Best chicken Sandwich in town. Beautiful interior.

The fries are great because they are double fried. Unfortunately, the rest tasted of nothing.

If you enjoy a casual, laid-back atmosphere, this is the place. But overall, it’s pretty mediocre. The chicken with rice was decent—the only reason I’m giving it 4 stars. Croquettes or what, it was not tasty at all. The seating was uncomfortable, and you have to place your belongings in a basket.

My expectations were the way higher. The interior and graphic design are ultimately good. The food is very unhealthy. You smell the fried oil once you entered and this smell of fries is everywhere. Everything you order is double friend. You have nothing to order if you count calories except the salad. The fried potato bites were super spicy. The cold tea was over sweated. Stylish but doesn’t suit my diet preferences.

Tricky to judge this as I tried the curry only but will be back to try some more items. I ordered the curry with chicken katsu. Really liked the chicken, but the sauce was too sweet for 'my personal liking'. Needless to say, it was a good sauce that I imagine many people liking! The portion was filling for one, and the presentation was lovely. Food came quickly, so they definitely hit the 'diner' mark.

It's good if you want to eat Berlin style. But it's not good value for money and it's not authentic Japanese. It makes the coffee, but we leave a little disappointed. Especially since I was gently forced to leave a tip

That was a somewhat jaw dropping experience - please admire attached photo that displays tamago sandwich: two pieces of toast with a hardboiled egg and egg paste in-between; surely a direct import from egg-crisis ridden U.S.A., which would justify staggering 10.5€ I paid for this culinary experience😂. But seriously: never before in my life have I experienced such low quality coupled with such high price. Hashtag do!not!recommend!.

One of our colleagues (María☺️) recommended this place for a dinner with work colleagues and we absolutely loved it. It had a special energy. And the food was very nice, they brought all dishes extremely fast! I kind of felt as if we were dining 30 years before in Twin Peaks, haha. Will be coming back when in Berlin. Beware that the space is limited though, just in case you’d like to plan your visit in advance or come sooner/later. Hugs from Spain 💛

This is 'Szechuan meets Japanese' place! Fun food. If you are not good at spicy food, please make sure if it is ok for you. But in general it uses Szechuan sauce mildly. Their croquet (Korroke, in Japanese) is vegetable croquet, nicely fried and good taste. Their Katsu Sand comes with slight spicy vegetable in the sandwich, which matches very well to the cutlet, and we loved it. We shared one sandwich but it is not a large portion. 'dashi' in Japanese means 'soup stock' and that is why we didn't notice this place servicing such a lovely menu. Its location is near Naturalkundemuseum U Bahn station and in that area, it is quite a good eatery.

Disappointed, the Cesar salad doesn’t have Parmesan or anything relevant to cost 9 eur. It’s a TikTok trap.

The food was good. One employee's service was good, but another's service left something to be desired. And the lemon juice was really bad.

Very cool venue with an upscale diner feel. The Caesar salad was my favorite and is something I have a hard time finding good versions of in Berlin. We had the chicken and egg sandwiches which were both delicious. Staff was friendly and we were served pretty quickly after ordering which is appreciated when visiting during the lunch hour on a weekday.

The chicken conggee was such a heartwarming meal, delicious! The melon granita was also so fresh and unique. The interior design is also cozy and rare in Germany. Would visit again!

Really good, authentic but not uncreative food at largely decent prices, really cool ambiance, very friendly staff... Love a place with this tight a branding, super cool!

Unfortunately we were really disappointed with the food overall. The ambience and furnishings are very nice, hence 3 stars instead of 2. The Tamago Sando (Japanese egg salad sandwich) was really disappointing. A lot of mayonnaise and pickles and therefore very runny, very little egg. And not soft-boiled, as described, but hard egg. And if you look at other reviews, there are also pictures of a real sandwich in which the filling doesn't leak and there's no old hard-boiled egg, so there seems to be a lot of variation in quality. The Chicken Sando wasn't really anything special for the price either. The two sandwiches weren't served at the same time, the tamago came much later, which I can't understand with a cold sandwich. The Szechuan fries were our “highlight”, they were really extremely good. Overall, as other reviews suggest, the food (and the service) unfortunately didn't do justice to the price or the great interior, or at least we thought so.

Super delicious food and fair prices

I really like the atmosphere at Dashi and always try to eat there before I leave Berlin by train. The service is always friendly and accommodating. The drinks are super delicious, the desserts are great! Not all of the dishes on the menu were consistently good - congee was sometimes too thick or not hot - but everything was still within a good range and mostly top.

Best experience ever! The staff super friendly and the service and food outstanding. You gotta be there early because it might happen that they run out of items offered in the menu. Everything is very tasty and the overall experience 10/10.

I had the Korokke Curry and a Traditional Winter Melon Iced Tea. It was served very quickly. Overall, it was OK. The curry was tasty, but I would have expected a bit more vegetables or sliced cabbage, as two slices of carrot, a spoonful of cabbage and a spoonful of spring onion were about it. Of course, there was the delicious rice and two croquettes to go with it. The iced tea had a lot of jelly cubes, making it hard to drink, but it came with a spoon for the jelly cubes so that worked out.

DASHI Diner is now our trust spot if we want to go out and have a good dinner in a nice and comfy place. Pork belly, curry, chicken katsu or fries are some of our favs dishes 🤍

It is a super overrated place. Everything was cold. The chicken sando was too dry, and the pork belly was just okay. Cold fries? No comments. The melon granita came with fresh melon, but the melon itself wasn’t tasty—too watery. The staff was nice, but I agree with other reviewers about the strong smell of chlorine 😵‍💫.

I was there alone for dinner last night. Ambiance is very nice, clear, tidy concept. Atmosphere was good too. Service was magical. The food also tasted good, but unfortunately I upset my stomach and am lying flat all day today. I had a Caesar salad with katsu and Japanese croquettes with dipping sauce. Everything tastes OK, but apparently not completely hygienic. As I was leaving the store, I saw two kitchen employees sitting on the worktops in the kitchen without any (work clothes) uniform, i.e. chef's jacket, etc. Not exactly charming when employees sit on the kitchen table in sweatpants instead of cleaning the kitchen at the end of the day. I am aware that you can always have bad luck and upset your stomach. However, I don't like paying to lie in bed with stomach cramps while probably untrained copyists sit around in the kitchen in sweatpants on stainless steel furniture. I would like HACCP to be implemented better here.

Food is good but just not worth the money, it’s too expensive for the quality and presentation

A diner that hopefully stays. Pleasant, bright atmosphere with a view of Invalidenstrasse. Beautiful wood paneling inside. The chicken sandwich is excellent, incredibly tender, in a fluffy brioche with a nice slightly sour sauce and fresh carrots. Be careful of the large portion of French fries alone: ​​combined with the Sando, it's too much. A smaller portion would be desirable.

We ordered the fries, korokke curry, chicken congee and chicken katsu sando. The fries had extra batter on them which didn't make for the most pleasant texture and didn't allow for the nori salt flavour to come through. We appreciate they were hand cut but overall it was only just okay. The korokke curry was unlike any Japanese curry we've ever had in Japan or any iteration outside of Japan. While it wasn't specified as being Japanese, it was implied by calling it a korokke curry. It tasted heavily of tomato and sweet vinegar, similar to ketchup. Again not terrible but definitely not to our liking. The chicken katsu sando, like the curry wasn't typical of a Japanese sando. While it was okay, it tasted more like a chicken schnitzel sandwich. I understand it's a modern interpretation of traditional flavours but when the end result is worse off, it might be time to revaluate your choices. The chicken congee (not pictured) unfortunately was the worst of all. The texture was thick and gluggy and tasted overwhelmingly of salt. This could have easily been fixed by adding more stock to help both the flavour and texture. The drinks were okay and the staff was very pleasant. They gave us a new bowl of congee after a fly fell (and died) into our original bowl. Unfortunately our overall experience was disappointing. The food is not worth what you pay for.

Delicious food and great service.

I could recommend this place a year ago. Unfortunately not anymore… The food preparation quality is just not there.

The food was actually delicious but unfortunately we had to find a soaked paper towel in our salad. After discreetly informing the service, we were offered a free dessert. But that was then forgotten. We then left. Too bad.

The portions were small, food was forgotten, the staff was unfriendly, it smelled of chlorine. The examples in the menu sounded completely different than the food looked. It still tasted okay, but we went further to another restaurant because we weren't full.

I came here because I saw many other reviews praising the chicken katsu - and I was very much disappointed. There’s no way to spin it, that’s no katsu. The curry tasted ok but the spices mix wasn’t a standard Japanese one and overall it wasn’t the right thickness either. The only reason why I’m not giving it even less stars is that it was edible in the end, and the staff was ok.

Really cool and relaxed little diner with great dishes. Absolutely fair in price and great in taste. I saw the DASHI as a recommendation on YouTube and was absolutely not disappointed.

An overall good experience with a few faults. The food was mostly great. For appetizers we had the korokke which was appropriately crispy outside and warm and pillowy inside, the chicken katsu was alright (wish there was a pork option) and the tonkatsu sauce was nice. The mains where all very good: the braised pork was super tender and the coca cola sauce was rich with a punchy and deep flavour. The surprise of the evening was the chicken congee, which I never had, but was pleasently surprised how good it was. Warm, comforting, delicious with the fluffy quẩy/youtiao dough sticks on the side to contrast the soft texture was perfect. The desserts: the mango sago was fine, a bit rare and bland for my taste. The brownie was warm, sweet and overall a good dessert, but nothing to write home about. The worst part was the service, while being very friendly, nice and amiable, the servers were very confused. Every dish came out of order and the service members had to be reminded and informed of what we ordered because they forgot everything, for every course. So there were prolongued periods of time where some of us waited trying to figure out what’s going on, while the others were already served, until we decided to act and ask. To sum up, nothing terrible and as said before, an overall satisfying and enjoyable experience. Maybe some of the employees were just starting out and don’t know how things work yet so I wouldn’t hold it against them and would gladly come and dine here again.

I loved that they had vegan/vegetarian options! The fries are a must have! And the ambiance and vibe of the restaurant are also on point!

Honestly, I’m really disappointed. The brand looks great on Instagram, but when I actually came to dine in, the lighting and atmosphere felt really weird and totally different from the photos online. As for the food, it was pretty underwhelming—especially the pork belly, which was super dry and tough. The mains didn’t meet my expectations, though the drinks were okay. Overall, I was quite let down and wouldn’t recommend dining here⋯⋯

What I like about this place how simple their menu is. No fuss, just a few items. This small diner is located at a corner intersection which was very convenient. Place is small so our group was divided into two tables. Food price was affordable too. Staff were friendly and the service was fast. Food was amazing, I ordered tofu congee and did not disappoint plus side of small chicken cutlet. Their servings was plenty and filling. If you want a quick bite this is the place to go!

Summary: absolute umami explosion with friendly at the counter service and beautiful interpretation of a diner with wooden paneling Dishes (- negative / = ok / + positive): + Korokke curry: oh my god, what an umami explosion; the curry sauce is delicious, intense and full-bodied; great also for vegans as the curry is vegan; the only slight negative is the Kraut served along, I think it has upside potential + the potato croquettes: delicious and juicy; I normally stay far away from croquettes because they’re generally dry, but not here; I’m happy I had them and didn’t opt out + chicken katsu: i topped up the curry with chicken katsu. It is delicious with a nice crunch and well-seasoned with their lemony and refreshing teriyaki sauce, luckily not too much sauce Service: + friendly service at the counter; order at the counter and the food is served Price: = a bit pricey especially for a lunch at €20.5 without a drink but the price for value is fair Atmosphere: + beautiful and stylish modern interpretation of a diner with wooden paneling

fries and lemonade were nice, but the tempeh sandwich unfortunately was extremely bland, weirdly sour and dry. maybe the other food items are better, but i would not go here for sandwiches. having waiters but ordering at an ipad is weird too.

Gorgeous interior, amazing service, ambitious food. Dashi is very curated, starting with its almost immaculate interior, which is kept very neat and tidy by the staff. The cleanliness of the space has to be commended. The atmosphere is very relaxing with the bustling kitchen being open for view but still tucked away behind the counter. Seating space is limited, bit difficult for large groups. Since they don’t take reservations, I would avoid rush times like lunch. Food isn’t anything super special. The item are all well cooked, prepared and styled. The commitment to the aesthetic is very clear but also a bit wasted since the food isn’t that innovative. In general the menu which ranges from Vietnamese style congee to Szechuan fries and HK mango sago is a bit confusing. Not much Japanese food besides the curry- which isn’t life changing. If you’re looking for Japanese food dashi isn’t the place to go. Again it’s well prepared and served but not as grand as you might expect. The concept of the store is interesting but not well executed. Seems like big mash up of sea asian cuisine, lukewarm curry and a random Caesar salad. The staff are very nice and accommodating. Very attentive, and friendly. Service is quick and professional. - A big thank you to Quinn and Hani!!

Love, love this place!!! It serves a great variation of Japanese fusion kitchen- each dish is special and very tasty. I recommend the Tempeh Sandwich, the Szechuan fries and the Korokke :) Apart from that the interior design is very cool. Last but not least: the service is great and super friendly!

The first few things we had here were good but the tempeh sando was inedible and extremely sour. We tried to talk about it to the staff but they at first shrugged it off, so we ate the bread because it was ok and we were hungry. Then we tried to talk about it to the other staff member and they were incredibly rude and argued with us about it, saying we had taken one to many bites and that we were wrong. On top of this they then laughed at us on the way out. Was such a weird and bad experience. They make you pay for the food beforehand so they don’t need any responsibility after you buy it. I don’t often write reviews but this was just so offensive and disrespectful and I wouldn’t recommend anyone to go here.

I'm really sorry. I called 20 times and no one answered. I packed the chicken curry rice, but when I got home I was very hungry and only had rice when I opened it. I originally wanted to call and ask how to solve the problem, but the call kept being refused. I've been promoting your store on instagram and always tip a lot, it's really disappointing!

Our favorite Japanese diner spot. Can only review the tempeh sandwich and double fried fries bc it’s so good can’t bear to order anything else.

Small, chic restaurant. The pork belly is very good. The sauce is excellent. I can recommend. Kimchi has just the right amount of spiciness. The onions taste good too. The radish wasn't really my thing. For €17 I found the portion a bit small. There are better shops there. Nevertheless, you can still do it. To drink I had the Winter Melon ICE Tea. Since I didn't know what winter melon was, I went in expecting it to be more along the lines of ICE tea. That wasn't the case. Winter melon is a type of pumpkin. The taste wasn't really my thing. The jelly beads were quite tasteless. I wouldn't get that drink again.

One of the best Ceasar's I had, great chicken katsu. Will definitely come back to try the rest of the menu!

I would have liked to give 5/5 stars because the food and service were excellent, the only drawback: unfortunately our sandwich was first served in moldy bread, but after our complaint the entire dish was replaced and an extra side dish and a dessert were served for free with repeated apologies from the waitress. Without this good handling of the situation, I would probably have given fewer stars because the people sitting next to us had the same problem with their food, which shouldn't happen like that. Nevertheless, I think this is an exception and would have no hesitation in recommending the establishment to anyone looking for something good to eat.

Cool concept, it's been on my list of restaurants I want to go to for a long time. Drinks were really tasty, the food tasted good too but the rice was from the bottom drawer, so if you mess it up the whole dish is ruined in my opinion. Well, maybe we just had a bad day.

The food is delicious, the fries are delicious, the lemon-flavored mayonnaise is delicious, if everything is good and the staff is very friendly, you can ask for a chair for small children. In general, it is good.

We all have been amazed by the IG aesthetic of this place! but… if you have ever been either to Japan or China, you’ll know that the taste is not nearly matching the flavours you could experience there. The curry was way too sweet (could be some sort of curry ketchup) and not even spicy, the fries should really taste like Sichuan pepper (I mean it’s the whole point of this spice) and the Sando was dry. Well, if you want to try a real curry or Sando, just avoid this place, you’ll save some money. Service and staff were really nice though!

Really good Korokke+Katsu Curry, 5-stars for that alone. The braised pork belly was hit and miss with half my pieces being dry and the other half being juicy. It was probably supposed to be reminiscent of Kakuni, but it was cut a bit thin from how I have had Kakuni in the past and how I prefer my Kakuni. But again, that Katsu 🤌

The best curry I have ever eaten in my life! In a truly crafted setting, with an eye for detail. I ate a katsu curry it was delicious!!! The staff is smiling and attentive, I really recommend this place, it could be a good idea for a date :)

Heavenly good service, interiors, and foods!!! I personally liked the iconic chicken katsu sando the most. The bread was giving authentic 食パン　(shoku-pan) and the chicken cutlet was so flavorful. Don’t miss trying their melon granita not just for the aesthetic but also for the taste.

Probably the best pork belly in Berlin. The meat is super soft and melts in your mouth. The sides complement the dish perfectly and I had a winter melon iced tea with it. Very refreshing! From now on I'll be coming every week! Very nice atmosphere too!

Curry is more like soup and very salty. 26 Euro for curry rice with chicken katsu and a drink is too much. Wintermelon tea was 4.50 Euros and taste like classic 1 Euro canned wintermelon tea. Not worth the price.

Really great shop! We were there with the children after a visit to the zoo and were given a very friendly welcome. We had a few questions about the dishes and they were answered very competently. We then followed the recommendation. The food came super quickly and was delicious! The children were treated to a melon granita and were very happy too! We'll be happy to come back on our next visit to Berlin!

Delicious food, great service, lovely atmosphere

I came for the Melon-Shake and went happy with memories of my favourite childhood popsicle in Korea - the Melona. The brownie was sizzling and perfectly fudgy as well. The katsu sando was yummy but did lack a bit of punch in my personal opinion. I'd surely visit again during my next stay in Berlin and can safely suggest you to try it out as well!

The chicken congee was flavorful but the youtiao and chicken were so hard like a refried and recooked leftover. The Sichuan fries was mediocre. The chicken katsu did not taste like an original. The curry was nothing Japanese. The wintermelon tea tasted like grass jelly poured straight out of a canned one including all the water. Nothing special about the food, definitely overpriced and not returning anymore.

Unfortunately, it's not even mediocre anymore. The concept and interior are highlights. Unfortunately the food and price are not right. Sand in the salad and the chicken is rather dry and loveless. Using leg meat would be much more appealing, the breast is quite dry and the frying is also better. With such a small menu and dishes with few components, I expect more. Fries aren't convincing either... I was looking forward to the visit for a long time. I wouldn't come again.

The toilets are clean, the food is delicious and the service is very nice. I would go there again.

Food was delicious. Staff was lovely. There is an absurd amount of dust on the lamp that hangs over the table and is directly above the food. If we had come against it and breathed in that direction it would have fallen into the food. You may not see it in the picture. The other tables and guests looked dust-free. :)

A visit to Dashi is highly recommended! The ambience is nice and quiet, the furnishings are simple and tasteful. We tried the entire menu and every dish was not only lovingly prepared and presented (totally Insta-worthy!), but also very tasty! Our children particularly enjoyed the congee, an authentic Vietnamese dish with a special twist! For me personally, the Mango Sago and the Melon Granita were a highlight! Many thanks to the great team!

Very yummy and special and still very simple! The Szechuan Fries and the Chicken Katsu Sandwich were great and the Caesar Salad was also super tasty.

The food was really good, though the overall experience was dampened by what felt like a kind of dysfunctional service. I wanna say first off that the wait staff were extremely friendly, explained everything well, and were doing their best. We both ordered a sandwich and fries and a dessert to share, which were all great. However, the fries came out around 25 minutes before the sandwich, meaning we had to kind of ration them before the sandwich came, and they were inevitably cold by the time the sandwich arrived. Generally these are the kind of thing you want to eat at the same time. Then, around 5 minutes into the sandwich coming, the dessert inexplicably arrived also. It was a sizzling molten chocolate brownie with ice cream, so by the time we finished our sandwiches, it had gotten cold and the ice cream had mostly melted. So overall, it was a bit of a let down in that sense, considering the price, the experience didn't match it, so I don't know if we'd come back for that reason.

Amazing chicken sandwich, also fell in love with one of the waitress. We're dating now.. amazing vibes.

Delicious foods, nice atmosphere

That was really not good food. We ordered the curry chicken and pork belly which might have been ambitious on my part. Both dishes tasted like they were made from packages and over seasoned. Very overpriced for the quality of food. Service is friendly enough for what it is. But you are not served but rather order at the counter. The art deco diner aesthetic is cool but feels unwelcoming.

Cozy environment and super food, service really efficient too!

The resto features Diner style interior yet it’s quite elegant with refined wood finishing. It’s very retro & has style+vibe. Menu is simplistic and staff are pleasant & efficient. Mirroring the interior, the menu focuses on “fast food/ home cooked” traditional Japanese with a few elevated Asian inspired dishes. Standout items are the Chicken Katsu paired with the koroke curry. I Found the sauce quite light and flavorful which is usually not the norm as Japanese curry can be quite heavy & thick. Also, shout out to the Caesar salad that was exceptional. The tempeh sandwich was good but not anything spectacular however the toast on the sandwich was very good. All in all, a great spot in town.

It was my favorite to-go place for a Japanese curry in Berlin. But today, when I ordered it via Wolt (order number 074), the quality was way worse than before. The curry was water-liquid, the chicken appeared kinda stale and chewy, and the carrot had dark spots on it. I’ll be happy to replace this review with a positive one when the quality is back to normal.
