a packet... Extremely dry and tasted of nothing. With the sauce, which also cost extra, it was somewhat bearable. Conclusion: about €20 for an incredibly bad turkey schnitzel with dry spaetzle from a packet. Never again and an absolute disgrace!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Gasthaus Bären. We were able to move our reservation from inside to outside.

Exceptional food, friendly staff, however, larger tables would have undoubtedly allowed us to enjoy the moment even more. I recommend it!

We had a very enjoyable dinner her. The carrot salad was good, the käsespätzle was also goo and the rindergulasch was very good. The meat was super tender and the sauce was yummy. I enjoyed a nice Hefe on the terrace; the weather was great. Three and a halve stars for the food, but I give four stars because of the nice outdoor seating and very affordable price.

Nine of us were there for lunch – actually the perfect setting for a nice tapas gathering. Instead: a table far too small for the large group, slow and inattentive service, and an atmosphere somewhere between ignorance and disinterest. For starters, we were served two charcuterie boards and one cheese board – unfortunately, only after we politely reminded them about the bread. It did arrive… but in an amount probably intended for a child under five. The portions? Tiny. The price? Maxi. The taste was as exciting as cardboard. We left after the starter – no questions asked, no interest, no comment from the staff. Seems to happen quite often. In conclusion: If you're happy to pay a lot, eat a little, and be ignored, this is the place for you. Fortunately, there are alternatives for everyone else.

Absolute scam Very long wait times and no service are offered here. You'll dry out before you even get a drink... The food has the exact same problem: it takes a very, very long time and is practically unseasoned. Portions are far too small for the price...

Rapidly declining. After a long time, I ate at Bären again – and experienced a complete change of concept. Instead of lovingly prepared mini tapas portions on colorfully mismatched Secobd Hand dishes, you now get uniform Portuguese porcelain with a chic look. The portions have become significantly larger, but unfortunately the recipes – and especially the quality – have declined considerably. The green salad consists only of a pile of iceberg lettuce leaves, the turkey in honey and mustard sauce turns out to be a carelessly presented fillet in a cheap curry cream sauce, the goulash meat was cut so unevenly that a large piece was still chewy, and the drinks tasted sweet or watery. The legendary Nutella bread has been replaced by random desserts like apple strudel. The menu is no longer supplemented with humorous remarks. You can now reserve tables – but the charm of the formerly crowded rooms, complete with the iconic queue and aperitif, is gone. Instead: empty tables waiting for their reserved guests. The clientele has also changed: instead of the student-hipster vibe, there's now a more sophisticated crowd. The food came incredibly quickly, but sometimes it was only lukewarm. The prices aren't (or aren't) justified in many cases. I've known the Bär since day one. It still says "Bear" on the outside, but there's no longer any "Bear" inside. To me, this looks like a change of ownership—complete with a new concept that I find neither charming nor reasonably priced.

Tasty and delicious local tapas. Friendly atmosphere, just like everywhere else in the city. On the other hand, the service is too compartmentalized. Two people for the run, one for the order, and one at the bar. As a result, you have to wait indefinitely for your order, even though the staff has nothing to do.

Mensaniveau trifft es genau: Spätzle, die offensichtlich zum Aufwärmen durchs Wasser gezogen worden waren (wässrig schmeckten sie denn auch), ein halbes Wienerle (mehr war's nicht) in dünne Scheibchen geschnitten auf den halbwegs genießbaren Linsen, und das Ganze in einer "Bowl" (wozu? um das Augenmerk auf vermeintlich "cooles" Aussehen zu lenken und von der überschaubaren Menge abzulenken?) serviert. Das Ganze glich alles in allem einer lieblosen Massenabfertigung, was die Küche betraf.

It's seriously baffling to me how this restaurant gets all these four-star reviews! I don't want to imply anything, but the suspicion of a fake review is very strong. I've rarely eaten so badly and so little well in recent times! I had a bowl with dumplings and mushroom sauce! The sauce was more like flour or thickener. There were exactly nine half mushrooms, completely tasteless and inedible! I put my bowl back after half an hour! The salad I ordered was sad, not well dressed, and the attempt at dressing was promptly taken away! Tasteless and bland! Never again to this restaurant! And all this for just under ten euros—no, that was simply too much for this quality!... On top of that, the owner of the restaurant was running back and forth in front of the building like an agitated rooster, trying to fill his restaurant even more. (That wasn't very attractive either!)!

Smaller portions, but in line with the price. A portion and a half will satisfy you. Delicious flavor. Very well-maintained. The service is attentive and friendly. As an improvement, the allergens on the menu might help.

So, all in all, the experience was quite okay. Four of us went out to eat on a Saturday evening with a reservation (let's ignore the fact that when we made the reservation online, it actually said there was no room outside, and we still got a table outside). The Swabian tapas concept is a really good idea and it's really successful, but now we come to the but. The prices for the tapas portions are quite steep in my opinion, but to each his own. The lentils with spaetzle were unfortunately rather meager; they lacked vinegar and salt. They were able to rectify this upon request, but oh well. The meat in the goulash was also rather tough. The fact that some dishes also come with a side dish, such as potato salad or mashed potatoes (we didn't know what kind of mashed potatoes it was, and not so great for allergy sufferers), could have been written on the menu, since, as mentioned, some of the side dishes were unfortunately unidentifiable. I think the mobile ordering system is really cool and well-executed, but unfortunately, with some waiters, you get the feeling they're completely relying on the system. We had to spend quite a while trying to get attention before paying... It's definitely worth the experience, and everyone has to form their own opinion. It wasn't for us, though :(

Unfortunately I can't say anything about the food, it didn't get that far. We wanted to sit outside and in the shade. All tables were occupied except for 2 higher tables with stools. They were suitable for 6 people, there were two of us and we sat there. If someone had sat down with us it wouldn't have bothered us. When the waitress came, we wanted to order. Instead of taking our order, the waitress asked us to move to another table (for 4 people) that had just become free "in case a larger group came". OK But instead of taking our order, she calmly arranged the tables and chairs at the two tables for 6 and didn't pay any attention to us. OK, you have to prioritize. We then went somewhere else.

We visited this restaurant with high expectations, given the number of positive reviews. Unfortunately, our experience was quite mediocre. We were seated on the opposite side of the street, where they hadn’t set up umbrellas, so we ended up sitting under the hot sun for almost 1.5 hours. It was an uncomfortable experience. The ordering system, which relies on a QR code, was convenient for placing food and beverage orders. However, when it comes to the food itself, we were disappointed. We ordered the Rindgulasch and Maultaschen. The meat in the Rindgulasch was tough and lacked tenderness, and the Maultaschen had a hard outer coating with a filling that didn’t have the right texture. On a positive note, the staff was friendly and polite, which was the only highlight of our visit.

On business travel from US, our supplier colleague recommended we try Gasthaus Bären. A brief 10-15 minute walk from our Hotel. Wr arrived just after 7:30pm, and it was one of the only restaurants still open in the town center. You could smell the food from the outside. We walked in, and they were packed. They accept reservations, but we didn't think we would need one for a Wednesday evening, but they had 2 options available, a tabletop by the kitchen or the corner of the bar. We opted for the bar. The sitting area was a little tight, but comfortable. The tables around us were seated with guests the entire time. We ordered a variety of dishes to sample between the 3 of us. We had the sausage platter, breaded oyster mushrooms, sauerkraut, rosemary potatoes, tomato meatballs, and a bread basket. We tried a variety of Fischers beers and specialty cocktails over the course of 2 hours. Fair price for the tapas and drinks. The lighting and music were great. We were able to have a conversation and enjoy our evening away from work. We were looking to sample some authentic Swabian food, and this place far exceeded our expectations. Definitely add this to your Itinerary if you're in the area, but make a reservation or be prepared to wait. Multiple options available for ordering through QR code or with service staff. The service was amazing! We asked the locals about the area, they were knowledgeable. Everyone was kind and helpful to explain the German dishes that we didn't recognize and didn't translate well. I will definitely be back on my next trip to Germany!

I know the restaurant from Stuttgart, where I've always enjoyed my last meals. Unfortunately, the quality at this restaurant in Tübingen was truly disappointing. Many of the "small plates" we ordered were only lukewarm or almost cold (not a single one was truly warm), and the overall taste was hardly a masterpiece either. Two of our dishes had a hair in them. The table reserved for five people was much too small. Especially with this model, where the goal is to order multiple dishes, you need a bit more space. But even in a bar, a table like that would probably seat three to four people at most. Personally, I don't like the high tables with backless bar stools either—but you might disagree. The whole thing seems to have been thought through. Unfortunately, the criticism was addressed in a friendly manner, but there was no attempt at improvement or compensation, which is quite common in such cases. Overall, a very disappointing experience for me.

Four of us went to Bären Tübingen, having already known the restaurant from Stuttgart, which is unfortunately always very loud. Unfortunately, the Tübingen location perfectly combines all the disadvantages of a restaurant. The restaurant was not only loud (especially due to the music at the beginning, and later due to other guests), but the food was also really bad. We had a total of 10 different dishes. Most of the dishes were cold, low in salt, or tasteless. Dumplings: We don't understand why there was paprika in this dish. Chicken in honey mustard sauce: (We only used honey, much too sweet) Fried oyster mushrooms: Surprisingly good, unfortunately with a 30cm layer of black hair. Cheese spaetzle: Very cold, the second portion was also very runny. Schupfnudelen: Rubbery, but warm. Goulash: Tough, the potatoes were cold from the refrigerator. Lentils: Dry, cold, and overall very low in salt and tasteless. Schnitzel: Was okay, rather dry. The potato salad was definitely not a good one from a packet. Meatballs: were okay, at least warm. The table was a disgrace for the five people we ordered; a maximum of two could have eaten at it. Luckily, we were able to move to the neighboring table. The high tables are generally not conducive to eating or lingering. Apple spritzer is only available as a 0.3 liter bottle, and then only as a 0.5 liter bottle, which is also inconvenient. The service was rather slow; if we had wanted to reorder, it wouldn't have been possible. Our criticism at the end of the restaurant was simply dismissed, as if we heard it every day. I can't understand the good reviews. The toilets are worse than any rest stop toilet. I've never experienced a smell like that, and the graffiti and stickers could definitely be removed. The towel dryer is broken. They could have at least provided towels. It's a real shame, because the concept is very nice.

There are tables in the corridor to the toilet and it smells like an unclean toilet. Men's toilet smeared and stickered. I won't be entering this restaurant again. My companions also had this impression. We were there for dinner on March 14, 2025 in the evening.

In general the food was okay, but it has not so much to do with real schwäbischen food. What was really missing from the restaurant is a potato salad.

The food was delicious, but unfortunately our experience was marred by the poor service and unfriendly staff. Despite reservations, we were seated at a table that was far too small for 5 people. When we asked if we could move to a larger table, we were told no. The table was maybe okay for 2 people. The food didn't even fit on the table and we sometimes ate while standing up to use the chairs as a place to put tapas. I will not visit this restaurant again.

Unfortunately, the food wasn't good at all - some of it was oversalted, the sauces tasted strongly of convenience. The atmosphere was a strange mix of old and modern, with pop radio music from the 90s. Toilet was carelessly furnished and smelled really bad. Tables and chairs were uncomfortable, too close together and wobbled. The prices would be ok if the rest had been right. Service was nice and attentive!

I can 100% recommend the restaurant, definitely worth a detour to Tübingen!

The goulash is a dream: tender, spicy and with a sauce that is perfectly seasoned. The Maultaschen tapas impress with their fine dough and a hearty filling. The salads are fresh and creative, but the quinoa salad particularly stands out - a harmonious combination of lightness and taste. And the mushrooms? Simply delicious, perfectly cooked and full of flavor! In addition, there is attentive and friendly service, which makes the visit a real experience. An unbeatable price-performance ratio completes the whole thing. A must for anyone who wants to enjoy Swabian cuisine in modern tapas form - absolutely recommended!

We went here on a Monday evening and were surprised that it was so busy. We were lucky that we got a table in the bar area - the chairs there are made for very (!) narrow people ;-) The dumplings with mushroom ragout and the Maultaschen are highly recommended, pleasant music volume, nice staff. Card payment is possible. Everything is great!

We went there last week in a group of seven people for a birthday on a recommendation. The ambience is rustic and beautiful. Unfortunately, the food was either not seasoned at all or was too salty. We wanted to know whether there was bread with the sausage salad, which was answered in the negative. However, we were told that we could order an extra bread basket, which we did. The bread basket came first, and a while later the waitress informed us that there would be no sausage salad. We asked that the bread basket be canceled again. She told us that wasn't possible because we had ordered it and otherwise they would have to throw it away. After discussion, she took the bread basket back with her. Unfortunately, not once during the meal did a waitress come to take further orders or inquire. There was also no question when paying, and when I was told that the food wasn't that good, all I got was an "Okay, thank you". Unfortunately, for the price, the service and the taste of the food, it was really bad.

If we had come without visitors, I wouldn't have sat there. Profit maximization to the max! What should be mentioned positively is the friendliness of all the employees we came into contact with.

I remember the Bären as a nice, rustic restaurant with delicious tapas. Today we were very disappointed. We had to wait a long time - for a table, for the order. When asked about gluten-free, the service staff was overwhelmed, the allergen list was not up to date and did not match the menu. For prices I think you should be able to expect more.

I used to always like going to Bären, but the price-performance ratio is absolutely no longer right. The food didn't taste fresh and was totally over salted. In general, I was no longer impressed with the taste. When I billed I was then charged 5 euros too much. That was my last visit there.

More of a bar with tapas than a restaurant, which we didn't realize beforehand. Despite the other expectations, one can say objectively and fairly: the concept of the food and selection is trendy and quite appealing, the quality, even considering the price, is not at all convincing. Service: nice people but disorganized. We had a reservation for 5 p.m. After we rejected the tiny table right in front of the toilets, which would hardly have fit plates for two people, after a short wait they found another small table for us. 45 minutes later we finally had drinks in our hands. All in all, unfortunately a very disappointing visit.

It was our first visit here, sadly I regret coming here to spend my money. Positive: The waiters were nice, food came quickly. The Spätzle and Schnitzel were good. Negative: Unfortunately they have terrible chairs super uncomfortable, hard not to fall off. Also I wouldn’t recommend ordering the dumplings (Knödel) they were super salty I couldn’t finish them and I told the waitress and she didn’t offer me something else to eat or anything :( The portions are also very small. The 'salad' was a few mini scraps of iceberg lettuce and a few cocktail tomatos. Regarding service: absolute minimal contact with personel. You have to order online and someone brings it. That's it. There was an option to add a tip when paying. For what, I wonder. Could have been so much better.

Time slots for reservations are relatively short and we were first informed that we had to leave in ten minutes even though they still took our food order. No allergens on the menu. The city of Tübingen's official document on barrier-free restaurants states that the Bären is completely barrier-free, which is not true. There are several steps and even if they weren't there, there isn't enough space between the tables for a wheelchair to get through.

Went to BÄREN for a spontaneous little dinner. The shop was very busy, with lots of students and guests who enjoyed drinking. The service was great. Fast, even when reordering. The food came very quickly, as did the wine. First of all: "Swabian tapas" are advertised here, I found the portions to be significantly larger. My cheese spaetzle was very filling. However, the taste was more like 3/5...cheese was weak...everything was so bland. The rocket tomato feta salad is quite nice. Of the wine, I liked the rosé house wine. What you get for your money is ridiculous. A sausage plate that only sells cut sausage from the supermarket for 1€ for 13 euros is a disgrace. If you then complain about it, you will be told “yes, that’s just the way it is”. I will never eat there again.

We have been to the Bären several times a week since it opened, i.e. for about 10 years. And it has to be said that the recent changes have brought about a major deterioration. The food is dry (hardly any sauce for the meatballs, turkey, cheese spaetzle) and has become much more expensive. Pay twice as much for the same quantity and worse quality. If this is the new concept, good luck with it 😉… Incomprehensible and disappointing.

Very quaint shop, with unusual cocktails and very tasty tapas-sized dishes. Only the tables are very small, so you should order the dishes one after the other (if you order several tapas) rather than at the same time. But the preparation is super quick.

Very tasty food, friendly staff, but the space is quite restrictive.

What can I say - I walked in and out the door with mixed feelings. The food was very good and didn't take too long to arrive. The waitresses were very quick and extremely friendly. The ambience also invites you to linger. However, there are two main points that really bother me: -It's very, very loud. We were sitting around the corner at the high tables behind the room and the music was still coming at us at such a volume that we had to speak to each other in a very loud tone. Unfortunately, the acoustics themselves do not allow for a quiet atmosphere. -Paying over €5 for a 0.3L soft drink is almost a bit ridiculous, just like the cheese spaetzle and other dishes that cost around €10 per serving. The two of us paid €60. We were full, but I think that for almost €10 per portion, at least a large portion could have been served. Of course I don't know where the ingredients for the dishes come from, but if everything was organic and regional, the price would be justified. If that doesn't bother you, there's absolutely nothing wrong here. :)
