Chai Roti in Erlangen

The food is truly delicious. I especially enjoyed starter number 7. The service is very friendly. Only the seat by the entrance door isn't the best, as it gets cold outside if customers don't close the door, and there's a constant flow of people coming and going. I also find the drinks a bit overpriced, but the lemonade was good. I'll definitely be back – my favorite Indian restaurant in Erlangen!

We ate at Chai Roti in Erlangen today. It was a coincidence that brought us here. A very friendly waitress welcomed us and offered us a seat in the beautifully designed courtyard. The unassuming restaurant has a well-kept and cozy feel from the inside. The menu seems to be very well-used. But don't be put off; the food is gigantic and very flavorful. You'll definitely be full, even if you just order an appetizer (see pictures 10 and 13). The main course was also very tasty and very reasonably priced. We will definitely eat here again.

Super delicious food, served in generous portions, especially the mango coconut curry, garlic naan, and chicken tikka masala. Very friendly staff, and the food comes very quickly. Since we discovered the restaurant about two years ago through a friend's recommendation, we've been returning regularly.

The best Indian restaurant in Bavaria so far. It's very rare in Indian restaurants to have both South Indian and North Indian dishes. Here you'll find highlights from South India and North India, and both are delicious. The ambiance is also very pleasant. The staff is very friendly.

What to say, nice cosy place, food was great a we did not wait long for preparation. Waiters were friendly and helpfull. Recommend visiting if you are near.

Honestly, I've never had such good and authentic food in an Indian restaurant outside of India as I did here. All the dishes we tried were exceptional, with finely balanced flavors and visually appealing presentation. A very pleasant atmosphere and super friendly service. Chai Roti is an absolute highlight in Erlangen and well worth the long journey. We'd love to come back, thank you!

We ordered a curry, the waiter asked if we wanted normal spicy or Indian spicy. Coming from an Asian country, we thought we could handle Indian spicy but didn’t wanna shock our bodies, so told the waiter normal will do, thinking it will be German spicy. But boyyyyy, when it arrived…. 🥵🥵🥵 still it was really tasty! Lassi was really good and legit too

A somewhat modern Indian restaurant. Cool decor with relaxed music, and the menu stands out a bit from the usual Indian restaurants. The food is good and the portions are large. My highlight was the naan, which was very fluffy and crispy at the same time. I would have liked a bit more curry flavor in the curry. But all in all, it's very solid. Price-wise, it's on the higher end. With a starter, main course, and a drink, I paid just over €30.

Chai Roti is the best restaurant in Erlangen for Some of very special street food items. We love Chole Bhature, Pav bhaji, Pani puri, veg Manchurian and must try Chicken tikka. Chicken chilli. Chai Roti cocktails 🍹 🍸are the most delicious ones. People are very friendly and Ambience is like typical Indian theme inside restaurants..it’s awesome 🤩 … You must visit 😎

Very tasty, varied and authentic Indian cuisine. We all shared our food (as you should) and so I got to taste a lot of starters and main courses :) The highlights were Pav Bhaji and Samosa Chaat - presentation and taste were absolutely on point, the Samosa were amazing, crispy with rich filling and pomegranate seeds (though I could definitely use more of them). The Pav were lightly sweet, freshly made and the sauce mild but very flavourful. The "spicy" ice tea was also to my liking, but I just love cinnamon and cloves :) The only thing I wasn't impressed by was the Biryani (although the mutton inside was very nice and tender) and the Tandoori Lollipops (the chicken was alright but the sauce quite bland albeit spicy). On that note, a little warning: The dishes were all served VERY hot - it's best to wait a bit before you burn your tongue! And don't underestimate the size of the main courses especially - we couldn't even finish ours after a small serving of starters. Overall a great place that I will definitely visit again some time! :)

Very good Indian cuisine and nice quick service. It is advisable to make a reservation as it is always busy. Sometimes a bit noisy, but that's due to the number of people and the rooms, which are otherwise very nice. It is served on two floors. The portions are large, I usually have some left over for the next day and take it home with me. Unfortunately, the drinks are above average in price.

Delicious food with several traditional and different options that give it the feel of a culinary experience. As for drinks, I usually order mango lassi but I always feel like I've eaten too much. The mint and mango drink felt very light and I'll leave the mango lassi for another occasion. The service was very good, always helping us with our orders and they were very kind. Comfortable atmosphere. I'll definitely be back to try other items on the menu. 🤩

There's nothing wrong with the food, everything works here! Simply booking a reservation online is once again annoying, as you seem to be overwhelmed with transferring the booking to the local calendar. In plain language, this means that despite a correct and confirmed online booking, you always have to justify the fact that you have made a reservation. That doesn't work at all. Either you offer this and ensure that it is transferred automatically, or you forego it and do it over the phone!

Nothing to complain about. Very nicely decorated restaurant. Lots of tables. Even though it was busy, we got our food quickly. The food was very tasty. Large portions. The naan bread was great! The Mango Lassi is also recommended. But be careful, medium hot is already pretty hot.

We had a feast there. Their food is too good, though not very spicy which is preferable for the germans i guess but as an asian we love more spicy food, in spite of that it tasted really really good. But the dessert was not that much tasty but can understand why. Their service is top notch and the atmosphere is also very pleasant. Plan to visit again.

We went with an Indian friend on his recommendation. We ate very good tasting food. Their taste was very similar to Turkish cuisine, only, of course, the spices and aroma were different. The environment was also very authentic and satisfying. It can be a good starting point for those who have not eaten Indian food before.

Even though the food is good. I feel painting a distorted Map of India is not cool. Majority of Indians who visit this place can talk to the owner about this just like how we did. You are running an Indian/ Punjabi resturant in Germany. Atleast have some sense care about other passionate Indians who visit this place and end up getting disappointed seeing our Map where you are showing distorted Map of Kashmir.

Truly authentic Indian cuisine! According to my friend (who once lived in India), this restaurant is the first to get the real taste. The chicken from the tandoor was incredibly tasty, but we liked the Pav Bhaji best, it was perfectly spicy and the rolls that went with it were super fluffy! Mango lassi and the masala chai were also authentic. A must-eat if you're in the area!

This has been been a long time favorite for many years. We bring many friends here for the first time and everyone says they'll return. Their menu has something for everyone. I personally recommend ordering a bunch of appetizers to sample and share for a super fun date night or girls' night out. Pictured is our favorites: Tomato soup, Murgh kati roll, pani puri, tandoori pineapple, veggie balls, and garlic Naan.

We visited this restaurant while passing through. And in short: it was absolute madness. The fact that the restaurant was really full shortly after it opened (Friday) tells you two things: 1. Others also like it very much and 2. You should make a reservation. We didn't do that and had a hard time getting a place. To eat: The selection of dishes is varied and there is something for both meat eaters and vegetarians. I can't say for sure whether some of the dishes were vegan, but I suspect so. The food was beautifully presented and one portion filled you well. Ambiance: I would describe it as modern Indian. Not as cliché as we often know. There are pictures from India on the walls and decorations. Everything is accompanied by subtle effect lighting. Service: Absolutely friendly, quick and absolutely not intrusive, which doesn't mean that the guests' well-being wasn't looked after. The reception was a bit grumpy but the waitress apologized several times in the end. I think it was because we didn't make a reservation and they wanted to serve us. After ordering, the food was at the table relatively quickly and, as already mentioned, everything else was great. I can absolutely recommend the place and I have to say that it was my best Indian restaurant so far. Just don't make the mistake of trying without a reservation. ;)

Second time here and not disappointed at all. The starters taste amazing. I've eaten a lot of paneer starters, but none have done the chilli sauce as well as I did here. Fresh spices, ginger, etc. round off every dish so beautifully and make the experience so authentic. Service cares a lot about its customers. I would just like the Garlic Naan to have a little more kick. Otherwise everything was great!

This place has a beautiful order of food,paintings,and old india . Sadly this can’t get five stars because of the sanitary, first to start there were alot of fruit flies swarming around are food we asked them why? And they replied “its normal that they are there..” 2.trash around the floor..this shocked me since it was never like this wen we visited in 2021 it had people swarming in there and enjoying late night sundays .those were two major points but the staff has decreased badly witch could mean there is no janitor but its fine..just someone pls scoop the mess up..i hope if they fix these major points people will come swarming to this cozy place giving wonderful indian street food but for now we will have to wait…

I'm writing this review right after leaving the restaurant because I couldn't wait. I never expected to find such authentic and delicious flavors in the heart of Erlangen. Chai Roti not only has a great atmosphere with artistic photographs of Indian streets, sculptures, and paintings, but it also features several different areas, some of which can easily accommodate large group reservations. The place is truly beautiful, but the food definitely makes it worth a visit. We ordered the Tandoori Mix Platter (10) as an appetizer, and for our main courses, we had the Crispy Chicken in Korma sauce (54) and the Vindaloo (63). We also enjoyed a local beer and a Mango Lassi. Additionally, the restaurant accepts card payments, including American Express. Overall, it’s a must-visit in the city, especially for those who enjoy international cuisine and unique atmospheres.

I would say by far the best Indian restaurant I found in Erlangen and nearby areas. I tried their Masala dosa and Chole Bhature, both dishes were delicious. The stuffs are friendly, one of them asked each of us about how much spice we can handle. If you want some authentic indian food other than ur average butter chicken, go there and explore.

Service amezing street food fantastic

I have ordered 4-5 times from chai roti so far! The food is below average. I have tried their samosa chaat which to my surprise is good (4/5), however their chhole bhatoore, vada pav and pav bhaji will disappoint you, especially pav bhaji where they serve a normal gravy instead of real bhaji with pav. I won’t recommend pav bhaji at all.

I had the lamb and okra curry from the lunch menu and a mango lassi. I liked both and the waiter was very friendly.

Erlangen's inner courtyard charm without noticing that you're sitting outside, very well implemented. The service was impeccable and attentive and the food was excellent. Gladly again at any time!

Though food was ok but the hospitality was the worst. We went all the way from Regensburg after seeing reviews. We dined inside because of our 18 months old baby. Since the music was loud i asked waiter (Name : Sandy) to reduce the volume but he responded back saying it is fixed and if he tries to reduce then it will switch off. Overall i felt like we were dining in a pub and not in a restaurtant with strange person around who was staring at us as if he is giving free food. Even while ordering, any question you ask for his answer would be in a single word. I also noticed some other customer who were sitting next to us were arguing with him because of water bottle which they have brought for their kid from home. He was asking the customer to please keep the bottle inside and whenever your kid want to drink take it out feed the kid and then keep it inside. I guess he has to learn being generous and providing friendly treatment to visitors. Never ever again we are going to visit this restaurant. I felt food was ok ok but such acts makes me write this reviews.

I recently dined at Chai Roti again and had a great experience. I ordered the Masala Chicken with rice, which was initially too spicy for me. The attentive waiter quickly noticed and had a milder version prepared. The Sambhar was also impressive, especially for a North Indian restaurant making a South Indian dish. I had the pleasure of discovering the authentic flavors of Punjab at Chai Roti in Germany, and it has become my go-to spot! The moment I stepped in, I was warmly welcomed with a smile and the aroma of mouthwatering spices.

We went with a bit of expectation considering the good reviews up here. The ambience was great, the photos of India from a bygone era added a great deal to it. Somehow instilled a sense that our expectation could be met. We ordered a mughal biriyani, and masala dosa, salted lassi and mango lassi. The dosa was served cold, chutney didn't feel fresh, the biriyani was too spicy for our indian tongues, & the salt lassi was too salty. Against the trend, the mango lassi tasted good. Not all were bad, the food was presented with a great care, aesthetically. Great for instagram. Will we go there again ? Probably not!

Visit for nice authentic Punjabi Indian food in Erlangen. The place is right at the heart of the city and walking distance from main train station. Good connectivity via bus too and paid parking spaces behind. The dishes have been given slightly western touch to make them a bit milder and ensure that they are not too spicy and suitable for everyone.
