Our Saturday evening at Ristorante Da Carlo was anything but a complete failure. We received a friendly welcome, with a special from the kitchen (fresh herb quark, olives, and a rustic baguette), and a second bread basket upon request. The scallops and sea bass were fresh and a culinary delight, rarely found in this quality in Saarbrücken. And the service was attentive and very, very friendly. Thank you very much, and please keep it up!

Review for Restaurant Enoteca Carlo Why do people go to a restaurant? Not just to eat, but also to have special experiences. To enjoy dishes that they often can't prepare at home, and to receive appropriate service. Because the restaurant industry is a service industry. Or so we thought until now. Unfortunately, that's exactly what we didn't get at Restaurant Enoteca Carlo. We reserved a table for four at 7 p.m. last week. We had to wait over 30 minutes to receive the menus – a bad start to the evening. For our starter, we ordered gratinated scallops. They served two tiny mussels on a few arugula leaves for €19.90 – completely disappointing. The main course finally arrived after 9:30 p.m. and was a huge disappointment. We ordered tagliatelle in a Parmesan wheel, but we got mediocre pasta, the kind you'd expect to find in a student cafeteria. Pasta water pooled on the plate, the pasta stuck together, and there was a bit of grated cheese on top – not Parmesan. Anyone familiar with Italian cheese recognizes the color, texture, flavor, and creamy texture of Parmesan and can easily distinguish it from Pecorino. Pasta made from a Parmesan wheel has a creamy texture and doesn't stick together. This "sad meal in a plate" was therefore not a genuine preparation in a Parmesan wheel, but a poor copy of a simpler, but otherwise delicious dish. The presentation was also lackluster. The service was friendly, but even she couldn't apologize in the end – after countless attempts. When we called the head waiter or restaurant manager, who hadn't introduced himself, and voiced our criticism, it was received extremely poorly – almost as if we ourselves were to blame for choosing that restaurant. There was no apology, no espresso, no dessert to make up for it. The reaction was so inappropriate that, in our eyes, the restaurant completely lost face. Conclusion: long wait times, overpriced starters, disappointing main courses, and an inappropriate approach to legitimate criticism. An experience better found elsewhere. Unfortunately, absolutely not recommended.

I looked at the previous reviews and thought to myself: Why not write one? There's no accounting for taste, as we all know – but there is for bad taste. After a tough week, the four of us were looking forward to an Italian evening. At 7:15 p.m., we sat down at our reserved table. The menu arrived within a reasonable time. Then the adventure began: As a "greeting from the kitchen," we were served a half-eggshell-sized bowl of smeared butter, eight "supermarket-brand" olives, and five slices of yesterday's rye bread. As typically Italian as a ciabatta—well, almost. For four people. It wasn't a "greeting from the kitchen," but actually the appetizer: two tiny scallops for €19.90 per person, which arrived after almost 50 minutes of waiting for our order. Decorated in large mussel shells, well-cooked—but still: really nothing to bite into. The vitello came with a sauce that was more reminiscent of tartar sauce, and the calamari could have grown a bit more in the wild. At 9:40 p.m., after another hour of waiting, the main course finally arrived: tagliatelle in a Parmesan wheel—or so we thought, at least that's what it said on the menu and the bill. In the meantime, we were able to gaze at the empty appetizer plates—as a reminder of an unforgettable feast. Served with pasta in pasta water, topped with grated hard cheese that tasted more like "some Grano-something." Parmesan? If so, it was probably on an Italian wish list. To top it all off, the head waiter explained to us with a somber expression that we'd been mistaken—of course, the pasta had been tossed in a Parmesan wheel. Proudly, he showed us (he didn't introduce himself) the words "Grano Padano" written on the crust. He apparently didn't understand anything, because his menu and our bill said Parmesan. As further "proof," he presented a sliced, completely dry loaf of cheese that was sitting in the entrance area like a museum piece. I assume the last pasta in it had seen a Deutsche Mark. The wait was explained away by pointing out that all the guests had arrived at the same time. Yes – how crazy: arriving at the restaurant at 7 p.m., and then people really want to eat. Nobody could have expected that. Conclusion: Three hours of waiting, an appetizer in homeopathic dosage, a main course from the "student dorm" category, plus the charming lecture that you can't tell Parmesan from hard cheese. I love Italian cuisine – which is precisely why this was my last visit here. Rotkäppchensekt is also sparkling wine, but not champagne. Margarine can be spread, but it is not butter. Hard cheese also comes in a loaf, but it is not Parmigiano Reggiano. And cheekiness is also a behavior – but not a customer relationship.

Very friendly service. They always made an effort to please every guest. The food was prepared quite quickly. Good and fair value for money. Fresh ingredients. Portions weren't too huge either. We sat outside – also very nice. If you don't mind that some guests drive past the seated guests to park, we'd be happy to go again 👍

Die Location ist einfach ideal. Bei schönem Wetter sitzt man im Freien und sonst in einem netten Ambiente das wunderbar zu dem Charakter der Küche passt. Zunächst wäre der herzliche Service zu nennen und auch die persönliche Ansprache des Patron. Er hat seinen eigenen Charme zuvorkommend und nett. Er kennt seine Gäste und Wünsche. Die Speisen sind von bester Qualität und genussvoll in der Zubereitung. Das kann nicht billig sein und soll es auch nicht denn gute Ware kostet nun mal mehr. Tolle Weinkarte und somit alles in Allem eine absolute Empfehlung.

The location is simply ideal. When the weather is nice, you can sit outside, and otherwise in a pleasant ambiance that perfectly complements the character of the cuisine. First of all, the warm service and the owner's personal approach are worth mentioning. He has a charm all his own: courteous and friendly. He knows his guests and their wishes. The food is of the highest quality and deliciously prepared. It can't be cheap, and it shouldn't be, because good food simply costs more. Great wine list and, all in all, an absolute recommendation.

We haven't been here for a long time and I now know why. The food was quite okay. But you can't think of earlier times. Prices very excessive. Service hardly available, portions very manageable. Personal hospitality apparently only for selected customers. Conclusion. Not for me anymore.

Were there on 11/9/24. The ambience was great, just like it was back then with the previous owner. The service was also nice. The food was actually a disgrace for the price asked. I had a carelessly prepared starter consisting of 3 narrow baked Hokkaido pumpkin wedges (not marinated or seasoned), the whole thing thinly covered with melted Taleggio (without the rind, which is inherently more intense in taste), plus a very small handful of rocket and 1!! braised cocktail tomato. The sauce consisted of the evening's pumpkin and ginger cream soup. That for the price of 17 euros. Hats off. Nobody needs to go to a restaurant for the combo, it's colloquial student cuisine. For the main course I ordered the homemade tagliatelle from the Parmesan wheel. Done correctly, this is a great dish in terms of the idea. But it depends on the fact that a sip of pasta water combines with the scraped Parmesan in the wheel to form a white, creamy emulsion and sticks to the pasta through intensive mixing. There is usually also a good pinch of black pepper. Unfortunately, this was a too dry side dish of pasta (I'm not really sure if it was homemade because of the bite) without emulsion/binding with a little cheese sprinkled on top for €18. Sorry, but that has nothing to do with cooking, because in this case the craftsmanship is completely screwed up. I'm more likely to expect something like that in a canteen than at a highly acclaimed Italian restaurant. My wife had a slightly over-soured panzanella as a starter that was so-so. The price was around €17 - for the money you can normally eat a decent salad plate with baked potatoes. The main course was overcooked gnocchi with a relatively tasteless sauce - sorry Sugo - and some cheese. That wasn't really the answer either. Priced again at 17-18€. As a precaution, we decided not to have dessert at the end. The bottom line is that the entire daily menu did not consist of independently cooked dishes, but of individual ingredients that were put together without much effort. If the soup of the day serves as a sauce, then...well. This is more like “made something to eat” than cooked. Anyone with a bit of culinary education must actually feel like they're being taken for a ride here. That being said, I wonder what place beef roulades with Vichy carrots and puree have on an Italian menu. It's a mystery to me why anyone would go back here for the food. Maybe it's the wine list - I don't know. You can quickly reach €40 per person... I'd rather add more somewhere else.

Wir sind Stammgäste bei Da Carlo. Wir schätzen die Qualität der Speisen und die Professionalität der Servicemitarbeiter. Angenehm ist auch, dass man auf die Sonderwünsche der Gäste eingeht. Selbst wenn man eine Languste möchte, wird diese, selbstverständlich nach Vorbestellung, serviert. Ebenso ist es bei Thunfisch Teriyaki (unserem Lieblingsessen), der auf den Punkt zubereitet wird. Im Sommer kann man die Speisen auf der komplett überdachten Außenterrasse einnehmen. Hier hat Carlo ein außerordentlich aufwendiges System von Sonnenschirmen installieren lassen, an deren Seiten sich Regenabflüsse befinden, so dass man auch bei schlechterem Wetter draußen sitzen kann. Der Oberkellner Kadir, assistiert von seinen freundlichen Helferinnen Jenny und Melanie, hat den reibungslosen Ablauf voll im Griff. Er weiß auch, dass uns Raucher, auch auf der Terrasse, stören und weist uns dann einen Tisch zu, an welchen beide Nachbarn nicht rauchen. Das ist schon bemerkenswert. Jovanna, die Chefin sorgt für die Getränke und bereitet die hervorragenden Desserts zu. Carlo, die wandelnde Weinkarte, kann sich auf sein Stammpersonal verlassen. Ihm bleibt nur die Honneurs und er fühlt sich wahrscheinlich wie ein Kapitän, der auf der Brücke steht, und dem ganzen Treiben entspannt zuschaut.

Das Essen ist gut, aber nicht außergewöhnlich, wovon man aber bei den gehobenen Preisen ausgehen mag. Ich empfinde knapp 13 für einen kleinen Feldsaat mit Croutons als Vorspeise als Ansage - da erwartet man auch etwas Besonderes. Der Hauptgang Maispoulade mit Wirsing und Nudeln ist mit knapp 26€ ebenso hochpreisig. Geschmacklich gut, aber eben nicht außergewöhnlich. Es fehlt vielleicht das gewisse Etwas oder Raffinesse in den Gerichten, dann wäre ich auch mit der Preisgestaltung vollkommen d'accord.

Gutes Essen. Ziemlich teuer. Stammgäste scheinen bevorzugt behandelt zu werden. Die Angestellten tragen die Maske am Kinn. Wen soll das schützen? Da stellt man sich schon die Frage wie sieht es sonst mit der Hygiene aus? Das geht besser.

Auffallend war die freundliche und nette Bedienung. Das Essen war sehr gut. Offene Weine in guter Auswahl. Wir hatten kurzfristig reserviert und man war sehr bemüht uns trotz voller Auslastung einen schönen Tisch anzubieten. Der Chef ist charmant , wenn er einen kennt. Es war eine gelungene Spontanaktion.

Zum Abschluss eines sehr erfolgreichen Projekts mit Kolleginnen, Kollegen und einer Beraterin verbrachten wir einen schönen Abend in lockerer Atmosphäre im Ristorante Da Carlo. Das Essen war klassisch italienisch, leicht und sehr überzeugend (auch nicht italienischer Fisch wie Lachs war sehr gut zubereitet, Calamaretti und alle Arten von Pasta ohnehin).

Ordered here for the first time and was not disappointed. The dough was cooked through but fluffy. The fresh topping and flavor were also good. Delivery was also great.
