Der Auflauf in Würzburg

I arrive. The place is booked twice, and the service and kitchen are already under pressure. The bartender simply hurries my order into the stressed kitchen. Since they're super fast, I get a table even though there are no more available. The first beer isn't finished in a minute, and I get a second one. The food arrives perfectly, despite being at capacity. The waiter doesn't ignore me as a single person, despite being at capacity, and asks if everything's okay, smiling. The Auflauf is a cozy little restaurant—not a Michelin-starred restaurant, yet everything is perfect. Everything is first-class. Thank you for the short but lovely time. It made my evening better. Rare and simply wonderful.

Actually, it's a really great place. We had two tagliatelle pasta casseroles. It's a shame they didn't have more of the other ingredients we ordered; we had to hunt for the mushrooms. Nevertheless, the quality is very good and I highly recommend it.

We went without a reservation, but luckily, there was a seat, and the staff was quick to assist. It's the perfect place to eat Auflauf, one of the best dishes in German cuisine. You can create your own meal, meaning you can choose the ingredients and order your meal however you like. This is really well thought out, and you can also choose traditional dishes. The homemade lemonade was also good. The staff was very helpful and friendly.

A little outside the city center. A cozy restaurant with antique furniture. It feels like home. Each casserole at lunch costs €9.90. We had Kasspatzn (cheese spaetzle), which were unfortunately very dry. A little vegetable broth and cream would have improved the dish.

"Der Auflass – Würzburg's Secret Comfort Food" Sometimes you stumble upon a place that simply does everything right. "Der Auflass" is one of those places. The selection? Huge. The combinations? Cleverer than many a chef on TV. My "Fuego" casserole was a damn work of art – a perfect blend of everything, and yes, I did taste the spice. That usually happens to me about as often as winning the lottery. The original creation with the available ingredients? Also a hit. A small dent in the gloss: The lemon soda was rather meh, and the outdoor seating is a bit reminiscent of "waiting room with a view." But the service? Unfortunately, I can only give two stars because my meal was truly terrible. The cheese was very dry and burnt in places. The casserole was then put back in the oven to serve again. Unfortunately, the cheese was still dry the second time, and the casserole had almost no sauce. The people at the next table were very happy with their dishes. Apparently, I was just unlucky, but mine wasn't good nonetheless. The wait of over an hour was also completely unacceptable in my opinion. To compensate for the burnt cheese, the drink was on the house. However, the whole meal would have been better, as I barely ate any of it. It's a real shame.

Unfortunately, I got food poisoning here yesterday. I was fine before my visit on June 22nd. Unfortunately, I wasn't after the meal. I hadn't eaten or drunk anything else for half the day before the visit, so I had no prior complaints. But as soon as we left the restaurant and reached the adjacent courtyard garden, my stomach suddenly churned and I felt queasy. I then spent hours in the bathroom. My meal also contained highly perishable ingredients (chicken, coconut milk, etc.). At home, we inspected the leftovers and noticed that the sauce had a sour taste, something I hadn't noticed with hot food. You wouldn't expect it. The coconut milk had apparently already expired. On a Sunday shortly after opening, our order was possibly prepared with coconut milk from the previous day. Since I had neither a fever nor vomiting, and my body simply wanted to get rid of what I had eaten quickly, a virus is out of the question. I don't have any food intolerances and often cook with the same ingredients. The service was excellent, but the fact that my dish wasn't prepared with fresh ingredients is a no-go. You read about experiences like this every now and then in Google reviews, but it's never happened to me in 30 years. Not even at the cheapest fast-food chains.

The value for money is top-notch! The decor is super cute, the portions are generous, and the prices are very fair! You can enjoy a cozy evening with an absolutely delicious casserole :)

After 20 years, I returned to Würzburg and ate here again. The staff was still friendly and the food was just as good as before. The value for money was very good.

A chilled, quiet spot a bit off the beaten track with a fabulously delicious selection of casseroles. Every single variation is incredibly delicious – absolutely every single one! The service is extremely friendly, fast, and kind of fun. Plenty of parking nearby. Prices are absolutely reasonable and on the affordable side. Why didn't I come here much sooner?

I was there on Sunday at 12:02 and there was only one table left. Everything else was reserved, so it's best to call ahead before you don't get a table. I had the Mediterranean tarte flambée and a small passion fruit spritzer. The waiter was very nice, the manager (?), who was also working on his laptop, was there in sweatpants, a bit odd but okay.

I go out to eat to enjoy something special - something I wouldn't make at home. Unfortunately, the vegan "Goucho" did not meet my expectations. In terms of taste, the dish was far from an experience; it was somewhat filling, but that was it. The ribbon noodles were overcooked and the soy granules seemed to have just been softened in broth and added directly to the casserole dish. However, when I expressed my criticism when asked - namely that the granules should be squeezed out and fried better - I didn't have the feeling that my opinion was met with any interest. At least: The spiciness of the dish was good and corresponded to what was described on the menu. A big compliment goes to the service staff! The employees were attentive, friendly and regularly present - that's what we get 5 stars for. However, the background noise was less pleasant. The small room made it very loud and a normal conversation at room volume was hardly possible. In addition, the reservation time was limited to two hours, which I personally find a shame. Constantly looking at the clock to clear the table in time takes away from the comfort of the meal. This practice is probably common in many downtown restaurants, but it also led to noticeable unrest from arriving and departing guests. What should be highlighted positively, however, is that the service staff informed us shortly before the time was up that the next guests would not arrive until 30 minutes later - so we were able to extend our stay a little. Conclusion: Great service, but unfortunately the food wasn't convincing.

This store, I love it. It accompanied me throughout my entire time at university, I've dragged so many friends there, they all love it. After every exam, in stressful times, having a snack with friends & family, or eating a casserole, you can always find a comfort place with soul food!!! 🥹✨❤️ No matter where I lived, even in Hamburg, there is nothing comparable. Apart from the fact that the idea and the food are simply unbelievably cool, the price-performance ratio is unbeatable. But the casserole is simply more than just a food spot, we come here so often and you feel so comfortable, the atmosphere is reminiscent of grandma's kitchen in a positive sense and I love that all ages can be found there. It's just so cozy and we love it! The casserole will forever remain among my top food spots & even if I no longer live in Würzi, I'll be back :)) Thanks for this great experience! 🍀

Delicious casseroles of many kinds. There were four of us here and we had different casseroles; one tastier than the other. The portions are huge; I didn't finish my "Acropolis" and am looking forward to a delicious dinner with the rest. The service is friendly, attentive and very accommodating. In short: highly recommended! And we're probably not the only ones who see it that way, because even on Saturday lunchtime the restaurant was full to the last seat and there were still people waiting in front of the door for a free seat.

Very loud because the room is very small. The food came very late because there was a lot going on. What was annoying was that we only had 1.5 hours because the table was reallocated afterwards. We were denied dessert because we only had 15 minutes left and wouldn't be able to do it in that time frame anyway.

Reservations seem to be useful as they were very full both times we passed by recently. We decided to do take-away and enjoyed a delicious Vendura vegetarian casserole back in our apartment rental. The casserole was nicely packaged for take-away and remained hot for over half and hour. It tasted great. We also tried their Der Vegane flammkuchen, which was shaped like a classic pizza with with the signature wafer thin crust of tarte flambe. It was good as well. Would gladly dine at Der Auflauf or do take-away to enjoy in the comfort of rental apartment again next time we are in Würzburg.

The atmosphere is nice and cozy and the food is absolutely delicious! I had one of the suggested casseroles and it was a treat :) The large version was more than enough, you could have the rest packed up. The only drawback: it took quite a long time for the food to arrive. However, the service was super nice, so it's still 5/5 stars :) Dogs are also allowed, a big plus for us!

Our food tasted very good. You could see the individual preparation of the dishes. The service was good and attentive. Unfortunately, the gnocci in my casserole were not homemade, which deducts a point. We can highly recommend this restaurant. It is cozy, the service is pleasant and friendly, the toilets are clean and the location is good and quiet. The selection of dishes is exceptional. Especially if you have allergies or intolerances and can put together your own dishes. There are classic casseroles, vegetarian and vegan. Since the dishes are really freshly put together, this is not a fast food restaurant. The wait is worth it. This shouldn't be seen as a negative thing, as we were served our food hot after about 30 minutes. That's completely ok. We'd love to come back. I have marked this spot for future visits to Würzburg. e.g. K. I have been to Würzburg more than 15 times and am glad to have discovered this restaurant.

Restaurant with very varied food. We ordered casseroles from the menu with many options and we ended up delighted. The waiter, Bastian, was very friendly and approachable. It wasn't that expensive for how delicious everything was, and how good the service was.

Very nice service, a bit of a long wait and if the food is spicy, you should mention it on the menu just to be on the safe side. The Neanderthal is not for a day with around 30 degrees, unless you really want to eat spicy food.
