El Greco in Weimar

I love this restaurant. It's quick, the wait is short, and the food is incredibly good. We really, really enjoy eating there. The staff are very welcoming and in a great mood. They always say "small but perfectly formed," and that's certainly true in this case. It's definitely worth several visits!

We happened upon the restaurant by chance as we were returning from vacation. We arrived shortly before 5:30 p.m. and the staff were very friendly. Very nice and helpful.

I had to order the village platter tzatziki separately (€5.90). Dish was with pork steak and gyros. Onion rings were missing. Ordered instead of just rice, fries & rice, half portion each. Another €2 surcharge was charged for this. I for one will not eat there again!!!

Wir wurden durch sehr freundliches Personal/Inhaber empfangen. Die Location liegt zwar unmittelbar an einem Supermarktparkplatz, dennoch ist man relativ "unter sich" (zumindest an Sonntagen). Das Essen ist relativ hochpreisig, aber gut. Wir hatten kleine Vorspeisen und danach Pasticio. Der Ouzo zum abschluß war obligatorisch.

Typical Greek cuisine is also very delicious here, and I especially like the desserts. The atmosphere isn't particularly cozy; I personally felt it lacked a bit of Greek flair.

As lovers of Greek cuisine, we visited El Greco in Weimar. We arrived at 8:30 p.m. We were greeted with the words that we should order immediately as the restaurant closes at 10 p.m. Ah yes. So I quickly picked and ordered food. The pastizio was partly dried out, the macaroni was overcooked, the taste was disappointing, but at €16.80 it was at least not cheap. I left half of it standing. The mixed plate for €17.80 with lamb chops and gyros also didn't taste good, the rice was overcooked and there was no tzatziki on the plate. We only know it with this supplement. Attention: The spoon of tzatziki that was ordered later was found as a special item on the invoice for €5.90 (!). That's awesome! Since we were just passing through, the question of another visit doesn't arise anyway. But in our opinion this restaurant is not recommended.

Food is great, opening times are wrong. You can't get anything at 8:50 p.m. because they supposedly close at 9 p.m. According to Google and their own homepage, open until 10:30 p.m.

After a long time, I had lunch with my girlfriend at El Greco again. Unfortunately I was very disappointed with the quality and number of grape leaves. This appetizer used to be delicious and freshly made. These tasted terrible. So I skipped the main course. It's a shame, because the staff continues to make a lot of effort to serve the guests well.

Can't quite understand the bad reviews. The food was great, the service was super friendly and on the ball. The only thing we also found was the quick processing. It only took us an hour from arriving to saying goodbye, and we didn't really feel comfortable. As soon as a plate was empty, it was gone. But that's complaining at a high level. We were here around Easter 2024. Very attentive, friendly and quick service and delicious food. On warm days the terrace fills up quickly. But it's easy to find a spot in the large interior. The grill plate for two with a delicious selection of meat and especially the fine gyros are highly recommended.

Very good food! That was my review 5 years ago, and I've eaten there several times since. I was there today, 1. Bad service, dishes were cleared away while many people were still eating, causing a lot of commotion. I always like the bifsteki there, but it's unfortunately salty and there's not much cheese in the filling. The plate decoration was also a joke: a yellow lettuce leaf with a hard carrot slice. I won't go there again unless I hear of an improvement.

We've been here often and happily so far. But today was the last time! The service was very poor and the waiter was unfriendly. The Bifteki was dry, little cheese, loveless. You could eat the grilled peppers and the salad too, but the portions used to be larger and the food was tastier. The service was a disaster...plates were passed across the table, cleared away as soon as one was ready. My girlfriend wanted another white wine, the waiter asked which one, my girlfriend said the one I had, I don't know what kind it was... the waiter - well, neither did I. The ambience is like a train station hall. Bye Bye El Greco!

Not recommended! I ordered a small bottle of water. That's what it said on the map. I was brought a glass of water WITHOUT a bottle. I sent it back saying it tasted like tap water. Unfortunately, the food wasn't what it used to be and isn't anything special anymore. We told the waiter about this and about the tap water as he was clearing the plates. He was visibly annoyed and laughed because of the “supposed” tap water. He brought me a bottle (!) of Thüringer Waldquell and said that that was the water. My husband and I knew that couldn't be the case because that's the water we drink at home, but we both tried it again and said that it definitely wasn't the water that was brought to me from before. He walked away laughing and brought the bill (which we had to request). Aside from the fact that the water that receded was on the bill (we haven't experienced this anywhere else), the alleged Thuringian forest spring was listed as "Bonaqua". This proved our statement and it was simply a lie from the waiter. I insisted not to pay for tap water. The waiter argued the whole time and didn't let me have a say. Then my husband raised his voice for a moment so that the waiter could let me finish. He then threatened my husband and said he should come back in an hour at the end of the day. Very questionable staff, dear El Greco! Zero stars!

I can't fully understand the positive reviews. Salad with mayo has nothing to do with being Greek. The pork steak has a strange texture and the gyro takes some getting used to and is quite fatty. The service is very attentive and friendly. The 0.2 Spezi (poured exactly on the line) costs €2.90. A proud price. Overall, the price-performance ratio is not right, also with regard to the food and the atmosphere.

Yes, it's a shame, the nearby hotel probably makes business so much easier that passion in the kitchen and service becomes superfluous. My visit to the Greek restaurant El Greco was quite a disappointment. Instead of the garlic bread we ordered, we were given four bruschettas on a plate that was already used and stained with leftover salad. (Carrots) We were charged dearly for ordering zatziki, and to my surprise we also had to pay for each ouzo - there wasn't even one as a greeting, which is common in Greek restaurants. In addition, the manager of the house was quite pushy, kept coming to our table and patting my husband on the shoulder to ask if everything was okay. The food overall was tasteless - the salad and dressing seemed to be finished products and didn't have a good taste. Overall it was a disappointing experience.

Unfortunately not recommended. I have no idea why they treat paying customers like that. The food was good, but didn't represent adequate value for money. Way too expensive for the quantity and quality of the food. When I wanted to pay by card, they didn't tell me how much it would cost or put the bill down, but instead told me demandingly: hand over the card......um please????? When I asked how much it cost, I was told: Tips are only possible in cash. This is absolutely not possible!!! Unfortunately, I had already taken out the €5 note. Friendly is different. The woman we made the reservation with, however, was very friendly. Unfortunately no recommendation. Consistently know better Greek restaurants.

The atmosphere is typically Greek and ok. We were also served quickly. But for vegetarians it is difficult. It says you can also get everything without meat. But hmmm. Do you want it that way? I then decided on a small farmer's salad, which was really ok. And a typical Greek starter. To be on the safe side, I asked again when ordering whether it was really vegetarian. I was assured of that. When it arrived, the first thing I saw was the salmon cream and then the strips of squid. When I complained to the waitress and then to the boss, both of them assured me again that the dish was vegetarian. There's just a little bit of squid in it. They really have no idea what it's about. This shouldn't happen anymore these days. I didn't get an apology and had to pay in full. And €27 for a small salad, an inedible starter and a soda is also pretty steep. SO BEWARE VEGETARIANS! I don't go there anymore.

The food is not good. My gyro was very dry and tasteless. The tomato rice was just rice with tomato paste. Very tasteless. The salad was fresh, but the dressing wasn't homemade. When the orders were served, two of the ordered foods were missing. The price is not appropriate for such food. Too bad.

One of the worst salads I've ever had to eat. I probably had the wrong idea about farmer's lettuce. I ordered without peppers, what was included? Exactly, peppers. The dressing was bland and everything was too salty. The bread was more than bad, not toasted or anything like that and tasteless. As the icing on the cake, the lime (?) in the tequila was bad. This was topped by the poor service. The waitress (the boss himself) didn't speak German well, probably didn't hear my drink and interrupted me in the middle of a sentence and already took the next order at the table. That's probably why he missed the fact that I didn't want peppers and I even said that I couldn't tolerate any, but he wasn't interested in what I had to say. My Kiba wasn't mixed at all, I had to do it myself. There was no salt and pepper on the table. As soon as someone had finished eating, their plate was cleared away after 2 minutes and some people no longer had it standing in front of them while others were still eating. So I don't know when was the last time I ate so badly. And when I look back at it again, I almost have to laugh. The whole thing was topped off by the unfriendly male waitress.

Just great. We go almost every week and it's delicious every time, no matter what you order. It's best to reserve a table. In summer I prefer to sit outdoors.

Unfortunately disappointed. We came here spontaneously for dinner with 3 children. The atmosphere was by no means “typical Greek” but rather a simple restaurant. But that doesn't bother you when you're eating. The service was taciturn but friendly. As a starter we had the garlic bread with olive oil and tomatoes. We all enjoyed it. However, we were a little disappointed with the food. Our daughter had the macaroni casserole from the children's menu. Unfortunately she didn't like it because it contained a spice (which was indefinable even for us). Well, you can't suit everyone's taste, but this was something very strange for a children's dish. Our other two children had the spaghetti with tomato sauce and the gyros, both also from the children's menu. The verdict for both was “tasty”. I had the chicken with metaxa sauce, my husband had the gyros with the same sauce. It was tasty so far, but the only 5 croquettes that were served on a separate plate and the rather unimaginative "presentation" disappointed us a bit. What made me a bit angry, however, was the subsequent bill. Because every dish was more expensive than stated on the menu. Instead of €18.90 and €19.90 for our adult dishes, we charged just under €25 each and €12.50 instead of the stated €9.90 for each children's dish. I'm now assuming it was a mistake that all 5 of us got an old map. However, our dishes were still not worth the €25.

Wir waren im Hotel nebenan zu Gast, kamen nach Stau recht spät an und wollten noch etwas essen. Die Begrüßung in dem sehr einfach gehaltenen Lokal um 20.45 Uhr war so dass man das Gefühl hatte, lästig zu sein. Leider setzten sich die schlechten Eindrücke fort: Viel zu teure Vorspeisen, kleine Portionen, missmutiger Service, lieblos angerichtet, geschmacklich lasch... Alles in allem eine Katastrophe!

Ich habe noch nie ein so schlechtes Essen in einem griechischen Restaurant gegessen. Weder in Deutschland noch im Ausland. Das Bifteki war geschmacklich unterirdisch. Der Service hat auf unserer Bemerkung, das das Essen nicht gut war nur mit der Schulter gezuckt. Wir werden das Lokal meiden.

Noch nie habe ich in einem griechischen Lokal (weder in Deutschland noch in Griechenland) so eine unfreundliche Begrüßung und auch insgesamt miserable Auffassung von Service und Gastfreundschaft erlebt, wie hier! Völlig überteuerte Vorspeisen wegen folgender Kriterien: schlechte Qualität, wenig Geschmack und kleine Portionen. Als Krönung dann eben noch der "Service".

Das Lokal lebt offenbar von ein paar Stammgästen (es gibt keine Alternative) aber wohl hauptsächlich von Gästen aus dem großen Hotel nebenan. Das merkt man: Hier wird sich keinerlei Mühe gegeben! Unfreundliche Begrüßung, einfachst-rustikale Einrichtung, typische Essensauswahl; Der Beginn hieß "Knoblauchbrot" und stellte sich als eine Art Bruschette heraus: 4 Stück Weißbrot mit Tomaten-Knoblauch-Belag für stolze 7,50 Euro heraus. Dazu gab es eine "Vorspeisenplatte". Diese war ein Teller, auf dem waren: ein kleiner Klecks Taramas, ein kleiner Klecks Frischkäse, etwas Zaziki, ein kleines Stück Weißbrot mit Feta und Tintenfisch-Salat; Was kostet so etwas in Berlin? Zwischen 6 und 10 Euro. Hier will man unverschämte 13,90 Euro dafür. Mehr wollten wir dann nicht mehr essen. Beim Bezahlen äußerten wir sachlich, dass wir die Preise als zu teuer empfinden. Reaktion: Beschimpfung... So etwas habe ich noch nie erlebt!

The food was average. The mixed grill plate was a bit dry and too small for the price. No tzatziki and a loveless lettuce leaf on the side. The starter salad was also much too small without olive or pepperoni as you would expect from Greeks. All in all, pretty average and worth considering for another visit.

You will receive a very warm welcome. The food selection is large. The food tastes good, a little Greek trip. We eat here regularly. Here you will be pampered as a guest.

Not much authentic food like you are used to in Greece. But expensive.

Handy place, good value for money and able to accommodate people with just 40 minutes to spare whilst the car is being charged. Took just a main course, apparently typical Greek dish which was fine. Seems popular with the locals which often is a positive sign. Will try something else next time I’ll be driving through. Can recommend it for hungry EV drivers.
