El Sombrero Verde in Kiel

A really great place for delicious vegetarian/vegan Mexican food! We were able to drop in spontaneously this Friday evening without a reservation. The very friendly and attentive staff served us incredibly well, and we felt very comfortable, even though the place was quite empty. The vegetarian burritos were absolutely delicious, and the cocktails later were just as good. We highly recommend it! ☺️

Today I had ENCHILADAS POBLANAS filled with sunflower seed mince, spring onions, and mango ceviche, garnished with mole poblano and cheese. A very tasty combination and perfectly seasoned dish. There's a great selection of vegetarian options. The service was very friendly and competent. Excellent value for money.

Great vegan/vegetarian restaurant in Kiel. Always worth a visit.

All in all, we had a very pleasant evening here. The wait wasn't long, the atmosphere was pleasant, but there were a few minor issues with the service. The espresso beans were all gone, and I was assured that there was hardly any coriander flavor in the sauce, but it was very present. Despite everything, we felt comfortable, and the price is absolutely reasonable. I highly recommend the Tannenwald lemonade!

Celiac disease isn't a problem here. Despite the small kitchen, gluten-free food is available. The staff is knowledgeable, and many dishes are gluten-free. The food was very good, and the value for money was absolutely top-notch. The staff is very friendly, and dogs are welcome. The restrooms were also very clean! There are definitely nicer restaurants, both indoors and outdoors. But that wasn't important to us.

We were very glad that we chose to eat Mexican for this evening, and so will you!

Very tasty food, very friendly staff

A good burrito with friendly service in a simple setting. Prices seem to have gone up a bit, now starting at €17. However, we were very satisfied with the taste and quality. All the dishes are vegetarian or vegan. They came with two chili sauces, the green one with a bit of a kick.

Finally, a restaurant where you're full and satisfied after eating. The dishes are completely meat-free and freshly and attractively prepared. The only thing that could be improved is the ambiance; the location still feels more like a pub than a Mexican restaurant. Appropriate furnishings and decor could work wonders. Good luck!

Excellent, pleasantly spiced vegetarian food. Highly recommended!

We were at El Sombrero Verde with seven people for a bachelorette party and had a very fun evening. This was largely due to small "mishaps" on the part of the restaurant: Among other things, two of us received completely different dishes than they had ordered. Others were missing one or two ingredients. Since none of us had cutlery yet, we couldn't even start eating. 😅 We brought this to the attention of the El Sombrero Verde team and—after several attempts—we finally all got the food we wanted. 😉 The staff remained extremely friendly and charming, even offering us compensation, which we gladly accepted. 🍹 When a cocktail was also forgotten in our order, we received the corresponding drink in an "oversized" size as an added bonus. The crash of the cash register system during the payment process was the crowning conclusion to a cheerful restaurant experience. The incidents in no way diminished the experience; in fact, they enhanced it. The friendly way the staff dealt with our "complaints" or comments will remain a fond memory for all of us. They also beautifully set our table in advance with a bouquet of flowers we had brought along and other small bachelorette party decorations. The evening also impressed us with its delicious food. Therefore, it certainly won't be the last time we visit El Sombrero Verde. 😊

The food here was VERY delicious! The man who served us was very friendly and humorous, and apparently he wasn't exactly a stranger either. Yeah, I can't really say much else. I highly recommend this place! Edit: I was back after two days, got the burritos and the Mexican-style hot chocolate... What can I say? IT WAS ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS AGAIN!! Go to this restaurant if you're in Kiel!

A great, centrally located Mexican restaurant with a fairly straightforward but very flexible menu. Service is very relaxed, prompt, and friendly. Most of the dishes are vegetarian, which we really liked. The food arrived in a reasonable time, was freshly prepared, and very tasty. The flatbreads are generously filled and very pleasantly seasoned. Excellent value for money. We'll definitely be back!

Simply top-notch! We spent our vacation a good 30km from Kiel and, as a vegetarian, had trouble finding food in our resort *laughs* The food and service at Verde were so good that we immediately reserved a table for the next day :) And the best part... Our Labrador mix was also welcome and immediately received a bowl of water! Top!

Small restaurant with exclusively vegetarian/vegan dishes. Great non-alcoholic drinks, large portions and very friendly and attentive service. It can get a little louder inside when it's full, but that's not a problem. Gladly again.

Centrally located, vegetarian “Mexican”. This unusual combination cannot be fully compensated for. The expected heartiness is not achieved by the meat substitutes or the seasoning. The rustic hosts make a noticeable effort. The audience consists largely of regulars. As already summarized, the enchilada was seasoned averagely, as was the guacamole. Unfortunately it wasn't really "baked" as advertised - the cheese barely melted. The salad attached is fresh. Overall OK.

I ate together with my wife. I ordered Burrito Mexicana and my wife ordered Vegetable Enchilada along with fries and onion rings. Everything was great. The staff was also super nice. The drinks were very great had the Yuzu Homemade Ice Tea. All in all a high quality restaurant. I can recommend it to everyone, including non-vegans.

As a regular lunchtime guest, I can only say: I have never encountered such a diverse lunch menu anywhere else. The dishes are always freshly cooked, innovative ingredients that are often unknown to me ensure great variety and great taste experiences. The always friendly service rounds off the picture positively. PS: I'm not vegan, but Verde Kiel is THE recommendation for me!

There were five of us there today! We shared different starters and everyone had a different dish and each one was really very tasty and freshly prepared! Very nice people who just want to conjure up a great vegan/vegetarian meal for you! Although several of us are self-confessed Carnifores, we didn't miss anything at all!

Ordered via Uber for the second time and two sauces were forgotten the first time. And today we ordered again and once again with double salsa - but damn cake there was nothing. It was just calculated. And then the tortilla side dishes were the original 4 pieces... that's pretty great for €18... we won't be ordering online again. It's a shame because it's still delicious in itself.

A great shop with nice people and excellent food. As a non-vegetarian, I had real difficulties making a decision because everything sounds delicious. The dips are particularly great. A meal that will fill you up, around €16 to €18. Great value for money. Gladly again.

We were here in the restaurant today. We received a very friendly welcome in the small, cozy restaurant. There you were given good advice about the dishes, so you can make a quick decision. You have to be lucky if you visit spontaneously as it is well attended. It's best to reserve (by phone or online). Then it will definitely work. If we are in Kiel again overnight, we will come back. It was really tasty.

Luckily landed a table on the same evening; definitely recommend booking in advance if you can. The dining room is small-ish but cosy. We tried the seasonal menue (the autumn burrito was delicious) and the regular menue (the mushroom tacos were also incredible). Overall, there's many dishes and drinks to pick from, ranging from mild to spicy. Staff was busy but attentive. And all vegan and vegetarian. Couldn't recommend enough, especially if you haven't tried Mexican cuisine before!

I ordered a table by phone and was immediately impressed by the friendliness of the staff. Was there for the first time and ordered the enchiladas poblanas and the homemade iced tea. Everything is beautifully presented and nicely decorated. The food and drink were simply fantastic. The price/performance ratio is right and the portions are plentiful. I have never had such a delicious meal at any other Mexican restaurant. The service was warm, very attentive and you felt welcome. The atmosphere is incredibly cozy, especially because the restaurant is very small. Kudos to the team at “El Sombrero Verde”. Your concept and implementation are brilliant! Keep it up! I think I have found my new favorite restaurant in Kiel. ☺️

Food is really good but the portion is too small for the price. If you have a big hunger be prepare to pay quite a lot to fill your stomach 😁

We were here for the first time today and what can we say: simply thrilled. Super friendly and authentic young man in service. And the food is simply extremely delicious. Prices absolutely fair. Our personal recommendation are the vegan chili cheese nuggets. We'll be back.

A fully vegetarian Mexican, how cool is that! There is also plenty of vegan selection. The food was delicious and goes far beyond standard Mexican cuisine. For example, we had a delicious burrito with, among other things, avocado, sweet potatoes and quinoa in it. Hopefully Kiel will stay with this great Mexican restaurant for a long time, vegetarian-vegan restaurants are far too rare anyway and with Mexican cuisine they are even unique! But it was well attended, so it looks good! Reservation is recommended, otherwise you will definitely find a place outside without a reservation.

Fantastisch - Ein tolles mexikanisches Restaurant, und das komplett ohne Fleisch! Wer hätte das gedacht! Wir genossen einen wunderschönen Abend im Sombrero Verde! Die Speisen waren extrem lecker, die Drinks (sowohl mit als auch ohne Alkohol gibt es eine grosse Auswahl) kreativ und das Personal sehr zuvorkommend und freundlich! Ein Grund bald wieder nach Kiel zu reisen!

First of all: I eat a lot of vegetarian food, but not only. I enjoyed by far the tastiest vegetarian meal I've had to date. Service is great, very attentive and you feel comfortable even with children - especially outside in summer. Ambience inside: Start-Up 😉 Ambiance outside: on the edge of the city, the outdoor seating is a bit uncomfortable with a view of the arena's parking lot or disused parking garage. But the food outshines everything, so we went there twice in our auction. Any time!

Exclusively vegetarian Mexican with an option for vegan. There was also enough choice for those with gluten intolerance. The Kiel sorbet ice cream was the crowning glory. Very nice service. And the most important thing: Very tasty, fresh and a well-harmonised taste experience! Well seasoned, I was surprised at how good vegan Mexican food can taste. I can absolutely recommend it, even if you have gluten intolerance and are vegan. Top!

I got to know this restaurant as a food truck on the Fusion and was incredibly excited, the meat on the taco was one of the best I've ever had. The next day I ate another taco and 2 burritos ❤️ I've now saved it on Google Maps in case I'm in Kiel/surroundings!

Today we went to Kiel with our little son to attend Kiel Week. In the evening we were hungry and really tired. We walked to this Mexican restaurant and waited a long time until the food was ready. The food was an absolute disaster. Unfortunately we couldn't eat any of it, just fries! Service was also very bad and the staff was very, very unfriendly, especially towards children! Even cheeky and rude! don't recommend at all!!! this is how you waste your time

A delightful culinary journey into Mexican cuisine combines a fresh vegan / vegetarian interpretation of Mexican classics and stables with food cooked from scratch. Make sure to give the arepas a try and don’t skip appetizers! The solid selection of cocktails round up a nice hip atmosphere! Also has gluten free options for most dishes.

We picked up the 5-course menu for 2 people here for Christmas and enjoyed it at home. It was just crazy. We didn't like one little thing, the rest was incredibly good. We particularly liked the salad with Christmas dressing and the Redefined Meat. The soup was super tasty and the dessert was really powerful. We'll definitely be back next year.

Auf der Suche nach einem veganen Restaurant, dass Montag geöffnet hat, fanden wir den Sombrero Verde. Die Bedienung gab uns die Saisonempfehlung Burrito Autum mit Pumpkin zu probieren. Wir nahmen es 2x und Süßkartoffel Pommes dazu. Was soll ich sagen, es war mega lecker und wir waren so satt, dass wir uns die Spicy Pumpkin Latte nur noch teilen konnten. Die Bedienung war sehr rührig, freundlich und hatte das Lokal gut im Griff. Das Ambiente war nicht überladen und sagte uns zu.
