El Pais Spanisches Restaurant in Hannover

Hopelessly overwhelmed with larger groups. Even though everything was pre-ordered, we waited 50 minutes for bread, olives, and aioli. The first drinks took half an hour. This is the second time I've had this experience.

It was really very good and delicious, I can only recommend it.

It used to be my favorite Spanish restaurant in Hanover, so I wanted to try it again. We had a reservation for 6:30 p.m., but since my girlfriend's parents, who are over 80, are with us, we didn't arrive until 6:33 p.m. After I said we had a reservation, a member of staff rudely told us, "It's not 6:30 p.m." After three minutes, we were assigned an (emergency) table near the entrance, not in the cozy dining area where we would have sat otherwise, but near the door. It was drafty, and the lighting there was uncomfortably cold. After 20 minutes, we were finally allowed to order, and half an hour later, the food arrived. Criticisms: Why aren't cold tapas and bread served immediately so guests don't starve to death? Is it too much to ask that you can be 3, I repeat 3, minutes late without losing your reservation and being treated rudely? The food was good so far, but the thing we were most looking forward to wasn't cooked at all: the prawns with garlic. They were gristly and not crispy; the garlic didn't quite match its flavor. There was also a lack of salt. The end, as is so often the case in other restaurants: You're done eating and drinking, and no one else comes. Conclusion: It used to be better. With seniors who have to freeze (although they weren't the only ones; I was cold too because of the draft) and poor service, it's no longer worth going there. I didn't feel that the customer is king, but rather that the customer is, in doubt, just the burden that does the work.

Yes, great food, very friendly service. There were 13 of us, and everyone was very satisfied.

The restaurant has a moderate, cozy space located in a quiet street. The food is delicious with large portions, the dishes you should try are seafood and ribs.

I discovered this restaurant through social media and decided to visit right away. When I arrived, I asked a woman if there was a table available for two. She responded with "just one sec," which I understood, especially given that it was a busy Saturday night. I stepped aside politely—not blocking anyone—and waited patiently. However, she never came back to us. Instead, she carried on with her tasks and began welcoming other new guests who arrived after us, greeting them warmly while completely ignoring us. We were still standing there, clearly waiting, but she made no effort to acknowledge us or communicate further. Later, I reached to her again, and she says the tables are fully booked, and we left. I don't speak German, which might have made communication a bit less smooth, but I don’t believe that’s an excuse for such poor service or dismissive behavior. Overall, the experience was quite disappointing and made us feel unwelcome.

The tapas selection is very varied and delicious. We enjoyed our meal and would gladly return. The service is attentive and friendly.

Make sure to order your Paella right away, as it takes a bit of time to prepare, but trust me, it's absolutely worth the wait! Everything we tasted was simply incredible! 🤩

Walking through the streets, I spotted my country's flag and thought I had to go in for some bravas. Good service, very good tapas, a great atmosphere, and above all, someone who understands me 😃 When I return, I'll definitely be back.

We were here with friends, sat outside on the small terrace and enjoyed the food and the evening. We love this restaurant and have been going here regularly for 14 years, maybe four or five times a year, sometimes as a couple, sometimes with friends. Every time we study the menu very carefully and each time we decide on the same tapas, sometimes a new tapas is added. Don't forget the aioli with bread first - it's simply heavenly.

Unfortunately it was better. Very loud. You don't understand your own words. Food was nothing special. Unimaginative and unfortunately not worth the price. We were disappointed, especially since we knew it differently from the past. Too bad.

Despite reservation confirmation, a reminder email on the same day and a name entry in the on-site reservation book, we didn't get a table in a half-empty restaurant. There was no explanation why, let alone an apology.

It was super tasty and very good service. We didn't have to wait long and we were regularly asked if everything was okay. We enjoyed everything we tried in terms of tapas. One star less for the ambience because it was a little too loud for us. But only when many tables were occupied. We'd love to come back.

I'm trying to remain objective, even though I'm at a loss for words and any understanding of this behavior. But first things first: On December 15th, I reserved a table for 2 people for December 31st, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. via the El Pais website. The confirmation came on the same day. So far so good. On December 31st We were there promptly at 7 p.m. A very unfriendly woman then told us that there was no reservation and that they apparently wouldn't accept anything because the restaurant had already been fully booked for a long time. You can only offer us a table until 8 p.m. at most. But it was already 7:15 p.m., so it didn't really make sense. I then first showed her my reservation email, to which she replied very annoyed that I would also need confirmation. I then showed her my confirmation email. She said she needed to clarify this briefly and then came back saying there was no reservation. And we wouldn't get more than the table until 8 p.m. So according to the motto, the mistake is clearly ours. She then simply ignored the confirmation email. Of course you can make mistakes, but I have never experienced behavior like this before. No apology or attempt to make up for the mistake, which was clearly El Pais's. Maybe it's because some restaurants think they no longer need it? Regarding the food, I can only report from a previous visit. There were some delicious dishes, but also a few not so good ones. For example, one grill skewer was dry and the shrimp was wobbly. But you don't have to order again next time. I would describe the atmosphere as “normal”. However, the tables are close together and when the shop is full, there is a background noise that doesn't really allow for conversation. Finally, I personally cannot recommend this restaurant. But there are plenty of other Spanish restaurants in Hanover that also take care of their guests and where you don't feel like you're being a nuisance.

Good solid food, main course paela didn't blow me away, but it was solid. But the tapas were much better, so it remains a recommended location.

A good Spanish restaurant with authentic cuisine, nice service and reasonable prices. Attention: the tapas are raciones, i.e. small main courses. 3 of them filled my wife and I, so we took the actual main course with us. Be sure to order alioli. Reservation recommended.

After a long day of hiking, we ordered up and down the tapas menu. And freshly tapped Estrella Galicia 🍺 It couldn't be better.

Just know that you’re not going to a real Spanish restaurant, but if you’re tired of German cuisine, you might give it a try.

Good Spanish food and very nice service.

It has been a regrettable experience... I came with the hope of finding a Spanish restaurant on my vacation. I have ordered several dishes and they were all frozen, the calamari couldn't even be chewed. The potatoes were homemade, the only positive thing I can add. But the treatment has been terrible, they have even disrespected me for being Spanish. I do not recommend it and without a doubt I will never return.

Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed this time. Usually it's our favorite Spanish restaurant and we always order paella. This time we had a completely different experience My husband and I reserved a table. When we arrived, the waitress (lady with black hair and glasses) was very tense. She assigned us a table right next to the door, even though there were still tables available upstairs where the ambience was nicer. Customers who came after us got the better tables... when we asked her about it, she told us that it would be better here because it would be loud up there... well, we can decide for ourselves! We ordered a starter and a bottle of water, and she served us sparkling water. Unfortunately, this time we didn't order paella but fish dishes. Unfortunately, they were very greasy so my husband wasn't able to eat his plate and we took his plate with us. The other waiters who served us instead of the first waitress were nice and courteous

We recently visited the El Pais restaurant on our short vacation in Hanover. We hadn't pre-ordered, but we were lucky that there was still a free table. Therefore, a table reservation is absolutely recommended. When the weather is nice, you can also sit outside, but on a street with less traffic. The restaurant offers a large selection of tapas and other main dishes. We had a mixed tapa plate XL (No. 22, very tasty) and a grilled plate of various fish fillets (No. 37). Both are highly recommended. We will eat there again on our next city trip to Hanover...

The restaurant has a good atmosphere and the food is good but the service is terrible. Really terrible. The attitude and the way they work can spoil your food.

This is the second time we have been here without a reservation. Both times we were warmly welcomed and served very courteously. The food is of great quality and prepared very tasty. For us it will be our regular tapas bar.

After almost 30 years, a new opportunity. Unfortunately, I can't understand the good reviews regarding the food. The little squids were really rubbery, not edible, we only saw a plancha from afar. The Chorzio was cut into thin slices and then fried(?) Result: very dry, partly burnt sausage chips. The patas had no taste, a little salt would have been nice. The fried boquerones were edible. However, the reaction to our criticism was very professional. We were offered a new dish and also a free dessert or coffee. We also got another fresh portion of aioli with bread. Conclusion: worst tapas I've ever had.

I called specifically to see if we could get something to eat at 9:30 p.m. It said yes. Then I went there extra quickly and found out that it was too late and that they closed at 10.30 p.m. That was 10 ago. After that I didn't get anything anywhere because it was Monday and 10 p.m. Thanks for wasting time at the end of the day. Simply incompetence. You could have said it straight away on the phone

Food good, staff sometimes a little overwhelmed. It also took a very long time for the food to arrive. Update 04/28/23 everything was great, including the service and the time it took for the food to arrive.

I don't know why I haven't eaten here more often. The food is terrific. The bacon-wrapped dates are particularly great, as are the artichokes

We had an extraordinarily beautiful and tastefully outstanding evening. The food was very tasty and the price was appropriate for the quality. It is advisable to make a reservation in the evening, as the restaurant was always full and some guests who came without a reservation unfortunately had to be turned away.

This is the best restaurant I have ever eaten at on a business trip in Hannover, especially the Spanish seafood risotto, which is very delicious for Eastern tastes.

According to several German-Spanish people from Hanover, the best tapas restaurant in the city. I personally only had good experiences there. Recommended.

The food, especially the paella, was very tasty and freshly prepared. Personally, I would advise against the beef dish because the sauce is very watery and the meat is not the best. But what didn't work at all (for the third time) is the service. The waitress is sweet and friendly, but very overwhelmed. You have to repeat the order several times and still end up with something wrong. Another story from the evening: Our table asked for candles because we wanted to make up for two birthdays and they didn't want them to notice. Then the waitress arrived and handed us a small candle across the table. We took it with humor, but I've never experienced anything like it.

The ribs tasted delicious, but the meat fell off the bone poorly. At around 10:00 p.m. the music got louder and seemed like someone was throwing people out.

Our number 1 if we want to eat tapas. We look forward to it every time and have never been disappointed. Everything was super tasty. You should definitely bring your time, it may take a little longer. No problem for us, we like to stay there longer.

Solide. Der Laden gibt mir leider nichts. Aioli Convenience Produkt. Die Tapas sind in Ordnung zum Teil. Sangria naja. Viele Gerichte dabei die einfach nicht passen. Calamari’s sehr Gummiartig und sehr hell, auch eher Fertig Produkt. Wie aus anderen Bewertungen werden Fehler bei der Bestellung gemacht. Vom Ambiente sehr eng. Preislich war es allerdings in Ordnung
