Forsthaus Thiemsburg in Schönstedt

The Forsthaus Thiemsburg is located in the middle of the Hainich National Park in the immediate vicinity of the treetop path. We went there for Easter brunch on Easter Sunday. We had reserved a table for 13 people. The room where we sat was full. The decoration of the room was okay, the food was set up as a buffet in a side room. The selection of dishes was manageable, but in my opinion there could have been a little more. In terms of taste, it was okay with room for improvement, unfortunately I can't say anything about the price, we were invited.

We had lunch here. The dishes are only recommended. Dishes are brought to the tables using robots.

Very nicely located hotel in the former forester's lodge right on the treetop path. I would say the playground is great for kids up to 10 years old. The location is ideal for taking hikes on the countless hiking trails through the Hainich. The beer garden is great, very cozy, lots of space, not overcrowded, even if there is always something going on and the service is very friendly and familiar. We would love to come back and will probably see each other again next fall😉👍. So great!

Unfortunately the restaurant was disappointing. Quite expensive (10€ apple strudel) and the cake tasted cheap and thawed (a long time ago). The coffee didn't work at all either, it tasted like instant coffee. Plates and spoons were dirty. The only bright spot was the friendly serving robot.

Located directly in the Hainichen National Park, it is of course a dream for anyone looking for peace and exercise in nature. The food is good, the staff is friendly and you feel welcome. The rooms and facilities are modernized and good. For children there is a really good and large adventure playground right next to the forester's lodge and the treetop path is without a doubt a must-visit. A relaxing experience and particularly interesting for short vacations or as a day trip destination.

Hotel with attached beer garden. There's a lot of activity on the treetop path at the weekend. Doesn't bother you if you're traveling yourself. Things get quiet in the evening after 6 p.m.

Very nice facility, very nice staff and good food

A trip to the treetop path is always worth seeing. You are in the middle of nature and if you open your eyes you will find adventure. Well, your physical well-being is deliciously taken care of. It's best to stop by yourself, because the great playground next door is a surprise for young and old.

Unfortunately we were deceived by the external impression, the quality of the food absolutely does not match the price! My vegetables were still half frozen... a shame... there's still a lot of room for improvement.

THE perfect place for a wedding celebration! We say thank you!! My wife and I chose the Forsthaus Thiemsburg because we had the feeling from the first moment that we were working with professionals. Regardless of whether it was when reserving an appointment, visiting the locations, decorating options or making the final arrangements for the evening meals, they always tried to accommodate our wishes and if something didn't work, professional alternatives were offered. We and many other guests arrived the day before and we got a small foretaste of the capabilities of the Thiemsburg team: great service, very nice hotel rooms and very tasty food. We were excited for the next day. This started with a very nice breakfast buffet, which left nothing to be desired. The rooms offered very comfortable beds, nice facilities and very nice bathrooms with very functional equipment so that men and women could get ready. The existing old sawmill was prepared as a venue for the celebrations and we were very excited to see what awaited us. After the champagne reception, the area was opened to us and we were speechless...it was beautifully decorated. The cake and the evening buffet were very nicely presented. The evening buffet was a culinary delight. Not only was it super tasty, it was also very, very beautifully prepared, because the eye eats too. Thanks to the high-quality products and the sophisticated cooking, the dinner was fantastic and all the guests were more than full and raved about the culinary delicacies. In short, the boss and her team, with their professional performance in preparation, service, kitchen and follow-up, made our celebration an unforgettable day. Thank you very much for that!!

Was there on Sunday with my son. Service was friendly, the food was delicious, BUT: €20.90 for a simple Wiener-style schnitzel is undoubtedly expensive. Then it should at least be an appropriate size. This portion was a JOKE!!!! The schnitzel was almost 3 mm thick, total weight max. 130 g!!!!! That's a disgrace!! In the last restaurant we were in, the children's schnitzel was bigger... - for €6.90!!!!

Restaurant: Nice, friendly service. Unfortunately, the prices are completely exorbitant and do not match the quality at all.

Good food and a nice atmosphere

A very good place to get to know Hainich and the surrounding area. Located right on the treetop path, it couldn't be better. The hotel is very good for its 3 stars, small but sufficient bathroom and clean. The restaurant also impresses with tasty cuisine, good breakfast and friendly, quick and attentive service, which is unfortunately rarely experienced these days. The beer garden with snacks is also recommended. Okay, the prices, but whatever, that's just the way it is now.

We were served in a friendly, quick and extremely competent manner. Great service.

The room will only be cleaned upon request. The neighboring restaurant closes at 6:30 p.m. (!!) and it wasn't possible to get a sandwich with cheese or ham shortly before closing time. Instead, a bottle of Köstritzer 0.33l for €4.20, a bit heavy. But the location is very beautiful, there is peace and relaxation for visitors once the treetops are gone.

Please give the snack bar a wide berth, it's only for your benefit! We stood in line for about 20 minutes (it wasn't overly crowded that day) and watched the not particularly fast gentleman in the kitchen stroll around within a 5 meter radius. When we almost fell asleep from watching, the time had finally come and thank God we were able to get rid of our €3.50 per bratwurst. If only we had known beforehand what to expect... We got a very pale, pre-cooked bratwurst from the gas grill (how else would you grill a bratwurst in Thuringia?!) After one bite it was clear that this wasn't exactly going to be a culinary highlight. The children were also mercilessly honest and after 3 bites (they were very hungry from hiking, otherwise it would have only been one) they said that it tasted disgusting, threw the sausage away and only ate the roll. I'm sorry to say it so harshly, but the bratwurst was the worst I've ever eaten. The crowning glory of the whole story is that the following slogan is used on site: Forsthaus Thiemsburg www.beste-bratwurst.de You can hardly think of a worse joke.

Restaurant visit: Excellent, attentive and friendly service The dishes were appetizingly prepared and very tasty. The staff responded very attentively to the children's questions and fulfilled their wishes 100%.

I can't say much about the inn itself, we just went to the playground and ate ice cream there. The playground is really great, well maintained, nice and big and has lots of different play options. There is a lot to climb, slide and immerse yourself in the fairy and troll world 😊 There is always seating for parents at the edge. The small snack bar has some comfortable seating at the edge and many large benches in the middle.

Had a celebration there today. Very friendly, they made sure that everyone had their food at pretty much the same time. Food was very tasty, prices are acceptable. The service from the waiters was good to very good. I can only recommend it. It wasn't our first celebration there and certainly not our last.

The location in the middle of Hainich is more than idyllic. In terms of price, food is more expensive, but drinks are priced ok. The quality of the food could be better. The advantage is that in some games you can choose the additions yourself.

It is definitely no longer the best bratwurst! They're not the best fries either! They are not the best prices at all! We had an extreme feeling of maximizing profits!!! The beer garden is nice, the staff is very friendly and service-oriented. I don't know yet if we'll come back...

Very nice restaurant with delicious and varied food. The staff is friendly but also overwhelmed. The serving of the dishes takes a long time if you have pre-ordered. Only at the driver's insistence does it go faster. Otherwise it is very good. The food is very good. There are large and tasty portions. The ambience is good. In the Forsthaus Thiemsburg you can fortify yourself with lunch in the “Forsthaus Thiemsburg” located directly on the treetop path. The latest technology is used here, but see for yourself.

Restaurant was empty...and for a reason, I guess. Served by a robot🤔why? I wonder. The"life" service was not much better.

Truffle search picture! At the end of a beautiful hike in the Hainich Buchenwald, we went to the Thiemsburg restaurant for dinner. The first page of the menu was characterized by praise of “real Thuringian truffles from the region’s beech and oak forests” with various dishes. We were very interested and ordered the truffle dish with grilled salmon on rocket salad with parmesan. Regarding the side dish (spaghetti or sweet potatoes), we chose the latter. After the dish was served, we wondered where the fresh, real Thuringian truffles were. There was nothing to see or taste! After our complaint, the friendly waiter rushed to the kitchen to ask and came back with the information: “The fish was fried in truffle oil and there is truffle in the rocket salad!” I am posting the photo of the dish as a “search image” with the challenge to anyone interested to discover the “real Thuringian truffles”! In any case, we didn't succeed and we felt duped. Cost for this special offer: A proud €34.90!

Very friendly service and nice atmosphere, but the food is catastrophic. Although we were given nicely prepared plates, the food was only lukewarm, poorly seasoned and was more reminiscent of convenience food than home-cooked food.

Very, very good food, relaxing location.

The location is a sure-fire success thanks to the national park and its attractions! That's exactly how it works here: you don't have to do anything, 90% of the guests won't come back anyway! Nevertheless, if you have guests with a walker, you shouldn't watch stupidly as they struggle up the stairs with their walking aid, but at least ask if you can help. But if you barely speak the local language... The local food was okay but not an eye-opener either. Additionally, the cook didn't leave the dumplings in the microwave long enough. The main waitress was very nice, but also watched me carry the walker up and down as I left the restaurant.

Rating of the restaurant: The restaurant is definitely not recommended because the price-performance ratio is not at all good. We waited about an hour for our food. However, the portions on the plates were quite manageable. Overall, the food is very expensive (from €22 to €25 and more per meal). Changes to the menu, e.g. Sweet potatoes, instead of fries, were charged extra (€2.90).

We were in the national park for the first time today and wanted to eat something - when we saw the prices we were skeptical at first, but gave it a chance. It's a shame, we were very disappointed. The price-performance ratio wasn't fair at all - half-empty plates and then you weren't even full. I eat even cheaper in a 5-star kitchen and get full! My toddler had potatoes upon request - we got 5-6 small potatoes and were charged €5 for them. So I buy two bags full of potatoes from Rewe. No wonder the others were eating at the snack bar across the street. Really disappointing.

Price-performance is not right. Plates were half empty and the portions were pretty manageable overall. Asparagus was raw and was returned (still charged over €8 for it). No small salad with the schnitzel (only schnitzel and fries) for over €23. Unfortunately, the service was also pretty bad and you didn't feel valued as a guest. Restaurant not recommended.

We came here hungry during a bike tour and treated ourselves to an expensive, partially delicious meal. The salad still had the firm, long stems, some old yellow leaves...everything was floating in the frying oil that was poured over it... It was still pretty empty at 12 p.m. Nevertheless, we waited a good hour for our food. This only came after we asked twice and considered eating a bratwurst at the snack bar instead.

Food, staff, environment everything is great. It is an absolute absurdity that there will be no cell phone reception in such a touristy area in 2024!! In and around the forester's lodge you could at least offer open guest Wi-Fi. If that works, you get the last star.

The service and efforts of the staff are great, but the implementation is only limited. The food in the restaurant is only partially tasty. The prices are strongly adjusted to the location, but not to the quality.

Food was overpriced, little food on the plate. 85€ for three people who didn't get enough. 22€ for baked potatoes and quark, with greens. The food was also as good as cold. There was also a long waiting time. Rip-off in my eyes

We were tempted by www.beste-bratwurst.de and after a strenuous hike we stopped at the snack bar's beer garden. Unfortunately the sausage was anything but tasty. Cooked in the deep fryer and parked on the lukewarm grill for some color, probably long ago. I've never eaten anything so bad. Dead sausage... what a shame

We had a wonderful weekend in the forester's house. Rooms were very clean and tastefully decorated. Food in the restaurant tasted great and small requests for changes were implemented without any problems. Breakfast was very loving and there was something for every taste. The entire team was very friendly and always looked after the guests. Beautiful hikes around the forester's lodge are possible, and a visit to the treetop path is highly recommended.

We were there for lunch today. The staff was friendly and helpful, but the language barrier was still sometimes problematic. Unfortunately the price/performance ratio for the food wasn't right. The fried potatoes were mostly burnt black, the wild garlic cream soup was too salty and over 20 euros for a schnitzel with 15 fries. A pity...

We had dinner there on Easter Monday with 5 people, the reservation went well, the team on site was stressed, but nice and tried hard. Unfortunately, the entire meal was only lukewarm, including the fried potatoes, which were pre-fried black and then warmed again, totally mushy. Price performance ratio does not justify this quality. The price-performance ratio is not right here at all. The quality of the food doesn't match the prices. In addition, the seasoned meat was totally over salted. The schnitzel was also very salty but still ok. The complaint was also not dealt with in accordance with the price level. My husband was looked at because he ate it despite having too much salt (he feels bad now...). Just because not everyone complains doesn't mean the food is ok and I can't believe that no one has ever said anything because there are other reviews here that mention it. I then had to pay for the inedible seasoned meat. Yes, there was a discount of about 30% on the dish, but that wasn't reasonable either. When I see my husband now, I'm very glad I didn't eat any more of it.

Very good New Year's brunch at fair prices and top quality. We felt very comfortable.

The service was friendly and accommodating, but could not compensate for the lack of quality of the food. We had four different dishes, none of which tasted like anything. Ready-made vegetables were simply made warm, the hollandaise came from a tetra pack, which is simply not possible for the prices. I had cauliflower medallions which were just fried tasteless mash. We cannot recommend the Forsthaus and were definitely there for the first and last time.

Wie im Märchen liegt die Thiemsburg im Schnee, sehr schön im Lichterzauber der Weihnachtszeit, wir waren vom Anblick schon sehr begeistert. Das Essen war hervorragend, es gibt hier gar nichts zu bemängeln, vom freundlichen Empfang der Geschäftsführerin, über das Essen, die Zimmer, alles war super. Sehr schön war der Abend auf der Thiemsburg, eine Travestieshow, sehr lustig, das könnte ruhig öfter stattfinden. Ein Rund- um gelungenes Wochenende, sehr gerne wieder.

Saubere,moderne Zimmer,im Restaurant freundliche Bedienung,Essen war lecker ,der Frühstückstisch war reichhaltig und sehr einladend gedeckt.Es war ein sehr angenehmer Aufenthalt, noch dazu bei wunderschönem Winterwetter.

Schön eingerichte Gaststätte mit sehr freundlicher Bedienung, aber das Essen lässt zu wünschen übrig. Thüringer Rostbätel war zäh und bestimmt schon zweimal aufgewärmt, ebenfalls die Bratkartoffeln aufgewärmt und zum Teil angebrannt, kein Salat dazu und das ganze für 16€ . Muss ich kein zweites mal haben!

Waren heute mit meiner Schwägerin und Nichte dort wandern und sind zum Mittag dort eingekehrt. Super nettes Team, sehr freundliche und aufmerksame Bedienung. Das Essen war super lecker. Daumen hoch und danke wir kommen sehr gerne wieder.

Fertigessen und dazu noch sehr salzig - selbst das Kinderessen. Service war sehr freundlich und es gab Mal Sachen für die Kids.

Ein riesiges großes Lob an das ganze Team, die meinen Sohn einen schönen Tag ermöglicht haben. Wir feierten die Schuleinführung, in der Scheune. Bin immer noch sprachlos, wenn ich dran denke.

Sehr freundliches Personal, wir haben einen Eisbecher gegessen der sein Geld wert ist. Ist sehr zu empfehlen und werde auch in Zukunft hier speisen 😊

Wir waren heute nach dem Baumwipfelpfad beim Mittagessen. Das Essen war sehr lecker, vor allem das Würzfleisch. Bei den Thüringer Klößen müsst ihr aber nachbessern, die waren wie gekaufte. Einziges Manko. Für den Preis waren die Teller und die Speise beim servieren nicht richtig warm. Bei dem heißen Wetter aber verzeihbar. Weiter so. Wir kommen gerne ein andermal wieder mit der Familie.

Wir waren zu einer Einschulung eingeladen und sind aus Hessen angereist. Die Location war eine Scheune. Das Ambiente war der Hammer. Liebevoll dekoriert und angerichtet. Das Essen vom äußerst üppigen Buffet war spitzenmässig und definitiv was fürs Auge. Zu den Übernachtungen können wir nichts sagen, da wir am Abend wieder abgereist sind.

Wir haben unserer Hochzeit hier gefeiert und komplett durchgeplant. Wir sind einfach nur begeistert gewesen. Personal einfach spitze. Essen war alles sehr lecker und die Unterkunft war komplett für unsere Hochzeitsgesellschaft geblockt. Zimmer sind neu renoviert gewesen. Wir können es nur wärmsten weiter empfehlen. Immer wieder gerne 😊 kommen jederzeit wieder

Für einen Ausflug ist die Thiemsburg mit dem schönen Spielplatz und dem Baumkronenpfad sehr schön. Das Restaurant kann ich allerdings leider nicht empfehlen. Würzfleisch, das aussah und schmeckte wie übriggebliebene Gulaschsuppe. Schnitzel war auch nicht besonders gut. Sehr schade. Die Bedienung war wirklich sehr freundlich und flink.

Wir waren dort zum Mittagessen. Sehr gute thüringer Küche. Highlight ist der Servierroboter.

Also Bedienung war super, aufmerksam und bemüht. Allerdings war das Essen für den Preis nicht gut. Fertigklöße statt die versprochenen „Original Thüringer Klöße“. Fertigrotkraut. Nudeln mit Tomatensoße war schlimmer als von der Großküche. Die Location ist super und hat echt Potenzial, aber der Koch/Köchin müsste einiges überarbeiten.

Ich kann nur das Restaurant bewerten. Wir wurden freundlich empfangen und wir durften uns einen Platz aussuchen. Die Getränke kamen schnell und auch das Essen ließ nicht lange auf sich warten. Die junge Dame, die uns das Essen brachte, wirkte noch etwas unbeholfen, befand sich wohl noch in der Ausbildung. Das Essen war schmackhaft, reichlich und schön angerichtet. Pro Person haben wir inkl. Getränke 20 Euro bezahlt.

Restaurantbesuch. Das Essen war lecker und ausreichend. Wir hatten den Grillkäse mit Ofenkartoffel, ein Schnitzel Wiener Art mit gebackenem Kloß und Spargel mit Schnitzel. Sonderwünsche bei der Speisenzusammenstellung waren kein Problem. Der Service war sehr freundlich. Die Wartezeit war nicht zu lang, aber angesichts der wenigen Gäste hätte es etwas schneller gehen können. Jedoch kein Grund zur Aufregung. Zum Nachtisch gab es Schokotörtchen (siehe Bild). Preis-Leistungsverhältnis nicht ungewöhnlich für einen Touristenmagnet wie den Baumkronenpfad.

Das Essen ist unterirdisch schlecht. Von verbrannten Bratkartoffeln über versalzene Saucen und mickrigen Portionen sowie wässrigem Espresso ist alles geboten. Ach ja, die Preise sind entsprechend überzogen. Das Restaurant lebt nur davon, dass es am Eingang vom Baumwipfelpfad ist. Empfehlung: Restaurant meiden und Proviant mitnehmen.

Ich feierte mit ca. 30 Personen meinen Geburtstag. Das Buffet war einzigartig in Vielfalt und Geschmack. Das gesamte Team betreute meine Gäste und mich sehr aufmerksam, geduldig und überaus freundlich.

Nach einem Rundgang auf dem Baumkronenpfad wurde die notwendige Stärkung der körperlichen Leistungsfähigkeit in der Form eines leckeren Essens schnell und freundlich serviert.

Wir haben im Juli 2021 dort gegessen und mussten auf einen Platz auf der Terrasse warten. Die freundliche, aber etwas unkoordinierte Bedienung hat für uns den Tisch gereinigt und desinfiziert. Soweit so gut. Die Karte war ansprechend, allerdings stellte sich jeder der drei verschiedenen Gerichte als tiefgekühlt frittiert heraus. Bis hin zum Gemüse aus der Tiefkühltüte. Das kann manche Kantine besser. Vielleicht auch die Küche hier, aber zumindest haben wir keinen Eindruck davon bekommen. Toiletten sauber und in ausreichender Anzahl. Wir wollen den Baumkronenpfad wieder besuchen. Dann reicht uns aber ein Imbiss gegenüber.

Heute sind wir auf unserer Wanderung durch den Hainich hier vorbeigekommen. Aufgrund der Lage macht das Lokal ein wenig den Eindruck einer Touristenfalle. Das Haus macht optisch einen tollen Eindruck, aber aufgrund der großen Besuchermenge ist hier Massenabfertigung angesagt. Das Essen war soweit ok, aber auch nix besonderes. Die Portionen waren im Vergleich zu anderen Restaurants eher klein, aber für uns soweit ausreichend.

Nach einem tollen Tag im Baumkronenpfad und deren Erlebniswelten trafen wir auf freundliches und schnelles Personal. Leider sind die zu Restaurantpreisen angebotenen Speisen nicht in einem entsprechenden Niveau. Ein trocken gebratenes Rostbrätel mit fettigen Bratkartoffeln, serviert auf einem Plastikteller werde ich nicht nochmal essen. Pommes und Chicken-Nuggets waren ok für die Kinder aber eben auch eher Imbiss oder Kantinenniveau. Einen Salat welcher knackig und frisch ist, konnten wir auch nicht finden. Auffällig für solche Art von Gasstätten, ist die ungezügelte Dekoration mit Balsamico aller Tellerränder und Lücken...

Das Restaurant schließt um 16 Uhr, trotzdem haben wir 15.40 Uhr noch anstandslos Kaffee und Kuchen bekommen mit dem Hinweis, dass wir in Ruhe verweilen können. Prima Service, Dankeschön!!!

Das Forsthaus Thiemsburg hat einen großen außen- und Innenbereich. Durch den angrenzenden Waldwipfelpfad sicher auch von nöten. Der Service war sehr aufmerksam und schnell. Die Auswahl der Kuchen war gut. Wir würden es wieder besuchen.

Hier ist es sehr angenehm und schmeckt auch sehr gut. Wir wurden sehr schnell bedient. Freundliche Bedienung, gerne wieder. Gut für Familien geeignet.

Für eine gut organisierte Hochzeitsfeier bot die Thiemsburg beste Möglichkeiten und die Küche ein reichhaltiges Angebot. Das Wetter war auch super und ein Besuch des Baumkronenpfades war inklusive.

Leider muss ich alle negativen Bewertungen bestätigen. Das Essen war gelinde gesagt sehr unterdurchschnittlich. Der "Flammkuche" hatte die Größe eines Handtellers, die Spaghetti für unseren Sohn waren mit Tomatenmark PUR aufgewärmt (komplett ohne Gewürze, selbst Salz fehlte vollständig und die Nudeln waren annähernd zu Brei verkocht), der Service strahlte eine Ahnungslosigkeit sondergleichen aus, die Toiletten waren verdreckt und hatten weder Toilettenpapier noch Papierhandtücher... Warum gibt es so ein "Restaurant" an so einem schönen Ort????

Nach Besuch des Baumwipfelpfades haben wir hier eine Kleinigkeit zum Essen gesucht und gefunden. Die Karte hat diverse nette Angebot, kreative Flammkuchen etc. Das Essen war sehr gut und preiswert.
