CUXX in Essen

Found a couple of cherished single malts, a Springbank 10 and the now hard-to-find, Talisker 57 degrees. Would have been a total pleasure if the hospitality was up to par with the whisk offering. The barman should be reminded that he's running a bar not a nuclear shelter! Smiling and looking into the eyes of the patrons while serving them is permitted (a cue from the nearby no-frills Sailor's bar sign, 'Smile, it may confuse people' should help)

The CUXX impresses with a stylish ambience in a beautifully landscaped hotel complex. The atmosphere is pleasant, the service is attentive, friendly and consistently professional - as a guest you feel like you are in good hands. The taste of the food is okay, but without any particular sophistication. The portions are generous, which is definitely a positive thing. I chose a burger from the vegan section of the menu. In terms of taste, it was solid, but the patty itself couldn't keep up with alternatives like Redefine Meat or Beyond Meat - it was quite compact and didn't have a meat-like texture, which can be standard, especially with modern vegan burgers today. A real point of criticism: The burger was served with classic (not vegan) Hellmann’s mayonnaise. I'm not a vegan myself, but I avoid meat - so it's no problem for me. However, for people who follow a strict vegan diet, this would be a clear reason for exclusion. If you already offer a vegan option, it should also be consistently vegan. Bottom line: A nice visit with good service and a nice location. Culinary but with room for improvement.

I have just had one of the best steaks in my life. Nice wine to pair with. I liked it!

The CUXX, located inside the Atlantic Congress, is a fine bistro/restaurant where one can enjoy an excellent meal in a very pleasant location. It is also accessible to non-hotel guests (even the breakfast). During the breakfast is it possible to find sweet and savoury food, with some delicacies I have rarely encountered (including: 16 types of tea that can only be consumed after infusion (no pre-packaged sachets), fresh smoothies, 3 types of honey, 6 types of jams, 3 varieties of seeds). Several dishes are offered, including some typical ones. The courses are plentiful, and the price is more than commensurate with the excellent quality of the food and the aesthetic pleasantness of the arrangement. I highly recommend it.
