I recently visited again after more than 20 years, and what can I say: it's still fantastic. The goulash soup served in a bread bowl was absolutely delicious, the atmosphere incredibly cozy, and the people relaxed and friendly.

A truly quaint pub, very cozy and really friendly staff, delicious food, freshly prepared, very tasty Jägerschnitzel and absolutely fair prices!

A really cozy pub. I went there as a high school student and rediscovered it last year. It's in a half-timbered building, which also influences the atmosphere. Very nice. I don't think they served food back then. Now they do, and it's delicious and not overpriced. Very friendly service, and the atmosphere is always good. On certain days, there's music and karaoke... If you want to eat on those days, you should definitely make a reservation.

Fantastic place - simple, delicious food and an amazing atmosphere

On a short walk recently, I passed by this—yes, pub—and thought to myself: It looks cozy, you should go there. So, together with a friend, I tried out the Laternchen. It was a Monday, so I decided to reserve a table, but ultimately, it wasn't necessary. The response to my online reservation came personally and not automatically from a reservation service, which I found very appealing. I was given the choice between outside (a small beer garden, visible from the street) and inside, and I opted for inside. Overall, it's rather dimly lit, but in my opinion, that's part of the overall feel. It made the very winding, but not cluttered, restaurant particularly cozy. I was allowed to sit in a booth next to the kitchen entrance—at first, I thought it might be too loud, but I didn't even notice the kitchen as the evening progressed. Well, that's not entirely true, because we also ate something, of course – the fried potatoes with meatloaf, two fried eggs, and salad were delicious and exactly what I expected. Overall, the menu is very concise and focuses on a few dishes centered around fried potatoes and (unfortunately, only pork) schnitzel, as well as cheese dishes. For me, that's a big plus, because I don't like those menus where you can find Asian and Indian dishes between the white sausage and doner kebab. The Laternchen knows what it wants to offer and does it with very good quality – and the portions are good, too. Not too big, but not too small either. The prices are also striking, which are very moderate. The aforementioned dish cost 13.50 euros, and together with a couple of beers and a very tasty dessert (try the chocolate soufflé), we both only had to pay 55 euros. So the tip could have been a bit larger. :-) The service was hard to beat. Very friendly, very attentive, but not pushy - just what you'd want. Conclusion: I'll be coming here more often. Oh yes - on Saturdays, according to a sign, there's always live music here. I'm curious to see how it goes (and where the band will be...).

This is a truly sweet place. The outdoor seating is lovely, and the interior is quaint. The food is homely and delicious, the service is friendly, and the value for money is, in my opinion, very good. If you want to sit outside, it's recommended to make a reservation.

This cute little pub is a place where a lot of heart and soul have gone into it, and you can tell right away. The service was incredibly friendly and the food was delicious, which we weren't expecting at all. We'll be back!

Small with a lot of charm. Here you can see how much love the restaurant is run with. Good food with lots of choice at reasonable prices. The drinks are served with a healthy sense of humor. Here the boss sings herself and creates a good atmosphere. Just go, it's worth it.

Actually a great shop. The schnitzel was always very good. In the last six months I went to get schnitzel three times. Every time it's the same, far-dry frozen schnitzel that's fried so dead that it tastes similar to dried meat. And that for €18.50??? For €18.50 you should expect a fresh, juicy schnitzel! The last time I forgot half of my starter (garlic dip with bread - the bread was forgotten so I couldn't do much with the dip) when I called I was told by the boss that next time there would be something extra. Now I was there again for one last try, there was nothing extra, no discount, again fart-dry meat and unsalted fries... It's a shame, I've enjoyed going there for many years and have always recommended it to others, but I can't do that anymore!! On the contrary

Wir sind immer mal wieder gerne im Laternchen. Über die Jahre hat es essensmäßig leider ein bisschen nachgelassen, aber prinzipiell ist es eine urige Lokation mit bodenständigem Essen.

I was there yesterday with my sweetheart and unfortunately we couldn't get a table so we only got a place at the counter to eat, but it still didn't bother us because the ambience and the staff were great.....will definitely come back there. ....great pub atmosphere.....there aren't that many of ...... these days.

The lantern A very old, established restaurant with a lot of charm • The place looks totally romantic from the outside as well as the inside with its small seating areas and niches • It's better to reserve • At the beginning there wasn't that much going on then there were a lot of people loud. • Conversation between each other tends to be a little louder • rustic country house style • kept rather dark by the light • Staff super friendly, nice, courteous, fast, • Cash and card payment possible • Parking spaces: opposite or on the street • no long waiting time • Menu manageable • regional products •eat hamburger was very tasty Unfortunately the hamburger bun wasn't toasted otherwise super tasty 💕 There was also a delicious salad • Dessert: a chocolate cake with melting chocolate is a dream 🥰 Tip : It's difficult to go spontaneously, it's best to call ahead Live band every first Saturday

Good for decades. Especially the fried potatoes... always delicious. Here in the Lanternchen is the cradle of the Lanternchen, this very special drink.

We were able to celebrate my birthday there comfortably and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere. Everyone agreed that there are far too few such quaint and cozy places. The service was always quick and friendly without being intrusive. And the schnitzels were exactly as they should be. Likewise the fried potatoes. Everything to the point 💯. We would be happy to come back

The Lanternchen is a cult pub. It still looks the same as it did 30 years ago. A place to feel good. Food and drinks top. Friendly service.

The food was very tasty. Both the fried potatoes and the fries were great. The schnitzels were a bit thin but didn't detract from the taste. I put the ugly mayo blobs on it. Small suggestion for improvement: Sharper knives would be very welcome. They were very blunt but there is no deduction for that :)

Discovered more by accident yesterday. Very quaint and rustic small restaurant. Super friendly and nice service, nice menu. Went on a day trip to Bergstrasse. Very good “Handkees with music” and tasty Äppler. A stop is definitely planned for the next trip to Bergstrasse. We'll be back. Greetings from the Palatinate!!!!!!

The Lantern, a cult pub that I have known for 50 years. The interior ambience has hardly changed and remains just as cozy as before. Back then it was more of a meeting place for us young people, but today it has become a pub for all generations. There are lots of cozy nooks in the pub and a quiet little beer garden outside. If you like to eat a cooked cheese schnitzel with a good beer and in a very friendly and cozy atmosphere, this is exactly the right place for you.

A very nice little restaurant with a lot of charm! There is delicious food and good drinks here. I felt comfortable there - but the air is very stuffy and very stale. The window was opened briefly, but immediately closed again because of the draft in the unpleasant weather. The operator should consider modern decentralized ventilation systems with heat recovery. These can be retrofitted easily and inexpensively by drilling a core hole through the outer wall. Then the indoor air does not accumulate so much fumes and humidity and the quality of living is significantly increased.

I got a Viennese style schnitzel and a Jägerschnitzel. Both very generous portions, schnitzel and fried potatoes were delicious and homemade. One star deducted because the sauce was forgotten for the Jägerschnitzel.

Food is simply delicious and good. Highly recommended goulash in a loaf of bread and the schnitzel with hand cheese. If you don't drink the lantern with it, you're missing out!

Reservations are a must if you want to eat in the evening. The food was very tasty (Swiss schnitzel). Prices are ok at 16.50, not the cheapest schnitzel, but with side dishes you can't complain here either. The service was great, always kept an eye on us and was very friendly.

Rustic atmosphere, very cozy, small and fine. The food looks delicious, but tastes very bland. The waffles I ate didn't seem homemade either, nor did the cream. That's a shame, of course. But otherwise everything was great.

A nice ambience, thanks to the winding corners, you have the opportunity to eat in peace almost everywhere. Basically I would say that the quality of the food is very solid for a pub, but the desserts are very lagging. Souffle was no longer available (probably not homemade) and as an alternative we ordered the Belgian waffles and they were just toasted mini waffles from the supermarket, although you can mix waffle batter in 3 minutes, if you heat up the iron during the mixing time you would have to A total of 6 minutes of fresh waffles, then the price would also be fair, unfortunately not as it is at the moment. What is definitely commendable is that you can order lanterns in different sizes and even without alcohol (even if blackcurrant juice is apparently used instead of cherry juice)

Absolutely recommended! The food was delicious and the seating was very cozy and rustic. The employees were also very friendly and accommodating. I'm already looking forward to the next visit! :)

Had Jägerschnitzel. From the shape and quality of TK goods. Breading soggy and tasteless. The hunter sauce was even worse. Absolutely heartlessly seasoned🤮. One star goes to the fries. But they were also saltless.

Hallo, was war das denn vorhin, wir wurden harsch angefahren, nicht reserviert, wir haben keinen Platz, kein Guten Abend oder ähnliches was habt ihr da im Biergarten eingestellt, da sind wir bessere Bedienung gewöhnt, das war unterirdisch, wir waren sonst immer gerne hier, aber das war heute der Gipfel

Solltet ihr mal nach Seeheim/ Bergstraße kommen. Ein absolutes Muss. Das Laternchen. So eine Kneipe muss man gesehen haben. 👍

Saugemütliche kleine Kneipe mit leckerem Essen und guter Stimmung. Der Aussenbereich ist auch schön und wir hatten an diesem Abend tolle Livemusik. Jederzeit wieder.

Uriges Restaurant an der Weinstraße zünftige und leckere Küche. Faire Preise und nette Bedienung. Die Spezialität "Laternchen" sollte man sich nicht entgehen lassen! Nette kleine Außenterrasse. Sehr urige Inneneinrichtung. Einen Besuch wert, wenn man in der Nähe ist!

Kleines Stübchen mit mega Flair.Noch richtige urige geile Kneipe mit gutem Essen. Hatten eigtl keine Platz für mich haben mich aber noch auf einen kleinen Platz an der Theke gesetzt.Essen,Service,Lage,alles super. Ein Besuch wert.

Fleisch, Zwiebelschnitzel zäh, dünn,kaum Zwiebelringe, Gullaschsuppe vom Aldidose serviert u. lauwarm, auf unser Bierchen mußten wir auch warten

Von Freunden wurde uns das Lokal wärmstens empfohlen, wir sind mit großen Erwartungen gekommen. Rumpsteaks waren ausverkauft, an unserem Tisch wollten vier Personen Steaks, zwei Damen bekamen noch welche, ich musste mich mit Schnitzel begnügen. Als Vorspeise wählten wir zwei Portionen Kochkäse mit Musik aufgrund der Empfehlung Kochkäse mit Bärlauch zu probieren. Auf unsere Nachfrage, ob wir einen Nachschlag bekommen könnten, hieß es, es wird knapp, mehr als eine kleine Menge ginbe nicht mehr, da der Bestand aufgebraucht sei. Angemerkt wir haben an einem Freitagabend dieses Lokal besucht, sowohl Steaks als auch Kochkäse würden mehrere Tage haltbar sein. Dass Freitagsabends bereits nichts mehr erhältlich ist, stimmt uns sehr kritisch. Einfache Gerichte, wie Bratkartoffeln mit Spiegelei, sind üppig und preiswert. Aufwändigere Gerichte sind nicht empfehlenswert. Schnitzel mit Pfefferrahmsauce enthalten keinen namensgebenden Rahm (Sahne), stattdessen wird eine Tomatensauce mit wenigen getrockneten Pfefferkörnern serviert. Wer eine helle Rahmsauce mit eingelegten, weichen, grünen Pfefferkörnern erwartet, wird enttäuscht werden. Am schlimmsten ist jedoch das Garnelenpfännchen, wenige Garnelen, die man an zwei Händen abzählen kann, werden zu gesalzenen Preisen serviert. Reklamiert man dieses unterirdische Preis-Leistungsverhältnis, wird man mit Verweis auf die Inflation abgekanzelt. Ich gehe pro Woche drei- bis viermal Essen, dieses Lokal ist mit Abstand die schlechteste Wahl für mich in diesem Jahr gewesen. Das einzig empfehlenswerte ist das sogenannte "Laternchen", ein Liter hessischer Apfelwein mit einem Glas Kirschlikör darin. Als Speisewirtschaft absolut nicht zu empfehlen. Wenn man vorher Essen gegangen ist und sich die "Kante" geben will, mag das Lokal taugen. Ich bin wirklich bitter enttäuscht... (Die verantwortliche Servicekraft auf dieses Missverhältnis angesprochen, zeigte keinerlei Reaktion uns zu beschwichtigen, ich kam mir vor nach "Schema F" behandelt zu werden.)

If you're looking for a cozy pub with delicious food, this is the place to be. The staff was super friendly, the food was very good and the restaurant super cozy.

Toll, das es noch so gemütliche Kneipen gibt.... und dann auch noch leckeres Essen dazu zu fairen Preisen. Das Team war super freundlich.

Super freundlicher Service, nahrhaltige Gerichte

Echt urige Kneipe, wie man sie nur noch selten findet. Solides Essen und Top-Bedienung.

Wenn ich an eine gemütliche Kneipe denke mit Niveau und Charakter, fällt mir nur diese Einzige im weiten Umkreis ein! Es gibt Restaurants, Bars, Cafes, Tapasbars, Chinesen, Türken, Inder und Pizzerien, jede Menge gutbürgerliche Küche (meistens sehr leider sehr altbacken), aber nirgendwo den Charme dieser kleinen Kneipe mit guter Küche!

Gemütliches und rustikales Restaurant mit einer guten Karte und leckerem Essen. Wegen des guten Wetters saßen wir mit einer größeren Gesellschaft draußen. Sehr guter, freundlicher, flinker und persönlicher Service! Das "Laternchen" ist sehr zu empfehlen!

Das Laternchen ist immer einen Besuch wert. Das Essen ist sehr lecker (ich liebe das Kartoffelpfännchen), die Bedienung ist sehr nett und die Atmosphäre ist urig. Wir gehen seit vielen Jahren ins Laternchen und werden es auch noch lange tun. Es ist schön, diese Lokation in der Nähe zu haben!

Super leckeres Essen, faire Preise, nettes Personal und gemütliches Ambiente. Das Rumpsteak ist der Hammer. Da liegt fast ein Rind auf dem Teller. Handwerklich super.
