The food is outstanding – perfectly flavorful, creative, and the portion sizes are exactly as they should be: generous enough to leave you feeling full and satisfied without being overwhelming. A real highlight is the location: The restaurant is situated right in the heart of the historic Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex. The industrial backdrop blends seamlessly with a lovingly designed, modern ambiance that perfectly captures the charm of the place. You immediately notice how much emphasis has been placed on atmosphere and style. The staff is also impressive across the board: extremely friendly, attentive, and consistently professional. This creates an environment where you simply enjoy spending time. In short: It was a thoroughly enjoyable and truly delicious evening. And with a little wink: The name "Casino" here isn't tempting – there are no slot machines. Instead, you get something better: honest, high-quality food and an ambiance that makes the evening special.

This was our first time at the Casino Zollverein restaurant. The occasion was our 10th anniversary. A special day that we wanted to spend in an equally special setting (and because our friendship began exactly 10 years ago on the grounds of the Zollverein Coal Mine). Upon entering the restaurant, it quickly becomes clear: history meets style here. The impressive industrial ambiance of the Zollverein Coal Mine, combined with modern design and warm lighting, creates an atmosphere that is both exclusive and inviting. The place has character, and that's precisely what makes it so special. Our culinary expectations were almost perfectly met. The menu was spot on in terms of flavor, creatively presented, and expertly prepared. The balance between quality and price is absolutely right. Only the soup was a bit too salty, but it tasted good nonetheless. A big compliment also goes to the service: always attentive, friendly, and present without being intrusive. We felt truly welcome. Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening in an exceptional restaurant that we can wholeheartedly recommend for special occasions.

We've been to the casino several times before, but this was the first time we were dissatisfied. From sitting down until the appetizer was served, an hour passed, and another 45 minutes until the main course. The staff didn't even ask us if everything was alright.

This was our first time eating here, and we were absolutely thrilled! We especially loved the blend of the old mine's charm and the modern, stylish interior. Great location. We were there for brunch with guests. The buffet was excellent, with a fantastic selection of cheeses and wonderful salads. The hot food selection was also very good, and the dessert menu, with ice cream, pastries, and much more, was fantastic. Attentive servers took care of everything else unobtrusively. The Casino Zollverein restaurant is located in the old compressor hall of the mine. The atmosphere is really cool, especially for someone who enjoys industrial culture. The food is excellent, and the staff is very polite and professional. I found the price at Casino Zollverein absolutely reasonable. If you're visiting the Zollverein mine and have some time, you should eat at the casino.

The starter (The Miner's Tapas) was delicious, the main courses were good (Wiener Schnitzel with fried potatoes and cucumber salad / Himmel und Äd), and the dessert (dessert variety) was also good, but much too large. We shared dessert between the two of us and couldn't finish it. It's highly recommended!

I love this industrial ambiance, the service was excellent, and we felt very comfortable. The food was very good, although unfortunately, all the tapas were cold, and a cold soup and a cold currywurst weren't quite as good. Nevertheless, all in all, a very pleasant evening.

A very large, beautiful restaurant in the heart of the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex. Plenty of tables, tasteful decor, and clean restrooms. The food is excellent; the appetizers alone were eye-catching and truly delicious. The main courses were delicious and arrived hot from the kitchen. They were served to everyone (more than 30 people) almost simultaneously. Drinks were brought to our tables very quickly. Highly recommended.

Unfortunately, the food quality wasn't as good as expected, and the room was far too warm with the outside temperature at 33 degrees Celsius. Overall, it was rather disappointing.

Review: Guest Casino Zollverein – Light and Shadow on a Visit on June 21, 2025 Our visit to Guest Casino Zollverein was unfortunately a mixed bag. With the perfect summer weather and an outside temperature of around 28°C, we were really looking forward to a lovely evening – which made it all the more surprising that the terrace wasn't even set up. Despite a lack of preparation, we sat outside, as the temperature inside was almost unbearable. So the evening began with an aperitif outside, albeit with a rather sobering first impression. One positive aspect is the consistently attentive and extremely friendly service staff. The employees clearly made an effort to make our stay as pleasant as possible – a clear plus in the overall rating. The ambiance of the terrace itself, however, seems lackluster. A beautifully designed outdoor dining area with attractive plants or fresh flowers would certainly have benefited the place and better reflected the hotel's standards. The food itself, unfortunately, left much to be desired. The cream cheese preparation for the appetizer was noticeably sour – probably a temperature issue, as it had apparently been left unrefrigerated for too long. My husband's main course – a steak with béchamel sauce – was equally disappointing. The sauce tasted more like a ready-made product than freshly prepared. The presentation of the dishes was certainly appealing, but was unconvincing in terms of taste and quality. Overall, the value for money was not right for us. Conclusion: Despite a great ambiance inside and very dedicated service staff, the Guest Casino Zollverein unfortunately failed to impress us with its culinary offerings. In summer temperatures, both preparation and a well-thought-out concept for the outdoor area are lacking. It's a shame – because with more attention to detail in the food and terrace, this establishment could be a real highlight.

Wir hatten ein großartiges veganes Überraschungsmenü im Casino Zollverein – kreativ, raffiniert und perfekt abgestimmt, inklusive stimmiger alkoholfreier Getränkebegleitung. Besonders hervorzuheben ist das Serviceteam: Alle drei Mitarbeiter waren außergewöhnlich freundlich, aufmerksam, liebenswert und angenehm authentisch – so wünscht man sich das. Auf Wünsche wurde jederzeit offen, proaktiv und sehr zugewandt eingegangen – flexibel, unkompliziert und mit echter Freude am Gastgeben. Das stilvolle Ambiente in der alten Maschinenhalle verbindet Industriecharme mit moderner Eleganz. Auch an Kinder wird gedacht: Für unser Kind gab es frittierte Stäbchen von der Kartoffel. Zum Abschluss: sehr guter Kaffee – auf Wunsch auch entkoffeiniert und mit Pflanzenmilch. Ein rundum gelungenes Erlebnis – sehr zu empfehlen!

We had a fantastic vegan surprise menu at Casino Zollverein – creative, sophisticated, and perfectly coordinated, including a perfect non-alcoholic beverage pairing. The service team deserves special mention: All three members of staff were exceptionally friendly, attentive, amiable, and pleasantly authentic – just what you'd want. Requests were always addressed openly, proactively, and very attentively – flexible, uncomplicated, and with genuine joy in hosting. The stylish ambience in the old machine hall combines industrial charm with modern elegance. Children are also catered for: our child was treated to fried potato sticks. To finish, there was a very good coffee – decaffeinated and with plant-based milk available upon request. An all-round successful experience – highly recommended!

We ate at Casino Zollverein for the first time. We parked in the large, free parking lot at Hall 9/12 and then walked to Hall 9, where the casino is located. We received a very friendly welcome (our jackets were taken off and hung up) and were then assigned a table. Drinks and an appetizer (bread with dip) were brought very quickly. We then placed our food order (a 3-course surprise candlelight dinner for two, including a bottle of wine and a bottle of water, for €129), which was very good in terms of quality and taste. After a good 2.5 hours, we paid and went home happy and satisfied. Highly recommended!

If you are looking for a special restaurant in Essen, the Casino Zollverein is doubtless a great choice. The atmosphere is unique. The service was remarkably good. Attentive, quick and here and there with additional information about the food or the wine. The food was very tasty. The ingredients are high quality; you can taste that. However, I felt it could have needed a little more salt and seasoning. But that's no reason to deduct points. We had a great evening. Thank you very much!

We have orderd candle night dinner because of my Hausband birthday and it was perfekt. Although we eat no pork, there was possible to have meat menu with other meat possibilities. All contents were chosen professionally and each plate was were well designed and tasted very delicious. All vegetables and other cooked contents were fresh. 3 different waiters served our dinner menu. One of them with glasses which I can not remember his name was really professional, emotional and friendly. Two others brought our drinks and food without explanation about name and contents. It seems that they were Barman and not food waiters. I recommend this place and their suprise menu for special occasion like anniversary, birthday and so on. I have 2 recommends for restaurants: 1. a good Music makes this place more attractive and 2. the dessert needs also a drink to serve. Like caffee or something like that. They bring drink beside starter and main menu, but for desert unfortunately nothing.

We went for Sunday brunch. It was perfect. Service that simply fits the house and represents the culture of the house. Food was super good and really great and unusual for a brunch. It was the perfect brunch for two generations. Price performance matches the overall delivery perfectly.

Wir waren am Sonntag (13.4) mit 10 Personen zum Brunch hier. Die Location an sich ist ja schon sehr schön und hat sehr viel Atmosphäre. Wir wurden super freundlich begrüßt und man hatte direkt das Gefühl das man willkommen ist. Die Auswahl der Speisen war gross, sehr geschmackvoll angerichtet und Alles super lecker. Wir haben die vier Stunden voll ausgenutzt, weil wir uns sehr wohl gefühlt und das lag definitiv auch am super Service des Teams. Alle waren sehr freundlich, aufmerksam und bemüht jeden Wunsch zu erfüllen und das immer mit einem lustigen Spruch auf den Lippen. Zusammengefasst ein toller Brunch, in einer tollen Atmosphäre mit einem super Team. Vielen Dank dafür ! Wir kommen gerne wieder.

The waiter reacted very unprofessionally when I wanted to redeem three vouchers (50 euros each). I got these for my birthday. Afterwards we didn't get an invoice, just a note that 40 euros were still outstanding. This is not guest-oriented and you don't feel welcome.
