I just had a small beer (0.5l), a bottled one for over 5 euros was a bit pricey. But they were nice.

El Chico completely won me over! Super friendly service, delicious food, and fantastic cocktails. The atmosphere is modern, cozy, and simply perfect for relaxing. Ideal for a laid-back evening – I'll definitely be back!

The best part: the view. The downside: after the first bite, you have to go looking for a restaurant because the food was inedible. Bland, greasy, uninspired, and partly from a tube/can. No, not recommended! Please explore Tübingen's wide and varied culinary scene elsewhere.

We went to El Chicko today, October 1, 2025, hoping to get something delicious to eat. Our orders were taken, but our drinks arrived after about 15 minutes. Then, about an hour later, after asking where our food was, the employee seriously said the food was only just being prepared (an hour!!!). The place was quiet, the service was poor and unorganized, and most people didn't speak German. Of course, during that hour, we were asked several times if we wanted anything else to drink. Apparently, the waitress overslept and didn't send the bill to the kitchen, but then cheekily asked us if we wanted anything else, so we got up and left!

Ordered via Uber Eats. The food was absolutely terrible. The quesadilla was about 0.5 cm thick but tasted superior to the burrito. The burritos were terrible: jackfruit, rice, and beans, that's it. Barely any seasoning, mediocre dips. €15-18 per dish is a real disgrace. Never again El Chico.

Ordering from El Chico was a complete disappointment. The food didn't taste good, arrived lukewarm at best (despite the relatively short delivery time), and my order was incomplete, even though it was clearly stated on the receipt. It's a shame, but unfortunately, I won't be returning.

No, unfortunately, I can't recommend it. The waiter brings you the food with a receipt on it, with the motto "pay and eat." When you comment, the waiter responds arrogantly with "It's just like that." The food was also only worth diarrhea. At least the view there is nice.

We went for a drink at El Chico the day before yesterday. Unfortunately, the service was abysmal. Our order arrived at the table incorrectly, and the wait for two drinks was over 45 minutes, even though it wasn't busy. We'd rather go somewhere else for drinks in the future.

We went there for dinner with the family, and the food and service were a disaster. Half the food was cold. The steaks were either too raw or already dry. Our first time there and definitely the last.

The seating is very pleasant, with a direct view of the Neckar River. The selection of Mexican food is very limited, and unfortunately, the food is very poorly prepared. The sauces and dips are from a tube, and the food generally lacks spices. Anyone wanting Mexican food will certainly find better alternatives. The magnificent view of the Neckar River is the only thing worth it.

Quite disappointing. The table that arrived after us got their food before us. We had to wait almost an hour, even though the restaurant was almost empty. And then we didn't even get our food together. The food itself was like it was thrown onto a plate. The taste was okay, but it lacked seasoning. The dip was just a spoonful of sour cream. The server was nice, if not very present. I don't know what happened here, but it's nothing like it used to be. Nothing I'd come back for.

The food was good. This should really be enough of a review, but I just have to say that the service was a disaster. We received a quick but unfriendly welcome. The food arrived earlier than the drinks (even though it wasn't a special order), and only after asking another employee did the waitress (who stands at the bar the whole time) come with the drinks. When I wanted to order a second drink, she kind of rolled her eyes, like, "Don't get on my nerves." This time she came back lightning fast. After that, no employee was anywhere near the guests, even though several wanted to pay. Only after asking did the employee of the month come. When we left the restaurant, all the guests' dishes were still there (they were already gone when we walked in). They obviously don't have air conditioning, despite the 36-degree temperature inside. Instead, they have a fan that only works in one direction. (Very useful) But I have to say, it was extremely busy and confusing with 9 guests. I was there last a year ago, and everything was great, no complaints, but the bad reviews turned out to be true. It's a shame, really.

Nice place with delicious Mexican food.

We just wanted a tequila as a nightcap and picked a table in the restaurant. The order was quick. Then, unfortunately, nothing happened. After 10 minutes, we got up, saw the waitress talking with colleagues, and were surprised. She pointed out the two tequila shots at the bar. They were there, and we were somewhere else, and the waitress was chatting away. So we left and just left the drinks as drinks. We definitely won't be going back there anytime soon.

After we'd already gotten our menus ourselves, two waitresses told us, one after the other, that they weren't responsible for us. The third was standing behind the counter taking selfies with her colleague. At one point, she came to the next table, but then quickly turned away. They recommended we leave, the neighbors said, as they had waited an hour for their food (the restaurant was about a third full). We followed their advice. Too bad.

What on earth has happened here?!? We were last at El Chico about three years ago, and everything was fine then. But this time everything was just wrong, except for the nice spot on the balcony. The table was sloppily wiped and sticky. The waitress kept disappearing for long periods of time, then visibly overwhelmed with taking our orders, and usually the same. The steaks on the menu weren't available at the time (okay, that can happen when everything else is fine). The food came reasonably quickly after taking our orders, but some of it was cold (it was probably pre-cooked and they might have forgotten the microwave). And the drinks still hadn't arrived. When we asked, we finally got one(!) drink. We had to ask again for the remaining drinks. We then left as quickly as possible. That was nothing.

We waited forever for the food—45 minutes to be exact—and the restaurant wasn't full. The glasses were dirty and the food was so dry. I don't recommend it.

Yesterday, we went to the Mexican restaurant El Chico in Tübingen with our family. Unfortunately, the visit didn't quite meet our expectations. The food was rather mediocre overall, with an okay taste, but lacking the particular refinement or spice one would expect from Mexican cuisine. The service was also okay, but not particularly attentive or friendly. The only really positive thing worth mentioning is the view the restaurant offers; especially in nice weather, it's a great place to sit and enjoy the view. Overall, the experience was unfortunately rather average. If you come just for the view, you might be satisfied – but there are certainly better culinary options in Tübingen.

We spent two wonderful evenings here and are absolutely satisfied. Sitting on the terrace right on the Neckar River, drinking great non-alcoholic cocktails and eating delicious Mexican food. We highly recommend EL Chico. The only drawback is that the service doesn't notice you until relatively late when you want to reorder something or pay, but they were always very friendly. Also, the glass panes on the railing should be cleaned more often; that would be nice!

Great location, beautiful view from the terrace, and the ambiance was nice, but that's about it. The margaritas are served in small whiskey glasses; the food, unfortunately, bears no resemblance to Mexican food. The enchilada was absolutely dry, served with dry rice. The dips for the nachos were from a jar; not even the salsa was fresh. The service was very friendly and attentive, but the food is truly not recommended, which is a shame.

Stay away. Don't go there if you truly understand what the phrase "good Mexican food" means. The tomato salad was straight from the fridge, was simply moldy, and the fries were really cold. The rest is just a mishmash. Furthermore, they have no idea about authentic Mexican cuisine. The recipes only have Mexican names, but they're just garbage and undermine the dignity of Mexican taste. They should be banned from using the name "Mexican restaurant." And the waiters... constantly overwhelmed, unruly, and inexperienced (because of the beautiful location, the place is packed on weekends). After a miserable service, they keep the change in their hands and look at you like, "You don't really want it, do you?" If you have a healthy sense of smell: never again! Gladly for a beer once a year.

The place is half empty, and it still takes 15 minutes for the waitress to come over, at hand signal, and then, in a very bored manner, ask what you want. I actually ordered something, but I'll go somewhere else next time; I've rarely experienced such poor service. The drinks are okay, but too expensive.

We used to love going to this restaurant. Unfortunately, we had to wait over an hour for food during our visit. The plate was hot, the food was lukewarm (probably came from the microwave) and the rice that we were really looking forward to no longer tastes like Mexican rice at all. If we had the food at home it would probably be our last visit - a shame!

Seldom eaten so badly. Not even the drinks were cold. The beer stale. The food came after over an hour. But the Ballermann clientele seems to like it. Maybe you should go to El Chico with exactly those expectations.

We ordered an appetizer that is supposedly for 2 people and then EACH OF US is charged the amount that was on the menu. This is misleading advertising! Include the total price of the dish, not the amount you should pay for it! thieves

Honestly, it wasn't highly recommended. Very sorry! Long waits for the food, and sometimes the food wasn't hot anymore, more like lukewarm. It wasn't delivered at the same time, but with varying wait times. Small portions, but rather high prices – and no toilet paper in the restroom, despite repeated warnings. This could definitely be better...

The "El Chico" in Tübingen is a typical Mexican restaurant, but with a special ambience thanks to the wide window front facing the Neckar. The restaurant is on the first floor of a brewery. The food is always good and cheap, but we have had different experiences with the service. Sometimes more trying than professional (I expect clean glasses), but at least always friendly.

🤮🤢 Everything is stale. The salad is all weathered, the vegetables have a strange aftertaste. The burger is cold. The bun looks like it came straight from the refrigerator. One salad was brought right away. And two more in 20 minutes. When asked if French fries are included in the price of the burger, they told me - Yes. And then they brought me a bill where the potatoes cost separately.

They came with joy and left with frustration. When we got to the table we quickly got the menu. That's the only positive thing. We waited over 20 minutes for the waiter who simply didn't come and couldn't be found... Mind you, the restaurant was pretty empty. Other guests were also waiting and wanted to pay. Can't understand where the waiter was? Well, we left at some point because we lost our appetite. Won't go there again either. Someone probably doesn't want to earn anything if you treat guests as if they weren't there or at a self-service restaurant.

We were only served wraps with minced meat and were charged far too much money for them. No Mexican spices in the food, no real Mexican cuisine at all. There used to be enchilada con crema di queso and mole, but today there are just boring, one-sided dishes. At least the music is good and the ambience is fine. But that was it.

It was our first time there and it was delicious! There is a very good selection of tapas and also good wine. We felt completely comfortable and received great service! I would eat there again at any time as I still have to and want to try the rest of the menu.

Not Mexican food at all. It doesn't taste like Mexican food at all. Flour tortillas filled with bolognese-type ground beef and they say they are meat tacos or burritos or Don Miguel tacos, they are an insult!! The enchiladas seem like a joke, they put corn tortillas with ketchup-type sauce, chicken, cheese, another tortilla on top with "Bolognese sauce" chicken in pieces, cheese and the only Mexican thing there were the 4 slices of jalapeño peppers in vinegar.

Unfortunately, our visit to El Chico wasn't exactly great. Although we received our drinks unusually quickly, we had to wait half an hour before we could order our food and unfortunately only after being asked. Our starter came, but we didn't receive any cutlery, so we had to request this separately. The main course was quite tasty, but we were surprised about the rice, which looked and tasted 1 to 1 like good and cheap microwave rice - just a guess... The usual question from a professional waiter as to whether everything was OK or if you needed something else unfortunately it didn't happen. The bill was moderate. There were no paper towels in either the women's or men's toilets and unfortunately the soap was also empty. Too bad. This is a nice bar for drinking cocktails, but not recommended for really nice food.

The enchilada grande, burrito and the fajitas were a good portion. Not the best we had but ok. Even if the place was empty (apart from us and 2 more tables) the staff wasn't really paying attention to us. Due to the few options you have in tubingen it is a restaurant to consider.

Upon entry my girlfriend and I were not greeted or seated by anyone. We stood around for 5-10 mins and finally asked if we could sit. We did. It took around 30 mins to order and when we did the food came out incorrect. We then just asked for the food to go. After waiting another 45 mins for just the box we were met with no apology or empathy from our waitress. She just told us the amount owed and wished us a happy weekend…. While thanks for the wishful weekend a simple sorry for the service due to lack of staffing or my simple forgetfulness would have been nice. To top this off we were given our “to-go” bag for free!!! Thanks El Chico. :/

I noticed the shop and decided to enjoy my dinner there. The ambience is very nice and is authentically accompanied by the excellent music. The mocktail was very tasty and delivered what was promised. The burrito wasn't bad either, but I don't have a good comparison yet. I definitely got very full and overall it was a nice experience. The service staff were also nice and attentive. If I lived nearby I might go there more often.
