Wirtshaus Wolfbräu in Karlsruhe

I remembered Wolfsbräu as being a bit old-fashioned. We were very pleasantly surprised by the service and the quality of the food. The dumpling with mushrooms was excellent, and the service was quick and very friendly.

Beautiful inn with Swabian and Baden cuisine

I never got to order something. So my review is short and sweet. This place has very weak service. I sat for 30 minutes and not even a single waiter asked for my order. At the end I just walked away hungry.

Great food, large portions and good prices

We visit Karlsruhe once a year, and this inn is always one of our regular haunts. They have a relatively simple menu, but so far the portions have always been generous, the food delicious, and they serve wonderful house beer. Plus, you can eat until late, which is ideal for us when we're attending trade fairs. The service is quick and efficient, the menu is small but excellent, and it's very cozy. And when the weather's nice, there's even a large terrace...

Pleasant atmosphere, the service staff is young and extremely friendly. The food is delicious and of excellent quality. If we ever come back to Karlsruhe, we will definitely return!

Delicious food! The dumplings with mushroom sauce and pulled beef are incredibly tasty, and it even comes with a side salad. I'm extremely satisfied.

Having arrived in Karlsruhe from Milan, Italy, to attend the Pavlov's Dog concert, we decided to have dinner at this place near the hotel where we were staying. Wirtshaus Wolfbräu is a spacious, simple, rustic restaurant, clean and entirely furnished and paneled in wood. The dishes offered are primarily local cuisine, but the menu also includes a section dedicated to pizzas. The staff is brisk but courteous. The restaurant manager makes an effort to speak English and manages to make herself understood. The first night we dined there, we didn't know you needed to reserve, but she managed to find us a table for two of us. On all three nights we dined there, we always chose traditional dishes and we were always satisfied. Considering the generous portions and the good quality of the ingradients, the average cost of €25 per person for each dinner is considered reasonable. The place is always very busy, and reservations are practically mandatory. Recommended.

I ate the pike-perch as the daily special on September 3, 2025: Michelin-star quality! It couldn't be better! ... For €22.90, the portion was quite generous (see photo). -------------------------- The soup of the day on October 13, 2025, for €7.90, was also very tasty and reasonably priced: Creamy vegetable soup with croutons and a few herbs, served with baguette. -------------------------- A daily special on October 20, 2025, for €18.50, was also very tasty: Pappardelle with strips of rump steak and mushrooms in a white wine cream sauce (see photo). -------------------------- A soup of the day on October 27, 2025, for €7.90, was again very tasty: Carrot and potato cream with croutons and a few herbs, served with baguette (see photo). A minor drawback: The croutons were missing, but that didn't bother me; otherwise, I would have... (said!) -------------------------- On October 3rd, there was no soup of the day. I enjoyed the venison goulash with homemade spaetzle for €21.90. The sauce was nice and thick. I like game. I hadn't had it with fresh, crisp vegetables before, but it went well. Lingonberries weren't listed on the chalkboard. This time I asked and they were available. (see photo)

The restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere and the service is superb. Whether you're young or old, it's simply perfect. The food is incredibly good and filling, and the prices are more than fair. We'll definitely be back soon.

Four of us arrived that evening without a reservation and were lucky to get a table in the back of the restaurant. It was extremely loud, making normal conversation a challenge. The service was excellent, fast, and very friendly. The food came pretty quickly, too. I had the pulled pork with hash browns, which I apparently had the wrong idea about, as they were under the pile of meat and were soggy as a result. It tasted okay, but I wouldn't order it again. The others' schnitzels were good, and the portions were sufficient. The draft beer tasted good.

Food was great! Service attentive, nice and quick. It was a bit crowded, however food came fast. If you don't mind a bit of noise, it's a grear place to eat.

I haven't been there in years, but not much has changed, and that's a good thing. The Wirtshaus Romantik is still there, but nothing looks worn or unkempt. Even though we didn't have a reservation, we were allowed to sit at one of the reserved tables. The menu is straightforward and befitting a local restaurant. The daily specials didn't appeal to me that much. So I opted for Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle). They were well-prepared and delicious. I'd be happy to come back.

I had napkin dumplings and Kaiserschmarrn for dessert. Both were excellent. The staff was also very friendly. I felt very comfortable. I'll be back and can only recommend it.

They say it's from 1885—I mean, that's crazy! The schnitzel is probably the best you can get in Karlsruhe! It's worth the extra cost to change the spaetzle to cheese spaetzle. It's well worth it with a wheat beer.

The most beautiful spot in Karlsruhe – with a beer garden to match. At least when the neighbors aren't too loud (but no star deducted for the ambiance, because Wolfsbräu isn't to blame). The interior is as cozy as only a traditional pub can be. A diverse crowd with many regulars. Great service and honest, good food at fair prices. The best fries in Karlsruhe, and the fries too. I guess I'm often there twice a week... It's great that you exist!

The food was lukewarm...and the pizza wasn't what you'd expect for the price. The beer, at €5.20, was too expensive. The atmosphere, surrounded by junkies and drunks who were constantly shouting, ruined the evening. The service, however, was friendly and attentive. I can't recommend this pub.

The burgers were delicious! However, a burger WITHOUT a side dish costs €12.90, and the side dish is extra, which is quite expensive. The service was friendly. They brought water for the dog without us having to ask, which I found very thoughtful. Everything was very quick, and the prices are quite reasonable.

An excellent pub in the heart of the city. The service is great. I was here yesterday and today. Yesterday just for a beer. Today I ate. Very tasty brewery cuisine. Highly recommended. On some days you have to make a reservation. Today I sat at a table with a few guys I didn't know, just to get a seat. It's a lot of fun here.

We were at the Karlsruhe Zoo and were looking for good, home-style cooking, and we found it. It's not far from the zoo, within walking distance. The food is a bit pricey but good. The beer garden is nice, the restrooms are in a very old building. The service is friendly. The street leading to the inn takes a bit of getting used to in terms of the crowd. Unfortunately, the beer garden is also there. We sat closer to the inn, in the middle. We're from the village, so we don't have anything like that here. But if that's okay with that, you can eat well there. We had sausage salad and schnitzel. 👍

I wasn't impressed. The service and location were good. But at €9 for a slice of chocolate cake with a scoop of ice cream, the only thing that should be frozen is the ice cream.

I regularly recommend Wolfsbräu to my own customers, as I work in the Südstadt district myself. We've held our Christmas parties here over the past few years and have, all in all, always been satisfied. Unfortunately, this time I have to offer some balanced criticism after the service has repeatedly disappointed me somewhat. Specifically, it was a certain server. As someone with service experience, I know that the job can be stressful, especially on a Friday evening in the summer. What I don't have to be understanding, however, is when the server suggestively insinuates that I lied on the bill. Specifically, I ordered a beer and a meal. The drink never arrived, the food was there, and when I asked for it, the beer came fairly quickly; no problem at all... Until, when I was paying the bill, I was told I'd ordered two beers, which I wanted to correct. Even as I was searching for the tip (cash payment), I could feel her visibly annoyed, unable to fully hide her frustration, and commented. (Stressful days can happen.) However, the only right option here would have been to remain friendly and accept the situation without comment in order to ensure good service and a good customer experience. After all, one beer isn't worth it if it determines whether I come back or send someone else over, right? As a waiter, I would have paid for the incorrectly tipped beer with my tip and left it at that. For me, these are the details that show me whether the waiter understood the restaurant business or not. The previous time, the same person reminded me about the tip when paying with a card. I'm not a fan of tip culture, but I'm happy to give it myself, but I don't need to be reminded, and I don't really find it pleasant! Unfortunately, the prices have also risen significantly, but the quality is still consistently good. It would simply be nice if people here would take a closer look at some of these issues... Of course, I'll still give Wolf a chance and will happily adjust my review accordingly!

We had a really good time at Wirtshaus Wolfbräu. They have vegetarian burgers and large Flammkuchen. The drinks and the atmosphere on a pleasant summer night were absolutely a treat. However, I would rather imagine the burgers being served with a side of fries without having to order them as extra. The desserts are also a bit overpriced. All in all, we enjoyed our time there

Went back to Wolfbräu after a long time – young, friendly service, good food (just the schnitzel was a bit dry), and the beer in the pitcher was nice and cold and tasty. We'll be back – maybe the schnitzel from the pan is better!

Hello dear Wolf team, I've had the schnitzel with fries here several times, and it was always good. However, last time I got a frozen schnitzel from the deep fryer. The portion was also significantly smaller than I'm used to at your place. I have to say, I find that very unfortunate and hope you don't downsize elsewhere as well.

Both the Braumeister pan and the napkin dumplings were absolutely fantastic. The food was delivered super quickly. There was no wait for a table (2 people), and the staff was very friendly and accommodating.

I was there on vacation in March and, as a flexitarian, wanted to test at least one restaurant's vegetarian offerings. I was very satisfied with the meal, vegetarian Maultaschen with salad, as the selection of vegetarian dishes was large, the portion was large, the price was fair and it was as simple as it was ingenious. I was also very satisfied with the service, as both the service and the menu treated vegetarian food completely normally. On the menu, vegetarian food was listed under classics and not in a separate category, but dishes that were vegetarian or vegan were still marked separately and since I was still unsure, the waitress naturally asked if I would like to eat vegetarian. The atmosphere was okay because I was afraid of the drunk people outside on the square and the rooms inside are sometimes very dark. Overall I was very satisfied, but I wouldn't want to sit outside.
