Deutscher Kaiser in Karlsruhe

The Kaiser is not just a restaurant but a rustic place where you can feel comfortable and have a relaxing evening with good food and delicious drinks. The staff is really friendly and always warm! Wishes are addressed and well-being is taken into account. More vegetarian dishes or dishes with chicken/turkey would be great. There is also more for vegetarians and people who don't eat pork or beef. Otherwise a restaurant you can really be happy with! :)

We had ordered a complete goose weeks before. After we had been sitting for half an hour, the cook came and said he didn't know anything and didn't have a goose. But we could get goose leg or breast with bread or potato dumplings. Three people ordered leg with potato dumplings, one with bread dumplings. After three quarters of an hour, however, the drumsticks all came with bread dumplings, the potato dumplings were just being made and we should start like that. After everyone had eaten, the potato dumplings arrived. The final point was the bill. The bread dumplings that were not even ordered were charged extra. Since the leg was also tough and there were no Brussels sprouts with it, it was a completely overpriced meal overall. There was no apology from the host about the whole situation. That's why we say "never again". This criticism was also passed on to the very nice waitress on site.

We had pre-ordered a goose for Christmas dinner very early on December 25th, 2024. Reservation has been confirmed. When we arrived we were told by the kitchen that they had probably overlooked it and couldn't offer any. The service has confirmed the goose order. So there was either no communication between service and the kitchen or the kitchen generally didn't keep up with advance orders. Individual goose dishes were suggested to us (afterwards a la carte would have been better) When asked which dumplings (potatoes or rolls), everyone chose potatoes, but everyone got rolls because the others weren't ready yet. This was served after everyone had finished eating. However, since only one dumpling is included in the dish, the others were charged additionally. Portions were very small for the price of €37. Also, not all of the side dishes were on the plate as promised and were described on the notice on the door. At the beginning there was only brief information about the goose through the kitchen. The apology was semi-important for us. More like bad luck. The service tried to save it with very friendly service (that's just why the 2 stars) Unfortunately we won't be eating there anymore.

I add my comment to Iris Stork's review: It's a shame that the restaurateur didn't respond politely to the criticism, especially since it was justified. I was also part of this group and can confirm that the portions were significantly smaller compared to last year. Last year there were 2 dumplings (bread dumplings and potato dumplings). This year only one dumpling and the remaining side dishes were also very clear. The first ones had already eaten by the time the last meal arrived. The price for food and drinks was significantly excessive.

In 2023 we went to the Kaiserwirt with several people for a goose meal. At that time we were super happy, there were two different dumplings, enough Brussels sprouts, red cabbage, sauce and chestnuts. Tastes very good. Price was right. Now in November 2024 we were there again, disappointing, not to say price performance disproportionate. Goose breast or goose leg wasn't crispy, just a mini dumpling, 3 Brussels sprouts and chestnuts, a spoonful of red cabbage, that was it, and for expensive money. We won't eat there anymore.

Last Monday we had dinner at the Deutscher Kaiser with a larger group (9 people). Both the quality and the taste of the prepared dishes were excellent (meat, fish, veggie). The service was courteous, unobtrusive and extremely quick! The extensive range of home-brewed beer and home-made schnapps rounded off this lovely evening perfectly. Clear recommendation!

I go there because my friends recommend this. It is outside from the city. I dont really feel comfortable and missing a warm welcome. It is up to you to go there but for younger people not a must. Food was good for the price, but thats it. Loud acoustic and i choose a closer restaurant next time with a bit more friendly staff.

We visited the restaurant spontaneously and were very impressed. Great honest cuisine, large portions, really good quality, not seasoned. Friendly and attentive service and equally friendly chef. Black beer is also highly recommended and you should also try the numerous liqueurs. Prices are fair according to the quality. We came in stable clothes and, despite our somewhat rough appearance, were served just as courteously as the other guests. Restaurant and toilets very clean. Really recommended!

In 2024 we were here for the second time. This time too we were 100% satisfied with the food. We had a game burger and a Wiener schnitzel, both really tasty😋 However, the side salad was really expensive at 9 euros per person. I also consider the small cherry porter at 5 euros to be too expensive! And the fact that there was no welcome beer and no schnapps at the end (as usual) was a drawback. I'm reluctant to accept the justification (you have to pay taxes). Since for many Italians and Greeks a schnapps is obligatory at least afterwards and sometimes beforehand as an appetite stimulant... Nevertheless, still recommended😉 We are now regular customers at the Deutscher Kaiser. Also yesterday on December 12th. We were here again and felt completely comfortable again. The price-performance ratio is very good. The portions are really generous. A super meal and great service. Like every time. Yesterday too I had a delicious beer to welcome you and a really good schnapps at the end on the house. The innkeeper surprised us with a Panatone for Christmas. Each of us received one as a gift. I had never experienced anything so great. A couple who were friends and who we brought with us were absolutely thrilled. We'll definitely be back in the New Year. This restaurant deserves the rating: ABSOLUTELY RECOMMENDED 🥰 And here we were again, once again. Currently there is black porter and a Mega Bock beer. As always, all for the best and continue ABSOLUTELY RECOMMENDED 👍

We are a biker clique and there were 9 of us at the Kaiserwirt, everyone was thrilled with the food. I can only recommend this, very friendly. To top it off at the end with a schnapps from his range, everyone was thrilled with that too. All in all great, we'll be back. 1A kitchen!! Here we cook with heart, mind and very good raw materials! I will definitely visit this kitchen again to have delicious food again! The service was also exceptionally friendly and competent! Gladly again.

Sehr gutes Essen, freundliches Personal

Wir waren zum Stammtisch hier. Service sehr freundlich und kompetent. Speisekarte ist reichhaltig und für jeden Geschmack gibt's auch was. Essen ist gut und preislich angepasst.

Kalbsnierle in Senfsauce mit Bratkartoffeln. Cordon Bleu mit Schwarzwälder Schinken und Pommes Frites. Dazu eine Auswahl der im Haus gebrauten Biere. Alles so, wie man es haben will. Es war sicher nicht unser letzter Besuch. Addendum Auch im Haus erhältlich: Diverses feingebranntes Hochprozentiges, hervorzuheben der Marillenbrand.

Das Essen (Schnitzel) normaler Durchschnitt, Spätzle aus der Packung und das für über 20 € (ohne Salat) ! Hierfür gibt es garantiert bessere und günstigere Alternativen!
