Deichhaus Wesel in Wesel

A tragedy! We were there on opening day and were thrilled. We gave it a ☆☆☆☆☆ for everything. We wanted to become regulars for the schnitzel. We've been back in the last few days. What happened here? You walk in and you're struck by the thought: what chaos? Holes in the tables, all sorts of stuff on the counter that definitely doesn't belong in a dining room, oppressive silence, no life. The waitress, I wasn't sure if she had noticed us on the other side of the counter, skillfully ignored us. It was also kind of chaotic behind the counter: two people chatting, one working very diligently. We then placed our order, whereupon the schnitzel was drowned in the fryer oil. Out of the fryer, onto the plate, with each cut of what was otherwise a wonderful butcher's schnitzel, the amount of fryer oil increased. You could certainly do it in a deep fryer, but not like this. Those pathetic fries deserved better. They had no chance of transforming into wonderful, crispy fries. I only ate half of them. What's going on here? Where is this enthusiasm, this self-assurance that I'm in good hands here, that I feel at home here? What a shame, a missed opportunity! For us too, because we wanted to eat here every day during our vacation.

As a newcomer to Grav Island, two signs will jump out at you on the front of the main building. On one there is a snack bar and on the other there is a tavern. Unfortunately, the snack bar was already closed around 7:30 p.m. and somehow there was no food in the inn. When we asked one of the young ladies who came to our table after what seemed like an eternity, we were told that there had been a barbecue outside and that we could eat there. Probably because of the Easter campaign. Outside at the “grill stand” there was a sad picture. An estimated 50 pre-grilled sausages in one watmerie and 10 meatballs in the next. Next to it is a basket with rolls. That was the incredible selection of the inn. The bratwurst was lukewarm and miles away from being freshly grilled. My wife had the meatball in the bun. For a pub on Germany's largest campsite, I find this absolutely underground and absolutely incomprehensible given the mass of staff that stood behind the counter.

After a long time, on April 7th, 2024, we visited the Deichhaus, Gravinsel 1, 46487 Wesel, as a stopover on a Lower Rhine bicycle tour. About the food: I ordered a large salad plate (€11.90) with chicken strips (€4.50) for a total of €16.40. I had the impression that it was a salad mix like the kind you get as a ready-made salad at Aldi. The chicken strips were also of poor quality with a high fat content. So, no home-fried chicken breast strips and home-made salad, but everything made from inferior finished products. And the whole thing for 16.40 euros. About the service: friendly service. Was ok. Ambiance: The boss of the restaurant (he was addressed as boss) actually drove to the slightly higher terrace where the drinks and food were served. He stopped his car only about 1 meter behind my wife's back, who was about to jump up in shock. Not to load or load anything, but out of pure convenience! We will never sit on this terrace again. Compared to before, the restaurant can no longer be recommended.

Very tasty and high quality food!!! Perfectly prepared. The staff is friendly, attentive and very warm. Simply recommended!!!!

Good snack for campers. But it changes hands all the time :-D

Recommended on Fridays: Schnitzel Buffet

Well, a larger hall for a celebration on an even larger campsite. Friendly service at the entrance, including the barriers. Grassy parking. Watch out in the rain! The hall itself has the feel of a market or exhibition hall. The restrooms smelled strongly of urine... The acoustics in the hall are terrible. We didn't eat anything there, so I can't comment on that.

We liked the restaurant. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The staff was nice and friendly.

Klaus Wehner took over the “Deichhaus Wesel” in October 2022 and opened it as “Deichhaus Gravinsel”. Since May 2023, he has also been offering seasonal lunch delivery services. Varied, very tasty home cooking at a fair price. We are thrilled. During today's visit to the inn, the food was again very tasty and the service was very attentive and friendly. The website probably hasn't been updated yet, but you can find out about current opening times, events, daily specials, etc. in the public Facebook group "Deichhaus Gravinsel". We always enjoy coming back and wish you continued success.

We came by on our bikes to have two barley cold drinks and were greeted very nicely. Great service where you feel completely comfortable. Unfortunately, this is no longer a given, thank you

Wir waren 2 Tage in Folge dort essen. Steak,Bratkartoffeln, Schnitzel und Jägersoße. Es hat sehr gut geschmeckt. Wir kommen gerne wieder. Preis Leistung Top!

Mit dem neuem Wirt und seinem freundlichen Team hat sich das Deichhaus sehr geändert. Man sollte keine Sterneküche erwarten, aber die angebotenen Speisen sind frisch und sehr schmackhaft zubereiten. Der Koch versteht etwas von Gewürzen/frischen Kräutern, die Karte ist klein aber fein. Ich hatte einen schönen Weißwein zu meiner Salatplatte. Wir kommen mit Freunden wieder!

Nettes Personal...wir waren zur happy hour dort zum Cocktails trinken, sehr lecker und die Preise top👍.

Cocktails sind lecker, und auch Preislich okay, bei Happy hour. Teilweise lange Wartezeit. Essen Standard. Man kann aber schön Abends sitzen.

Ist eher ein Imbiss als ein Restaurant. Für ein Campingplatz dieser Größe hab ich ein Restaurant erwartet indem gekocht wird. Kein Formfleisch mit Fertigsoßen. Verdienen wohl mehr an Cocktails. Scheint das Hauptgeschäft zu sein.

Besser wo anders. 1 stern für das Ambiente und 1 für den Kellner der zumimdest bemüht war. Eine Stunde warten für ein Essen in maximal einfacher Pommes Buden Qualität. Barkeeper schenkt in beckleckertem t-shirt aus und die musik wird durch werbung unterbrochen. Höchst unprofessionell mit die preise für die leistung sind wie die pommes stark gesalzen sind.

Wenn man sich vorher informiert und dann die zusätzliche Schnitzelkarte bekommt, gibt’s sogar gutes Schnitzel…. Nehmt die Pommes/ die Bratkartoffeln haben die Pfanne nur gesehen… Vorspeisen sollte man hier nicht überbewerten- es sei man mag z.B. getrockneten Rucola. Kann/ MUSS aber nicht sein. Wir hatten einen Spar-Gutschein vom lokalen Radiosender - Fazit: zum Glück ist der jetzt wech ….🫣

Immer wieder gerne hier. Ist zu empfehlen.
