A very disappointing experience at China Restaurant Orchidee. I visited China Restaurant Orchidee roughly 45 minutes before closing time after a long day of travel. Unfortunately, my experience did not meet expectations. Upon entering, the initial interaction with the staff felt somewhat unwelcoming, and I was directed to a table only after asking multiple times. I ordered dish number 24 (chicken) along with a tea. When my food arrived, I tasted a small amount before realizing that the dish contained duck instead of chicken. As someone who does not eat duck, I immediately stopped eating and tried to explain the situation to the staff. Due to language barriers, communication was challenging, but I made it clear that I had received the wrong order. Although another waitress acknowledged the issue and said the correct dish would be prepared, the situation became increasingly uncomfortable when it came time to pay. The staff insisted that I had ordered a different dish (number 34), and despite my attempts to clarify the misunderstanding, both verbally and using a translation app, the conversation grew tense. I felt blamed for the mistake, even though I had only tasted a small portion before realizing it was not the dish I ordered. After a lengthy discussion, I was eventually charged only for the chicken dish and the tea, but the overall atmosphere remained unpleasant. This was an unfortunate and stressful experience at the end of a long day, and based on this visit, I would not choose to return.

A very nice restaurant with a delicious and plentiful buffet offering a wide variety of dishes. We are very satisfied and will gladly return.

The food is not recommended; it is cold and contains metallic foreign objects, including the mushrooms, tarts made of copenrat and meadow grass, and the cardboard packaging in the counter.

Although the restaurant wasn't crowded, the food containers were mostly empty and rarely refilled. And when food was available, it wasn't even warm, but less than lukewarm. After we brought this up with the server, she told us we'd just have to use the pre-warmed plates. But those were cold too! The server left us standing there without another word! Today, during Mid-Autumn Festival, I went to eat there with some classmates and was surprised by how unbearable a restaurant can be. [Shame on you R] Service attitude and quality First, six of us ordered six dishes and asked for a pot of hot water. We were told it was one euro per cup, with no refills. I was a little confused at first, but then I realized it was just a cultural difference, so it's understandable. However, it still felt a bit lacking in personal touch and awkward. After all, some Chinese restaurants provide hot water, and on Mid-Autumn Festival night, our order wasn't shabby. Then, after the dishes arrived, there were no chopsticks, bowls, or spoons. We had to tell them one by one what was missing, and we had to ask for three of these three things three times, which was a bit confusing, considering we were the only table dining that night and they weren't busy. [Disappointment R] Outrageous dishes We ordered six dishes, and my overall evaluation was that most of them were prepared the same way: just mix some sauce and starch, heat it in a pot, and serve. The reviews are as follows: Vinegar-Stir-fried Pork Intestines: The only dish I could eat, and it tasted good, especially since pork intestines are perfect for this cooking method. Sour Fish: Should be renamed Sour Cabbage Boiled Fish. I seriously suspect they accidentally made it into boiled fish with some pickled cabbage thrown in at the end to spruce it up. Instead of a golden broth, it had chili oil and red peppers. No bean sprouts, only lettuce. Don't ask why; it's just the right thing to do. Spicy Chicken: Should be renamed Spicy Chicken Breast. They used the cheapest chicken breast to make the most bland spicy chicken. Beef Tenderloin with Spicy Peppers: Should be renamed Sauce-Stir-fried Beef Tenderloin. Just add sauce, starch, chili peppers, and beef, then heat it up and serve. Dry Pot Seafood: Should be renamed Dry Pot Fake Shrimp. There aren't many real shrimp, but there are plenty of protein bar-shaped shrimp, which also seem to be tossed with sauce and heated up. Sautéed Lamb with Scallions: Should be renamed Sauce-Stir-fried Lamb. The grand finale, no more words, just look at the pictures. I took one bite and threw up. The six of us couldn't even finish a single piece of meat. Six Tuos of Dishes: Total 128 Euro, average price per piece is 21-22 Euro

Cozy, friendly service. We opted for the à la carte dishes and were unfortunately not entirely satisfied: the food and rice were only lukewarm and could have been seasoned better. The coconut sauce was very thick. The buffet looked very good.

Excellent restaurant with very friendly staff. The buffet was outstanding – the variety of food you can choose from is incredible. Therefore, the risk of overeating is always high for us, so discipline is required. But the à la carte menu also offers excellent Chinese food. We go there regularly and are always very satisfied. Parking is available right in front of the restaurant.

What drew us to the restaurant was the ambiance. It was also the only good thing about the place... We weren't asked if we wanted to eat a la carte, but were immediately invited to the "buffet." Mozzarella so hard it squeaked like an eraser against your teeth and dried-out tomatoes awaited us... If you're used to good food, you should avoid this place! It was definitely not worth the money! The waiter even asked you about the lack of a tip... a real disgrace. Never again!!!!!

Terrible experience. Only after finishing the meal they tell me it is cash only, no option to pay by card (despite the sign in the main door). As a business trip meal it was so inconvenient, especially since I had to look for a bank to get the cash (with the extra fee which won’t be recovered). They did not apologize nor seemed to care at all.

We recently had a buffet at this restaurant, but unfortunately it was one of the worst restaurant visits I have ever had. Much of the food looked old and unappealing. The sushi in particular – which should have been fresh given the raw fish – was dried out and tasteless. The quality left a lot to be desired. The service was also poor. The staff was disinterested and unfriendly. When I decided not to leave a tip because of this negative experience, I was not even greeted when I paid and left the restaurant. I found that very unprofessional. All in all, this was a very disappointing experience. I will not be returning here and I do not recommend it to others.

We ate here today after a long time, and it was really good. The quality and freshness of the food were excellent, and the drinks were constantly being refilled. Except for the carrot salad, which was from a jar and tasted bad. The service and friendliness were very good.

Unfortunately, the food quality declined, and even though the restaurant was less than half full, we had to wait a while for our food. We arrived in the evening and were told we could serve ourselves. However, this was in keeping with the very expensive evening buffet; the menu was only brought to us upon request. We ordered a dish for two, which took quite a while. Occasionally, we noticed that more and more people were coming forward to pay. They obviously didn't like the wait either. As the waiter walked past our table, I immediately pulled out my wallet and said we wanted to pay by card. This took a while, and I decided not to leave a tip, which surprised the waiter, who asked me twice if I really wanted to leave a tip. It's a shame; we ate there often and enjoyed it, but this was definitely the last time.

A wide selection of food and very attentive staff. The meat was mostly very good, the fried duck less so. The salad, vegetables, dessert, and salmon were all very good.

Absolute disgrace! Food from the buffet was cold, mozzarella expired, meat to be fried tasted like rotten meat, sushi was hardly available and only with vegetables and no fish. Paid €45 for this with my child. The health department should stop by here!! This restaurant will never see us again. Child is currently suffering from stomach pain.

The "Orchidee" restaurant in Göttingen is one of the better buffet restaurants in Germany. The dishes are varied, warm, and not overly salty. The staff is very pleasant!

So far I've always been able to get a seat without a reservation, it's a normal all you can eat buffet.

Fine, well-managed buffet restaurant with fresh 'exotic" fish seafood and frog legs (if you're looking for something a bit out of the ordinary). The standard courses in the buffet all look fresh and clean, and the sushi is fresh, and the service is excellent. The large dining room is nice and spacey with panorama windows to the street

In summary, I agree with the previous reviews. The restaurant was surprisingly empty. When we arrived at the table, there were a lot of leftover food under the table, which was not removed even at our request. The food itself was mostly just lukewarm. Not a highlight in terms of taste, but definitely okay. Unfortunately, some of the dishes were not completely clean, which I have already experienced in other restaurants. The container was only refilled when the container had been empty for a while. Continuous availability of food would be desirable here. The selection was quite good and sufficient. The soft ice cream machine was pretty dingy, but the ice cream was delicious. Everyone has to decide for themselves whether everything together is worth the price.

We've been there several times now. Always buffet. Basically the food was ok, but some of the bowls weren't well filled. The leftovers stay in the bowl and probably sizzle for hours... new things are then simply put on top... old and new mix together... old tastes better thanks to e.g. fried pieces of duck... you could hardly chew... etc. ... in our opinion, the food has become worse compared to previous visits.

The food is very tasty and plentiful. The service leaves a lot to be desired, only at the beginning the staff is diligent, after an hour no one can be seen anymore.

So I'm really outraged, I was having dinner with my girlfriend, we didn't have a second of peace, we were being watched the whole time. I asked the waiter, who looked like an Indian, why he was watching us all the time. He said, "I don't know what people like you do here, certainly not just eating." After that statement, I left everything and then ran away. That was the last time I was there and I've heard something like that often enough

The restaurant is nicely decorated, but the food is no more than average. Rather less. We found the selection for a buffet quite poor.

Enjoy a crispy duck in the Orchid? That was the goal after a long time. I got a lukewarm and limp duck. After complaining to the friendly waiter, the dish was brought back a little hotter. The duck was now completely gone, warm but without any crust. The duck was swimming in a brown sauce. Not tasty. No recommendation.

2024/03 Dinner single person Everything was good, at the very end it cost two stars. I arrived at 5:35 p.m. The entire buffet was set up and we could start straight away. I quickly ordered a beer and when I got to my seat there was a cold drink. That's exactly how it went on. The plates were quickly put away. Drinks were quickly refilled. The buffet is extensive and there is something of everything. The dishes are very well prepared, the grill master was great. In the toilet there is only a hand dryer with airflow, there is a toilet roll for paper - not nice. The Gau came at the end, it wasn't the gentleman who had been serving me the whole time who came to collect, it was the older Chinese gentleman dressed in deep black. I wanted to pay by card and had cash ready for the tip. The gentleman entered the amount of EUR 37.30 and asked: “Do I really want to pay this amount?” I was so perplexed that I put down the cash, this was accepted. In my 20 years of field service, I have never been asked for a tip. Or did I misinterpret the question and could have paid 30 EUR. I slept on it for one night and then wrote this review.

Das Buffet war sehr abwechslungsreich und auch geschmacklich in Ordnung. Leider haben wir in den ganzen 3 Stunden wo wir da waren nur einmal Getränke bekommen. Finde ich ein für ein Restaurant echt bedenklich. Aber vielleicht kann man sich in der Hinsicht verbessern.

The service was friendly, reserved but quick. The buffet was generously laid out, there was no shortage of pots. The dishes such as duck, baked chicken, spring rolls etc were too cold. The soup is very weak and needs to be seasoned a lot more. The food in the sauces wasn't very tasty either. (In the "Eight Delicacies" I could only find four at most....) The shrimps had been in the container for a long time... The dessert buffet was clear, the fruit wasn't fresh! Overall, loveless and average at best.

We recently had dinner for two and we didn't like it at all. The selection was very small for the price of €22.90. The food was somehow completely unseasoned, it really didn't taste like anything. The sweet and sour had a tiny hint of sweetness, but otherwise it didn't taste like anything. The noodles were bland rather than tasty, as were the vegetables. I didn't eat the fresh food, so unfortunately I can't rate it.

We are shocked because we have never experienced anything like this. Stomach pain..and even broken..the food was cold and anything but fresh. We paid 72 euros for dinner buffet for 2 adults and 1 child. Everyone had 1 drink. When we went out, we asked ourselves how we could pay so much money for such miserable food. Tipping was more or less almost forced on my husband with repeated requests. We are not the people who cause stress on site. Now that my son has even vomited several times, I regret that we stayed there. Dear owners, you can't continue selling stale, spoiled food to your customers for outrageous prices. How long has the cake been in the counter please? Think seriously about what you are actually doing. I'm horrified.

I ordered for pickup. I can't complain about the service, it was friendly. But the food doesn't taste good at all. So not at all. The sweet and sour sauce was just sauce, without any vegetables or pineapple pieces or anything else, and only tasted sweet. I paid 11.50 euros for rice with crispy chicken and sauce that resembled liquid ketchup. I won't do it again. I get the impression that if you order and pick up, you're getting yesterday's leftovers, whereas you might actually get good food when you get there. But I wouldn't risk eating there.

It was very warm in the restaurant and the existing air conditioning was off. That's what fans are there for, but they were also switched off. I ordered something to pick up there. When I handed over the receipt I was asked what I wanted to pay. When I didn't tip, the food wasn't handed to me and I had to ask where it was. The waiter was quite unfriendly. To make matters worse, the food also tasted sour. I think it wasn't quite good anymore. I would never eat there again and cannot recommend it.
