A very nice place in Friedrichsort. We received a warm welcome and service, and the food was truly recommendable; we even received chopsticks as a gift!

Unfortunately, the meat and poultry on the lunch menu are heavily breaded and probably microwaved, but they're still perfectly edible. Cooking fresh food for lunch is probably no longer worthwhile anywhere.

We had a lovely evening with good food and excellent service. It's definitely one of the better Chinese restaurants. For us, it was well worth it.

Absolute recommendation! The weekend buffet is so delicious and really beautifully presented. Everything is quickly refilled if something is empty. The ambience is not so “typical Chinese restaurant” but rather the classic flair with modern details and atmospheric acoustic background music of current pop songs. All dishes are clearly labeled and great attention is paid to cleanliness. The price of €39.00 per person plus drinks is of course rather high, but it's definitely worth it. There is even a welcome drink.

I've been coming here regularly for more than 2 years and have never been disappointed or poorly served. To this day, I always order baked wontons as an appetizer. Of course, I can fully recommend the crispy half duck with dark sauce. In summer, the terrace is ideal for staying longer.

We had the pleasure of trying out the buffet at China Restaurant Chau - unfortunately, far from being a privilege, it was more of a disappointment. The price of around €39 per person is disproportionate to the service offered. Although the meat was of good quality, the selection overall was rather limited. It was particularly disappointing that certain dishes, such as sushi and calamari, were no longer refilled. For this price we expect a consistently well-stocked buffet. The ambience was appealing, but that alone doesn't justify the high price. The welcome drink was a “cocktail” – ultimately just water with syrup and a few fruits. Overall, the buffet here is absolutely not recommended. Price-performance is simply not right.

I've known this restaurant for years, and the food has always been delicious and the service has been excellent! Parking is available next to the restaurant. It's worth a visit!

Four of us went there yesterday, with a reservation for the buffet at 7 p.m. Our initial shock was the price: €39 per person, which isn't cheap, and unfortunately, the food wasn't worth the price. The restaurant was quite full around 7 p.m., and it seemed as if they weren't refilling anything; most of the food was already finished... The crispy duck was dry and lumpy, as was the chicken. The chicken skewers were dry, and the sushi selection was mediocre (just vegetables, falling apart). The beef dish was also poor quality. Unfortunately, we expected more for the price. Furthermore, the restaurant is showing its age, and the felt floor smells damp and musty. We won't be back!!

We were there for dinner with the family yesterday. 45 euros per person for the buffet on Christmas and New Year's Eve 😳 Drinks are not included in the price. I would have liked to order a la carte, but this was not possible. It wasn't an exceptional buffet that would justify the price. The staff wasn't the friendliest either. That was the last time we visited the restaurant.

Actually, this was always my favorite restaurant. But today they really took the cake. Had dinner there with my family. 45€ for the buffet, unbelievable. Then the chicken is mushy. The rice wasn't cooked long enough. Specifically, more ice cubes than anything else. THE SERVICE MADE A FACE AND WAS VERY RUDE. Unfortunately, they have slacked off a lot. Were there last time.

Another “real restaurant” and not a buffet temple. Both the soup and the sweet and sour duck were great.

When we have business in Kiel, we always eat at Chau. Very tasty, fast service, and relatively inexpensive.

Restaurant Chau is one of the best Asian restaurants I have ever eaten at. The ambience is pleasant, especially with the garden and winter garden. The food is very tasty and the service is polite. Always enjoy eating here.

War früher schon fast Dauergast im Chau-Restaurant am Holsteinstadion, sehr sehr lange her... Das Restaurant in Friedrichsort hat nur dem Namen nach was mit dem von damals zu tun, schon alleine die Speisekarte ist nur noch 1/6 so groß und Umfangreich. Mein Stammgericht gab es gar nicht mehr: Truthahn mit schwarzen Bohnen... Egal ich bestelte gebackene Wan-Tan und danach knusprig paniertes Hühnerfleisch süß/sauer... Wan-Tan schwammen auf dem Tellerchen in Öl und dem Hühnerfleisch erging es genauso, nur noch paniertes-öliges Fleisch mit Soßenbeilage... Schwer enttäuscht verlies ich das Lokal, denn ein einfacher China-Imbiss in Kiel bietet besseres und deutlich günstigerers Essen... Nie wieder !!!

Hello - had lunch here for the first time. The lunch menu is clearly 8-10 dishes. It fills you up well and the quality is OK. But it is not exquisite as the name suggests. 90s atmosphere.

The service staff were very friendly. We found the prices to be significantly too high.

A very dignified restaurant with an exquisite menu. The furnishings are very tasteful and cozy. The waitresses are very friendly and accommodating. We had a spring roll as a starter. As main courses we had "Chicken with bamboo, champions and nuts - extra spicy" and "Crispy beef a la Chau". The portions were very large and came to the table very hot. An absolute recommendation!

Very tasty and typical Chinese restaurant as we used to know it. Food was well prepared and definitely sufficient. Prices a little above average. But definitely needs to be supported. Large number of seats, clean and friendly service. Also close to the ferry and the beach. We'll come back again

Crispy duck was crispy, but the meat and skin were tough and dry, the bamboo shoots were probably older (the tips were brown) - never again!

It's all a matter of taste: we were there as tourists and we didn't like it at all. The chicken meat was limp and stringy. It was very hot, yes. But it didn't seem really cooked through. Going back to touch up didn't help either. Service was very attentive and explained things, but in the end we were only able to enjoy the vegetables and nuts with rice and less the meat sections. It was also disproportionately expensive in comparison. Sorry, we won't be coming back.

We were there on a Friday evening. The reception and the service were very pleasant and friendly throughout the entire visit! The food (soup & duck) was excellent. Of course, this also has its price. Almost €100 is really a proud price; However, here it is also justified. Clear recommendation!

My first visit to this restaurant was very positive: delicious food, relaxed atmosphere and nice service.

We have known the restaurant for a long time and have always been satisfied. Unfortunately, prices have skyrocketed in 2024. Dishes that cost 17 euros in 2023 (e.g. tofu) were increased to 22 euros. This cannot be explained solely by the increased VAT. I am aware that other costs have also increased, but for a relatively simple dish 5 euros? In addition, there was a waiting time of an hour with few customers. Forgot rice and was only brought when asked, 6 euros surcharge for fried noodles instead of rice. So the dish for my grandson cost 28 euros instead of 22. 7.20 for 0.2 l. Merlot, open wine. In the end we also found finger food on the bill that we hadn't ordered. Unfortunately we only noticed the mistake when we got home. So you can never trust the service. The dishes tasted good and were also sufficient. However, we were disappointed.

In itself it was great. Only we were there with our 2 year old... a big mistake. Although the behavior was friendly, it was repeatedly pointed out that the child shouldn't make a mess, at that point we hadn't even gotten the food... and yes, it's the same with children that they make a mess sometimes, but I did As a mother, I always pick up everything from the floor and wipe it with wet wipes because I know it's extra work for the staff. We would only eat there without children.

Unfortunately that wasn't good. Unfortunately I was quite disappointed with the food.

Food very salty and a very long waiting time, a shame!

For me, since I was a child, Restaurant Chau has been an unbeaten Chinese restaurant in Northern Germany. Pure nostalgia with every visit. Incredibly friendly service and cuisine that has not lost any of its quality over the last 20 years. The portions are very large and you can have leftovers packed up. You shouldn't be put off by prices that seem too high - they are really fair. I'm already looking forward to the next visit.

Was OK . Food was hot. Had a spring roll beforehand that didn't really taste good. You can't really say more. The service was a bit disorganized. Meant kindly. It's not enough for a second visit.
